why the fuck can't I load any console systems in mame? I have software lists off and boot to cli on and use this:

retroarch -L /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libretro/mame_libretro.so "snes ~/roms/b2.zip"

but it just gives me a segfault.

[libretro INFO] Starting game from command line:snes ~/roms/b2.zip

"~/roms/b2.zip" approximately matches the following
supported software items (best match first):

Why is it looking for software items when I disabled soft lists??

I'm surprised how well the RPCS3 runs Persona 5 on i7 etc. However the cutscenes are sometimes dropping frames and having audio issues which can be annoying. Has there been any unofficial fix for the issue? Someone was stopping specific threads in order to gain more fps but that's sketchy at best (altough CEMU had similar thing going on in previous versions with BOTW).

Naturally weaker because be it small or big, every line of CPU that Intel launched is better than the previous one. Use Youtube and compare their performance, I'm sure plenty of people have them and made lots of videos running emulators on them.

I just got a 1600. Wii at 4k full speed no slowdowns. Ratchet and Clank at 4k with occasional slowdowns, that happen at any resolution and happen on my laptop.

Dolphin and probably PCSX2.
Tried OoT's wad some months ago and I was getting 50FPS on the titlescreen with DX9 and DX11, but 40FPS with OGL.
>>
>>182736959
>havent changed any of the settings from default yet
There's your problem.
Config > Emulation Settings > Enable Dynamic Recompiler.
>>
>>182736959
Download the Nightly builds.
also make sure your iGPU is not being used nsated of the 1060, you should just disable it in the bios settings to prevent shit like this happening.
You can also use this build, it runs rune factory games perfectly and it has a setting to hcnage the screen size to somethig like 25:100 so you can move the screen with the map which is barely used

DX in PCSX2 lacks tons of shit which is why it's faster, most of the time you don't wanna bother with DX though
Dolphin though yeah, especially with Ishiiruka having async shader compilation only for DX iirc Vulkan will eventually beat both though..
>>
>>182737256
So..? Dolphin's FPS Counter was marking 50 and 40 on OoT wad's titlescreen.
>>
>>182737321
ok i sort of lied. the game itself runs a lot smoother but whenever the characters speak its really rough. the music and effects sound fine though.
>>
>>182737450
>DX in PCSX2 lacks tons of shit which is why it's faster
It really must depend on the game then. Granted, I didn't played a lot of games on PCSX2 in my older computer and it was a lot of time ago too.

The point still stands though, in a way, the DirectX Renderer is better than the OpenGL Renderer and as long as the game where you use it looks mostly the same as it did on PS2 if not better, I assure you that everyone except accuracy autists will use it.
>>
>>182737798
>So..?

>>
>>182737321
>do the other settings make much of a difference or should i leave them alone if it works?
I actually never got to know that. There's some things like Options > 3D Settings > Renderer or Options > Config > Display Method that may matter, I don't know to what extent though
It'd be nice if someone could come and explain what kind of effect those options have.
>>
>>182738001
I'm not saying that that's fine, if you're thinking so.
It's just not relevant at all to what I said.
With that being said, for the original OoT there aren't better options unless the GC Collection runs it at stable 30. Does it?
>>
>>182725473

>>
>>182738278
>So..? Dolphin's FPS Counter was marking 50 and 40 on OoT wad's titlescreen.
I thought it was pretty obvious by now that an emulator's "60 FPS" equals "100% Speed" and not "Internal Framerate".

well open gl3.2 seems ro run faster than softrasterizer on my machine, the music sounds smoother also.
i didnt notice a difference between directdraw HW and SW openGL made everything heavily pixelated and slow down, filter made things blurry and vsync didnt have a real change. i just ran around the farm and picked up some stuff so its not the best tests. i wish i knew how to get fps and shit to display, then i would have some actual data to work with.

Curious, I just tried the latest nightly (2017/07/08) to see if it performed better on my potato than 0.9.11 and it doesn't show nothing but a black screen on Pokémon SoulSilver unless you use SoftRasterizer as the renderer.
>>
>>182739030
>>182738927
only been monitoring for about 15 minutes but i got some numbers.
renderer didnt actually change the fps but music sounds better in openGL.
direct draw HW and SW give me 45-53 fps so a little short of 60, filter doesnt change it, vsync dropped down to 40ish. OpenGL on the otherhand dropped me down to around ~25-30 and again looked more pixelated, with vsync it was anywhere from 15-22.
im still not sure of the difference but i think its obvious OpenGL requires stronger hardware to run compared to direct draw. filter smoothed out some outlines and ive gotten used to it, vsync had no noticsble effect on my machine.
i set frame skip to 1 with directdraw HS and filter, im getting a consistent 60 now and dont really notice the frame skip.
im sorry for the poor review but im not really sure what im doing. if you have any questions or suggestions id love to hear them. all this was done using version 0.9.11 with rune factory 2. my specs are

Why exactly do people say that HLE is a bad thing?
Is it just from a preservational PoV, because the inner workings aren't really known/emulated? Or is HLE itself just a shit concept, if so how?
And I mean, HLE as a concept not how several devs have implemented it in their emulators.
>>
>>182744747
>Why exactly do people say that HLE is a bad thing?
HLE is a bad thing for some specific systems (Saturn, N64, PS2) because doing it right takes absurd amounts of time and skill and nobody with that much skills has that much time to waste on something like that.
>>
>>182743761
Already saw that. I was hoping that people being able to beat the game meant that it ran smoothly. 15 fps is unplayable for me, but thanks anyway.
>>
>>182744747
HLE isn't an absurd concept provided that can be done.
Many features exclusive to console can't be done with PC APIs or require relative new hardware to be achievable with out getting a huge performance hit.
Do you want an accurate HLE PS2 emulator? Well, just to do transparency and frame blending similar to what the PS2 could do you need a Nvidia GPU released in 2014(Maxwell) or newer.

LaunchBox is a flashier front end. It doesn't do anything itself, but you link each game to whatever emulator you want, so you aren't forced to just use libretro cores. Then again, if the problem is you don't know which emulator to use for specific games, that doesn't really help.

The only difficult part is the HUD. At one point, even Angrylion's had issues with the HUD (some issue with having the graphics plugin working together with the emulator). Aside from the HUD, there was this flickering problem that happened on all HLE plugins and nobody bothered to fix that until recently, which is sad considering how easy it was to fix it.

Gotta be more specific. Are they any of the wireless ones for ps3/xbox 360? Or is it a dongle attachment for ps2, or a wii controller?

Wii's bluetooth stack has beengimped by Microsoft so you need to get workarounds to make it work, any wireless Xbox controller won't work unless you buy a third party dongle that converts it to direct input and playstation controllers probably just need the right drivers installed.

Good luck.

Not when you have SDK and other illegal documents at your disposal. Hence why most HLE N64 emudevs can't reverse engineer anything. Right now they are struggling to even fix the flickering in Gauntlet.

Antimicro and joy2key have some basic turbo functions but you can at-the very least change the number of presses per second and with antimicro some basic macro functions, you should be able to do what you want on your own neither are really complicated to deal with.
Autohotkey though is 100% complete and require some scripting knowledge but you can do advanced key macros with full control over presses delay if you want.

His answer to the game's freezes (that also happens on NO$GBA, btw. It prolly has to do with GF's Anti-Piracy measures) is:

This bug is still present in recent builds, by the way. He never bothered to actually look into it.

>he still has a defense force claiming desmeme to be accurate
If the only problem with his emulator was that Pokemon games aren't 100% accurate, it wouldn't be that big of an issue. But the way he treats both users and contributors like garbage, and has gone out of his way to sabotage NDS emulation as a whole because there hasn't been a viable alternative until now, that's the real problem.
I'm just glad most of the emulation "scene" acknowledges him as stubborn and malicious.

>>
>>182881110
No. The resolution actually has very little to do with. I get the same number of slowdowns at 4K as I do running at the native resolution. The problem is that it's a) cpu bound and b) even with a good CPU the emulator will still choke occasionally and slow down to 60-75% speed. All that said though, it's perfectly playable. I just finished Ratchet and Clank at 4k, notoriously difficult to emulate, and the only issues were this weird bug in menus where the background is a solid color, and those occasional slowdowns. The slowdowns aren't a huge deal either, because the whole game slows down so it's not like the framerate drops and I can't dodge a rocket. Over the course of the entire game it crashed once, which is less than some playthroughs I've done on PS2 hardware. Of course it happened in the middle of the fight with Drek, but whatever.

For reference I have a R5 1600 and a 1050ti. Before I got this computer I was playing it on an i7 6500U laptop at native resolution with similar performance.

The problem with Desmume isn't zeromus but it's the fact that the code is crap. Desmume has been touched by many people over the years and as a result some of the code is simply unmaintened because no one still around knows how it works and don't want to touch it due to fear of breaking everything.

It is basically the same situation as Visual Boy Advance, and the same thing will happen where another emulator will rise and take its place that has a better codebase.

WHY

All anyone wants out of these ports is the same game, but on PC, with arbitrary resolutions and frame rates, and maybe higher res HUD and GUI. And if you're going to replace the textures, at the very least you could actually make new fucking textures instead of just ruining the originals by running them through some filter.

In PPSSPP, is there any way to do the analog mapper mode with only one stick? Right stick mapped to dpad only registers the input when it's pushed about halfway and I'd like it to be more sensitive. Analog mapper mode seems to accomplish this, but then it makes the left stick impossible to control.

we NEED a good software renderer, and you're against easier ways to submit error reports + future netplay because?
>JFR rebased and updated geometry shaders a few months ago
Was almost the same shit as it was before, the Geometry Shaders was never complete, even the first implementation present on official builds was very experimental, breaking lots of games.
>didn't post source or any builds
Why? Even the code at hand was not usable (I had the code, shit would not even compile without hours of work, and was no better than the first implementation).
>he has now given up development of geometry shaders in citra in favor of xqemu
I don't blame him for this, XBox emulation is in much greater danger than 3DS emulation (look at how many people is working on Citra and how many devs we have to work on xqemu ou even CxBx-Reloaded).

>you'll not be able to compile it

Well when it comes to people actually sharing things you'll find that work doesn't need to be duplicated, so those initial hours of work is all that would be needed, and then anyone would be able to compile it.

>Because the code is not mature enough for you to optimize
Not him, but can you elaborate on this? Why wait to optimize code? I'd rather just do it right the first time. >>182933823
If you start doing what YOU call optimization now, when the code is rebased (and as Citra is mostly incomplete now, lots of code is rebased all the time to keep all the features working as intended), shit just stop working. You want a working and compatible emulator first, then you go to the real optimization. It's like putting nitro in a car that don't even starts half of the time. The only "optimization" you can do for now is to set flags when compiling to get a little boost from specific CPU instruction sets (what is no done by default on Bleeding Edge and nightly builds, because this destroys compatibility)

The only clean firmware.bin (not patched with FlashMe unlike other firmwares from "Bill Nye" and "Setya") out there is this:

Advanscene DB is above.

The latest cheats file is on GBATemp,

Lua DLLs must be exactly 5.1.x, not newer nor older. Extract lua51.dll and lua5.1.dll from

No, it shows the massive quality gulf between RetroArch and Higan where RetroArch doesn't force you to get an adaptive sync monitor in order to get great A/V sync. Byuu's frontend code is just crappy/pathetic which requires you to bring a bazooka along to squash a mosquito.

What does it matter if it's supported or not? You're acting like melonds right now is in a working state to begin with. It's still a pathetic joke compared to Desmume. Stop telling people to 'use muh precious standalone' when standalone still fucking sucks compared to the reference DS emulator.

I'm assuming that's what the command is supposed to do but still, how do I get the actual game at fullscreen or at least a larger window?

>>Why is his code pathetic? I don't see a problem with catering to high end hardware. Does RA have an ASIO4ALL backend?

Higan doesn't even have the static synchronization anymore, so regular displays (including CRTs...) will stutter with vsync enabled. He has actually hidden vsync enable in a config file since he removed the synchronization option. He also never implemented dynamic timing adjustments (aka "dynamic rate control") because he couldn't figure out the math behind it, so there's that.

ASIO requires linking to proprietary libraries, which is not really a good idea for GPL project. Someone had created a ASIO backend for GroovyMAME but it could not be accepted into the main codebase due to the licensing issue. The same person later created a PortAudio backend that performed mostly the same when using WASAPI, and that was actually merged into mainline MAME. I'm not sure why byuu has such problems with WASAPI because it's apparently working good for the MAME people.

RA also has a WASAPI audio driver which works good on integrated Realtek HD Audio in exclusive mode.

>Last time I checked, RA's D3D backend was broken and not well supported

It works, but only with RGUI menu driver. It supports basic Cg shaders but shader parameters don't work.

Replying to an old post. If I remember correctly I was able to run MHFU on PPSSPP at least already 4 years ago without any issues. Also the font was readable too. Try just increasing your rendering resolution to at least 4x the original. I think now to me it just looks like you are running on some ridiculous resolution which is too low. Either that or google font replacement for MHFU, I'm sure it's possible to replace it as well. But I'd think this now comes just increasing the rendering resolution.

ASIO is old outdated crap/gárbage that existed as far back as the 2K/XP days.

It is there for losers like byuu who cant write decent WASAPI drivers to save their life.

Same as every other motherfucking console ever emulated. It needs to be jailbroken, you need to be able to run homebrew on it, need to be able to dump firmware/OS, need to be able to decrypt games, need people that are both willing and able to reverse engineer undocumented hardware/OS features, need people that are both willing and able to create the emulator, and yes you need a significantly stronger PC since the GPU has some custom instruction set extensions that need to be emulated plus other hardware features such as HSA that PC doesn't have yet, probably will need SPU emulation as well.

>>183073689
I just don't get it at all.
I know you're supposed to shift down to gear 1 for half a second to start a drift, shifting up as you go and finally exist corners.
But sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes you immediately spin as soon you shift to 1 with seemingly no logic behind it.
Even during the times where it works, there's seemingly no controls during drifts if you're too fast

The collisions are absolute garbage too.
I'm a huge Sega whore and I honestly can't keep pretending that this series is good, especially when they did so much better.
>>
>>183074474
No you dumbfuck. The difference in number of gears you shift dictates the sharpness of the drift. Shifting from 4 to 1 is much sharper than shifting from 2 to 1. In the Sonic Mt. turn in the beginner course you should be able to take the corner by shifting from 4 to 3, maybe 4 to 2 if you don't have a proper line and/or the AI cars are in the way, you don't go all the way down to fucking 1. And you don't have to shift to 4 immediately after, depending on how badly the drift is going you might hold the shift or even go one lower to salvage a bad turn, better to lose some speed than ram into the wall and fuck up your car.
>>
>>183075858

You need good hardware to enjoy emulation to the fullest. I don't see the big deal. Using a bazooka to squash a mosquito isn't always a bad idea.

Requiring specific hardware didn't stop RA devs from gloating about ParaLLEl RDP. Idk the specific details behind ASIO, but even if less users can utilize ASIO than vulkan, the same principal applies. Most people don't care about system requirements, as long as they themselves are capable of using the software.

hello emulators, when ps2 emulation (whichever emulator does it first) finally gets good enough to have its own retroarch core, do you think we will get good composite shaders?

check this ff12 comparison out:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/216223

things i can see that is better in the composite image:

hair looks softer and more fluffy
eyes/mouth/nose/skintone have better blending
the armor is actually metal colored (compared to bluish on component)
the blue jewels on his chest emblem looks better
the blue light bars behind him has better light bleed
and the picture overall has less aliasing compared to component

only thing i can see is you lose background detail in dark places because composite has a way darker image

what do you think?

Basically yes, everything just works by making sure two conditions are met:

You need the correct bios (there's a bios pack in this thread's wiki that has it) in the \system directory.

You need your game's .CUE file to actually refer to the game. It's a file that describes the arrangement of tracks in the corresponding .BIN, and sometimes they have a fucked up path set. Like this asshole named Mike here. You only need the BIN's filename to be in the path, not the full path, unless for some ungodly reason the BIN is in a different place from the CUE.

Some other emulators let you work without the CUE, either through making assumptions about the BIN that are only on average correct or by having a lookup table, and that's why archives with shitty CUEs get passed around on sites like emuparadise.

It's like 20 years out of date, most inaccurate SNES emulator by far, and even has a vulnerability to malicious code embedded in ROMs.

higan was found to have more lag than bsnes-mercury after that fix was applied. byuu knows about the SNES hardware, but he is not a latency expert at all and has never done any serious tests, but yet expects everyone to take his word as gospel, which unfortunately some rubes do.

Right now it's one of the worst SNES emulators, isn't always the right speed, will *always* have incorrect sound, and still has graphical glitches in some games. It's about having self-respect. Talking trash and underestimating other devs for no good reason is not a smart strategy for someone who wishes to build bridges... It has nothing to do with being self-absorbed. Why would any sane human being want to put up with excessive negativity? Being around negative people is poisonous (figuratively speaking).

The fact that he occasionally sucks up to certain devs adds fuel to the fire, because it makes his statements extra cringey.

There's a difference between constructive criticism and senseless trash-talking. There's nothing to gain from excessive negativity.

A common argument is to just "deal with it" or "ignore it", but the truth is that it's not that simple. These negative words and thoughts eventually manifest into action and that's where I and many sensible human beings have a problem. When people insult and underestimate fellow teammates, progress is likely to be hindered due to BS. Their teamwork will not be solid.

There's a big problem in the emulation scene where there's so much bias that it's often deemed more important to have a good image/reputation than to actually have knowledge/skills. Well known devs can say idiotic things and their cult followers will take their word as if it's the Gospel. When these famous devs talk trash about other devs, that causes more problems because belief can manifest into actions.

Hey I want to play Harmony of Dissonance but don't want to look at these bright neons. I'm trying to get Visual Boy Advanced to apply the color correction like in pic related and like this says under the "color correction" section.

http://fantasyanime.com/emuhelp/visualboyadvance#screen-filters-and-pixel-filters

VBA won't apply the color correction however. Any help? Using VBA 1.8.0.

RetroArch has a shader for it. VBA-M can do it too as well as mGBA iirc.

Try mGBA first.

Shame retroarch doesn't have a sega model 3 core. Seems like it would be a fuck ton easier to do than Dolphin. Its GPL so its not like the license would be a problem.

Have fun. I put a few hours into it, but JRPG's just aren't my thing. Here is a VITAL tip: hit f4 to unlock the framerate, and thus act as a fast forward feature. Cut the tediousness of combat and walking with it.

So, I can't get the mymc program to work for PS2 memcards. Just crashes all the time. Had to try it because all the save files you can find only aren't in the PCSX2 memcard format. Any other way to get save files for games I beat countless times back in the the day into PCSX2 memcard files?

Meant to quote (>>183114087) too.
>>
>>183156403
popslader is just a plugin that loads a menu to pick which version of the official Sony PS1 emulator module to load, the PSP's PS1 emulator changes every other firmware update due to Sony increasing compatibility with official PS Store games releases.
One side effect of this is that PS1 games never released in the Ps Store that used to work on an older firmware version may not work in a newer version, this is where popsloader comes in, it forces the game to use an older popsloader version.
