This is a script I wrote that I use in conjunction with cron to periodically change my desktop theme, so it doesn't become too boring.
I'll post it here together with the color scheme files and wallpaper images, in case someone wants to use it.

Here is the script:
http://ix.io/1cDM

Here are the color schemes:
http://ix.io/1cDH

The color schemes are taken from various internet sources, especially from xero (https://github.com/xero).

And here are the exact wallpapers I use:
https://imgur.com/a/NSTbGcZ

Youtube video of how it works:
https://youtu.be/CDEZaVP4vBE
>>
>>2086317
I haven't tried your script but isn't it just a manual version of pywal? What's the point?
>>
>>2086318
It was inspired by pywal for a way to send color schemes to currently open terminals. What I don't really like about pywal, though, is that the colors don't really come that good. Sometimes it's hard to read. This is just a way to incorporate your own schemes that you like and have already tweaked.
I made this for myself, but then just figured why not dump here, maybe someone want to use it, or gets inspired to make something on their own?
>>
>>2086319
>maybe someone want to use it, or gets inspired to make something on their own?
No that's great, I'll try it out tomorrow. I currently don't use pywal but when I did I thought it worked out just fine. But you're right, I do have some old schemes that I liked saved so it would be nice to easily switch between them
>>
>>2086320
Pywal is fine. I just almost always had to make minor tweak to the colors for readability. Hope you make it work, as I wan't really planning to share this anywhere when I was making it for myself, so I wasn't too concerned with making it very generalized. It has very strict formatting requirements for file paths and file names.
Shouldn't be a problem to anyone who's a bit more familiar with linux, though.

nanami-tan.info will likely expire and remain a dead domain come July 1.

I have no plans to renew the domain as this hobby hasn't been a thing for me for some time - not that anyone cares, just FYI.

The page lives here technically:

https://gbgl-hq.com/demoness/html/index.html

The repo can be forked and hosted on github.io too, granted no one should care about Windows 7 at this point.

I'm a bit drunk, but yeah you made it somewhat clear that it was the bg.. When I used windows I had pretty good luck with the polybar rainmeter skin. But I also had an image viewer that did what I wanted it to which I can't fucking remember the name of..

Yeah it was kinda nice, the tray was a bit fucking slow when I used it but that might be better now..

I wanna say pviewer but that might have been in combination with an AHK script and not just a convenient setting (I know it has slim borders if any but I'm talking about the titlebar here), I really don't feel like booting into windows to check

the only thing visible that is from windows is the cluttered disgusting tray. editing a *box config on windows is only """very hard""" if you're too stupid to figure out notepad.

looks really nice! unrelated, but here are some tips on the go code:
- databaseFile.Close() will panic if err != nil, because in that case databaseFile == nil.
- change err.Error() == "EOF" to err == io.EOF - a pointer comparison costs less than a string comparison (and is more explicit)
there are some more nits, but those are mostly style related and there's time for you to learn. have fun with go!

For the Vim folks: how do you get your color schemes to look right in the terminal? Do you write your own?
>>
>>2088871
I also have a question about this. Vim themes don't work for me. Every time I try to install a vim theme, it only uses colours that I've defined in my Xresources, not the colours defined in the Vim colourscheme. Is that supposed to happen?
>>
>>2088942
Did you add it to your vimrc? Does it not change with :colo nameofthescheme?
>>
>>2086317
can you share the wallpaper pls?
>>
>>2088943
for example, if I try to change the colorscheme to blue, one of the default vim colorschemes, the screen turns... grey.
>>
>>2088946
to add on to this, here's a screenshot of me trying to use the blue colorscheme. the pink tilde colour is not in my Xresources, but the two grey colours in vim are.
>>
>>2088942
I did some research and apparently most color schemes are written exclusively for GUI Vim (that is, GVim, Neovim-Qt, et cetera). As most terminal emulators only support 88 or 256 colors, you would need to use a plugin like CSApprox (https://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=2390) that parses the file and tries to approximate and reproduce the colors with escape sequences. Check this article http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Using_GUI_color_settings_in_a_terminal . Of course you can always just use a color scheme written for the terminal.

on one hand making chrome less aids by using electron seems smart but on the other why use outdated versions of chromium when you can just stay on firefox like a normal person.

this is just a shitty windows rainmeter setup.

no point in having the shortcuts near the bottom right corner when you decided to use a dock.

also, your taskbar is totally fucked. hide all those system icons in the tray and clean up your pinned applications. do you really need three shortcuts for apps like chrome, steam, and vlc?

idk why you wanted to use the win7 start orb but it looks tacky.

change browsers and media players while you're at it too, good luck.

Is 1.18.0 the latest version?
Also, should I install normally or as shell? I'm sort of new to this too
>>
>>2090781
I believe that's the latest, yeah. Well, you can install it "normally" first so you still have the original explorer.exe running in the background, in case you don't get the hang of it. You can just install it as the primary shell later when you're more comfortable with it.

Maybe I missed it. I'm new to Linux in general. Does anyone have a guide of sorts to help me get started? Thanks
>>

(psst.. don't let the cool kids hear this)

You should not rice your GNU/Linux distribution if you're new to linux.
You should choose a desktop environnement eg. Gnome/KDE to start with which is user friendly. Then start using the system, compiling your first package, writing shell scr
ipts for fun...

Ricing is not that hard but it's really time consuming. And generally it's hard to do basic stuff you could do in your ready-to-use desktop environnement (such as mountin
g disks, or configuring your pulseaudio server). However the result may depend on how good you riced, will you become more productive? Will you be able to do complex task
s easily?
Besides the ricing community is pretty retarded:
The most used image viewers for riced desktops are feh and sxiv -- which both of them don't support animations in gifs. So they use their web browser to do it or any vide
o player.

Nevertheless, the choice is yours. I personally riced my desktop once, it looked good, but it was a pain keeping up to date every packages.
>>
>>
>>2090912
Appreciate it. Thanks for the help
>>
>>2090912
sxiv supports gifs. Ctrl+Space if I remember correctly. But yea, learn to use your computer and then you can worry about how pretty it looks after.
