Do you mean November 17?

>>185622000
They've confirmed it's coming out this year in Europe.

I doubt I'll be able to - bein EUfag is suffering.

SMT IV Apocalypse came put September 20th for NA and December the 2nd for EU, same publisher. Wouldn't be surprised if we get EOV later too.
>>
Atlus has recently announced the release date to Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond The Myth for both North American and European audiences. The 3DS title will be out October 17 in NA, and a few weeks later in Europe on November 3.
>>
>>185623849
Well there it is. I guess 2-3 weeks is ok but you'd think they'd be able to get it down to simultaneous release in 2017. We don't even get the first print stuff either.
>>
>>185623849
I wonder what causes a few weeks of delay.
I know it is to be expected (and way better than what EU is used to) but I'm still wondering what this time is used for.

I tried to make those portraits for Stranger of Sword City but kinda failing - game requires each image to be scaled to 4 rather retarded sizes, 746x720, 350x380, 160x240 and 146x32. First one is not a problem, rest are stretched or squeezed. Any ideas?
>>
>>185627245
What if you made the canvas the required size, then sized the image to fit that canvas without looking stretched?

So mechanically speaking. What is your favorite class? Without factoring in sub-classes of course. Personally the Hoplite will always be my favorite defender-type class. Giving the protector a weapon specialization, and removing rear guard in favor of line guard makes more sense. And switch stab gives some damage to movement if you want it.

All in all the best defense class i've played with.

Didn't bother looking, monk was the direct link and I just clicked gallery and walked away.

Tile fetish was top tier. And given that we're all starting to sexualize ecosystems I don't think we're in a position to judge.

Seems like a strange visual stimulation caused by repeating patterns.
At least it's not gore.

Also I don't think imagining anime girls with certain similarities in color and accesories to the different strata is quite on the same level of wierdness - no in a world where shipgirls are a thing.

Princess in EO3: sort of pseudo-tank version of a bard is really different and the marginal healing was neat too. Deciding between rows to buff was interesting, especially when you could cancel them for single target heals. The EOU2 was more a spellcasting type and a bit more classic support.

I just drop each of the original pictures as a new layer into each template and resize/crop accordingly, instead of resizing the original image into the required sizes.

There's no reason to play the Untolds. Start with the originals.
>>
>>185687610
The original Etrian Odyssey and it's sequel are largely rendered obselete by the remake/ports. However, within the Untold games are Story Modes in addition to Classic Mode. These have a pre set party with their own dialogue and personalities as opposed to classic mode where you make up your own party and any personality is in your head.

You have 3 options IMO.

>EOU TMG
Remake of the first game and generally fine for newcomers. Story mode can ease you into the series but be forewarned that it's serviceable and nothing amazing. It also spoils the big reveal of the classic mode in the first 5 minutes.

>EO2U
Remake of the second game and also a ok place to start. The story mode is actually pretty decent this time round though the bosses suffer from hp bloat which can get annoying.

>IV
Released before the untold games so missing the quality of life changes they brought which can take some getting used to. Generally regarded as the weakest mainline EO game though still a great game for sure. No story mode and also the easiest in the series.

I think starting with EOU is best followed closely by IV then 2. The originals are obselete and 3 I feel is a bit rough for newcomers.
>>
>>185687610
>>185693545
I mostly agree except that if he's going to start with an untold it should be EOU2 because both 1's party (game play) and story are pretty boring. I'd think It will be very to go from EOU2's QOL changes to 3 or 4 .

If he starts with a mainline series, then as you said 3 if he wants a challenge, 4 for some QOL and a more gentle easing into the series.
>>
>>185696584
I'd think It will be very HARD to go from EOU2's QOL changes to 3 or 4 .

EO is a solid game, there are some bugs and mistranslations but it's still a good game.

EOU changes some features, introduces some class balances and introduces a Story mode in addition to one of the franchises selling points; telling your own story via Classic mode.

Personally having never played EOU I don't find anything wrong with recommending the original Etrian Odyssey. And if you like it you can always jump to the next entry or to any entry you want as the series constantly improves itself.

Really there are very mixed opinions about whether the untold games invalidated the need to play the original EO. And it's true that with the many quality of life changes the series has undergone that the 3DS games can make it harder to jump backwards in the series.

What are you looking for? A slightly rougher experience that is just as rewarding. Or a more modern take on the original idea with some more JRPG trappings should you play the story mode?
>>
>>185675098
>>185675698

I went with "Shinigami no Shi" as a second name, and even used the Kanji in the Jp version to make it more elaborate. "Death God's Death" doesn't quite have the same ring to it, maybe I'll just go with "Shikiller" instead.

Firing Gungnir is what he was build for.
His entire life, the thousand years of isolation that he waited, were for this one thing.
Even if you don't go too deep into the whole "AIs are different from us" thing I can understand why he was klinging to his objective.

Also he may or may not have been corrupted by the core - we were hooking up all these Geomagnetic Fields to Gladsheim even though the entire forest seems corrupted.
So maybe there is some intelligence in the core and it wanted Gungnir to fire but hamper its output so the forest would get destroyed while the core is safe and finally free.
>>
>>185684652
No solo adventures! The story party is stitched together.

If you only want to make Grimoires with Ricky just take off the Grimoire of everyone else iirc you need to hold a Grimoire to make Grimoires.
Otherwise just rest everyone else and don't spend their skill points.

Heels are terribly useless things even on properly paved sidewalks - in a labyrinth they are actively hurtful.

But... she's gotta step on me....

Besides, if we're talking about realism. Bringing a dress plus a crinoline is just asking to get snagged and tangled all the time. Not to mention the extra weight for no reason.
But hey its a character design, EO has a lot of pseudo-realistic designs when it comes to armor and weapons. But they add charm to the portraits and classes.

Does anyone stream these games? and are there special portraits for race class changes in EOV?
>>
>>185733842
Sometimes there are EO streams. Not often though.

You only have specific portraits for the classes a race can start in.
There are generic portraits that you can also use but that's about it.
>>
>>185733842
Why would you want to watch a stream of EO? The bufuboyz one was complete garbage from what I saw

>>185734210
Oh fuck, so a therian reaper would just be a generic portrait then?
>>
>>185734956
A Therian Harbinger could be any Therian portrait - so a Masurao, a Rover or the generic one.
It depends on what you chose at character creation.

DLC portraits are also a possibility - but there is no portrait of a bunny with a scythe in the game.

The root enemies in the back have a charge attack that casts instant kill on your entire party if they can use it.
The crabs go enrage for massive damage if another enemy dies - I'd say even more than Thunder Spawns because they attack immediatly whenever something dies.

In EOIII it's more that you want to kill everything instantly before the fight goes south.
And EO2U's post-game random encounters are pretty boring, to be honest.

It's pretty tame and easy for EO post-game standards.
If you never had a post-game you won't notice that.
And there are a ton of bosses. Way too many bosses - you will probably notice that either way.

I'd still finish it first just so you are done before jumping into the next game.

>2.
EO2U had some strange difficulty spikes where the game did want you to do something the correct way and if you did it wrong you got punished (mostly with party wide overkill damage).
Those spikes are not in EOV.
So it's easier than 2U just because of that.
Still I'd say it's closer to 2U (without the spikes) than IV.

>3.
Probably yes.
They are making Persona Q 2 and even though Atlus often releases games late in the cycle of a console the clock is ticking.

Every gameplay element that comes from EO only compounds to make the game more annoying. The AI is retarded or outright works against you and the gameplay elements exclusive to this game (anthill structure, managing forts, amber rush) only make the game worse than it could be. Monter distribution, strengths and weaknesses aren't very well thought out either.
Also, the psotgame is one of the most miserable experiences I've ever had with games but over half of the story is locked there.

During the main game it can be fun at times though and it's quite easy. Just don't pay too much for it. I'd feel bad paying even half of the base price but that's up to you.

Simply put, the director did a very poor job with this, many of the issues could have been cut at his end.
>>
>>185777252
>>185778539
What makes the postgame so bad is that it interacts with another of this game's quirks: (almost) every boss is a puzzle boss. This means that on top of there being a lot of bosses, you can't even brute force your way through them, every fight (but salamander and juggernaut, I guess) will take a while... and soon after you will be dropped into the next boss fight.
And if you have DLC, that's an extre four bosses meant to be fought during the postgame (plus a pretty bad and lazily designed 7-boss gauntlet).

And well, Forbidden Forest is not just easy - it's boring. Visually, it's the simples of the five forests in this game, the encoutners aren't really menacing (which would be the easy part) and it overuses fog rooms over four floors, which just take forever to traverse while nothing is really going on (and then you have to return to them if you want to get those floor jumps).

It's probably still worth playing through but it's going to be a bit of a slog.

As for the medic... it's jsut a dress. We've gotten dresses before, and if you want to point out the "sailor" neck, she's borrowing that from mediko as a direct reference.

And I don't have any complaints about EO3 portraits other than male arbalists being hideous, it's actually my favourite set in the series.

>I think you might be overreacting to plaid miniskirts anon
It's not just the skirt, the characters just look like kids in uniforms with swords/vials. It wouldn't be a problem if they weren't standing directly next to designs that actually fit the class more to a T. And I would like to say that it applies to both the male and female variants but it's exclusively the female models that do this for those two classes. I didn't even care about the female landsknechts in EO1 because that was mroe of a shiitake than what is in IV.

>We've gotten dresses before
And those classes like the Soverign also have armor or something to make them look like an adventurer of some type or at least like their profession.

>and if you want to point out the "sailor" neck
EO1 Medics also wore lab coats so at least there is something there that looks like "doctor/healer" to their designs.

Really my problem with IV's portraits is that the few that look good only look good because they are standing next to bad ones. More stitched on heads than I care to like and stuff like the Fortress, Arcanist, and Imperial just look bad. The latter could have been good had the game leaned more into armor of that type for more than one class for the portrait.
>>
wtf why is the fortress portrait bad?
>>
>>185792202
I might a bit of an uniform on medic because of the plaid kilt skirt+sailor neck but it's still a long shot. I'll concede on the lab coat though (why would you carry that when adventuring anyway?)
Schoolgirl landsknecht is outright madness. Taking a school uniform form a skirt is such a long shot it circunvents the planet.

>And those classes like the Soverign also have armor or something to make them look like an adventurer of some type or at least like their profession
Gear pieces excuses some classes (including landsknecht) but not many others like ronin, alchemist and specially war magus (make fang's hat shorter and she could be a porcelain doll). The garb of many others, while fitting for their class, is questionable when you're gonna go neck deep into uncharted lands.

>Arcanist, and Imperial just look bad
Objectively wrong.
If for Imperial you're complaining about them looking foreign to the rest, you're aware that they ARE foreign, right? They come from a land that is not only distant but technologically way more advanced. They ARE supposed to follow a different fashion sense.

No anon. One medic clearly is a doctor and the other is some kid in a skirt playing with test tubes. Lab coat or not.

>but not many others like ronin, alchemist and specially war magus
Ronin at least hold true to their concept across the board. Same with Alchemists and their gauntlets of power. War magus are interesting, part witches or shaman, but then you have Walter C. Dornez. But I've never minded them since the hats evoke the red mage image and they are most definitely red mages within EO.

>If for Imperial you're complaining about them looking foreign to the rest
They look like they are from a monster hunter game. That's how foreign they are. I get the concept of the class, but Yggdroids looked more in place than Imperials.

Arcanists look bad because their poses and outfits aren't really that interesting. Stick people are perfectly fine, but only the males have somewhat decent outfits.

And really that's the big problem with IV's portraits. Either classes like the Fortress and Arcanist who have bland poses or like the fortress which doesn't emphasis the classes main feature unlike any other defender portrait. Or just designs that clearly look like they are pandering without at least the minimal excuse for fitting in with the setting.

If EO1's portraits are basic fantasy tropes with the odd Dark Hunter exotic type. EO2 is a continuation with the odd Gunner's being from the northern regions. EO3 is more slated towards Island themes with the classes that represent off island occupations like the Soverign being different. EO4 looked at that and missed the point. EO5 is more a return to form and gives back the energetic poses of III, while not having classes look as scattered in quality as 4.

Although portraits like Nene have also filled the meme tier of character portraits so what can you do. Artists gonna draw what they like.

Arbalist isn't wearing a tuxedo made from dead bugs. Monster Hunter did not Pioneer the idea of people carrying around giant crossbows. And the design of the arbalest still fits in with the "Island" theme that the majority of the classes adhere to with no problem.

>>185800215
I've been dissing a lot of classes from 4, but glasses medic is probably the worst offender for the reasons I've already listed. Do you disagree that the glasses medic has nothing going for it that makes it seem like a medic class? Even when compared to the male models of the same class.

I just think in general for has some of the weakest designs going for characters. War Magus is might look out of place when you look at a female models and the British model there isn't really a hard consistency between what the war magus is this supposed to invoke in terms of theme (red mage is about it) but at least they look good in the general sense. But somebody already brought up the farmer which could have looked a lot better and I tend to ignore classes like the night seeker and dark Hunter entirely because they're meant to be that outlandish BDSM style class. My nishil complaint was only about the variance of a class portrait that did not match the theme at all and in one case undermined it by not having anything recognizable as a medic outside of a tool.

If your class has a theme stick with it. And when you're sticking to that theme make it look good. Those are really the only rules I care about. They can be little kids or grown-ass adults as long as they look interesting I like them. It's just unfortunate that etrian Odyssey 4 has the weakest overall designs for classes. Especially coming off of the very well done you EO 3.

It has test tubes. Which for some classes is all it takes, like alchemists wearing chinese suits when we know that alchemists wear colorful dresses with frills, ethereal pieces and weird hats.
>but at least they look good in the general sense
Which is exactly what I think about medic. She has a neat design, doesn't look more out of place than many many other classes, isn't rock bottom at not representing her job and meshes naturally with the rest of Tharsis.

Long Thrust works better for random encounters; it's cheap, deals decent damage, can hit enemies on the back row at full damage, when upgraded it has priority.
>>
>>185826441
Spear Assist increases its TP cost on 5 and 10 like most skills.
Cross Charge on the other hand only increases HP costs at that level.

8TP are something you can pay more easily later on, compared to 16TP, 22TP or even more in EO2U Spear Assist wants from you.
At the very beginning when 8TP is still a huge amount for physical classes normal attacks are still viable.

And yeah - Delayed Charge is for bigger fights, not for random encounters.
>>
>>185826801
yeah I know that much, but the skill point cost to get Cross Charge is huge. I usually just put some points into Head Pierce as its goodish damage with the chance of Head bind or Instant Death.
>>
>>185827105
Highlander is really not that good for inflicting anything because their relevant stats (TEC/LUC in U, LUC in 2U) are rather low..
But if it works out for you it should be fine.

I usually build towards a late-game build from the get go and use characters like Alchemists that use their early game skills all game to bridge the gap.
It works for me - this way physical attackers often only start learning thier useful skills when they can actually afford them with their natural TP growth.
>>
>>185827652
I'm not really going for the bind or instant death, but if I get it its nice to have.
But still I do build for Cross Charge and Delay Charge. But since it takes a long time to get there, I rush 5 point into Bloody Offense first as TP is tight at the start with Chimera, so doing more damage for everyone is well wanted.

Personally, I'm doing a run that would have be a mix of EOU/EOU2's story party together. Protags and Heroines plus a Protector.

The damage they do on a single target is crazy, but have little to no shutdown so fights get dicey if you don't try and finish them quick.

Okay, I uploaded those EO portraits for Stranger of Sword City I made:

mega.nz/#!dvx2EISD!04MfIe5FWNoKSYc4BOI3YljdAaKl-KCOOjvBLNduo2E

Contains 16 portraits with 14 being EO V classes ones, one with EO2 Teach and one with Ricky. Game allows only 16 cutsom ones anyway. Portraits go to "PICTUREGATE" folder in game directory, they are already named properly.

I hope somebody will find that useful.

>>
>>185851401

Dark Spie is Wizardry love letter - very hard, very punishing and with bonus option to make it look like first Wizardry (aka corridor made out of 4 white lines). I bounced away from it due to it being too hardcore and how I had to keep casting spell to simply being able to take a look at the map.

Farmers have a specific purpose and it's not fighting.
>>
>>185852448
>any pointers for EO3?
Make a team of 5 Farmers, put all their starting points into Combat Study, and leave them at the guild. Check on them every now and then and keep giving them points in CS, gathering, and enemy avoidance until you can comfortably take them out to farm gathering spots.

Like in the other EO games, try to have a tank (Hoplite or Princess/Hop) and a healer (Monk or Princess/Monk).

You want some kind of elemental protection skill (Hoplite or Zodiac) by the 5th strat.
>>
>>185852448

Like tips?

In such case, forget about Princess class - her passive healing is simply too weak outside first few floors. I mean you will want to later subclass into Monk/Princess since buffs are still very useful and one of the buffs, healing selected row each turn, is actually utilizing Monk class passive that improve healing (without it, it is too weak). Overall, since subclass skills can reach max level, unlike EO IV, III have much more interesting class combinations. Ninja/Zodiac for example can utilize both Ninja class passive (reducing TP cost for skills) with Zodiac Dark Ether skill that makes single row use their skills for 0 TP for single turn. Combine that with Ninja ability to double itself and poof - whole party can use skills for 0 TP during boss/FOE fights. Hoplite/Ninja is best defensive option. Shogun/Buccaneer is overated.

Rest is typical EO stuff.
>>
>>185853071
>In such case, forget about Princess class - her passive healing is simply too weak outside first few floors.
My first run of III I used a Princess for healing which took me all the way through the maingame, at least (then I went to NG+ and a different party instead of doing the postgame). She's obviously not as good as a Monk but she does fine for healing.
>>
>>185853356

I was always having problems with her healing being way too weak when I tried her and when I subclassed her with Monk, P/M turned out to be VERY bad at her job and I had to help myself with items in first sanctum 3 mini-boss fight.

To be honest, its really about class passives in the end - Princess one let her regain TP when buff ends, which is pointless if you have "TP battery" in team aka Ninja/Zodiac. Monk one improve healing by a LOT and is clear winner here.
>>
>>185852448
Ninjas are held back by only being able to use their skills with knifes - which are super weak, meaning they deal bad damage.

Buccaneer has bad damage at the start but around level 40 they start putting out good numbers with Pincushion (and only Pincushion since it's damage modifier increases with AGI).

Farmers are not a combat class.

Ailments and binds sadly fall off hard - EOIII introduces accumulated resistances. In EOIV you can remove them with a skill of the Arcanist, in the Untolds they fall off naturally.
In EOIII they stay on forever whihc means as boss fights go on the bosses become immune to all ailments and binds.
Which is why Wildlings are sadly not all that great.
>>
>>185853653
On the other hand running a Ninja/Zodiac menas you are effectively running a party of four people - which gets really bad in the fifth stratum.
Dark Ether becomes less useful even in the fourth stratum as TP pools increase.
>>
>>185853820

Ninjas actually can do nice damage and have insta-kill skill with pretty high chance to connect, even against certain FOEs.
>>
>>185853820
>Ninjas are held back by only being able to use their skills with knifes - which are super weak, meaning they deal bad damage.
Though if you really want to run a Ninja that's not a TP battery, go N/B and max Kubikiri for instakill fun.
>>
>>185853921

Again, cant agree with that - in fact, in later sanctums, it was even more useful combination due to importance of skill using and how quickly said TP would burn out otherwise. That way, my Gladiator/Shogun could use her atacking skills every-turn instead of only few times. Not to mention that without it, my Monk would have to utilize TP regen items to keep healing during certain boss fights.

It bites the ass in sea boss fights tho.
>>
>>185854306
Anon, don't try to railroad the new guy into using the exact same party you did. Give him advice on how to make different classes work, instead of acting like only optimized stuff is usable.
>>
>>185854783

Sorry, my inner minmaxer is getting control of me ;_;

But in fact, overall most class combinations are viable, more or less. Even Princess passive healing problems can be dealt with how one guy subclassed her with Ninja and copied her during fights (still had to regain divided hp tho) and thats only one of solutions.
>>
>>185855212
>Even Princess passive healing problems can be dealt with how one guy subclassed her with Ninja and copied her during fights (still had to regain divided hp tho) and thats only one of solutions.
And if I recall correctly enemies have a greater chance of targeting whoever has the most HP in a row, so putting her in the front with your high HP units is better for keeping Royal Veil going than leaving her in the back with the squishy units.

>The Dark Spire
The Dark Spire is still worth playing but in my opinion it's much harder than EO is some regards. If EO is a modern take on old school dungeon crawlers with modern interfaces and arguably a more forgiving difficulty curve. The Dark Spire is a love letter to old school games and embraces both their merits and flaws more readily.

It's old school in that a single enemy might represent up to 9 actual targets, and there can be as many as 4 stacks of enemies in an encounter while your party size is restricted to 4. Class options are very D&D in that you have starter classes and can later learn prestige classes after you reach a certain point/level cap. And it's brutal on every floor. You will die a lot but at least you can save in the dungeon.

However, it's got a great atmosphere and good design. My biggest complaint is that shops don't tell you how weapon damage works, you will need to consult a wiki because one sword may deal 1d4+3 damage while another might deal 1d6 and they won't necessarily be listed in order of damage.

Give it a shot, you might find you like the vintage feel.

It does, in some way. Age 10-19 gets 3 life points and minimum of 3 bonus stats (but game is mean and you will roll minimum for 95% of rolls), age 20-39 gets 5 bonus and 2 life points, 40-59 7 bonus and 2 life points while 60-99 gets 1 life point and minimum of 10 bonus points on character creation.

When character dies, it lose 1 life points, if it reach 0, character vanish forever so 1 LP characters are VERY risky (life points can be reovered by resting at base). The only exception is main character that dont lose LP at all so it should be made age 60+. Yes, badass grandpas on the run: the game.

If you only want damage, going Medic → War Magus is excellent. Survivalist → Gunner is decent too. Landsknecht → Ronin could work if you want a more durable Ronin. Medic → Princess was another decent one, I think. The stats don't need to be datamined since they're displayed by the game, so the JP wiki has accurate info.
>>
>>185870336
If you want a Palm Alchemist a Medic is a good fit - they have barely less TEC and way more VIT.

Landy can do similar things for Ronin or even Highlander good STR and VIT but everything else is lacking.

Just picked up Untold on a whim and noticed there seems to be a lot of division on it. I was hoping to jump in and try etrian odyssey out, but am I right in my understanding that if I dont play the story mode then I screw myself out of some content?
>>
>>185944406
Sadly there are some things locked behind story mode.
The new side dungeon, the Gunner class originally from EOII, the new Highlander class, the best katana (for whatever reason), codex completion and several achievements are locked behind story mode.

That being said, classic is still enjoyable.
>>
>>185944406
You only lose the story characters, and a katana.
>>
>>185944951
>>185945010
I see, well is this even a good one to start with?
>>
>>185944951
The locks suck, but only matter if you want 100% completion. And once you finish story mode, you can use the gunner/highlander in classic, but you can't make any new characters for either class.

>>185946550
It's a fine game to start with. But I'd say U2 is a better game.
>>
>>185946550
If you already have it you can start with it just fine.
But it is one of the harder ones that doesn't have an easy cheese party to simplify things.

EOIV as the easiest gives a more lenient start (although it has an overworld and several smaller dungeons so it moves a bit aways from the usual EO formula).

Still, starting with EOU is not bad - you just have to decide between story and classic mode which is kind of an annoying choice since both are missing something.
They fixed that in EO2U where the only thing locked behind story is the Fafnir class.
>>
>>185946874
>>185946902
Well then Ill dive in, but just from yalls experience if you were going to only play it through once would you still try this games story or just go to classic for the EO experience if Im looking to find out if I like the games.
>>
>>185948036
for a once and done and for a grasp on the series as a whole, do classic.
>>
>>185948036
Since it's your first EO go with classic mode.
>>
>>185948036
Definitely classic. The characters and story in U1's story mode are boring anyways, so you're not missing anything there.
>>
I finished Persona Q last week, so I decided to dive right into the EO series. Currentlky playing EO1 DS, to get a feel for how the series first started and its looking pretty rough. Understandable since it's the first game in the series. It's cool that you can customize your character via skill points, but the game is making me feel like I'm not putting them in the right places, though I still am getting by.
My current team is a Protector, Survivalist, Troubladour, Medic, and Alchemist all being level 11 (I'm kinda being dumb by making sure they all have the same amount of experience). I finally made it to the 4th floor of the first stratum, been able to defeat the first 2 type of FOEs you find (Actually was surprised that the game forces you to defeat the Ragealoupe).

A few questions:
1) What is better, leveling up a single skill or having multiple low level skills. Does it vary with class?

2) What's the best way to manage points between skills and item harvesting? Should I just have a guy dedicated for chopping, mining, taking?

3) Why is poison dealing enemies such a pain to fight against?

>>185948124
>>185948129
>>185948220
Thanks foe the advice anons. I'll look into throwing a team together now then
>>
>>185948284
1) depends on several things, including classes, TP, and the actual skills you're investing in. many skills have diminishing returns and are best at 1 or 2 until you get really late and have free points. some you need to invest 4-7 in to even be worth using.

2) main team = no harvesting. make a secondary team focused on just harvesting

3) poison's a bitch. but abusing poison yourself is also great.
>>
>>185948284
1. For attack skills the former, for support skills the latter. Having 1 strong max skill outweighs multiple weaker ones as you usually don't need them. Meanwhile having multiple buffs & such is useful.

2. Yeah, you rarely want to waste points on gathering / field stuff on your main party, since SP are so precious. A single point at most if you want to pick up stuff on the go, but it's easier to have 1 Survivalist (or 5) to do individual runs.

3. Automatic damage is pretty steep against the player. It's basically another free attack.

Good news is that 2 and 3 get improved later on. In 3 you get multiple skills that block ailments and in 4 you don't need skills to gather.
>>
>>185948284
>1
A few strong skills are usually better than a bunch of weak ones - you want your actions in a turn to count.
In later titles it might be useful for physical classes and their small TP pool to spread out a bit in the beginning to keep things cheap.
In EO1 however skills aren't that strong (most only reaching 180% damage of a normal attack if not less) so having your physical characters use normal attacks and saving your costly skills is viable.

>2
Make five Survivalists, give them harvesting skills, don't bog down your active party with gathering.
Later on you can grind them up and getthe Stalker skill to prevent random encounters if you want to collect things in higher level areas.

>3
Poison scaling has always been out of whack and in the early games it's even worse.
Unfortunately any poison you can inflict falls off later on.
Just try to kill poisoning enemies fast - there is not much else you can do.
>>
>>185948284
>>185948909
I'd say maybe 1 point into each gathering skill on your main team, but no more than that.
>>
>>185948909
>>185948980
>>185949076
>>185949087
Okay, so make a separate team for collecting and just deal with poison as fast as possible. Thanks for the advice! The game is quite enjoyable for now, I just wish some treasures were more rewarding.

For that first question, I decided to try making a secondary team that solely focused on boosting Attack: A dark hunter, a Landsneckt, and a Medic. This only lead me to having more questions:

1) why the hell would the medic have an attack boost, I mean it's helpful since it feels like he could be in the front row for now with his 8+ Atk Up. Since skills max out at 10, maybe this is a good way of building a medic, making him deal damage first then learn healing skills later.

2) They seem to be growing in level much faster than my main team. Is it because there is only 3 people in the party? If that's true, should I just solo grind the landskecht to become a max damage power house?

3) I never quite understood the benefits of the boost mechanic, does it just make whatever the character does stronger? Does it effect buff skills when being casted as well?

4) Does leveling single songs effect how much the stat is boosted? Ex. Does a level 2 Bravery increase attack more than a level 1?
>>
>>185950092
2. Yes, exp is divided by the number of people in the party.

3. It raises the lv of the next skill you use by 5.

4. Yes, the high lv a buff is, the greater the increase. The duration also increases at 5 and 10 points.
>>
>>185950390
And yes a boosted skill can go above lv10.
>>
>>185911793
Procrastinating. I could do a few more today though.
>>
>>185950092
1.
Medics attack boost in EO1 is completely broken.
For most classes it gives something like 30% increased damage - for Medics it's something like 190% (almost trippling their damage).
However I would first go for the healing (and Immunize) unless you are really hurting for damage.

2.
XP get divided by how many party members you have. In a party of 5 you get 20% XP on each character in a party of 3 33%.
Starting with EOIII quests and missions give XP and these XP don't get shared between your party - if a quest gives everyone 500XP it will do so no matter how many party members you have.
So with 3 members you get 1500 total and with 5 2500.

3.
Like >>185950390 said: five more levels for skills.
Buff skills are probably the most useful ones to Boost since they strengthen your party for quite a while (and scale nicely) while attack skills get just a one time damage increase.

4.
Yes. Bravery increases damage by 10% at 1, 40% at 10 and 50% at 15 (10 boosted).
However the Preludes work differently in EO1 to what they do in later titles.
All leveling them up does is make the buff come out faster and reduce the TP cost.
Preludes only work on normal attacks (not skills) and what they do is add a second attack in the element of the Prelude.
Which straight up doubles the damage of anyone using a normal attack. This is better than most skills since they often max out at 180%.
Especially with a Landsknecht that has Double Attack things can hurt a lot for not that much TP. Great against physically resistent enemies and in long fights.
(They are way weaker in later titles though - so don't get too attached to them.)
>>
>>185950390
>The duration also increases at 5 and 10 points.
Iirc in EO1 Troub buffs have an infinite duration - but it has been a while since I last played the first game so I might be mistaken here.
>>
Alright, I threw a party together for untold to check it out before going to sleep and my ronin died in two hits. Guess it wasnt kidding about them nit worrying about death.
>>
>>185952645
Two hits is good for a Ronin.
Often it only takes them one unless they are protected by Front Guard.

Ronin is made of tissue paper.
Not a bad class but you need to be careful if you use one.
>>
>>185953524

>>
>>185953674
The very early game is usually pretty tough in EO titles.
Once you get more equipment and skills it becomes more manageable.
EOU stays pretty demaning all the way through but it's not quite as harsh as the first encounters imply.

Sometimes they manage to do both at once.
I like Petal Bridge in EO2U - all the FOEs feel like they kind of make sense the way they behave. Except maybe the frogs. Being stupid should be a rhino thing.

But then you have something like Ginnungagap B2F - room with puzzle, shortcut back, room with puzzle, shortcut back. It is a bit silly.
>>
>>185953902
Well I'll take another crack at it, my starting team is guardian, landsnake or whatever, medic, alchemist and a currently very dead ronin.
>>
>>185956679
Solid party for a first playthrough.
Even though Landsknecht can take hit really well you probably want to be spamming Front Guard just for your Ronin.
It's what Protectors do for most of the early game anyways - and after a few levels they even have the TP to afford it.
>>
>>185956914

>>
started eo2u with dark hunter/war magus/gunner/hexer/troubadour, at around what level does it stop being boring?
>>
>>185957153
Probably around the third or fourth floor enemies should stop dying to your Gunner and Darh Hunter instantly and give more damage than your DH can take in return.
>>
>>185957042
In many single player RPGs tanks are something you begrudgingly cart around for boss fights while they are underwhelming in any other fight.

Since damage in EO is rather high and the FOE system exists tanks are useful in many fights and even more useful in boss fights.
It's ony thing I really like about the series.
>>
>>185960728
What I like about EO is that almost every fight you have to at least think a little and use actual skills and your resource instead of just Auto Attack Spam like a lot of other Turn based RPGs.
>>
>>185960982
Together with the fact that you often don't actually get into that many fights to make progress it makes for way less button mashing.
Which is great.

Does V follow same approach?
>>

I didn't notice anything like that in U2 myself. Maybe it's more apparent with a poor party comp

Untold 2 has bar none the highest boss HP in the series.
But several classes also are able to deal damage to match that HP just fine. Without those classes you can run into problems though.

In EOV both HP and damage are toned down.
>>
>>185975452

They're really high, but it works out since you're going to be dealing a fuckhuge amount of damage with the Force Breaks if you pick good attacking classes.

Its more of Class of Heroes like game. Experience Inc made it, if that tells you something. Also, harder in fact - in EO if your dudes die, they can be revived without problems. In Stranger if they die they lose "life points" (each character having 1-3 of such). Once they reach 0 - permadeath. And the only way to revive somebody is to carry them back to town, no field resurrection. And enemies are rulled by rng so you might simply run into guys dealing 100 dmg when you have around 50 hp in tutorial zone, just like in Class of Heroes.

I just ran into them once to be honest. Game actually outright tells you that if something looks dangerous, it IS dangerous and if you are not sure - run. You even get 100% chance running away skill at the very beginning (requires "morale" points that builds up during fight tho) for this very reason.

Really, game IS pretty much more brutal take on Class of Heroes. No skilltrees like in EO, instead your dudes unlocks skills as they gain levels (like being able to perform attack on whole row, being able to equip new weapons/armors, etc) and they can actually carry on certain skills while reclassing (up to 5 times and each reclass cuts your current level in half, rounded down) so there is still place for builds discussions. For example, Dancer class is pretty shit on its own but have certain very useful skills that others would benefits from and Cleric at level 28 gains skills that provide 100% protection against aliments so everyone and their mothers wants to be Cleric at some point.

F/D should only get outsped by rare breeds unless you are fighting enemies far above your level.

How is your Sniper/Imperial wearing a katana anyways? Only Bushi can equip katana.

Alright It's a new day and after a nights sleep I'm ready to try and get destroyed in untold again. I'm just not sure if the game has a ton of useless skills or if the number of viable options is pretty big.

also since people mentioned it's normal for ronin to die in 1 to 2 hits, how can you reliably use him? Doesn't that mean all it takes is one turn where two enemies target them by chance?

Sniper/Bushi I mean.

If you mess up your skills, you can go to the guild and rest. doing so will reset your skill points, but the character will drop 2 lvs.

A combination of buffs and debuffs will help ronin survive better. I used protector, ronin, troubador, hexer, and alchemist for my U1 classic/expert run and it worked out very well. Most of the time I had the troub buff atk/def, hexer debuff atk/def, protector used front guard, and ronin survived just fine most of the time.

Healing can be a problem early on, so I'd get a couple low lv healing grimoires asap. Around the end of the 2nd I unlocked a drink from rosa called elderevenge, which when combined with the troubadours echoing rondo, makes for an awesome heal.
>>
>>185992539
Sadly, there are quite a few weak skills. Most are not complete trash just not optimal.
You can rest a character which resets their skill points at the cost of two levels. So you can experiment a bit.

Rules of thumb: Active skills before passive skills.
Masteries only as far as you need them for your skills (since they are rather weak passives).
Get your active skills to level 4 or 9 and leave them there until you can stomach the increased TP cost 5 and 10 bring.

For Ronin: Front Guard is your friend - at 10 it decreases physical damage taken for the front line by 40%.
Protector is also an exception for the 4/9 rule - in EOU Front Guard even at 10 is so cheap and they have so much TP you can rush it to max just fine.

Ronin will often need a bit of luck - standard targeting prefers party members with high HP any beefier party members should shield them somewhat but if too many enemies decide they want your Ronin dead, they will likely die.
It is unlikely though so they will not spend all their time dead.
Upper Stance (the best Stance in my opinion) also has a slight defence increase and if you can get your hand on some gear with VIT it will help them greatly. VIT scales much stronger than armor so getting an accessory with it usually better than gloves or shoes.

>>
>>185993997
I see, I'll have to admit it's a little overwhelming jumping in but that makes enough sense. so would you say I should be able to keep front guard up pretty consistently?
>>
>>185992643
I beat the post-game with a F/D and I don't remember her getting outsped constantly.
Are you wearing the Tharsis Wing? The 10 AGI should help greatly.

As for your S/B - maybe Chase Bind is a weapon neutral skill so it takes the highest damage weapon? Do you actually use any katana skills?
If not you can use another bow or a dagger in the offhand - only the forges matter, their ATK is only used for skills that require your offhand weapon.
>>
>>185994428
Yea, it's what I had my protector doing 90% of the time. Also get their prayer skill, it restores hp/tp to the party at the end of combat.
>>
>>185994428
I usually spam Front Guard - unless there is only a few enemies left and I know I can kill them before they act or I am sure they can not kill me even if they act.

You will use up your TP but so should everyone else. In EO you usually don't go into the dungeon for hours on end - you go in, make progress, use your resources and get out.
So don't be shy about using skills - else you will probably die.

>>185994601
Prayer is way too expensive as an actual skill.
It needs HP Up 5, Cure 5 and Party Cure 3 - a ton of skill points for a not all that strong effect.
As a Grimoire it's nice but getting that as a new player is way too much hassle.

Fat fishes and sea horses hurt like shit if you don't use Ice Wall.
The fish boss will sleep your party unless you use Ice Wall against Flood.
The bird boss' Thunderwing hurts like hell and can paralyse.

Sure, you can get around this in other ways - but why take a Protector with you if not to actually use Protector skills?
I don't think getting like 6 TP per battle is a good trade-off.

EO is a game about making repeated trips into a persistent dungeon and progressing a little more each time. How far you can go in one trip will depend on your party and skills, so part of the game is learning your limits.
>>
>>185997547
neat, well I just finished the floor, but it actually felt like there was a sense of pressure since enemies actually do some degree of damage.

You need full ice coverage for the fish boss to deny the sleep and full volt coverage for the bird boss to deny paralysis.
So you could wait out on Fire Wall until the post game.

My Protector is usually the last person to run out of TP in a boss fight.
In normal exploration it can be a problem but I prevent spamming Walls by killing elmental enemies first.

EO can get surprisingly intense for a turn based game in which nothing moves unless you do.
Running low on resources and seeing the encounter meter turn red when you know there is a shortcut right around the corner is pretty stressful.
>>
>>185997296
Could be, but "lmao" and all that is exactly what I see my kid brother and cousins using all the damn time. There's probably a cycle: 10 years ago everyone used internet slang of the day, over the years we moved towards full sentences and decent grammar, and assuming noot hasn't nuked the place in another 10 years we'll be back to whatever the new slang is.

Alternate theory: lazy phoneposters who won't type things out.
>>
on the topic of keeping my ronin alive, is evade any good in this? It just threw a whole bunch of stances at me so I'm not really sure since the game doesn't give me any solid percents.
>>
>>185997160
Doesn't flood have very low accuracy unless you're leg bound? And you could always use an accessory to prevent sleep.
But it shouldn't be hard to put 5 into ice wall by the end of the 3rd stratum, while still getting prayer. Then some people like to retire around that point, so you could move those points to volt wall before the end of the 4th stratum.

I don't like evasion in EO.
Except for the evade tanks it never gets high enough to be actually reliable. (There is no evade tank in EOU)

Personally, I feel Ronin is a damage character.
Upper Stance gives the most damage both as a buff and as with its skills.
The main use for Drawing Stance is Frigid Slash being ranged - if you are super worried about your Ronin you could have them in the back line.
I don't know how that works with a katana, but it does.
Only problem: Frigid Slash is quite a bit more TP costly than Horse Slash or Flame Grater.

I've already got a back row attacker with alchemist so I'll probably go full force with the ronin then. also speaking of the alchemist, are skills like focus and scavenge worth dumbing into tp up to get?
>>
>>185999302
>I've already got a back row attacker with alchemist
That's the weirdest criteria for deciding where to put a specific unit.
>>
>>185999720
well I've never played it before so I figured he has long rang elemental stuff so why would I put my ronin there too.
>>
>>185999302
The entire TP up tree is terrible.
Sadly, drop rates in EOU are so horrible (lower than they are in other titles) that picking up Scavanger might actually be worth it to safe some frustration with certain annoying fetch quests later on.

Focus will likely be overkill - Alchemist has a lot of TP and even though their skills get expensive it will usually be your Landsknecht or Ronin running out of TP forcing you back to town.

Also if you actually use the big Alchemist skills you will often kill random encounters in one turn, which means Focus has no time to procc.

Also tip for alchemist: Fireball, Icicle and Lightning are really TP inefficient. I would advice against them and only pick the "hit one" and "hit all" skills.
>>
>>185996885
You used "kys". What does that say about yourself?
>>
>>185999802
Why wouldn't you? Putting your ronin there won't sap your alchemist's strength.
It's detrimental to the ronin because only being able to use frigid slash is extremely limiting but your alchemist doesn't give half a shit about whether she's alone or not.
>>
>>185999302
Do at least a point in TP Up so you can get that initial boost. Alchemists have big TP pools in the end so it usually works out alright without needing Focus for it. Their main deal is Analysis + Dilution + single or AOE attack.

I didn't waste points on Scavenge. You'll find that once your team hits its stride, your backpack fills up really quickly without any increases to the drop rate.

>>185999939
I'm not that anon, anon. He should stop typing like a retard too.
>>
>>185999802
Alchemist and any other damage class work wuite differently.
Most damage dealers have STR based damage - it uses STR and weapon ATK against the enemy's VIT.
Alchemists have TEC based damage - it uses TEC against the enemy's TEC.

So an Alchemist and a Survivalist/ranged Ronin are not as redundant as it might seem. (Although I still don't think a Ronin going full on Frigid Slash is that great).

The most useful thing for you: When it comes to Alchemist (and Medic) give them the staff with the most TEC, not the one with the most ATK since weapon ATK has no influence on Alchemist damage.
>>
>they keep changing the Mastery names on the website
Stop fucking with my memory Atlus.
>>
>>186000134
I guess it just sounds redundant. I have someone in the back row doing damage and it sounds like ronin will shine more in the front.

Using both Dilution and Analysis takes too much time and unless you run multiple elemental attackers Analysis is usually stronger since most bosses have an elemental weakness.
And while Ronin and Landsknecht have elemental options their pure physical skills are usually better unless you build your entire party around elemental damage.

I'd recommend Analysis instead so you can ignore Fireball, Icicle and Lightning.

>>
>>186013258
They are pretty fun but also very dicey - unless you supercharge them with an elfs Chain Blast union skill (which inflicts all binds).

On their own they have one skill that punches an enemy once and then has a chance to use any bind skill for body parts that are not yet bound - so up to four hits.
And they have another skill that attacks once and then is guaranteed to deal another hit for each bind and any ailment the enemy has - so up to five.

They also have a passive that gives a chance to use a bind skill twice if you fail to inflict the bind (only works if you use the bind skill on its own not as part of the afformentioned combo skills).

It's no One Punch Man but you are still beating monsters into a pulp.

Dark Hunter poison stays strong all game.
Medic poison falls off to be merely ok towards the end - but there is not much else they could do offensively (other than getting Alchemist Grimoires).
>>
>>186016386
Yep, ailments and binds always have a big effect on fights. But you want a class that can reliably stick them (like Hexer or Dark Hunter).

Also make sure you have methods for preventing or healing ailments/binds. Poison can wipe your party in the early game.
>>
>>186016805
>>186016745
well if it stays at least OK then that's reason enough to invest for me, and I have medics skills for ailments etc so I'm not sure if those need a lot of points or if they are effective just having them.
>>
What game has the best battlemedic? EOU2 with ailing slash grimoire because of stats?
>>
>>186016943
For poison putting in points increases their damage and their infliction chance, for other ailments/binds only their infliction chance gets increased.
For early in the game a rank 10 poison is extremely strong - and a boosted one even better. It's like 400 damage per tick.

In EOU (and only EOU) TEC is the more important stat for inflicting while LUC has a lesser influence on it.
Since TEC also increases your healing you just keep putting TEC on your Medic and things will work fine.
>>
>>186017301
War Magus is essentially a battle medic.
But if you want a lab coat to go with it a Medic reclassed into a War Magus should also work.
>>
>>186016943
>I have medics skills for ailments etc so I'm not sure if those need a lot of points or if they are effective just having them.
For attacking: More points increases the infliction rate and damage dealt.

For healing: Adding points changes Refresh and Unbind from single target to line target (lvl 5) to full party (lvl 10). You don't have to rush to max them, but you will want to eventually.
>>

I've always wondered, do buffs work well when you stack them in the EO series? I mean stuff like having a defence boosting dance and line guard or preferably multiple attack boosting buffs. I feel like Shin Megami Tensei conditions you to use buffs and stack em to some extent whilst they're much more optional in EO. Binding seems to be much more important.

>Why would you NOT use an Alchemist/Runemaster/Warlock
Redundancy. They may be filling a niche that you don't need. I ran into this issue in EOIV's endgame, where I grew past the point where Runemasters were offering me anything other than, shockingly, mediocre damage. Which was really confusing, considering that for most of the game Runemasters will carry you through random fights with their AoE.

Take that back, Raquna is the only waifu worth your love.

I didn't bother with one in IV, my Linkshark gave all the elemental damage I could ask for.

Buffs have diminishing returns in EO. I forget exactly what the formula is, but you want to avoid having any more than three offensive buffs and three takes a lot of time to set up anyway. You absolutely do want to use buffs though, they can be absolutely ridiculously strong.

Passives are also subject to diminishing returns, but they don't take up turns so w/e.

Because it's a bad practice and it lead to greedy business decisions. (pre order exclusive content and so on and so on)
>>
>>186039312
I honestly love the idea of pre order exclusive stuff though
>>
>>186039312
As long as it doesn't drive up the prices I couldn't care less. Though I only preorder for stuff like EO where I know I want to play day one and there's low risk of anything being wrong with the game.
>>
>Etrian Radha wears a trench coat with armor underneath
Huh. Never really noticed. I actually like his design now that I've really examined it for the first time.

The only thing that's keeping me from pre ordering EO V is the fact that i find the character portraits kind of ugly compared to the rest of the series, convince me otherwise pls

I would if I could. I bet they aren't even gonna sell the game in my country at all, and if they do, it's probably gonna cost $100+. I'm buying it digital the moment it becomes avaible, like I did with EOU2. Might buy all the DLCs too.

Autism questions

1. Do I draw 3 black lines around chests and stairs on the map?

2. Do I draw two black lines around doors?

3. Does anyone else name their character after that characters class? I name my medic medic and so on

EOI Medic has godly attack skills. Caduceus is pretty much as close as you get to guaranteed stun in the game.

>>186032825
Balk. They're typically by far the most frail class in any EO game, barring meme builds (naked fencer / 4 sword furry). At a point I had to give Simon Parry grimoires to keep Arthur alive even with the HP+100 slapped on him.

>3. Does anyone else name their character after that character's class?
No, this is autism. I have an EOIV guild card like that.
>>
>>186049501
>Does anyone else name their character after that characters class? I name my medic medic and so on
I did this in EO3. Figured I would start the game and think of names later, but I either never got around to it or became attached to the class titles.

EO1 is special the way elemental infusions work.
Yes, they only work on normal attacks but what they do is just add another attack with the element to you regular attack.

Which means if there are no resistances in play your normal attack suddenly deal 200% damage.
Most skills max out at 180%.
The Preludes give you a lot of damage -
especially if your Landsknecht has a chance to use their normal attack twice.

Also Alchemist falls off lategame because their skills are basically acting like weapons - that max out around the fourth stratum.

So they are very powerful early but a waste of TP later.
I'd stick with a Troub unless you want to go Alchemist first and grind up a Troub later.

Again - only in EO1. In other titles the Preludes are way weaker and need to be used differently.
>>
>>186033201
You only have three buff slots, the enemy has three debuff slots.
And buffs stack multiplicative (they changed it to additive in EOV, sadly).

Buffs are strong.
So strong that in EOIII the metagame was just buffing all physical classes with Gladiator skills.
So strong that in EO2U - which tried to counteract buffs by a really harsh diminishing returns system - a properly buffed Dark Hunter can one-shot everything up to the post-game.
And a Fafnir with proper buffs can melt the final post-game boss n turn 3 (after two turns of set-up).

It is slightly different in EOV but one of the strongest EO post-game strats is usually stalling the enemy while you buff your party and then delete them with the power of math.
>>
>>186049501
There are some things that check your map - afaik they don't care at all what you do with chest or door tiles.

Strictly speaking no. But the artist is very fond of incorporating lolicon designs for character classes but there has been a shift away from that in the latest entry (EOV).

That being set aside from character portraits there's nothing really abrasive about the series in that regard. You're more than fine to jump in on any entry just keep in mind that the 1st and 4th as well as the untold games are probably the most egregious with respect to loli's running around.

>>186081686
This is probably my favorite thing about this evolution. We're finally gettingot more consistent older female portraits. But unfortunately all the older male portraits got stuck on dragoon so no grandpa rover.

I would have also liked if he did more variation in class poses. Male Pugilists is a good example.
>>
>>186088085

>>
>>186089195
Every female portrait should be a loli.
Every male portrait should be exchanged for a busty female portrait.
Some old female portraits should be added on top of that.
Who needs male portraits anyways? It must be such a bore for poor artists to draw them knowing neither they nor players will enjoy their work.
