Okay I need you guys to bear with me for a sec.The reason I'm so deadest on the Fumi-Death theory is because of how Part 2's entire worldview feels really contradictory to the actual themes it's trying to convey.First chapter:>Asa refuses to get out of her shell and connect with people>Asa expresses envy at her classmates having satisfying friendships>This is portrayed as a character flaw for AsaThat's all fine and good, but the problem is that most characters Asa or Denji run into turn out to be comically evil assholes. Which sends the implicit message that Asa's initial worldview was RIGHT and that she shouldn't try to connect with people because they'll backstab her anyway.I think the best example of this was Fumiko. Cause she's everything Asa dislikes about society>Extroverted>Dresses and acts like a slut>Is getting close with the boy Asa's crushing onHowever instead of Fumiko actually getting to be a 3 dimensional and flawed character like Asa or Denji, she's a one dimensional comically evil asshole because people who oppose Asa/Denji are not allowed to be nuanced.The story, intentionally or not, validates what Asa thought at the start of the manga. Everyone you come across is a snake and their problems don't matter except for that one cute boy/girl you met.Like, you can't have a character go through an arc where they grow as a person and mature if their initial, childish mindset is the one the story actually supports. It's just, well, not good writing.Shit remember how in Part 1 the story showed us sympathetic sides to people like Aldo, Reze, or even arguably Makima despite them all being antagonists to Denji? That kind of stuff made the setting feel "lived in" because the story treated them as more than JUST obstacles for Denji to encounter.
