S1 is genuinely really, really good. Sure, the animation's a little janky, but the direction (RIP) and visual designs are really unique compared to everything that comes after, and the pacing is beyond incredibly well done - slice-of-life and action blend together in a way that makes neither seem any more important than the other, something the series never managed to accomplish again, and every single episode pushes the plot and characters forward in a meaningful and unique way rather than just having a battle and then back to HQ to regroup.I think it's kind of a victim of its own success, in that the suits realized just how good the "singing while fighting" format was for pushing seiyuu singles like it's Love Hina, and after that the story had to be written around constant fights even if the story didn't really need them. If/when if comes back, I really hope we can get more of a blend of the two again, as well as a little more out-there shot composition and designs. Give me Lydian 1's weird-ass lecture-hall classrooms and sudden bizarre camera angles again.

So for the second half of XV, we get shark-Shemmy AND Miku-Shemmy, with Shem-Ha occupying body bodies at once.
