What's the worst video game related piece of hardware (not including actual systems) you've ever owned? Controllers, accessories, adaptors etc.

Literally anything I owned by these fucking assholes. If it wasn't already right out of the box, it would just break altogether because of how cheaply made they were. I had a Gamecube Link Cable made by Madcatz and I don't think it ever worked. I found it in a box full of gaming stuff and the material it was made out of became excessively sticky.

Why do people always jerk themselves off over the wave bird? Shouldn’t it be worse than a normal GC controller since it’s wireless?

This piece of shit the analog stick completely broke after only a few months. Also the N64 gameshark it probably broke on me within 6 months of owning it.

>>434847181
I always found it bizarre before they went under people were always talking about how good their fight sticks were. I just found it unbelievable Madcatz made something that wasn't a steaming pile of shit that fell apart in 2 weeks, even more so they built something good enough that fighting game players praised it. Fighting game players are the type of would be very harsh about poor build quality or durability.

Is it me or did Gamesharks break insanely easily, or they just stopped working altogether? I had more than a handful of GameSharks for various systems (Mostly Nintendo handhelds) and they ALWAYS stopped working. They would also become extremely sensitive and the slightest tap to them would cause them to disconnect.

A PS2 memory card that only worked if you first ran a disc to enable it.
It had half as much space on it than a fucking official one did.
But the disk did allow for hot swapping which bypassed region locking.
>>
>>434850871
Only thing I really miss with older memory cards is the ability to take your card and your game, plug it into a friends console and just pick up where you left off. Everything is tied to accounts and DLC so you can't just bring over a memory card with all the characters unlocked or a 100% save without jumping through hoops.

Action Replay DSes had great cheating features but had pitiful build quality. You'd brick them and have to restore them with a firmware update if you pulled them out of the DS instead of pushing down and then pulling out like a cartridge. My cousin had the Action Replay DS where you could stick the DS cart into the AR itself, but somehow I got the older version AFTER he got his, and mine had not slot for a DS cart. That meant I had to insert the AR, select the game and the cheats and I wanted to use, remove the AR, and then insert the DS cart, and I swear to god the same cheats that worked perfectly for my cousin in Pokemon Diamond and Mario Kart didn't do shit for me.
>>
>>434853495
Also had a 3rd party card, worked fine. Only thing I noticed with it was saving would usually take longer on it versus an official memory card, though I didn't give a shit as long as I could save all of my things.

DJ MAX Trilogy uses a USB dongle as DRM, the game won't launch unless it detects it as plugged in. Naturally I got punished for actually buying the game as the dongle stopped working after a few years and I could no longer launch the game, and after getting a crack for it all my save data was gone.

Speaking of Xbox 360 bullshit, this piece of shit cable that comes with it is blown up on the console end so that it covers the HDMI port when plugged in, despite there actually not being anything inside the rubber, because Microsoft wanted you to fork out extra for their A/V + HDMI adapter. Reminds me of this arcade box set up I've seen a few times when I didn't have any money for it.
It's pretty much a mostly empty shell that you lay your GameBoy in, close and lock the door, and then you play your games with a joystick and larger AB buttons.
It might have also had a jack for the sound too.
>>
>>434855973
The later ones had a little piece of plastic instead that covered the HDMI port. Blew my mind that a company could be so anticonsumer, especially when the only thing people would've wanted out of the AV cables while using an HDMI cable is audio out.

It's not just the big 3, They've not released a new controller in a few years but Logitech still makes quality controllers and during the Xbox/PS2 era they had the best controllers for both platforms.
Razer has great ideas for their controllers (using mouse button microswitches for face buttons is superb - I wish someone else would copy that) but all of their controllers have shit QA and stop working really quickly. Do not ever buy a Razer controller if you value your money.
>>
>>434861284
Yes, unless you played all the Pokemon games there was no reason to get it. Hell, they even advertised it for making Pokemon games better, I remember one of the specific ads being about your friend not wanting to trade his Clefable to trade with Ishihara in the Pokemon TCG game, so let him backup his save and trade you the card, then restore his save so you both have a Clefable.

I had one, it was neat but a massive waste unless you were using it for really niche shit. I remember finding out it was possible to take my friend's Pokemon Red save and restore it on my Pokemon Blue game, blew my fucking mind.

it basically shoots electrons where they shouldn't be, and that's a bit. what gets worn out is the material that the electron gets shot through (separately for each bit), but that takes tens/hundreds of thousands of "shoots"/writes, and the result is that the affected bit can no longer be flipped to "on".

also, given physics, its also not permanent, just like how regular HDD can lose/corrput stored data by being demagnetized over long periods of time (tens of years), similarly, even in flash drives data itself is also prone to be corrupted over long periods of neglect, while the device itself remains functional.

The PS1 memory cards never had enough space for jack shit. You always had to have at least two. Hell, if you wanted to play a sports or wrestling game, you pretty much had to dedicate an entire card to that one game alone since they took up so many blocks. So this thing seemed like a godsend. It was just a little hard drive with like 64 virtual memory cards that you switched with the buttons and digital display. Only problem is that it would reset itself and delete fucking everything for no reason at all. I had it pull that shit three goddamn times on me before I chucked it out my fucking window into the street.

I had one of those too, except it looked like pic related. I had the exact same experience. It would inevitably just fucking delete everything. Even before it deleted everything, you had to follow a special procedure for inserting and removing the card in order to prevent it from resetting itself, like I think you couldn't turn the console on or off with the card in the slot. I think I actually bought two of those pieces of shit, because I was hoping maybe the first one was just individually defective instead of the product in general being trash. Fuck me.

Then I discovered the DexDrive and never looked back. Unlimited storage space with a regular memory card, and no bullshit. You put your memory card in the DexDrive, connected the DexDrive to the computer, and you'd have software that would let you make virtual memory cards on your computer's hard drive and move files between your computer and the memory card. It was great. The only problem was that the memory card could sometimes get stuck in the DexDrive's slot and be hard to remove.

That sucks, though it's a fucking fantastic controller when it works

I found the Cube component cables for $15 in a pile of used shit at GameStop, back when they were going for like $75. I sold them for $200 or so eventually.
>>
>>434884650
How big is it storage wise?
>>
>>434869334
I bought one on sale at salvation army. It came with the external power supply so I could connect it to my computer and try it with VR.
I bet I don't have the right environment for it, but I can't get it to translate my leg movement to vr inputs. I think it's a software problem or setup problem, not a hardware one.

It's been a while since I used it.

I was planning to use the 500GB HDD that came with my first PS4 and do that HDD to USB adapter thing. Can't remember the brand though.
I don't know if getting a Network Adapter is mandatory, but I don't think so.
Thanks all, I'll google that shit later.

Always preferred rockband controllers to the guitar hero equivalents. The clicky strum bar was baka af. Also the drums with the dedicated cymbals was also pretty stupid when the rock band drums were more fun to actually play

>Tfw like using it for Batman Arkam Knight but hate it for everything else
Also I bought the back plate that lets me put the usb dongle inside the controller when I'm not using it because it was on sale months ago for like 99 cents.
I don't like it that much, but I really want to keep the two pieces together.

This brings back bad memories. I exchanged a couple of bought used Wii games, including my two No More Heroes games, for one since it was at the beginning of its release so I thought I could sell it quite easily.

I never could, then a few months later it just disappeared from my house. I believe it was stolen along a few games I still had by one of the kids that would come during my parents' christian reunions at home.
>>
>>434874027

Yes, in the new 3ds and 2ds it is integrated but in the old ones you would need it for smash, animal crossing and games like that
>>
>>434880997
>use the program HDLdumb and a hard drive to USB adapter to transfer them over, then start the games in OPL

Can you play PS2 games with original JAP audio and uncensored this way?
Xenosaga III comes to mind.

>>
>>434885467
ps2 uses old IDE hard drives. unless you get a 3rd party SATA to ps2 adapter, but i don't know how well those work. still, the hard drive bay is meant to fit big hard drives, not small laptop ones

There's a few different SATA to IDE adapters. The best one I've seen is a Startech one which is $20. I recently bought a chink PS2 network adapter (except the ethernet port is fake) the thing is it has a built in SATA adapter and otherwise seems decently put together. Haven't set it up yet so I can't vouch for it entirely but I've heard and seen good things from reviews and opinions.
>>
>>434885860
>hahaha you're an autist be a normie faggot like me
>>
>>434885656
yes, you can patch cheats into the ISO, or i think there's another way to use cheats seperate from the ISO too, but you'd have to do more research on that. you can also play modded ISOs if you want to use an undub or nude mod. just get the modded ISO and transfer it to the hard drive. it works just fine

ps3 unironically
All the games i wanted got ported to pc, except for demon souls
Hardly bought any games for it, not trying to start any console war shit, i just have reserved tastes. Biggest regret ever
>>
>>434885927
Being a normie has nothing to do with it, I have no reason to have a game shelf when I don't have a massive collection of physical cartridges, because flashcarts have near 100% compatibility.
>>
>>434886032
it had good exclusives at the time. some were ported years and years later, but if you had one at the time there was plenty of reason to have it
>>
>>434886050
Yeah but they're gay as shit, prove you're a normie or a GameCube kiddy who was born in 1999, or a casual faggot

'91, actually. Would you really question someone with a Wii with Nintendon't on it? Same fucking shit.

I mean, it was a good controller until it broke, and definitely way better than the normal 360 controller.

For a few months after I moved into this apartment, the only TV I had was a 32" LCD that could only run for 30-40 mins before the picture dissolved into flashing stripes of color. Fucking worthless.

Then my grandma died and I got her TV. Thanks grandma
>>
>>434845783
10 year old me was an idiot. I vividly remember my dad scorning at it when I showed it to him in the score, said something like "You know this doesn't come with the games, right?" The piece of shit barely worked too, would have trouble reading games or just randomly shut off/swap games in the middle of playing them.

>>
>>434886732
It's not emulation you fucking moron, it all plays on the hardware natively.
>>
>>434882053

>>
>>434880159
i use mine all the time and i love it but the quality control for it fucking blows cock, it almost looks like a 50/50 shitshot for if it'll work or fuck up instantly
>>
>>434886689
It's so stupidly counter intuitive though. Don't want to carry around games in your pocket to switch between? Attach a giant brick to your SP and keep them plugged into it instead.
>>
>>434886785
It is emulation, is the game running off the Wii or GameCube disc? If not then it's emulation
>>
>>434886892
I liked it for the added grip. Plus I had a NES M82 so I was used to being able to just switch games without having to actually take out the cartridge so this felt kind of natural to me.
>>
>>434887019
That's not what emulation means at all. Emulation is specifically reproducing the console, you can actually emulate disc based consoles using your disc drive and the actual game discs.
>>
>>434887112
Yeah I don't care cunt, play with original hardware or dont play at all or just admit you're a casual faggot

Story time
>mum got Wii for Christmas 2007 or 2008ish with that accessory pack
>played it a few times with family
>then completely forgot about it
>stuff happend with the dog at had at the time, long story but she had perminate uncontrollable diarrhea, barley vicious as water, if it dries, it is near impossible to clean up, becomes a kind of weird concrete
>dog gets shit everywhere, on the walls too, it gets on the accessory kit
>years later, dog died ages ago
>throwing out junk since mums not touched the Wii in years
>the tennis racket has a layer of shit concrete on it
