Retroid Pocket Pussy 5, better than sex
>>
I want a retroid pocket 5 but I already have an RP2...........
>>
>>12216289
the rp6 is coming out soon if you can hold out for reviews. i'm sure the rp5 will get a price cut too if the rp6 turns out to be shit. what are you looking to play that the rp2 cant?
>>
>>12216289
upgrade to 5 is worth it imo, way better power (can easily handle everything up to 6th gen (+ wii games if you go through the hassle of setting it up) and some switch games. Also some pretty solid peripherals. All of this also applies to waiting for 6 and seeing how it is though

I just got a Retroid Pocket 5 and I gotta say, when I was afraid that setting it up properly would be a pain in the ass, I was right. My RG353P was pretty painless unless I wanted to push it with N64 or Dreamcast, just install JELOS (which was another ordeal at the time but that's a story for later I guess) but the RP5, zowie mama, that took some doing.
Thankfully everything seems to go pretty smooth, using ReDream, M64 frankerZ or whatever it was, NetherSX2 and Dolphin Majestic12 (I don't know what it stands for). It's working great save for a stutter here and there, plus the Paper Mario menu taking a second to open. Biggest shame is some games just refusing to work. I was really excited to play Colin McRae 2005 on the go.

which frontend did you go with? I redid mine with es-de recently; was a massive pain in the ass but worth it
>>
>last anbernic was a dud
Okay but what's next?
>>
>>12216319
have you tried rocknix on it? i've always shied away from more higher-end handhelds since they only support android for the most part.
>>
>>12216329
what did you struggle with? i just set it up on pc and android and it was pretty straightforward using a guide
>>
>>12216298
>>12216307
Honestly haven't tried PS2/GC on my rp2s yet, I just really like the vita style rp5 has
>>
>>12216341
I was doing it from a setup I already did trying to use daijisho so I had to wrangle everything into the proper folders for es and change some emulators, I assume it's a lot easier if you're going from scratch
>>
>>12216347
the design is definitely a lot more sleek (and ergonomic) than the brick thing rp2 has going on, might not be worth it if you aren't getting into 6th gen and don't have much discomfort with the 2 though
>>
>>12216350
yeah if you let it control the folder creation it's a bit of a pain to move 16 consoles of roms to their new folders but i'm very happy with es-de. i followed retro game corps guide and it's amazing having saves synced across all devices
>>
>>12216354
es-de with the iisu skin is easily the most sleek experience I've had with a handheld; feels a lot like the psp in the best way possible with the combination of modern ui and the game previews and stuff, and the attract mode looks awesome even if you're sparsely going to see it. The pain in the ass I had getting it going was definitely worth it

>>12216329
I got the es-de apk "from a friend" so that's what I'm using. Upgrade from daijinsho.

>>12216332
I don't know what that is. And yeah, I guess I would prefer linux if it could be more plug and play like my RG353P (which can side-boot into android though I never do it) but having the android stuff on a handheld is always a nice ace to have up your sleeve if you need to go online. Plus the sleep mode is great.
>>
I heard they unfucked the dual screen attachment for the newer retroid models, can anyone confirm?
>>
>>12216375
I did the same thing myself, it makes daijinsho feel like shit in comparison

>>12216353
With the grip it's quite comfy, and I have steamdeck for anything the RP2 can't run, which honestly isn't much. Was surprised how well most gamecube stuff runs on it.

I guess I will just splurge on a hopeful, price drop for the RP5 since there are so many RP5 replacements out already with extra juice I don't really need

I've been considering on getting RG Slide as my 4:3 handheld. Anyone can tell me what's their experience with it?
I already have Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, but I wouldn't say it's pocketable because I'm worried the sticks getting caught
I'm fine with the chunkiness
>>

You can get patched roms with hotkeys to adjust the sun sensor that does not actually exist
>>
>>12216424
>>12216438
As someone who still owns a PSP Go, the Slide makes no sense to me. The PSP Go gets uncomfortable pretty quick because it's hard to grip and too top-heavy, but makes up for it by being more compact than anything else with a similarly-sized screen. The Slide throws away the portability advantage and leaves you with a horrifically uncomfortable handheld with sliding as novelty. It's somehow heavier and bigger than a Flip 2.

If you want a big 4:3 screen, get a RG-476H or RG-477M instead.
>>
>>12216451
i was reading up on the game and people are saying just use cheats for max sunlight, does that ruin the game?
>>
>>12216470
Nah not really, you dont even need cheats just a patched rom

the sun sensor was mostly a gimmick, which they eventually abandoned in the final game on ds because, as it turns out, making people stand/sit in the sun for long play sessions is actually not good for you
>>
>>12216428
retroid pocket classic off fucking amazon. I didnt do my research just was getting something else and splurge bought it. fucking kill me man.
>>
>>12216479
i think the black friday sale is still on for a couple more hours. is it too late to cancel the amazon order?
>>
>>12216479
just cancel it and buy a better console? at that price point a little extra cash for the rp5 seems like the play
>>
>>12216470
playing with max sunlight would ruin the game IMO, yes. a big part of the fun is playing it at night time too. the game has day and night cycles in addition to the solar sensor, and enemies are much harder at night. you cant refill your solar gun with no sunlight but there is a bank and other things in the game to get around this. just use the patched rom, give yourself a medium level sun level if its daytime out, if its night time leave it set to 0 for the optimal experience.

do you have to adjust the daylight manually or does it base it on the system time?
>>
>>12216482
you think its going to get here faster if I order straight off retroids site?
>>
>>12216491
you set it manually. in retroarch with mgba core you dont even need a patched rom, theres a feature in the core where you can map raising/lowering the sun level to a particular button
>>
>>12216491
the day/night cycle will be based off system time and the sun level you change manually, its two different things.
>>
>>12216492
i'm assuming it's not sold/shipped by amazon so it's coming from china either way. retroid with fpx shipping is going to take ~2 weeks (people in thread have been saying 8-13 days.) i'm assuming that even if your amazon ordered was fulfilled today it would take 7-11 days. upside to retroid: if something goes wrong they have support. GL with the amazon seller if it dies in 5 months
>>
>>12216483
I specifically wanted a gameboy-like with a square screen and no sticks to tickle my nostalgia, Im only going to use it for retro 2d stuff so its the perfect handheld for me. just wish it wasnt taking a month to get here if im lucky.
>>
>>12216506
the seller is shenzen moorechip which is the parent company of retroid so its probably coming from the same place either way. I shouldve just ordered off retroid but at this point I feel like its a wash anyway. oh well, one day Ill get to play it :(

I think it looks really nice. the only chinkhelds I think look nice are that one, anal log pocket, chromatic and ayn micro. the rest are ass ugly, especially with all of those horribly placed sticks and the knockoff psp/switches.

>>Brick Horizontal
>>G Cloud 2 OLED
We have pretty similar tastes. Already love my Brick, so I'd get a horizontal version day 1. And the G Cloud always caught my eye as one of the only handhelds with full size analog sticks but the d-pad turns me off. So I'd be interested in a successor if it fixes all the issues. Logitech doesn't seem interested though and it will also be overpriced again like the first one, even still in 2025 almost 2026 getting one new from an official retailer is still more than what the device is actually worth.

RP4P and RP5 has those when you pull down the Android menu from the top, but I can't find any info if the Classic also got it
