Making sure you have your weapons and skills up to level 4 before getting into champ dungeons is important. Trinkets are also a must. If you find yourself consistently having trouble with something, try using a trinket to help.

Reminds me that I still need to find a new Antiquarian since mine refuses positive quirks and is now "too good" to go make me money in apprentice runs.

My friends thought I was douch moneybags because I generally sat at about $40,000 gold on average. Now after getting my heroes gear up to snuff I can barely afford to supply the next run, and I have no antiquarian to go farm money with.

There can be no hope in this place. No hope at all.

I want hellion to wrestle me to the ground and eventually get her foot on my face, holding my head to the ground as she stands back up and telling me to start stripping as I feebly attempt to struggle against her, only for her to put more weight down on my face momentarily and tell me more sternly to strip.

>>
>>171324009
with two healing trinkets (tome/scroll/head she heals for around 11-15-ish for a single heal or 5-7 for a party heal.
The party heal is extremely useful to keep everyone topped up at max health

It works well for when youre playing with a lot of squishy heroes, like double highwaymen or whatever. Occulitist needs big chunky health bars to actually make use of his ~60 crit heals

she also doesn't crit heal for 0 with a bleed
>>
how hard are Champion Dungeons?
How far should I have upgraded my parties Gear and skills before I attempt one, especially a long one?
All the trinkets I can get this week are bad except the Ancestors Pistol in a Long Champ Warrens dungeon.
>>
>>171327192
Champion dungeons aren't too bad if you know what you're doing, but they're pretty difficult compared to veteran ones. You'll generally want heroes with fully upgraded skills and equipment before trying them. If it's your first champion quest, I'd suggest starting out modest with a short/medium-length one in the ruins or cove.
>>
>>171324009
her main strength usually is getting multiple guys off deaths door at once, and she IS the most reliable heal, and if you add up the party heal she heals 20-30 guaranteed.

Though its important to remeber taht most of the time a turn is better spent preventing dmg than healing it, so unless you have the luxury to spare the turn use her offensive skills, adn heal up only when the situation is under control.
>>
is there a trick to farming a specific type of heirloom besides doing i.e. Weald if I want Deeds?

Which quest yields the most heirlooms is basically random, just keep selling busts for deeds since stress management building upgrades are useless.

How many ingame weeks (approximately, if you can't remember) did it take you guys to beat the game for the first time?

I've been playing in bursts for the last IRL year, my first safegame is at week 69 and I haven't even beaten the first DD mission yet. Guild, Blacksmith and Stagecoach fully upgraded. Failed the Shambler once, then quit the game for a while.
>>
>>171337248
I still am yet to beat the game. I stopped playing for a long time and I just kinda meandered for around 50 weeks just grinding heroes to lvl 6.

Just tonight actually I beat the flesh the necromancer and the hag on lvl 5 for the first time.

It's ambiguous, but her pa was probably just a criminal.

With auntie, they're pulling a switcharoo where you think she's gonna save the woman, but she's actually out for power for herself.

Abdul's implies that he's destined to die if he proceeds, but he strikes out along that path anyway.

Were there others you were confused about?

Slap a cleansing crystal or something on him or his buds if you're worried about it. Stick him in a party with appropriate quirks or trinkets.

That aside, increased resolve levels give boosted bleed resist, so leveling his heals as you go isn't as bad as it seems, but it DOES make it more likely to pop bleed if you don't counteract it somehow.

>>171342169

>>
>>171346483
It's more the bleed damage that seems to mitigate its usefulness. Like if you upgrade from level 2 to 3 all you've done is increase the max heal from 14 to 16 at the cost of double the total bleed damage from 3 to 6. I'm also more referring to earlier stages in the game I guess.
>>
>>171347029

It's only an issue if the occultist's teammates are underleveled. Character bleed resist increases faster than bleed chance increeases.

at level 0, it's a 60% chance to bleed while everyone has 20-30% resistance, meaning there's an overall 30-40% bleed chance.

At level 6, it's a 100% chance to bleed while everyone has 90-100% bleed resistance, so it's a 0-10% chance to bleed.

With some anti-bleed quirks or trinkets, you can get a 0% bleed. Just make sure nobody has bleed vulnerability diseases or whatever

For the early game, you should definitely keep it un-upgraded, especially if you're going to be working with weaker team mates.
>>
>>171348336
I'm just estimating since it's supposed to be out in April and it was supposed to come out this month before they delayed it.

If you're familiar with Dragons Dogma, what would you think about something similar to Dogmas Pawn system for DD?

For people who don't know what I'm talking about: In Dragons Dogma, the player has a pawn, a sidekick, that travels and fights alongside the player. The player creates his main pawn in the beginning of the game, same way he creates his protagonist. The pawn levels up and becomes a stronger fighter too and the player also equips him with gear and modifies him in other ways that are important.
The most intriguing aspect of this system is that the players can list their pawns online so that other players can hire them. The hiring player pays a fee (the owner does NOT receive this) and then receives a temporary, exact copy of the hired pawn. High level, top tier pawns are expensive as hell to hire (prices are set by the games system according to pawn level), but also strong as fuck. When the hiring player dismisses the pawn, the original pawn of the original owner receives exp proportional to how much exp the copy pawn gained while with the other player. The hiring player can also gift the owner something if he was especially satisfied with the pawn.

I think this could work in Darkest Dungeon too, with modifications. I think you'd have to remove the experience gain through hiring out heroes because it would be highly abusable. Naturally, hiring from other players needs to be expensive so as to not make the stagecoach useless. I imagine something like a lvl6 hero with really good quirks would cost something like 50k+ gold to hire for a limited amount or just a single mission. A satisfied player could send the pawn back with a trinket as a gift to the owner who painstakingly trained that lvl6 hero with On Guard, Quickdraw, Quick Reflexes, Eldritch Hater and Slayer and now bad negative quirks.

It's been a thing for about two years, but not constantly. So far there have been about three "eras" of /dadg/ (as far as I can remember and from rooting around on fireden anyways:)

1st era (????? - June 2015): Game came out in early access, and I think that's when the generals for this game first popped up on /vg/, but I'm not sure because I don't think fireden archives go back any further than May 2015 which is the earliest DD thread I could find on there. It was known as /ddg/ but the Dark Souls general complained so we changed it. Polyle dropped by to draw some lewds for us, and the bulk of current DD smutfics were made. Eventually interest waned and the general died.

2nd era (December 2015-April 2016): Lots of people bought the game in December 2005, because of the Xmas sales, and because the titular Darkest Dungeon was going to be completed in January with the release of the titular Darkest Dungeon. Lots of buzz was created on /v/, so much that everyone generated a new string of generals on /vg/ Between then an now, interest waned again, and the general died again.

3rd era (Jan 2017 - now): The expectation for radiant mode and Crimson Court caused the next rise of interest in Darkest Dungeon. Right now what keeps us alive is hype for Crimson Court. Once that comes out and everyone has had their run with it, the general will slowly wind down and wither away, but maybe it'll come back when a new big DLC comes out.

I'm seriously dreading this. I'm anthrax bombing Red Hook's offices if this happens.

Basically in the same boat. I got the game a while back and ended up quitting when I lost Dismas and two others as soon as I stepped foot into my first Vet dungeon and only just now have I finally picked it back up.

I just picked it up a couple months ago, I've just been fairly busy so I can only really do a handful of missions a day, if even that.

If you dont face them or if you fail the mission, they can show up again.

Beat Vvulf this morning in a very risky fight. Had to take in a Lv 3 MAA because nobody else could do the job and a lv 4 Vestal cause my other one was already near the stress breaking point.

My Bounty Hunter nearly died and both the MAA and Nun ended up afflicted, but no deaths, no buildings destroyed. Wish I could have explored the rest of the map and picked up the ancestor trinkets, but I'm just happy to walk away relatively unscathed.

Make sure to bring a MAA. Even a lower lv one is better than none. Nobody else can deal with Vvulf's bombs.

Arb for back line damage, Hound for mark/bleed, Jester/GR for movement (your line will get shuffled), and someone with a lot of HP that will hopefully be the one in the pot.

Avoid Lepers (can only hit the pot) and probably Crusaders for the same reason. MAA is unfortunately really good for this fight, big HP, high odds of being the one in the pot if he gets to Defend another party member first. Too bad you don't have em.

So as long as you don't have a Hellion or someone that might be reliant on maintaining their front-row position, is a continuous loop of Duelist's Advance and Point Blank Shot a viable strategy? As in equally if not more effective just using his other attacks?

And if something attacks a riposting Highwayman who's also being guarded by a riposting Man-at-Arms, do they both get their riposte?

If you lost anyone in a dungeon, and retreated from the fight in which they met their end, you lose their trinkets.

>>171451617
Does it work? Yes. Is it viable? No, not in any situation where any other meme comp wouldn't do equally shit/well.
If you really want to play the shuffle game go with a Jester, GR and MAA. Use speed affecting trinkets on one of those first two so you always know which will go first.

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/dd-workshop#announcements/detail/254857045779239476

Today we are soft launching the workshop support.
We’ll give an overview of the steps we’re taking and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let us know!

First, you no longer need to be working off of the special workshop beta branch in Steam. All of the workshop features are currently live in the main build of the game, but you will only see those features when you are subscribed to a mod from Steam Workshop.

For the moment, the only way to to subscribe to a mod from the Steam Workshop is by being a member of Darkest Dungeon - Workshop. We’ll be circulating this group a bit more and making it public, allowing anyone to join.

Once the soft-launch is concluded, we’ll do away with this requirement and any Darkest Dungeon owners will be able to subscribe to mods without needing to join the group. We hope to transition from “soft launch” to official launch within a week or two, once we are satisfied with stability.

Once we do officially launch, we plan to celebrate the hard work you all have been putting in and will showcase some of the mods on social media and our community streams. It should be a great chance to get the word out and provide some exposure for your creations!

Red Hook Studios cannot be responsible for any damage to save games caused by subscribing to mods. As mod creators, we of course encourage you to test your mod thoroughly before making it available to the public.

We will be making a sticky posted on the Modding Forums on the Steam Discussion page to start pointing people to Darkest Dungeon - Workshop, and of course, please feel free to tell your players/friends that they will need to join this group to start using the mods. We also intend for the current live build to remain unaltered for for a bit to help ensure a stable launch window for Workshop support.

I rolled it by scamming with the two ruptures with a PD-Vestal-HWM-Crusader, all with skills to attack from at least 3 positions. The final boss is 3 long, so you can hit him from basically anywhere. Virtues buff your bleed resists by 20-30%, and even if DoTs are applied, PD just cures them. Eldritch slayer trinkets on HWM and Crusader, blasphemous vial on PD, healing items on Vestal. Frankly, I struggled more with the Swine God when the arbalest got the unluckiest rolls.

what counterplay is there really against that? either first turn kill the +attack buff or iono because thats not even enough

that ground crash or crushing blow or whatever can crit 35ish easily without even the damage buffs and they are also fairly tanky

stack dodge and hope theyll miss or something because otherwise there is really nothing you can do

not to mention that in the long run a vestal cant outsustain it so youll be relying on the occulists crit heals, thats what even comes close to getting the taken damage back

BUT if its aoe damage like the ground slam or whatever then even the occulist won't do well because its spread heavy damage so basically you are forced to camp right after

makes no sense honestly, most of you say that you cannot play the game on RNG but you actually can in ruins, they can 2shot 1 of your character easily in 1 turn

Packs laden with loot, are often low on supplies.

This is the most I've ever pulled from a single run, jesus christ.
>>
>>171468164

Your team needs to be perfect for the area.
Your skills need to be perfect for each hero for that area.
You need to be fully upgraded, you can't just wing it.
You can't bring people with bad quirks, it will fuck you.
Kill the everliving fuck out of the Champion enemies before they can start doing stuff.
Avoid every battle you feasibly can.
Don't get ambushed whilst camping.
Dark runs aren't worth it, bring torches.
In fact, bring more of any provision than you suspect you need.
If quest is done, leave. Don't ever stay longer than you should.

Avoid the Weald for anything other than boss battles, only a Mark For Death party can go there and be fully safe. The Cove, in contrast, is the easiest place as you can just take a healer and a stress healer and stall out Pelagic Guardians for a full restore - the Ghasts are also pathetically weak compared to the other Champion enemies.

Thinking of best team comps for each area at Champion Level, i'm pretty convinced these are the best:

Ruins

Crusader - Vestal - Man at Arms - Leper

You just need to outlast stress and damage and this team has perfect synergy, unholy slaying, Crusader and Leper both get prot buffs, MAA buffs accuracy on Leper and Crusader (and also Vestal benefits). Leper chops away and has Purge to deal with doot skellies, MAA can also use Rampart which synergises with Holy Lance. Battles go on pretty long but you have Vestal and Inspiring Cry so whatever.

Warrens

Plague Doctor - Grave Robber - Houndmaster - Houndmaster

Disease curing camp skills and houndmasters with bleed and anti-beast skills. It's better to dodge attacks here instead of sponging them, so a bunch of high dodge heroes and Blinding Gas to deal with skivers.

Weald

Arbalest - Occultist - Houndmaster - Bounty Hunter

Literally just the Marked For Death team, but it's perfect. Arbalest has heals to buff Wyrd Reconstruction, flare to remove marks, her own mark and good backline damage. Occultist debuffs giants, pulls viragos, bonus damage against Slimes. BH can also pull backliners, and does very well against human enemies. HM has a good mark, good stun for giants, bonus damage against the wolves and spiders, can reach the back, good all-round hero.

Cove

Plague Doctor - Abomination - Abomination - Jester

PD for blight, backline stun for 4xgroupers and healing bleed. 2x Abominations because you can stun and add on extra blight, just rake away,, or apply an Inspiring Tune and transform to take out problem enemies. Stress builds up pretty fast, but you can stall out Pelagic Guardians with a combination of heals. Thralls are an issue so Finale helps nicely here.

Long missions:
- Kill everything, don't touch any curios. Always take green, blue, and red gems.
- Set torch to 0.
- Open all curios.
- Optional: Wipe to RNG Shambler.
- Profit.
>>
>>171468164
STUNS.
kill shit.
stunning is always a good choice, stun the shit out of the most dangerous enemy, have one guy dedicated to it, stack stun% trinkets on him, fights are incredibly safer when you can have this ghoul or swinetaur do jack shit two times in a row, while your other guys gangrape another enemy, does not work in the weald, don't go there without a specialized team (mark team able to kill the fucking Virago real quick).
the single focus of the first turns has to be killing shit, got a "free" turn with your Vestal ? rain lightning on them (or stun that low stun%res guy), if you can do damage or keep them from doing shit, do it, no buffs too, reduce their numbers, healing has no other purpose than preparing for the next fight, abuse the 2 or 3 last turns while stalling with stuns to recover.
appropriate trinkets for each hero are mandatory, you want stun% on your stun guy, blight% on your PD, your damage dealers need ACC trinkets, get some scouting%, when in doubt : get speed.
quirks can make the run, avoid negative ones at all costs, good ones can provide a substantial help, I have one of my mark teams full of weald and beast/eldrich/human quirks and they always scout and roflstomp everything there
>>
>>171472018

MAA is also good there, can take instead of Hellion.

Fishes have high speed, his dodge&spd debuff works great. Guard helps against RNG focus and bleeds from crabs.
>>
So I had the game cracked and now I bough it on Steam. Do skins work the same way or do they deactivate achievements and shit like that?
>>
Can you only take off one negative quirk at a time in the sanitarium, or is it possible to sometimes get multiple like with diseases? Everyone has 4-5 negative quirks by now that are for the most part random stuff but some of them are stacked with "random chance to touch a curio"
>>
>>171472843
>Can you only take off one negative quirk at a time in the sanitarium
Yes. Curios in cove and warrens can help in that too.
>>
>>171473108
The Confession Stand in the Ruins can also remove a random negative quirk with a dosage of holy water too, I think
>>
>>171474586
It can't. Using Holy water heals 30 stress, not using it either gives 15 with a chance of 50% or abolishes a quirk with 25%. The last 25% is treasure.

ABOUT TO BRAKE!
>>
I know people die (or can't be used?) after doing the Darkest Dungeon quest, and that there's multiple parts to it.

My main question is to get the Reynauld and Dismas achievement do they have to go to the final Darkest Dungeon or just any of them will do?

I might let them perish if it's any DD to let the group I've named after friends and myself go, but what kind of group should I bring? Are stress healers worth it or will they barely make a dent?
>>
>>171485536
Thank you.
>>
>>171503741
If you're not a pleb and haven't switched it off, DD survivors will stop taking place up in your roster and refuse to visit it again. Dismas and Reynald have to be a part of the last DD mission. Stress healers are useful, there's a kind of enemy which doesn't attack and sometimes comes in pairs. You can stall those fights indefinitely.
>>
>>171503741
>My main question is to get the Reynauld and Dismas achievement do they have to go to the final Darkest Dungeon
Only to the final.

You only need torches which you get from first DD in second one, after that they are useless. Trap disarm and scouting are useless.

Make a group that is good at everything in your opinion. A group which you think will do good in every other area. Shit is rough.
>>
>>171503741
You need to send them to the final darkest dungeon quest to get the achievement. They don't actually need to beat it though, meaning you can never level them past week three, send them on a suicide run there with two other level 0's, wipe, and still get the cheevo.
>>
>>171504154
>talking about plebs

Pleb as in modifying the default game rules. Other than that, all is fair in love and war and Darkest Dungeon.
>>
>>171504350
A pair of rapturous cultists is literally the first encounter you'll see in the darkest dungeon, though. The devs intended for players to use them, and they make it really obvious too. You just need to be mindful of their guards and not kill them by accident earlier than you want to.
>>
>>171505367
>The devs intended for players to use them, and they make it really obvious too.
I don't think so.

They just didn't want the player to start solid 4x4 fights without them having any clue what monsters do. That's why they started with few easy encounters.
>>
>>171504350
>smart enough to abuse the system
>pleb
>>
>>171505756
If they didn't want players to use rapturous cultists like that, then they wouldn't make encounters with two of them at once, much less make it the first encounter you see in the dungeon. The full game's been out for a while, if they intended on fixing the "oversight", they'd have done it already.

I like all the new enemies except violin undead with Bone Bearer being my fav. of the five. His design is original and aesthetic as fuck plus he fits really well in the Ruins. Maybe they will introduce more gargoyle variants or other undead in the ruins so we don't have to fight spooky skellies over and over but if they add another skelly I hope it would add more depth like Bearer did. All the new enemies changes how you have to fight or approach lvl 5 dungeons, it's pretty cool. I don't like Squiffy Ghast because the idea of a zombie crewman playing a violin on a barrel isn't intimidating enough and he exists just to slightly annoy you with two skills that don't really do much unless you're on the brink of a heart attack.

Leper excels at raw damage. Any battle where enemies don't have a ton of prot can be good for him. Bosses like the Necromancer and Swing King are good fits for him since they either live in the front row, or can be easily brought to it.

I tend to like the Leper for most areas. Being able to nuke down one of the front line heavy hitters on the first round is always handy. Just be sure to pair him with characters like the HW, GR, and Jester who have ways to of reshuffling the line should you get surprised or moved. Never pair the Leper with the Arb, the combination of "can only do anything from front row" and "can only do anything from very last spot" make a bad mix as soon as someone gets pushed or pulled.

Just did my first Champion run/boss, holy shit, they are not kidding around.

In the Ruins with my fucking A-team of Vest, BH, HM, Sader. Sader has unholy damage and stun trinkets on, HM is a dodge god, BH has Vvulfs beard and a damage trinket for maximum marked removale, and the nun has +25% healing and -20% stress. I'm expecting an easy as shit run with a team like this in the Ruins.

First battle nearly did us in. Every attack is missing, every enemy is critting on us, stuns are a distant memory even with +40% chance on the Sader.

We pressed on and defeated the Necromancer, but only barely. BH and Nun went to Death's Door, could barely keep up with the spawns. My Nun with -20% stress still managed to fill her bar, but like a good girl she rose above and became virtuous.

Is this life from now on? Can I expect every Champ run to go this tits up? What can I do to prep a team for this fully? As it stands, I'm thinking I need to fire half my guys, grind lv 1 dungeons to pay for full upgrades before I even think of taking on something trickier like the Flesh or Siren.

I didn't explore around at all, no treasure or baubles to speak of, but plenty of blood was paid.
>>
>>171581350
Making the hop from normal to veteran or veteran to champion is going to be rough, but it evens off when you're doing runs with 4 resolve 6 heroes and a bucket full of trinkets. When you're just starting out and everyone's still 5, doesn't have maxed equipment, and are missing some of their most powerful trinkets, it's pretty cruel though.
>>
>>171581350
Did you go into a champ unupgraded? Well, you reap what you sow. Well, crusader's stun is the worse out there, Vestal can't keep up with the damage unless you use all healing trinkets, without dodge debuffs (read marks), of which you had none, you'll miss everything. But as soon as you upgrade, they'll become a lot easier. Champ ruins are the easiest out there, and the Weald is the hardest. Don't ever go there.
>>
>>171581908
I haven't done the Weald since the mini-boss update, but it wasn't too bad with the right team. Plague Doctors make it much easier with the ability to heal blight and stun the backrow targets, along with being able to blight stuff if you have a blasphemous vial. Just make sure to take accuracy trinkets on anyone doing damage since the majority of enemies have tons of dodge.
>>
>>171582278
I went in with a shitty comp (PD-Occ-Lep-Lep) into a short Weald, met 3 giants, got shuffled, poisoned, crit and barely made it out alive with 3 on DD and an affliction. The giants are fucking scary.
>>
>>171581350
Is there a bigger version of that pic?
>>
>>171582484
I did a double Leper setup too, it was a pretty terrible run. Couldn't hit anything reliably even with acc trinkets, couldn't chew through Giants and Fungal Brutes quick enough to avoid taking tons of damage. I had Occultist-BH-Leper-Leper.

It did work well for the warrens though, BH just pulls anything and everything to the front, and the Lepers murder it.

>>171582906
The Occ was pulling Crones, the lepers were smacking them and critting like mean sons of guns. The RNG hated the crones and killed them with a 50 chance to hit, while the Gnashers evaded 5 attacks at a point with a 65 % chance. The main problem were the giants, since I couldn't debuff the buggers. They rekt both Lepers and a shuflled PD with the branches.
