It feels underwhelming. Back in Ashura, the last chapters implied there was a world beyond the KA fighters, that expending their horizons was the key to their growth. Even the winner accepted he still was far from his ideal self. Now it kinda feels like KA *was* the pinnacle and characters throw Kuroki's name as the endgame of all powerlevels every time they can. The supposed rival org's champion is just used by Ohma as a training dummy and even the big bad just ended up killing himself without doing anything.I never really like stories that seem to limit themselves like this, it makes the world feel so small you know?

Most of the fights in this tournament were two people tapping each other until one landed their finishing move (or suicided lmao), there's no real damage to either fighter most of the time. In Ashura, so many of the fights felt like incredibly violent, desperate struggles. Like, with Cosmo vs Akoya, you could genuinely feel Cosmo's fear as a psychopath was slowly brutalizing him with the intent to murder him, it was excellent. Most fighters didn't make it out of their fights without serious injuries--by the time you get to Kuroki vs. Ohma, Kuroki has had his fingers broken about 10 times and Ohma is a walking corpse. I think this is one of the reasons why Liu's fight was so good compared to all the others--it felt like a genuine struggle between two passionate fighters. I get that this tournament format made it harder to give the fighters lasting damage, but imagine if Ohma's arm actually stayed fucked up rather than being fixed with Niko healing magic. It's kind of amusing when you consider that both the KA and Purgatory adopt no killing rules, and yet somehow Purg vs. KA ends up with far more deaths than the KAT, and yet the KAT feels 1000x more brutal overall.
