I'm not that other poster but I agree with some of his badly explained shitposts.

The leveling system that consists mostly of getting +1 to one number in one role or taking a perk that gives you +3 to another in another role is not terribly engaging.
Increasing your accuracy by 1 point may be powerful and significant but it sure as hell ain't interesting, and as a result a lot of sil's leveling and gearing is pretty dull to someone who doesn't already have some level of mastery in the system and the experience to feel how valuable that +1 is.

I mean I see sil players posting about the "amazing weapon" they just found which is just like their current longsword but with 1 higher accuracy or 1 higher defense. If you're not already a sil player those numbers just feel shitty.

Yes. Heavy weapons are much more viable and blunt weapons work better against armored enemies by bypassing 1/4th of their armor rating. You can now beat Ancalagon to a pulp as a high strength dorf by smithing and wielding a 4d6 warhammer of dragonslaying.

Try the rune sword with that dude and buy a whole equipment of stuff to curse
You get 30 damaged with 0d0 and +2 speed while fully cursed so it gets pretty silly
Also permacursed items are a must for maladicts because of the spell that uncurses all your gear while healing you of 750 points with 40 sp since you can keep casting it over and over with permacursed items
Make sure to be chaotic so you get virtue enhanced spellrates

You can, but it's usually severely crippling rather than outright lethal. You can get a heart attack from drug overdose at least, especially if you get stuck in a spiral where you take drugs to deal with a severe injury, and then need more drugs and adrenaline shots to offset the other drugs you took.

No, it's actually just as he said in the threads this week: there's four guaranteed forges: at 100', 500', 800', and 900'.
Of course the deeper you go the stronger the monsters but also the more likely a forge will spawn and the higher probability of an enchanted forge too. But Look at this mess.
It's as I guessed: purely smithing builds are not going to be viable unless someone gets lucky and gets another forge or two between the guaranteed ones, so putting a lot of points into smithing early on is a big mistake. I think it's best to make +2 smithgloves, quickboots and a cloak of protection, while using the second forge to make gauntlets of strength, a +2 robe of constitution and an enchanted helm of brilliance. So, invest 6 points into smithing by 100' and then three point more by 500'. This means that you're free to spend your hard earned xp in all those 400 levels on evasion and melee, which are sorely needed. Worst case scenario you get a forge more and can craft stuff like a shield of frost or the very coveted boots of nimbleness if you managed to grab sprinting already.

I think I'm understanding the game a bit more.

Been years since I played adom, but I don't think there's anything you can do to actually protect your items.
You just need to learn the threats (Rust monsters? That was ADoM right?, Jellies, Water...) and item resistances. I can't remember the specifics, but the gist of it is that iron rusts, and wood burns, therefore swap out your quarterstaff if you're fighting a wizard with fireball and don't go swimming with your sword, or otherwise adjust your tactics so the monsters don't hit you.

Higher tier materials are generally more resistant to hazards but only artifacts and Eternium items are immune. Adamantium and Mithril for example doesn't rust, so swimming is fine. IIRC stone daggers and clubs are also very durable and near-indestructible.

Getting resistance or immunity helps for determining item destruction, using as few soft items as possible is preferable for various reasons, a ring of ice is mandatory to protect your boots/cloak/bracers/gloves etc and you will get at least one for doing the quests from the dwarf elder. Unfortunately there is simply very little you can do against acid/lightning and doors with runes on them.

For jellies specifically, a stone weapon can't be corroded, but generally you need metals higher than iron to resist the effects. However mithril and adamant weapons still have a very small chance to be corroded.

For non large rust monsters you can give them metal items to calm them down or even tame them if you have enough, if you carry around a bunch of crude knives/spears/battleaxes just give them away and they should become at least neutral quickly.

The one thing that I do find quite annoying is the lack of complete monster lore after you unlock the fork version of loremaster just like in regular sil.
I'm trying to understand how it's patched into the save file so I don't need to grab another perception skill that is quite useless if not for that part considering that loremaster is divided between alchemy (for everything but weapon/armor brands, much easier to grab than loremaster itself because it's 4 per points and 500 XP) and enchantment ( I grab it as a smith already for that).

Yeah, the constant need for detection/telepathy stuff just means that autoexplore wouldn't really work out - you really need to make sure where the high level enemies are or risk getting nothing personelled.

It would be nice for early levels when you dont really have detection and most fights are just boring popcorn with no thinking to them but it just doesn't work in the mid to endgame

You need 5 GRA and then you forge +2 gloves of forging.

You can't make boots of sprinting with that though. But you can make boots of nimbleness.

Is it better to just go full archery and forget about melee except for defender weapon for the EV boost? I think I spread my points too thin with flanking charge and points in melee when the longest bow did a perfectly fine job taking out the trash. With +5 from route, +5 dex and +6 from accuracy/archery gloves+ rings, + at least 4 archery for the first three abilities, we're looking at a +20 to hit on a 2d7 weapon (maybe if you manage to smith a 1 pound longbow even a 2d6 weapon that is literally always a 3d6 and most of the time a 4d6 against fleeting enemies) so why bother with melee that will very quickly become obsolete?

Finding that ring of sustenance on a fucking convict required thousands of startscumming attempts. The real gem was finding out that convicts can get to expert with their quest artifact ball doing incredible amounts of damage but also at the same time not be counted as a weapon
The real trick was farming thousands of vault guards for a ling time to get their really good drops, Wanda of death and potions of full healing along with occasional good magic equipment due to the sheer amount of numbers entailed but they also satiated me because I was a foodless and vampires get fed by hitting living things. I think the guards should really be genocidable (you look around but nobody comes) after hitting 200.
That's the good part. The horribly ungodly bad part was having a silver saber captain trying to prod my virgin vampire ass in case I even though of going to dwarftown. Not being able to use altars, engeave elbereth and pray made the game really tough and sometimes I died because of starvation before finding sustenance on accomplished characters (that's when I decided I need it at the start).
Also stun-biting famine for instadeath was not fun.
All in all an experience of a lifetime I would not want to repeat

Managed to grab dexterity from the archery tree, probably going to go with rapid shot. Finally found a mithril helm, so I'm melting it and turning into a lamp of brightness because light is seriously becoming a big issue. Thankfully I managed to grab a longbow of radiance. Shadow spider blinded me and hit me for half my health, the bastard.
Also got a staff of revelations with 5 charges and a staff of recharging to keep it full so I can scout which levels have forges.
Is inner light worth it?

My melee accuracy with glend is nearly the same as my longbow now.
I can foresee good things happening.
Ditched the +4 EV shadow cloak because the gauntlets have -light already and when I tried fighting belegwath I found myself being completely in the dark.
I fell into an oathwraith trance before and realized my will is pretty shitty so I'm putting points there now.
I've finally encountered a cat assassin and I have immediately learned to hate them with a burning passion and keep true sight on instead of brilliance. I've got a bunch of mithril but I have no idea how to use it since I've got everything I want already and mithril greaves can't have the +dex that I really really need. I'll probably melt everything and keep it around for a mithril corselet of resilience.

Overall archery was absolutely pants on head retarded. I killed big dragons, balrogs, actually two-shot telvido thinking it was a cat warrior with regular arrows with rapid fire, oneshot darting horrors, you name it. The best thing of archery too is that it keeps you *AWAY* from the danger (since 90% of the enemies of the game do not have access to ranged attacks and when they do you can still shoot at them from afar). It was a mistake to keep Glend, I was simply captivated by the big numbers and even in the end I was simply shooting scary stuff for most of the game and meleeing what I thought was popcorn (emphasis on thought). I almost died when I tried to melee greater werewolves, which usually died in two or three shots, because of the poison.
In the next run I'm going to keep focusing on archery (rout is so so good, I hope I manage to sneak a win before quirk nerfs it) and use a good shield with frost and a dwarven mask for RF.
I had even managed to grab angrist to scratch the crown and steal the sil!
Elven smiths are stupid poweful. Those stats are out of this world.

It's my first roguelike I've played and what was hard is learning how to play, and about the dungeon. Now that I've learned about the dungeon everything seems easy. I'm not saying you just pick up good items and win, I'm saying that after you learn about the game it becomes very linear and without much difficulty.

However summoning WILL avoid creating monsters that will be hostile to your pre-existing pets. So a PC who dominates an angel and then attempts to summon dragons will only get neutral or good-aligned ones IIRC

It definitely took some getting used to. The ASCII games I played before all have a different "scale", where no matter what the object is it takes up about 1 tile.

In CDDA things take up a proportional number of tiles based on what they are, except for creatures I think, and that makes for extremely different gameplay. Driving was very strange the first time I tried it because of how the car shapes morph as you turn and move.
