Hey /vp/ can we have a Necrozma thread? Not just for art but also to speculate on just what Prism Face is all about
>>
>>33745191

Yo, unrelated but I have to say I love that official artwork.

It's weird however, because it makes it seem nice and totally not evil, but in USUM he's basically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=374xW4zZbZA

prism face is a dead star wanting to be "born" again, and it might do it with unforeseen consequences.... a planet without our sun.
>>
>>33745191
It's some kind of light devouring entity. It'll possibly be the first true antagonistic pokemon in the series, or if not that, something on par with Yveltal in terms of being a violent force of nature that nobody wants around.

Also, how is Nebby holding those flowers with its fingerless cloud appendages?
>>
>>33745600
Yveltal is likely the embodiment of death.

as necrozma's second biggest fag, i'm always down for a necrozma thread.

>>33745191
i think there's something to those flowers. this image features necrozma and flowers, and pic related also features necrozma and flowers.

i wonder if those flowers - or rather the light they give off - is what keeps necrozma peaceful. or at least, fed. maybe the ultra recon guys or whoever they work for took necrozma out of its original habitat and suffered the consequences, kind of like how the ubs wreaked some havoc on alola when they were taken out of their habitats.

>>33745600
personally i'm thinking the latter. i really don't think necrozma is evil. maybe being vicious and eating light is just what necrozma does. kind of like guzzlord - it doesn't seem to eat buildings and mountains to harm people, but simply because that's what guzzlords are like. incompatible with our world. though i get the feeling necrozma is one of a kind. maybe guzzlord too.
>>
Y'know with how Necrozma has been portrayed and advertised, I'm surprised it wasn't Psychic/Dark in the first place
>>
>>33747088
I guess that is the first clue about Necrozma not being 100% what they are making us think it is

i also wonder what the hell is going to happen that will result in us catching necrozma.
i figure, if it's good, then those recon guys are evil (or neutrals whose end goal will cause a lot of damage) and we'll befriend it somehow. maybe we save it or something.

if it's evil, we forcibly capture necrozma - my memory is shit but i don't think a pokemon protag has done this before. it would be interesting storywise, that's for damn sure.

if it's neutral - we befriend it, or maybe we don't capture it at all? that'd be weird. maybe we'd capture one from an alternate dimension or something.

speaking of alternate dimensions, do you guys think ultra megalopolis is - or was - necrozma's original world?

>>33747088
yeah, it's weird. kyurem was a dual type too, with half a different typing than its companions but they still did the fusion thing.

>>33747110
exactly what i was thinking.
>>
>>33745191
I want to know just what its connection to the Cosmog line is. Is it a dead Solgaleo/Lunala? An alternate evo for Cosmoem? A natural predator? Why does it have an entire Ultra Space that resembles itself, but bears no connection to the others? Was it a rogue creation of some ancient Ultra Space peoples made to hunt down Cosmog to bring light to their world?
>>
The yellow flowers are there because this is a hint at some sort of peace between the two. Watch the cinematic trailer and this makes sense. The wispy yellow balls of light on top of the Light Pillar of Megalopolis are actually these flowers. Necrozma steals all of Nebbys light, Ultra Recon recovers all of it, and you rescue them both. Nebby devolves for the post game, and Necrozma is finally calmed down with its light devouring ways.
>>
>>33747214
Cosmog evolves into Necorzma if you get it to level 100 without evolving into Cosmoem.
>>
>>33747214
I have a theory that Cosmog has no ultra space per say, being born from an eclipse. Necrozma on the other hand, is a cosmog born from an eclipse of a dead sun. With no light, it evolved to a husk that requires the light of other worlds to live, and the first world it stole light from was the Ultra Megalopolis.

> my memory is shit but i don't think a pokemon protag has done this before

Technically you forcibly capture Groudon/Kyogre, they aren't evil per se but their nature is so extreme is harmful to the environment, so you have to either defeat them or capture them to make them stop.

and its torso is its actual head. crazy shit. i wonder if there's more to it - or maybe necrozma's just weird as fuck.

as a side note the english notes make me wonder if james turner had a hand in its design. iirc no other model sheet contains english other than turner's

>>33747301
What kind of anatomy is that? That's actually really cool.
>>
>>33749155
I think it's to highlight just how fucked up of an entity Necrozma is.
>>
>>33747301
I actually feel really bad for Necrozma based on all the information we have on it. For one its body is fucked up as hell, just imagine how awful life with that anatomy must be. Then there's the fact that the only way for it to continue living is absorbing light and even that causes it pain. And lastly, even when it is caught or kept safe, it can't tell the difference of what it is attacking. Even in capivity that feeds it with light its still just a ruthless husk attacking everything in sight. Even the new dialogue where Lusamine seems to call it a "monster" makes me feel bad, I think it is just very misunderstood in its actions.

So is Necrozma evil?
>>
>>33753598

>>
>>33747088
This made me remember something:
Initially when someone asked why there wasn't a "light" type some time ago they received the answer that psychic is light type. I thought that answer was smart. But thinking about it now this doesn't add up at all.

Dark type is not (just) a "mean guy" type, it's about actual darkness, too. So, here's the thing that doesn't work out: No matter what, the greatest darkness can be defeated by the smallest of lights.
Necrozma might be a force beyond just light/dark.

Light and Dark are a dichotomy. Without Light darkness cannot exist. So, if Necrozma steals the light (=day -> sun) of a universe it also steals the darkness(=night -> moon). Necrozma might be stealing the light as in, we see that Necrozma takes our light.
What I think Necrozma actually does is stealing the life energy of a universe. The recon squad might have survived by an inch, possibly with the help of Kommo-O's scales that are used to illuminate the city, so they are left to tell us what happened to them. Or at least, what they see what happened to them.
They tell us: "Necrozma stole our light." But what does Necrozma actually do?

Necrozma can kill an entire universe at will.

Necrozma might not only be the most dangerous pokemon, yet -
it might also be the first genuinely malevolent one, bent on destroying universes at will.
>>
>>33750077
>>33751907
Bah, I hope to fuck not. Every antagonistic Pokemon in both the games and anime has always been portrayed as either misunderstood or either under conrol or provoked by the human villain. For once I'd like to see an actively malevolent Pokemon doing something because it can or is predatory by nature, and not just the Pokedex flavor kind for the latter.
Heck, I'd settle for the eldritch reason: Doing what it does can't be questioned because it's beyond our comprehension.
Like>>33754551 said, though I think the Kommo-o scales part is reaching into headcanon tier.

This would also explain Necrozma sucking at those flowers of Nebby:

Plants _need_ the day and night cycle. At night they only do cellular respiration only to survive.
At day, plants do photosynthesis to provied the rest of the ecosystem with air to breath - air, we need to survive.
A plant in itself is a symbol of life. If plants were to die off this planet, all other life would be soon to follow.
Necrozma isn't eating the plants' life. This would also explain their eery glow.

No, it's sucking every bit of energy out of those flowers. It sucks the energy out of the flowers just like it will suck the energy out of everything else.

Well, according to the website, Kommo-O's fights off a certain great evil and it's scales shimmer brightly.
The city surrounding the tower is covered in some reflecting material to increase the spread of the light. It's very possible that these reflectors are Kommo-O scales.

I also hope the theory about Dragon Necrozma gets some more stuff, or just info on the light creature (pic related one of them)
>>
>>33754798
I am not sure if this was official or canon but I remember reading something, that dragon type is another form of energy. Like, a higher plane of energy beyond the basic types. So, this would be very interesting in combination with this >>33754551 if Necrozma had a dragon form.

That can and should change. "muh misunderstood" is so boring, tired, and underwhelming.
>>
>>33754551
>>33754614
Another nail to the coffin of this idea:
Necrozma is based off of a dead star.
A star, that doesn't have any light anymore. A dead star however has also reached it's most stable form where it doesn't poduce _ a n y _ form of energy anymore.
Along with "necro" in it's name I am sure that it stealing light is only what we are left to know. Because when it gets to complete it's plan we are dead and don't know that it doesn't "just" steal light but kill everything in a universe.

That was just /vp/ talking about the way GF treats "dragon" as something other than the body form or characteristics of a dragon. If it was that simple Charizard and Gyarados would be dragons and Mega Ampharos wouldn't.

It's kind of similar to how when "Grass" moves aren't just physical contact with a plant. When a grass type uses Body Slam, it's hitting you with a plant, but that's normal type. When it uses Power Whip, it's grass type. There's no substantive difference between these on a physical level, so the difference comes down to some kind of "energy," which gets talked about and thrown around just like magic in the series.
