I don't think Boruto itself is bad, it has a good concept. The character design is pretty cool... The problem is that it's not in the same universe as Naruto. It would be nice as it's own thing, but not a Naruto "sequel"

As he sets Naruto aside he reveals who his parents were and that he's basically his godfather, you can set up that scene to be really powerful, a little jokey after but that realization that Jiraiya was basically the person his parents would've chose to look after him and that was fulfilled is the type of scene most writers love to set up and make happen.
