TL:DR
>Complete all Trainer Challenges to get free packs (use Cheat Engine's speedhack to speed up AI games).
>Play through using Basic decks to unlock them for versus play.
>Farm Versus Mode theme ladder for Tokens and Tournament Tickets.
>Enter tournaments to get TRADABLE chests and packs.
>DON'T OPEN THEM.
>Trade them for the cards you actually want for a deck you want to build directly, or flip your way up to them.
>Public trade is like the GTS, if you want proper results, put up your own offers.

What themedeck should I buy?
>Buy the Empoleon or Garchomp ones.

What's a pika pack?
>The 55 token avatar cosmetic boxes in the shop. For some reason, they have buying power just short of an uncommon chest.

>and have consistent 1hko against your entire team
Only if you play scrubs who fill their bench.

For a Garchomp to get 1hko'd by Empoleon, they have to help the Empoleon player out. As the Garchomp player, Empoleon can only score a 1hko on you if you let it.
>>
>>34873116
If you are talking about theme, Kommo-O is still the best one imo, and you don't have to deal that much with mirror matches anymore.
Kommo-O+Kukui/Emolga kills Garchomp.
ARaichu+Kukui/Emolga kills Garchomp.
Based slime kills Gumshoos.
>>
>>34872750
glaceon isn't as effective at controlling zoroark as you think it is.
>>
>>34873266
The Kommo-o deck is a lot better than it gets credit for. Gastrodon can set up quickly and start clocking 120 a turn.
>>
>>34873464
If there's a Pokemon card from the theme decks that i like more than Gastrodon, it's the Slowbro from the Solgaleo deck.
Amnesia has helped me a great deal with starting to play in the standard ladder.

buzz garb is a legitimately good deck and i'm surprised it didn't see more play and get further in oceania. Only one list made top 8.

you know what other card I'm surprised sees no play these days? Raticate EVO. There are a ton of popular decks running 4 strong 2 DCE or 4 strong 4 DCE. 3 special energy in discard and a choice band is 210 dammy, perfect for closing games against zoroark, and rattata has a decent though somewhat superfluous ability.

I guess it kind of sucks against jet punch, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some memer try to pull it out at some point before it rotates.
>>
>>34875046
Drampa fills the Raticate slot on people feeling spicy and just a little salty about DCEs.

hahah holy shit this gave me an idea

zoro/garb. Nobody would see it coming. Run 4 klefki and 3 stretchers to make sure you have enough tools for the entire game. Only issue if is they're smart they'll guzma it into active and force you to attach a float stone to retreat.
>>
>>34875184
disregard the first half of that post i didnt even read the first line lmao
>>
>>34875184
Wouldn't this work with Bursting Balloon too
>>
>>34875202
yeah but you can't search balloons with an ultra ball (or brigette if you have a bench space), or recycle them with rescue stretchers. So that's 4 turns of lock at most while with klefki you could reasonably stretch it out to last for an entire game.

The only major issue is you would be unable to hit 120 damage beatings because you need a bench space open for klefki. But it's not a big deal against most decks since you're going for 2HKO whether you hit 100 or 120 anyways, just need to make sure that you have a band on for one of your attacks against 210-230hp pokes.

>>
>>34875635

Zoroark/Garde, Zoro/Lycan and Buzzwole all have perfectly fine ways of dealing with it though.

They're also really good, especially Garchomp. Any of the last 4 decks are good, honestly.

In a vacuum:
1.) Garchomp
2.) Hydreigon
3.) Kommo-o
4.) Empoleon

But Hydreigon isn't played because of too many weaknesses to Fighting, which Garchomp and Kommo-o threaten.
>>
>>34876100
both of them are really good decks that give you cards that easily build into good standard decks.

Lukechomp and Empoleon aren't really top tier, but both of them are completely viable even in the face of Zoroark spam.

Garchomp doesn't get really good until next set, but Empoleon using counter energy and Sudowoodo has an advantage against most 90iq Zoroark players on ladder imo.

The most important thing is that you won't have to constantly play Cynthia since the second attack will OHKO Zoroark with either strong energy, choice band or regirock in play.

The key problem with chomp right now is you can't guzma while keeping up damage, cynthia's not a bad supporter to be locked into, but zoroark has a really fucking hard time playing against a chomp deck with Lucario out when Lucario is a free ticket to play literally any card you want. Doesn't matter how much faster you are when every turn chomp can guzma turn after turn and wipe out your Zoroarks and not face an OHKO in return.

It can handle itself if you don't mind very long drawn out games. But you will lose to a timer every time since you are never ahead in prizes.
And like every other quad-anything deck, it folds like a paper fan to anything even remotely near an even match-up. When your opponent has no answer they will be in hell. But if your opponent has even considered a way to beat you - anything with energy retrieval in this case, which is quite a lot of decks - you will shit the bed against the most mediocre opponents.

>>34877861
We still don't have turbo strike solgaleo despite it being revealed before DM Necro. So that's one metal deck we just don't have the cards for yet internationally, people thought it would be in SM5 but it wasn't. Oldgaleo is still a better deck than people give it credit for, it's just not consistent enough to bring to an event until we get the second Solg-GX.

Silvalley doesn't benefit from any of the new direct metal support, in fact it conflicts with both magnezone and mt coronet, but benefits from Magearna quite heavily. Dialga's also really good with energy acceleration though I think that Manegizone does it better.

Gold Rush is much better suited for expanded than standard and most people realized that from the outset. It MIGHT have a good list in standard, but none of my testing has been satisfactory, I think Manegizone is simply better in standard. But Gold Rush is probably the one new archetype that has a chance of breaking into the world of big boy decks in expanded.

So end of the day, we get a new t1 standard metal deck (people still don't recognize how stupidly good dialga is for that deck) and a new t1/2 expanded metal deck.

>>34877977
Solgaleo has consistency issues but is hard to beat if it fires on all cylinders. Like the last guy said, target their accelerators down and try to suppress basics on the bench.

>>
>>34879917
It lets you search for any supporter card. Most games start with benching Lele to search for Brigette, which lets you put 3 basics on your bench, which is important for the strategy for this deck. If your opponent has a large hand and has taken most of their prizes you can search for an N and disrupt their hand, or search for a Guzma to target the last KO on their bench. Its also a decent attacker in the right circumstances. All of these are what makes it so good, its incredibly versatile
>>
>>34879946
I see. I can't really read the card but I'm under the impression it's attack costs are all colorless, right? I just spent a fuck ton of cash on merchandise so I think I'll have to hold on before I even consider buying two of them

Yeah, apart from the GX attack which is for 1 psychic energy. You can still build the deck without Leles, its just you won't be able to pull of the plays I mentioned when you want to. it's a shame it's not braixen that got the ability since infernape makes it really good, but ofc a double stage 2 deck is dogshit

I feel kinda bad when I can see them struggling for certain cards, too. Like when you KNOW they can screw you over if they have another energy, but they don't play any.
>>

i know that theme is designed to be a little kid format but why can't they at least cut the energy counts down to something reasonable?

Like theme teaches new players all of the worst possible deck building habits.

Could you guys point me to some decent deck building guide? I've only recently learnt of TCGO and wasn't so hyped for Pokemon since 20 fucking years ago
>>
>>34880990
Also shit did the game change since Gen 1 decks. It keeps surprising me how strong are basic pokemons, how many support cards fuck with the deck and discard pile, and how not even bench is safe anymore. I remember I used to pop a boner over Golem's attack which also hurt opponent's bench.
>>

Check OP
>>
>>34881008
>it's the first thing
Fuck, I'm not used to structure, thanks for not calling me retarded.
>>
>>34880990
OP has information on this. In general, in this game you build around the pokemon, not the type. Theme decks include tons of random pokemon of the same type as the 'star' of the deck, this is not good. Theme decks are like 30/10/20 pokemon/trainers/energy while the typical player's deck is something like 20/30/10 these days.

Get a playset of Ultra Ball, Sycamore, N, Cynthia, Choice Band, Float Stone, Field Blower, and Rescue Stretcher. Every standard deck uses some combination of these cards. 2 Tapu Lele-GX are also basically mandatory, but expensive. Fortunately they're the only really expensive staples.
>>
>>34880811
You won that match though
>>
>>34881062

>>
>>34880393
Still, an EX. With another typing and different costs. It's not a fair comparison.

Anon asked if a card was viable. Anon #2 showed him a better card which was never viable. Now you're moving goalposts while affirming anon #2's point.
>>
>>34879626
The problem is, its best partner is Infernape UPR, another stage 2. Even then, it's a lot of trouble to get 60 damage using abilities.

There is not much else you can do with burn and its attack is not that great either.

cynthia, and cut the other cynthia into a colress, why in g-d's name are you not running colress in an expanded volc deck. your deck will almost never not be playing with a full bench and all of the other good expanded decks also bench down as fast as possible

Opening 2 booster boxes and an elite train ER box now. As a new player, what should I be looking for?
One box is crimson rising and the others are ultra prism
>>
>>34882574
Buzzwole GX is the main card of the set to get for Crimson Invasion. It's a pretty shit set, maybe Silvally GX, but that's a hard stretch.

For Ultra Prism the main GXs to get are Leafeon GX, Glaceon GX, and Dusk Mane Necrozma GX. Empoleon, Garchomp, Lucario, Magnezone, Cynthia, and maybe Mt. Coronet are good cards to also get.
>>
>>34881932
I don't think the deck is trying to magically turn off Garbotoxin for trade every single turn, it just gets set up a bunch and turns on garbotoxin
>>
>>34882627
CRI is shit compared to GUR/BUS/SHL/UP but it's way better than like 80% of the XY block sets were.

SM base is the only SM set that is actually bad, and it was great when it first came out. Would still be a good expanded centric set if not for the FOGP ban.

>>
>>34882823
Not yet, there's an Oranguru that lets you pull 3 cards to the bottom of your deck but the effect is attack based, so the opponent gets a chance to shuffle you before you can use a looker.

Maybe after next rotation when N isn't around anymore.
>>
>>34882835
Is that deck even legit? Seems like there are too many moving pieces.
>>
>>34882855
I'd try it, but I'm missing cards to give it a go
>>
>>34881263
You are just assuming it's a better card. I was just pointing out that you prove nothing by comparing apples to oranges.
>>
>>34882853
N isn't the issue. It's Guzma + Puzzles. They can just Guzma and knock something out and with puzzles then can recycle guzma
>>
>>34882915
he doesn't even need to compare apples to oranges to tell you that this new delphox is shit. It's a bad card from all perspectives. It's worse than Decidueye as a recurring ability based damage dealer because it's locked to the active and only one can deal damage on any given turn. It's worse as a burn setter than Salazzle because Salazzle also sets poison and is only a stage 1, it's much better to run devolution sprays and salazzles than it is to run a full stage 2 line with rare candies, which you simply need to keep up.

The attack is irrelevant because there is no blacksmith in standard, you simply can't afford to have a 3 attachment attack without acceleration. Turbo Turtles has a better, more flexible ability based damage dealer in the form of Volcanion that takes far less deck space.

The only partner it has that makes it worth playing is Infernape ULP, which is also a stage 2, and you can't have a dual stage 2 deck without some broken shit like FOGP. The only quasi functional one I can think of is Kingdra/Greninja, and it's not great either.

>>
>>34882979
>The only partner it has that makes it worth playing is Infernape ULP, which is also a stage 2
Yes, I myself said that anon. I agree it's not a great card. But there is a big difference between reaching this conclusion by considering its real uses and comparing it to an unrelated card just because it has a 150 written on it.
>>
>>34883080
rule of thumb is you don't open boosters unless you're a whale. Online boosters are truly random unlike boxes which have some degree of guaranteed pulls.

Don't trade for high value chase cards right after the set drops unless you've got a ton of value to burn. It's better to get value cards from old sets, or speculate in lower rarity cards since people are mass opening ULP packs right now to chase down FAs.

it's kind of hard to fit in that many cards, because you are not going to want to item lock with luxio, it has too little HP. Even without item acceleration most decks will have no problems OHKOing it, which means you need to stream a bunch of them which means you need bench space.

Either that, or you need Luxray/Celebi to give them more bulk. Even if you can fit it all into a list, item lock is much weaker in standard than it was during the peak of toadcancer because while item counts are creeping up again, decks are still less dependent on items than they were in the Evolutions/SM1 era.

I think that a lot of this depends on the kind of attack Greninja gets. I get a feeling that it will be a deck on its own.

I'll never understand why this card wasn't printed as Cresselia Prism.
>Type, attack, hp, ability could be the same
>Cunterpart to Darkrai
>Giratina prism could have used a card with its gimmick that nerf one of the sets abilities, like "Players can't use GX attacks" or "Players can't play Prism cards" following the theme of the EX and promo versions.
>>
>>34887145
because pcl doesn't like cresselia for some reason. How many good cards has it gotten, like, ever? Compare to how Darkrai has multiple above average cards constantly. Even the baby darkrais we've gotten are 'good' cards, just not good fits for the meta as it stands.

Speaking of event legality, anyone else kind of hoping that they take the opportunity with the 2018 rotation to permanently synchronize us with Japan's legality scheme? It seems really stupid to me that Japan and the rest of the world are still on two separate sets of rules for standard. Set by set legality is a major issue because Japanese sets are organized differently, but just setting it to be the entire SM block would be easy to do and it would be easier to explain to new players than the arbitrary way they do cutoffs in standard atm.

Coronet and Zoroark though. It's not hard to recover from.

I'd run octillery over zoroark personally
>>
>>34887811
Coronet gets hit by Delinquent, I've got a 1x stadium, and I'm on buzz baby
>>
>>34887798
Optimal glaceon decks would not run leles to be guzma'd but i get where he's going.
Speaking of what about quad spiritomb? Lock your opponent to a lele or some shitmon.
>>
>>34887836
escape rope, switch, and guzma are all relevant
>>
>>34887838
Guzma requires your opponent to have a benched pokemon
>>
>>34887836
Well, seeing as Spiritomb only has a measly 60 HP and Lele can still attack, I'd say it's a shit idea. Too easy to just put energies on something and knock it out. Without Sylveon for Magical Ribbon you can't guarantee all the energy denial and disruptiuon required to stall out your opponent long enough for victory either.

he's a fucking leaf.
>>
>>34887989
That answer doesn't explain shit
>>
>>34888005
Only people from canada can use gems

therefore burn the leaf
>>
>>34888005
Canadians are special and get special currency to buy shit from the store with. "He's a fucking leaf" explains it perfectly.
>>
>>34887730
nah, buzz/garb will wreck these lists, the list can't do shit without Magnezone's ability active.

Glaceon and Manegizone are two of the most overrated lists out there atm honestly. Manegizone is a honeypot list that will just kill all of the garde players off so my buzz/garb bros win the event.
>>
>>34888019
Do you play buzz garb with Elixirs and Garbotoxin only or with rainbow , trashalanche and multi switch
>>
>>34887986
40 damage
>>
>>34888057
trashalanche is what I run online, but I'd run elixirs going into St. Louis. All of the top threats are darkness/metal. trashalanche is good against opposing buzz decks, but honestly watch and learn sudowoodo can do much the same thing, if they get enough for a knuckle impact or absorption you can just return a KO on them. Plus it has a lot of utility against DM and Zoroark.

Make sure you run that card in your lists, it's fucking good.
>>
>>34888094
My biggest fear running BuzzGarb post-Oceana is a resurgence of Espeon. You just can't beat it unless you run like multiple Zygardes and mewtwo and even then it's a hard matchup.

Zoroark/garb might be more than a meme and complete a triangle of trash archetypes
>>
>>34888018
If you had said "He's a fucking MAPLE leaf" it would have made sense

You do know trees exist outside of Canada right?
>>
>>34888242
"A fucking leaf" refers to their flag.

spent $80 on a zoroak box and a prism elite box. All I got was the the Zoroak promo, mewtwo gx and leafeon gx. was it worth it?
>>

obviously not pal
>>

ETBs are garbage buddy never buy them, I buy empty ETBs on ebay for like 50 cents a pop for a standardized size bulk storage containers, but the packs have loose pack pull rates.
>>
How many Skylas and VS Seekers do you recommend in a deck?
>>
>>34889401
1 skyla if you have a deck that relies on a stadium, 4 vs seeker always
>>
>>34889431
Thanks, how many Skylas if a deck relies on Ultra Balls and Rare Candies?
>>
>>34889452
Skyla is always just one since you can bring it back with seeker.
>>
>>34889452
Still one. VS Seeker lets you reuse if you need to, and Skyla is more situational than a draw supporter so it's going to be a dead, or at least suboptimal, card more often than not.
>>
>>34889493
>>34889523
Thanks. Ok how about Rare Candies? Take note that I didn't put any stage 1 evolution in the deck.
>>
>>34889582
If the stage 2 is your main attacker, you should absolutely include stage 1s, on top of four Rare Candies. Otherwise, three or four, depending on how quickly you want it out.
>>
Anyone want to trade 3 VS Seekers and 2 Rare Candies for packs?
