Other franchises have already solved this issue.
Plasmathrower is the solution.
It's like a flamethrower only it spews super-heated plasma that can be extremely hot (like, anywhere up to the surface of the sun hot). There's even energy weapons in Doom's setting, some of which are plasma based and do work on demons, so a 'Plasmathrower' should be perfectly fine to work into the game setting.

Actually it's much easier to create maps with total creative freedom and no need to optimize every nook due to limited processing power and compromise your vision to accommondate various other optimizations. In Doom you just put monsters in a room and the room can be any size and shape that the sectors allow. In D44M you have to carefully queue monsters to appear in specific circumstances and the shape and size of the room must be adjusted for all manners of optimization culling and maximum dynamic lights rendered per frame. You can't make the things you want, you have to make due with what you can afford with obsolete shit hardware.

...yeah, only BECAUSE they use overkill technology that was never meant for console hardware that can barely run games at 1080p/60fps this day and age.

The problem is, once again, that the modern, nu-devs don't know or care one bit about art-design, and instead try to brute-force everything in, using automated, dynamic effects and uncompressed visual assets.

In short, the devs have voluntarily slaved themselves to tech they don't know how to use.
