It was a minor tie-in to the whole fall of Krakoa thing, where NIghtcrawler is hiding in plain sight by borrowing a costume from Spider-Man and pretending to be another alternate version of him.I may be biased just because I like Nightcrawler in general, but I thought it was actually a good book on its own, it did the crossover thing well by doing an interesting remix of concepts and characters from X-Men and Spider-Man settings.I bring it up here because in the book the villains have figured out how to use a sample of the techno-organic virus to assimilate people and make them into a new iteration of The Hounds. Cloak and Dagger, and a couple of C-lister X-women get converted. And there's some pretty good dialogue about how they're on some level aware, but can't stop themselves because the techno-goop has rewired their brains such that collecting targeting info and then acting on it on command is the only thing that feels good to them now.

It's like the writer wanted to create a red herring, but had no idea how to do it in a satisfying way.About the comic in general, I really liked the art in that book but the writing was just eh. I feel like there was a kind of a "who is this for?" conflict. Getting to see these 3 characters working and living together as like a family unit with Babs as like a den mother is something that would appeal to older, generally male long-time comic fans. But the writing seemed like it was trying to appeal to younger female fans, who wouldn't be coming in to this with any reason to already care.

>>8543214I must have forgotten all the alternate explanations for the hypnosis. I just chalked it up to Steph being spunky and enthusiastic but lacking in willpower. Her going into the second encounter thinking she's mentally prepared to resist but still falling instantly was extremely hot from a hypnofetish perspective. She resisted it the third time, but that felt like the writers giving her a win to resolve the plot. A more realistic scenario would have seen her submit yet again and be benched in future fights with any hypnotic villain. She'd try anyway every now and then and need to be rescued.I also liked the art in the Batgirls series. As you said, it probably tried to appeal to nostalgic older fans and a new audience. It was a shame it got cancelled, but it had a decent run.
