Instagib gets boring after a while because you only have one weapon. Give me bodies flying into space with rockets and flak grenades anyday.
>>
>>4657980
I don't mind flak or rockets, but I think instagib makes it a level field and faster paced -- even though some bots are insane with the auto-aim.

>>

>>
>>4669189
Main guy at oldunreal has an NDA for UE1. he has source code for versions..

220, 224v,(225f was lost/overwritten by 226f) 226f, 400, 432, 436, 451 and some unreleased builds of UT. upak.dll source was never dug up by epic -- "we dont have the bandwidth to..." so it's just a dummy dll where the original intent of the code was rewritten in uscript.

For what its worth, when Tim says the middleware in UE1 is a problem -- it's not. Galaxy source code was given to the devs from the original creator, and all renderers and such were made by the community. This also includes some new audio drivers.

Best I can think of that might be blocking is some proprietary intel SSE/gamespy shit still in the source code. Intel SSE instructions have C++ equivalent code -- so they can be stripped easily.

also, UE1 is surprisingly similar to UE4. More or less UE4 has a better rendering system, better audio system, and less... hacked physics/actors. The core workings of the engine (actors, subsystems) are largely the same.

UE4 still has unrealscript, it's blueprints now, there is no uscript compiler as /vr/ knows it, but you could theoretically reimplement it if you had UnCorSc.cpp
>>
>>4670896
I'm curious, what is stopping him from releasing those unreleased UT builds, just part of the NDA?
>>
>>4670953
he sees it as UTPG's job to release UT builds. Those guys still have an NDA for UT, but basically do nothing. Apparently, nothing very important was changed between 451 and whatever version... 468? he has. It's been a while since I asked about it.

Another reason is that he sees releasing a half baked build with no real bugfixes as kind of insulting to the community. Enough time has been spent on U1 alone that I can't imagine him working on U1 and UT at the same time.

Are they going to add widescreen support? I feel like that's pretty important, along with the remote execution thing if that hasn't been fixed.
>>
>>4672923
Pretty sure you can just change your inis to support it -- or use "setres 1920x1080" (or res of your choosing) and use "fov" command to support widescreen. I don't know if there's a limit on FOV with ultrawide res

enjoy your tiny ass hud/text though, not really shit that can be done about that at all from what I understand.

remote execution can be disabled by making your System folder readonly -- sucks if you want to save servers as favorites or something though. I guess you could explicitly make your UnrealTournament.ini and User.ini not read only.

yes, it does scale as res goes above 640.

what happened to this project? (Unreal Remake)

Because it wasn't anything like the original, it had a crappy plot, no massive graphical breakthrough, and the soundtrack wasn't as good as the first.

This. U2 has an insane arsenal. Was the most Unreal aspect.
>>
>>4675532
It didn't feel like Unreal, the Skaarj were thrown in at the beginning of the story and at the end, it didn't continue off where RtNP ended, and it felt like they wanted to steer into some weird RPG-like setting. If anything really, the weapons were well designed and they felt powerful.
>>
>>4667810
Probably because it uses dynamic lights a lot and the combo sounds stronger.
>>
>>4670586

Not really. Some libraries (under MIT licence too) can add lua or python support.
And Tom looman once showed how you can abuse dlc/plugins to load mods
And the newly added asset registry may be used to load things runtime
UE4 is still shit for modding
>>
>>4676460

Couple of things to note:
-intro can't be skipped (guess I'm too lazy to input a console command)

-earthquake effect with each step of the cyberdemon was a bit too much
-secrets are much more pleasant with unreal's bump into buttons kind of approach

Unreal Tournament ruined what I loved so much and I will never see a sequel. Epic Games created the alternative to Quake, focusing its game exclusively on PVP. I just picked up the full collection and I have some questions:
>Any mods I need? I already have 451 and BP4
>Do I need to add anything to the server list or does the browser already show all servers?
>Anyone still play 2004 or is this thread all about Unreal Gold/UT1999?
>>

Make sure to update the master server list

Discussion about UT2k4 is pretty small, so there's mostly UT99 or Unreal topics discussed.

So, who is still messing around with UnrealED?

Been mostly re-editing old maps like changing textures that don't look well or doesn't fit
>>
>>4714645

Just making some placeholder textures for the raw brushwork stuff. Very WIP and just for fun.
Probably not going to get my lazy ass to finish a map, tho.

Which UE are you working with? It looks different than the one I'm using

gamespy doesn't even exist anymore

Unreal Editor 2.1
with the extra buttons: Dave's Brush Builder Pack, Extended Brush Builders Pack, RahnemBrushBuilder, TarquinBrushBuilders and FrameBuilder...I think that was all of 'em?

>no massive graphical breakthrough

that game was released in February 2003, I don't remember other games at the times with the use and abuse of static meshes that unreal makes

can you not be banged by a skaarj?

>there is a very high chance it will be a reboot of the first one

no problem with this at this point
>>
>>4704765

not ue1 but ue2 actually has a ton of third party code

I'd really like to have my hands over the pariah/warpath/unreal championship 2 render code and the lineage 2 seamless map loading code

UC2 needs to be ported over to PC

My students play instagib every morning during group time (high school teacher here). It's fast and matches are over in about 10 minutes, which is all the time they get while I mark the roll for the day.

I once updated the original Deck 16 to have the added stuff and paths from UT99 and 2004.
Felt a bit like sacrilege, but played nice

Can maps made in 2.1 be used in UT99?
>>
>>4719287
You can use UT99 maps in Unreal 227, but the other way around?
Maybe if you don't use any of the features that are only in 227 / UnrealED 2.1?
for more see here
https://ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=5540

extra buttons / brush builders work in 2.0 as well, so if you want those, you don't have to use 2.1

Talk about a game being made too early. Those devs must be kicking themselves to this day.
>>
>>4718509
Back when it was released I was hoping it would eventually get a PC release. Now I think it looks too dated. It would be a good remake.

Also Chaos UT2

>wife never got into online gaming until recently
>plays the current dogshit like overwatch simply because that’s all her friends play
>show her UT99
>she gets in, starts fragging and makes some comments
>”I like it, but people now are too retarded to play this. They just want free kills that are participation medals in disguise.”
>”the maps are actually interesting and fun to navigate, even if you might go in circles your first few times they have a lot of charm
>”people actually die when I shoot them”
>”it’s a shame these games are dead.”
>>
>>4720949
I never got why they couldn't make a console and PC port.
>>
>>4658589
i was in your situation, feeling pretty pretty eh and slowing playing through it with months between sessions. But once i got to the gateway to na pali I really got in to it. maybe just because i find the whole floating medieval cities theme to be way more engrossing than ancient tombs and wrecked spaceships.

The outdoor environments is where the game excelled. This is also what made Serious Sam games and Far Cry stand out among a genre that was filled with mainly coridor shooters.

I've heard people saying that Unreal 2's multiplayer was pretty neat, but I never got to try it out.

>>4721560
Never tried it, but I think it still has a community
>>
>>4721204
It doesn't look too dated, I think it'd look much better on the PC with better graphical settings available.
>>
>>4675767
other anon here, you just made me wanna play it again. thanks

You didnt marry a casual, that's good
>>
>>4710547
radical heights is doing pretty good, not excellent but it has interest if they keep updating and supporting it
>>
Is there any way to contact the developers and ask if they're ever going to work on UT?
>>
>>4724674
I'm actually really sad thinking about this. I love Ut4. I adore it. I wish there were more maps. I wish the devs don't give up on it.
