The rationale behind this is the fact that since A-Mankey and A-Primeape are shown to be mimicking human society through operating a shop, it would imply that they can learn to be pokemon trainers

The idea has been recently suggested within the games themselves, with Oranguru, but people have been questioning it for longer with Alakazam.

Using a pokemon's sprite as a trainer's sprite would also not take up additional space, and it would add a neat element to the game. The Pokemon as trainers could either be spread throughout the region or even concentrated into one area as a reference to the famous book "Animal Farm", an allegorical retelling of the Soviet Union's history, in which animals begin taking on human traits

A Slavic region would also be ideal to introduce this,as much research was made on animal behavior, with the likes of Pavlov.

More precisely, a Pokémon Crystal romhack.

Even though it doesn't look like much, there's been a lot going on behind the scenes to prepare things.
We've decided on the entire list of moves, and we've yet to decide on the specific movesets for axyllian formes, which Blue Guy on discord is doing.
Meanwhile I've been working on misc things. Right now I'm stuck updating move effects and implementing new ones, which I've delayed for a bit for fixing some things that will help us later on.

There's a lot of missing stuff on the wiki, which we'd be very happy to get help with. Things like the lore of axyllian formes should be written on the wiki, and we've yet to decide on the lore for the pit, abandoned camp, smogon pond, the graveyard south of Mt. Heerbaun, the lighthouse and why Oerm sunk in the past.

Our mapper has pretty much died, and there's a lot that will have to be scripted, written and mapped. Any help would be very much appreciated.
And of course, as usual, I'd take literally anyone to help with coding.

>>34675919
Kind of. It started with posters placing tiles on a minimap, forming a gen1 region. Later, the pokedex was decided upon through dubs, and some lore was decided upon.
Now we've reached the boring stages of development, where we're trying to polish the things we're starting with, and starting to implement them.

Fucking Nido line takes up so much space.

And there's so little ice types in a region that's supposed to be full of them. The Nido lines should be replaced by three ice lines
>>
>>34682665
The entire point of the game is that the region is not as cold as the past.
>>
>>34682665
Which Ice lines? We 've pretty much used them all up without going to legendaries, Gen 5+, and alternate forms
>>
>>34682821
>>
What you think, will be main appeal of this hack?

Why did you go with Crystal?
>>
Seems like a good place to ask this; why are there so few hacks of gen 5?
>>
>>34683214
Newer generations are hard to hack.

There aren't as many good tool, because making them is more difficult.
>>
>>34683208
The story.

We went with Crystal because a disassembly is more stabile, there are few Gen 2 rom hacks and we fucking love Gen 2 aesthetics.
>>
>>34683142
That's just a +1, though, and we have an overabundance of Water-Types.
>>
>>34680949
How about totems?
>>
>>34683338
As in Sun/Moon totems? I'm 99% sure that would be impossible in Gen 2's engine.
>>
>>34683338
>>34683445
While implementing double battles is way beyond my ability, having an encounter with a "buffed" wild 'mon (and some special AI) isn't. It's a long shot from actual totem battles, and I'm unsure whether they'd be even remotely as fun.
>>
>>34683445
Totems are implemented in Gen 7 by using a different pokemon slot for the totem, which technically makes them separate pokemon. You could do the same in Gen 2, but we're using up every slot, so it's impossible without scrapping other pokemon.

And besides, if you really want to do totems, you would want a capability for every pokemon in the game to have a totem version. If we had 16 bit index numbers, this would be piss as we could use one of the high order bits as a totem-bit. But we don't.
>>
>>34683635
>Totems are implemented in Gen 7 by using a different pokemon slot for the totem, which technically makes them separate pokemon.
To my knowledge they're just implemented using a separate forme ID, only due to the size difference in their models. This isn't even necessary in gen2. Implementing the "aura" thing could be scrapped, too, to just report it as "A mysterious aura surrounds the enemy #!". The stat boosts could be thrown into the calculation with some slight care.

The biggest (and only real) problem with implementing totems in gen2 is the SOS mechanics.
>>
>>34683635
Wishiwashi wasn't using a a different slot. They even had it start as the School form.

so how often do these threads get put up?
can we expect a demo anytime soon?

>>
>>34692664
We used to make these threads on a weekly basis, but that has proven to be way too short for us to get anything done. Now we've decided to make them roughly monthly, always on friday evenings and lasting the entire weekend (unless some people are intent on keeping it bumped with no discussion).
I hope to be able to have anything playable in a few months.
