What are some games with the same feel as Mother? Tons of games play like it (DW/DQ, etc) but I can't think of any with the similar feel
>>
Undertale

Hoshi wo Miru Hito

A lot of the Mario RPGs tend to give off a similar feeling of parodying the JRPG genre's tropes, but as for envoking the Americana feel I've yet to see another game do it.

I enjoy that game, but it's far more linear than Earthbound and doesn't have the same kind of funk.
>>
>>4966707
Fuck and off
>>
>>4966701
I'll check it out. Thanks.

>>4966702
Good call on Mario RPGs. How about RPGs set in roughly modern times with a slight sense of dread? The first twk generations pf Pokemon give off that same sense to me
>>
>>4966696
Not retro, but Attack of the Friday Monsters gave me very similar vibes.
>>
>>4966716
cringed and bluepilled

>>4966719
don't actually check out Hoshi wo Miru Hito
it's really fucking awful

>based and redpill isn't awful

>>4966729
How bad?
>>
>>4966720
>>4966697
Both aren't retro but they both fit. Attack of the Friday Monsters is great

Lisa: The Painful RPG feels like an M-rated Mother 2. I highly recommend it.
>>4966719
>How about RPGs set in roughly modern times with a slight sense of dread?
do you dig Shin Megami Tensei?
>>
>>4966696
Honestly there's nothing exactly like it honestly. Though I suggest maybe looking into the Dragon Quest series, they were a major inspiration for the series.
>>4966738
>Hoshi wo Miru Hito
It's literally known as the worst jrpg ever made. I actually suggest researching it, it is actually amazing how fucking terrible it is.

Though just to give some points though.
>the first town in the game is invisible on the overworld, this is never explained in game
>some of the first enemies are so strong they take zero (0) damage from you
>you can NOT run from battles
>the first weapon you are given makes you WEAKER, and you can unequip it unless you buy another weapon
>every time you die your experience resets, meaning you are back to level 1 again
And this is just the beginning.
>>
>all these posts about non-/vr/ shit
Take it to /v/ if it's that important for you to talk about.
>>
>>4966764
I've played Lisa 1 and most of the non VR SMT games. And the remake of the Saturn SMT. Which of the retro ones are worth playing
>>
>>4966789
undertale and lisa are technically retro though

>>
>>4966798
It's true. The IBM PC was introduced in 1981 so any PC game is retro.
>>
>>4966697
First cringe thread in /vr/? This game is pure garbage. Maybe you are the kind of people that think xenogear is a masterpiece
>>
>>4966764
Based. This game is dark, funny and sentimental. Patrician taste anon
>>
>>4966697
yep.
>>
Feeling, the word is feeling.
>>
>>4966696
i liked chulip on the ps2 (not retro i know) for similar reasons. little kings story is similar and by the same director, and also a much more playable game. both have weird sentimental settings with odd characters and good dialogue. would recommend.

>>4966720
that game is a spiritual sequel to games that are retro, the boku no natsuyasumi series. those games are legitimately great, japan only though.

>>4966764
this game is also very good

Sweet Home, Famicom. Capcom developed RPG based on the Kiyoshi Kurosawa film of the same name. Thought of as an antecedent to Resident Evil
>>
>>4966696
G.O.D. on SNES, Contact on DS, Giftpia on GC, Moon RPG on PS1.

More like TRIES to get you to feel. All the emotional aspects of that game feel so fucking forced and cringey
>>
Tried playing Earthbound recently and didn't enjoy it very much. RPG elements are tedious to me now and the world it was set in seemed like something I would have enjoyed a lot as a kid, but as an adult it didn't really do anything for me. Too bad I guess.
>>
>>4967507
I'll add a bit: the main thing that it felt like to me was going back and watching some old Nickelodeon cartoons that I liked 20 years ago or something. There's a definite charm to it and it has some things that adults can get a chuckle out of, but ultimately if you aren't a kid you're going to get bored after a while because its so shallow.

>>
>>4966697
No, Undertale is not a boring grinding simulator
>>
>>4967627
Grinding is the worst thing
>>
>>4966774
lmao what the fuck
>>
>>4967507
Mother 2 is my least favorite in the series because it's linear like mother 3 and slow like mother 1.
>>
>>4966774
>level 1
it's even worse
your characters start at level 0
>>
>>4966716
That's right!
OFF does have a kind of Mother vibe to it.
I like to think of these games as Motherlikes.
>>
>>4969460
Undertale doesn't even have an ounce of the soul and wit that the Mother games do Also fuck Toby and his shitty Halloween hack
