Digital triggers are better.
>>
>>399237643
Ok, but how would you control the speed of a car with just digital triggers?
>>
>>399237643
I unironically agree for 99% of games.
>>
>>399238295
Why would you need to do that?
>>
>>399238295

To stay on the fucking road.
>>

Have you ever played a video game with vehicles?

To gain more control by reducing the speed without losing momentum as opposed to outright braking and skidding on the road.

That's what the brake button is for lad. Otherwise just let go of the trigger during turns. Or drift.

Then drift. You can still gain control by drifting around corners.

What if i didnt want to drift but slow down gently without slamming down the brakes digitally?

Why not digital triggers that also have a click at the end, where you can assign separate inputs to each?

I have a feeling you dont know what digital triggers are...
>>
>>399238912
I want one of these really badly but I'm afraid of loosing proper d-pad functionality. Do you have a pad strictly for d-pad games?
>>
>>399237643
Great for everything except games with cars. It constantly fucks me up in rocket league because I can't control my speed at all, it's either 0 or 100.
>>
>>399239034
*except games with acceleration based input
ftfy
>>
>>399239034
MGS2/3/4 used analog input to peek around corners.
I think so did outlast.
>>
>>399239030
I have a shitty off-brand 360 controller, but the touchpad as a d-pad isn't that bad.

>>
I have literally never had trouble playing a game that has cars with digital triggers. Recently been playing Burnout 3 and it doesn't even use the triggers to accelerate
>>
>>399237643

Use the bumpers you fucking pleb.

The triggers are analog for car accelerating/braking, plane rudders.

Not everything is Overwatch you soyboy faggot.
>>
Yeah, I much prefer clicky L2/R2, but then again I don't play games that would need analog input in there.
>>
>>399239274
I was joking, how would you change gears with one button?
>>
>>399239428
It's why I still prefer the Dualshock 2 to the 3 or 4

You mean analog triggers with a digital button at the end.
>>
>>399239367
>I don't play games that require precise control of vehicles
Ok
>>
>>399237643
No, they're really not. Analog triggers are way better, as they allow for the replication of "travel" in a situation, like the speed of camera rotation or the distance between 0-100% acceleration/braking.

Gigantic faggots will say this can be replicated with pressure-sensitive buttons, but no game has been able to do this correctly as there isn't enough travel. Pressure-sensitive buttons result in a lot of accidental actions in games like MGS3 or Gran Turismo 4.

tl;dr op is a faggot
>>
>>399238413

It doesn't work like that, dipshit. Just think if cars had buttons for pedals instead of something with travel, everything would be russian dashcam videos.
>>
>>399240390
Games like Burnout or Rollcage are good because they appeal to my barbarian brain. The ones where you just race politely are boring though.
>>

Of course not, he just read how people preferred analog triggers and decided to make a thread to get (You) s.
>>
>>399240398
Racing games as we know them didn't really start getting good until triggers and pressure sensitivity became the norm. Games before this required tapping/releasing a lot; one good example is a game like GT. Digital steering ate dogshit for realistic racers; you had to tap left and right repeatedly just to try and keep a smooth corner.

As opposed to "almost nothing is a realistic driving/flight simulator", making analog triggers borderline useless 99% of the time.
>>
>>399237643
You mean shoulder buttons. Triggers are analogue by definition.
>>399238295
With an analogue face button, of course. PS2 got it right.
>>
>>399238674

>no but they're so much better for this one genre almost nobody plays, and even fewer people play "correctly"!
I guess we better replace the right analog stick with a 10" flight stick. It'll be incredibly obnoxious for almost every genre in existence, but it's OBJECTIVELY better for flight simulators!
>>
>>399241119
For the same reason the triggers aren't already called "analog bumpers".
Hint: the shape.
>>
>>399241592
But a real trigger feels more like a digital button.
>>
>>399241637
More like the Gamecube triggers desu, and those were analog triggers with digital buttons.
>>
>>399238768
This. Up for acceleration down for braking. Theres been games that have this as an option.

If your car game needs more refined speed control than "stop" and "go", then it has no value.

So buy a wheel accessory you faggot. Controllers shouldn't be dragged down to shit-town by some niche genre. It's better to let niche genre autists like you shell another $50 for an accessory, ideally one that can be plugged into various generations of coming consoles (and obviously PC).
>>
>>399244650
>no clutch
>>
>>399237643
They aren't though.
Analog triggers open up new possibilities and since pressure can be detected at any point there is no "Travel Time" downside. You can bind different actions or varying degrees of one action to an analog trigger whereas with a digital trigger you're stuck with just one. A dual stage trigger even has a satisfying click and clear delineation for when you want to put multiple actions on it.
Dual Stage triggers > Analog triggers > Digital triggers

You would control it the same way racing games have been controlled for the past 30 years.
You push the button, the number increases according to the car's acceleration stat.
You let go the button, the number decreases.
>>
>>399248863
