ITT: Stuff you could swear happened, but can't prove.

I'm pretty certain I caught an Electabuzz in Pokemon Yellow on my first playthrough. It was in the very last room as a random encounter.

Electabuzz was only in Red, and I can't find any references about glitches in Yellow in the Power Plant to support this.

I'm almost 100% sure it happened though.
>>
>>36274476
I'm 100% sure I caught a black Tentacool in Ruby.
I still remember showing it to everyone, but all of my Pokémon from Ruby where erased with my save file in Diamond and I don't even remember the black Tentacool ever being transferred to it.
>>
>>36274476
When playing Sapphire as a kid I swear to god a Poochyena or Mightyena had Rough Skin, which for years lead me to think it had that as its ability.

Maybe something to do with the Pomeg Glitch?
>>
>>36274476
I played Red in a game boy color, by turning off and on the console several times the color of the game would change, sometimes was blue and sometimes green and orange.

If this was a feature or a glitch , i dunno, but it was cool
>>
>>36274476

i swear on my goddamn life that I somehow had the second battle with your rival (G/S/C) in cherrygrove instead of azalea. i remember reasoning to my child self that he comes and finds you if you take too long to get to the next town. can find no record of this happening to anyone else and i have played gold around 15 times to no avail.
>>
>>36274533
That’s normal, you could change the palette in the game boy title screen
>>
>>36274476
I’m 100% sure this kid in our school had Pikablu - a blue Pikachu. I saw it on their Game Boy Color. No, it wasn’t Marill. It was a regular Pikachu except blue.

1. I got Pokerus from the Sudowoodo in HG/SS (I forgot which one)

2. I experience a weird glitch in Pokemon Explorers of Darkness where I was in an ice dungeon, and there were two wild Pokemon in a corridor (Mamoswine and I believe Prinplup) and the two Pokemon had their colors swapped. It was the weirdest thing and I could find no references to such a glitch, though if people are aware please tell me. They weren't any different, just their color pallettes were swapped with each other. I remember getting a camera to take a picture because it was such an odd happening but I don't have any idea what camera I used or if it even survived.
>>
>>36274476
I distinctly remember hatching a single Ferroseed in gen 5 that knew Thunder Wave. The father didn't know the move and neither did any of the other Ferroseed I bred from the same parents.
>>
>>36274795
if i recall the only move with cards in the animation in gen 4 was trump card. and unown cannot learn that
>>
>>36274731
>>36274774
Maybe your pokémon had seals on its poké ball.
>>
>>36274842
Perhaps the father learned it by level up and forgot it again, later.
>>
>>36274476
A friend of mine showed me a Pokemon that he encountered in the Cave of Origin in Sootopolis City as a kid.
It looked a lot like Wobbuffet but it was lying down and I think I didn't really have a visible face.
I'm pretty sure I'm just mixing up a lot of things but I still remember that so clearly.
>>
>>36274885
I am sure, yo saw a Mawile.
>>
I remember that my Farfetch'd in Pokémon Red evolved to Doduo. Weird.
>>
>>36274857
Just looked up the animation for trump card, it's close but not quite. The cards were around the Unown as it attacked me. Trump card has the cards fly around the pokemon being attacked.
>>
>>36274875
The Unown had this animation play for an attack before it was caught, and I never used seals.
>>
I was pretty sure that Aerodactyl cold learn Rock Slide in Gen 1, but it could not prior to Gen 4.
>>
>>36274910
Or is it part of the catch animation?
>>
>>36274934
It was a damaging move, that much I'm certain of. I also caught it with just one ball, so it wasn't the unown just breaking free from being caught.

I once encountered a Koffing while surfing in Celadon City, but nobody believed me ...
>>
I swear to god I found a Ditto while surfing to Cinnabar Island for the first time. I remember thinking "Oh, it must have transformed into a water type. Neat". I later assumed that I had accidentally stumbled upon the Cinnabar Coast glitch without realizing, but there's nothing in that general location that would make a Ditto spawn there.

>>

The transparent spheres which look similar to cards belong to Hidden Power's animation. See https://www.pokewiki.de/Datei:Kraftreserve_DP.png

Lance also has a Dragonite at level 47.
He just doesn't give a shit about the rules.
>>

If you leave the Pokémon Housebon Cinnabar, the old encounter table is still loaded, so you actually can encounter Ditto on the Cinnabar island border

>pokewiki uses .apng files

That's pretty cool.
I wish hiro would enable them on here as well.
>>
>>36275016
Yes, that would be great, because WEBM is lossy and GIF has only 255 colors and no alpha channel (only one transparent color) per palette.
>>
>>36275031

>>
>>36274476
When I was little I had dreams about playing Pokemon Yellow all the time and it was really hard for me to differentiate between dream and reality at the time.

One nightmare was that Pikachu could die in game, for real, to disease randomly caught and I still vividly remember the last time I talked to Pikachu and the really twisted pained expression it gave in response. Pokemon center confirmed Pikachu had passed and I panicked and shut off the game before it could save.

But that was silly enough that when I got older I understood that never happened, but the one that tripped me up most is that I beat Brock with a metapod, just kept hardening and feeding it potions. What happened was instead of the Onix running out of moves, struggling, and eventually killing itself, Brock just.. forfeit? He acknowledged the battle as a tie and gave the badge anyway as reward for resilience.
>>
>>36275117
I think there must have been some knockoff merch out there like this because I have it too, to the extent that if I am asked to draw a pikachu doing the tail like that is automatic. Mandela affect innit.

Part of the nostalgia draw for me is that back then these things weren't definitively provable, urban legends and myths got a real weight to them.

In emerald I once found a Celebi in the route to the left of Lilycove city. I know it is impossible without cheats, but I don't remember imputin any or even having a reason to want Celebi, since I don't even like it's design... That said, It might just be issues with emulation and roms
>>
My cousins copy of ruby or sapphire had a glitch where he had random encounters of celebi in the grass outside of meteor falls. He had multiple encounters and caught a bunch and he traded some to my brother and I. To this day I've not found an explanation to this glitch or seen anything similar. There was definitely no cheat device involved. I watched in real time when the first one randomly popped up and he caught 5 or 6 in a row, then went to his PC to look at them, then when he went back to the same patch of grass he couldn't find anymore.
>>
Some years ago i was fucking with both Pokemon Yellow and Crystal to see what kind of colors I'd get on Pokemon Stadium one and two. Its gotta have some merit to it just based on the scope of how many people claim similar situations. Based on the 2 of us in this thread plus that random forum link from 10 years ago. I'm 100% sure I caught a Gengar in Platinum on the Old Chateau, on the same room where Rotom is but it appeared from the painting instead. I believe it was late at night and then I ended up passing out, but I had a Gengar in my party after waking up.

In gen two games if you used a GameShark and put in encounter codes for more than one Pokemon, each Pokemon would have the color palette of the other. I used to trade odd colored Pokemon at school to people.

A few years later he had his sweet revenge (sort of). I didn't have any sort of guide for 2nd gen and didn't know what moves Pokemon would learn. In order to check different species without grinding for hours I'd dump my 50+ Rare Candes to see if anything interesting comes up and quit without saving. I were helping that cousing with his homework while he was playing for me and using the candies on a Clefairy, but he spaced out and saved the game after wasting all of them.

And a kid from Belarus I hardly knew overwrote my save file in Yellow with completed Pokedex.

I went on the S.S. Anne a second time after beating Pokémon Blue. I was about 220 hours in. All of the trainers had refreshed, including Blue, but there wasn't a second Cut HM with the captain at the end of the boat.

It wasn't like I bugged into the boat. I got into the habit of checking if the S.S. Anne was back everyday, and one day it was. If it really did happen, I'd assume that stray beta particles or an overflow in the memory had reset the entire S.S. Anne squence.
>>

You’re probably confusing two separate times you played the game. One game, the SS Anne left and never came back. The other game, you lost after obtaining Cut so it didn’t leave, then you went back later and it was still there.

a friendly anon directed me to this thread

so basically this

>trade mewtwo from yellow to crystal as a kid
>later moving pokemon in the pc
>mewtwos hp looks different, autism senses tingling
>write his hp down on a post it, stick it to gbc
>every morning before school, check mewtwo
>his hp increases by 1 per day

that never did stop. no idea what was happening

also

>fishing south of blackthorn on crystal around the same time period
>find dratini
>nani?
>catch a few of them
>catch a few from dragons den
>compare
>south of blackthorn dratini have overall higher stats

i dont know why these two things happened. i never ever see either of them mentioned in videos or guides or pokemon lost content stuff or anything so could have been a bug both times no idea

This thread reminded me of one particular Emerald playthrough of mine where the windows in Pokémon Trainers' School where fucked (looked like pic related). I tried googling if anyone knew about this back then but couldn't find anything, so I always thought my save file glitched or something.
But it seems like this mystery has finally been solved by now! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqdssikLGBk
I checked the school often after noticing these "curtains" because part of me wasn't sure how I never noticed something so out of place but another part knew this bullshit shouldn't happen and wanted to observe. Even after starting a new game I kept going there whenever I remembered to check if they're back (they never where). So I'm glad to finally have some closure about this, especially since I never took a picture or anything to prove the "curtain's" existence.

Some less interesting ones:
- When I was very young I watched my cousin play probably Red or Blue, but her opponent's sprite looked like a scared Cyndaquil with it's flame out. Probably my then kid brain mixing up stuff, though.
- The Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town completely resetted itself after finishing it in Green. Every NPC needed to be fought again, including the rival and Marowak's ghost. None of my team members' level dropped, so I did save after the first time.
Kind of amusing considering it's the Pokémon Tower, but Green is even buggier that Red and Blue so nothing too out of the ordinary, I guess.
- I almost lost my Emerald save file after my GBA's battery died during saving. After booting the game up again my save appeared to be lost, but turning the system off and on while taking out and inserting the cartridge brought it back.

I'll never forget it because it still chills me to the bone. When I first played Diamond I stumbled upon the Old Chateau. I'm sure most of you are familiar with the girl in the bedroom. Well I'd talk to her and she'd basically give diary entries on her life and say to come back tomorrow to tell me more. I had assumed it was a clock timed event. I remember clearly on the 5th day I talked to her her dialogue read "She is gone." I than heard the sound of leaving a room and her entire character vanished. I came back every day tocheck if she was there and she wasn't. I checked all my friends games and asked them. None of them had ever heard of such a thing. As a child this terrified me.

I was fucking around on Silver when it was still current, and I had just managed to memorize the Cloning Glitch.
Now, my 9 year old ass thought Entei was the coolest looking fucking thing ever, and at the time it was, fucking fite me bitch, he even got a movie.
So I was filling up my entire fucking party with Entei clones, dumping them in the PC and making more.
At some point the glitch glitched and what came out wasn't an Entei, instead it was the Trainer sprite. I don't remember if I threw it into battle, but I do remember that it didn't have any moves, and when I put it in the daycare it would spin clockwise.

Yeah I remember the right too. I have played Pokemon since I was two (starting with Yellow) and I felt so weird when I saw a picture of the left then I realised somehow every single reference or picture to Pikachu was replaced by the left and the right's black tail was never seen again.

Not claiming this is some "DURRR MANDELA SPACE-TIME TRANSPORTATION CONSCIOUSNESS SHIFTING" conspiracy theory bullshit. Just that it's fucking weird. I imagine I somehow was influenced by Pichu (Despite having never seen a Gen 2 Pokemon before)

Oh shit, here's the first one in the thread I misremembered.

Another thing I remember vividly was encountering a shiny Buneary in Gen 4 during the part of the game where you have to escort that green haired Chansey chick, causing wild double battles to happen. I remember being so pissed because it kept telling you it was impossible to aim with two wild Pokemon in battle, even when I'd KOed the other non-shiny thing. Some Anon here told me it should've worked if I'd fainted the other wild Pokemon, and I later tested again and sure enough it works, but I guess I just misremembered.

when I was a kid I experimented around with bad clones in crystal (sometimes when you clone via pc in crystal, itd produce a glitchy mess).
one time I cloned a togetic and got a bad clone. the box it was in became a cesspit of glitchy pokemon. mostly when looking at them itd crash my game.
the togetic was in a constant state of faint and using a poke center would crash the game. when I used a revive it became a level 0 aerodactyl. after winning a battle it levelled all the way to 100 and it had infinite hp (when it was attacked, the bar would keep going down forever)
I decided to put it in the day care to see what would happen. its sprite in there became the male player sprite. when I reset, my characters sprite was female. this pissed me off so I tried to get it out of the daycare at which point my sprite became the male again, only with kris' palette. so I became a blue boi which is great.

I distinctly remember playing Sapphire for the first time, and resetting the game over and over after the first rival battle because I kept picking Treecko but not liking him that much and wanting to pick another, but I’d pick Treecko anyway. Eventually I switched to Mudkip and saw how the rival pokemon changed in response as well. However I distinctly remember doing this (choosing Mudkip, then resetting after the rival) tens of tens of times and eventually the rival had Torchic instead of Treecko as the rival to Mudkip. I showed my parents and explained how weird it was to them. Then I reset my game again (worried it was a glitch) and the rival had Treecko again instead of Torchic.

Tldr; don’t know how or why, but once the rival had the weak pokemon instead of the strong one in Sapphire.
