The first is the simplicity of the design and ease of reproducing it, especially on flags and banners. The second is the story: Jesus carrying his cross, falling, telling the thief he will be with him, etc. If he were executed by guillotine, we wouldn't be having this conversation because the "stations of the guillotine" wouldn't have had the memetic power to make Christianity so popular.
