Creating your own Openbox theme is actually pretty simple.

You can just download one and it's a small text file that you can edit to create your own theme.

I have very mixed feelings about WM desktops without a proper DE: they look clean, but they don't look like a good environment for working or doing things other than ricing. Bear in mind that this comment comes from a total noob.

this is very nice, add some inner padding to your terms and maybe make the border a couple pixels thicker, i think it would make it even better.

if you are unsure, test it out. you'll find that you don't need the full de. only using a wm is lighter and just install the things you need to use on the go

If you mean the tabs in your chrome, those aren't drawn by gtk, so you'd have to find some extension to change them or something.
>>
>>2046967
Thanks

I have the chrome setting "use GTK+" on and it seems to match my gtk3 theme for the most part. I also read somewhere it uses some custom gtk csd thing to render but I couldn't find any more info on it. I know you can create/download themes but it'd be easier if I could just do it through my gtk theme. Might end up switching back to firefox though

So I was sick of boring old Windows and wanted something pleasant.
Was thinking of Linux because of all the desktop threads in /w/.

I try installing ArchLinux on a Virtual Machine, ABSOLUTE PAIN IN THE ASS.
Hours till I finally got it working and at the end I was left with a terminal and nothing else.

Having no idea how to continue further, I just deleted it.
How do you anons do this shit man...

i did this in windows, try harder, also why would you use arch instead of ubuntu or something
>>
>>2046983
I don't have a good laptop so I didn't take Windows as a possibility at all. Seels like you'd be putting your computer in nails when you rice it with Windows while with Linux it would be in it's nature?

I used Arch since I saw it everywhere, and a lot recommended it as a "lightweight" distro.

(Bad idea since I have no experience whatsoever.)
>>
>>2046985
If you're new, try either Linux Mint or Ubuntu.
>>
>>2046983
Also, I would like to recreate something like this.

To my research, I haven't found any good guides on how to rice. It seems to be just, try to learn from others in threads or trial and error. Which is a bummer.

>>
>>2046989
Well, KDE id great in that you can essentially make it look and act just about how ever you like, but it might be a bit confusing for new users simply because of the VAST amount of options. I'd try just getting used to linux first before you do any serious ricing. Linux Mint has the Cinnamon desktop as default which is very similar to the Windows desktop, making it friendly to former Windows users. I highly recommend it.
>>
>>2046885
When you use any application, try to read its documentation at some point (man pages or online). This will help you A LOT. Write scripts to 'glue' together different pieces of software in a creative manner. You will find that (after some experience) your custom 'DE' created with your scripts and good config files will be much more efficient than other general use DEs. Use dotfiles from old ricers (tudurom, z3bra, dkeg, xero, nxll to name a few) as inspiration.
However remember that functionality > aesthetics.
>>
>>2046990
They fill two parts.
1. they remap shortcuts so they are comfy to use.
2. they give me functions windows 10 doesn't have such as alt-drag and resize, scroll tabs with mousewheel, both from linux.

I also tend to use third-party program to customize windows the way I want it. I normally take the best from the Linux and Mac world into Windows.
It's pure nonsense that windows is not customizable. If I didn't use ahk, I would use Linux or Mac for sure. But for now, windows. My setup is pretty advanced.

>>2047057
It's the yandex pop-up player.
From the Yandex Browser. Really awesome browser, and my favorite, no matter what reputation or what 4chan blindly says about it. The player works for youtube, viki.com and most sites from my experience. That video is a youtube video. The Opera browser have a similar player and function, but imo worse. Yandex does pretty much all the things opera and chrome does, just better, faster and more beautiful.

Ditch Mate and install XFCE. It's not that Mate is bad, but XFCE simply grants better customization at no expense, because it's easy to set every aspect through the UI. For instance, centering the clock in the middle of a bar is a children's game: just add a couple of separators at the extremities of the clock and expand them. I'm not at home now, but if you're interested I can show you the look of my XFCE desktop. It's very similar to your settings, because I'm using your same theme and icon pack.

everyone who uses arch talks about how great the aur is and how it makes 'customization so easy' when in reality having a rolling release distro is antithetical to customization because whatever weird esoteric packages you compile from source or write yourself will constantly have to be updated for whatever new library update you get

arch is only for people who pay lip service to customization
its pathetic

I'm not that desktop user, but I know bug.n window manager for windows can undecorate windows manager as well as tiling and the other things. Bug.n is basically ahk scripts. so AHK can do it, but maybe not perfect. bug.n does a good job though if I remember correctly.

has anyone been able to get userchrome.css to work with firefox 57 yet? if so, any advice?
>>
>>2048817
You need to put it inside a "chrome" directory in your firefox's profile directory.
On Linux it's ~/.mozilla/firefox/**/chrome
** is the profile directory name usually something like (random string).default
On Windows it's in AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/**/chrome
Name the file userChrome.css inside the chrome directory (which you will most likely have to create yourself).

It was a startpage somebody on Reddit had made. All I did was change the colours, the picture, and the links. Here's the original;

https://www.reddit.com/r/startpages/comments/6qmecq/first_startpage_bonus_waifu/

Thankfully, it's really easy to change and customise the html and css files to whatever you want, and I know literally nothing about html. The picture I made for the corner is higher up in the thread by the way

Thanks, But which addon do you use to have this (firefox doesn't support custom page and old addon you did that, stopped working with Quantum) ? If I make sense

oooh, it's just my homepage. I don't use it as a new tab, but I would if I could find a way to.

But to just use it as a homepage, you copy the path to index.html and paste it into the homepage option in preferences

such as? i know most people aren't using emacs 90% of their time, but if you're suggesting anything but terminal and emacs looks out-of-place, you're wrong
firefox is themed, i have no other program that uses either gtk or kde, since i use coq within emacs
if there was, i'd probably modify breeze (since it works with gtks and kde) though i use arcane distro so it's possible it would take more time than you'd like
