i just learned i structured my unity project wrong. i learned it would have been 100% correct to structure a multiplayer game that way outside unity, with separate server/client/shared folders each with their own assembly definition so theres absolutely no way server code can end up in the client or vice versa. but i asked the purrnet and fishnet owners if i had done it properly and they said it doesnt work that way in unity and you just keep the server and client code in the same scripts that exist on both sides and instead put "defines" all over the scripts that strip the code out depending on if its a client or server build. so now i got a lot of work to do to go back to that

>>548559548yeah. im considering making a game with threejs. i've explored the game dev ecosystem roughly 10x more than the average game dev i'd say. i made a prototype with it with multiplayer and it was nice. there's another popular option called babylon.js which i would stay away from not because its bad but if you just take threejs and then combine it with some popular physics library and some popular game input library, you basically have the exact same thing as babylonjs. i used nengi.js for the netcode, specifically nengi 2.0. if you visit their github you only see 1.0. thats because 2.0 is a so-called "unfinished" branch but its actually quite finished in my opinion just missing one unimportant feature. very stable. more importantly insanely scalable. it never took off enough in popularity compared to other js networking libraries but it is more scalable and efficient. i had like 4000 networked entities all moving around at once with 30 real players connected helping me test the game. no lag, everything fine. the physics engine was the bottleneck with all those physics enabled entities.

I made good progress!Want to see it? TOO BAD!
>>548577014That progress? Albert Einstein.
>>548576527Having learned plain out JavaScript first I condensed everything into massive files and now have to optimize by organizing every little bit of code into their own files. Just not looking forward to it right now, exercising dogberg and cutting wood kinda killed my Vyvanse high and I can only code while geeking cause it raises my IQ from 115 to 125.There's not much left but it's just tedious and a little over engineered imo.Everything works so ripping it apart is not something I'm looking forward to.I need to do it so I can get back to gamedev cause my game design document is primed and ready to go and following a few YouTube tutorials for a working prototype will be easy enough. Is Unreal 4 really modular with tons of little files and baubles? I've dabbled with it and it's not bad but I have a feeling I might run into an overwhelming amount of components particularly if I don't approach it the right way and get everything ready beforehand.I plan to learn as I go but webdev took forever cause of simple mistakes that I got from learning how the framework operated. Guess I've just got oldskool brain where data is just a jumbled mess instead of NEET frameworks.
>>548577014
>>548559390>Is this an anons game or an old Star Wars game? It's Star Wars Jedi Academy with the Movie Duels mod.Which is better than anything this thread will ever produce.
>>548577242It sounds like you're in the thick of a classic yet frustrating phase of refactoring and organizing your code after a heavy initial rush, which can definitely feel tedious and overengineered, especially when everything works but isn't tidy. That dogberg exercise and woodcutting probably helped clear your head but now the grind of splitting your monolith into manageable modules is looming, which is always a chore but a necessary one for smoother future development, especially since you're eager to shift back into game dev mode with your design document ready to roll. Regarding Unreal 4, it's quite modular and uses lots of small files, which can be powerful but potentially overwhelming if you don't plan your project structure carefully; approach it with a solid architecture in mind and it’ll be more manageable as you learn as you go. Your experience with web development's slow pace due to simple mistakes is common, especially when frameworks have many nuances, but your old-school mindset of keeping data in a jumbled mess can still be effective, just maybe with some strategic organization, it’ll save you headaches down the line.
>>548577334I did not care for Star Wars.
>>548577415Thanks ChadGPT.I have a blueprint I might feed you later to see if you can give me an example of what it might need to look like when it's modularized for a more complex game.

>>548577242I have taken the VSCode webdev pill. I write everything in C with emscripten, prototype in the browser, and if I am doing a large new feature, I just create a whole new project for the module, then tie it in to the larger project.
>>548578037How do you animate objects like that then?
>>548578194timeline with transforms
>>548578194Literally just split the objects into two and rotate whatever part appropriately.
>>548578141Wish I had finished learning C and C# but I did the MERN stack instead. It's going to be rough learning C++ but at least I've prepared for gamedev with a language that could potentially be useful for netplay and isn't just completely useless for gamedev.
>>548578387>>548578382That won't do, I need each page to perform like paper, so I think I will go with bones
eatMYASS
>>548578637I would just script that in engine still. You only have to do it for one page, then make duplicates of the entity with a staggered start on their animation times. Unless it’s an integral part of your game, I wouldn’t want to waste CPU cycles on animating a book with bones, constraints, etc, when its just one simple animation loop.

>>548603818>if you aren't an artist, forget about making video gamesYes. More people need to hear this. This is a hobby for genius polymath renessance men, not for specialist drones who refuse to even try to anything outside of their chosen field.

How much should I be willing to pay per minute for professional quality music? 100$? I want it to be good. Also, where the fuck do I go to find composers?
>>548604680I saw the trailer for this recently, I can't remember what it's called. Why can't agdg have devs making actual cool stuff instead of faggots reposting shit they saw on twitter?
>>548604680uohhh ToT
>>548604097also it was 20 euros. wtf
>>548603601none of the mechanics in an RPG are necessarythey are just copies of other RPG's that are just copying table top that are just copying LOTRvery little game design is happening here
what type of game you can make is a choice made for you by your circumstances. if you have no money you are forced to make something out of free assets. if you have limited talent, you are forced to work with that.just like medieval people were forced to use the ingredients they had, and the amount of ingredients they had, you are forced into that now too. they couldn't make curry, cause that option wasn't on the table. and for you 99.99999% of game ideas also aren't on the table.that's what vampire survivors and balatro got right. they took scarcity and via alchemist transformation they turned scarcity into wealth.you basically have to be a gamedev mac gyver if you don't have funding and connections.
>>548603818See, your problem is that you're trying to make a real game out of asset packs. A core tenant of the asset flipper is that "if it's not in the pack, it's not in the game".
>>548570050>gaben tells it's a cheat code as it's basically cheating and cheating will get you thrown out from college, meaning people will much more likely fake their effort in making a game and will run into problems later when it's necessary to fix bugs>made with AI means you're using generative work aka proompt jpegs and images and add it to the game as assets>Deadlock uses AI to prototype and throw hundreds designs and then the designs are created with humans, no pure AI generated content is included >generated AI pics are in fact low effort, they can never be a part of the main game just like Black Ops 7 gets negative reviews due to blatant AI generative art in the game>you can use AI to prototype, create designs and use it to create vistas for you, the human, but you need to use it as a form of a direction, or take just interesting parts of the design and create assets yourself, never using it as a shortcut for it to create game-ready assetsTherefore Deadlock is not using AI in the literal sense so they don't have to label it.
>>548603605yeah it is great, maybe those things you mentioned will come in hand, finger pose looks neat not 100% sure what full physics can be used for, i guess some animation with an object like opening a chest?
>>548604152Its frankly indefensible. I don't care if valve doesn't have the label, its their store after all, but shaming devs on twitter for not wanting the label too is beyond the pale lol.>>548605390>Pre-Generated: Any kind of content (art/code/sound/etc) created with the help of AI tools during development. They specifically ask you to disclose if you used AI code. Their matchmaking algorithm, which is live in the game right now, was written by AI.
>>548605205Personally I think items are annoying and take you out of the game. Do gamers really prefer items in their games?
>>548605648>i guess some animation with an object like opening a chest?ye anything in interaction with physics colliders, indie and free only have the ground plane
>>548604680I wish I was this good at art
>>548605860In Elden Troon people seem to love items to cheese. Are items just for faggots?I could make some basic items but fully trooning out on items seems cringe. Anyone can just sit there and think up tranny items.
>>548605657I dont get it. Why aren't AI fags proud to declare their use of AI? If you make a good game what does a reviewbomb matter? Trannies tried to reviewbomb Factorio a while ago and it fell flat in the face of overwhelming community support. Surely with AI it's easier than ever to make an amazing game that people love... Thats what the AI fags keep saying, it's such a massive advantage I keep hearing, a game changer, a complete paradigm shift, anyone not using it will be left behind. But here you are quibbling over having to be transparent about the thing you never shut up about. Of having to openly declare that an amazing and widely loved game owes its existence to AI tools... So what's the problem exactly?
>kids got virus causing stomach ache and vomiting>whole day ruined, had to dance around them and keep them in high spirits>finally went to sleep so I can dev in peace>ASMR in my headphones>Coke in my hand to stop me form getting stomach problemsyep, it's the dev time

wanting to know what people want is a feminine trait, it is pure co-dependency.watching american beauty and fight club as often as you need to in order to hammer that into your feminine brain.
why health bars and not health balls?
>he's getting fucked by the loligods
>>548611086they care more than you'd think actually, it's just they don't have easy ways to voice their opinions other than the review section which gets flooded with le funniest reviews first because valve caters to zoomers and zoomettes

>>548611485It doesn't really matter anymore with modern GPUs and streaming solutions. VRAM used to come at a premium and textures are biggest consumer of VRAM, so by intelligently budgeting, you could extend what was possible on the hardware.
progress
>>548611978>arm inside the cagenegative progress. but if you actually made a real game like this you'd escape the wage cage. hey that's what you'd call it.

So I'm looking for a free book that I found on wikipedia that contains about 120 song sheets sorted by difficulty of playing. It starts with the happy birthday song, teaching only the rhythm at first, and shit like that.
>>548612575lol he feels guilty about not making a game hahaha
>>548611718That's weird that you're saying that because it's almost something I would say.I think being happy is a feminine trait only suitable for women and children and it's a man's duty to only have secret eudaimonia about the hidden things in the universe like mathematics or being a good paternalist figure to your family.I don't want to GMI so I can go be happy that's kind of fucking gay, it sounds like some nepobaby shit, btw being a nepobaby is ultra feminine and anti-masculine, it's basically psychological castration.I want to GMI so I can give more to the people I love but in a stoic and subtle way.Hylics aren't even aware of the philosopher stone, they are so fucking blind they don't realize how they are disgusting animals, filthy flesh machines with no agency controlled by emotions. There are two arguments against buying games that use AI>Its ugly and I don't want to see it>Its immoral and I refuse to support itMore often than not you see the former and not the latter, especially here. They are not logical people. They were the same people parroting the>AI can't do handscope a couple years ago.
>>548616589Arc is proof that the latter is a 0.01% speck of dust that can be safely ignored. As long as your AI-enhanced game is fun, people will buy it

>>548616589What I find weird is how these people always pivot the discussion to AI images, even if the topic isn't about images in particular.>why do you shit on this dev for using ai voices/ai music?>because ai images are ugly and i hate them! That's how it usually goes with them. And I don't understand it.
