just watched goodwill hunting and this quote hit home from an analysis:
He's also managed to create a world for himself where he never feels challenged and never has to put his heart on the line for anyone. But these are the exact things that he'll need to grow out of if he's ever going to experience the best things in life. As his therapist Sean Maguire tells him many times, he's going to miss out on a ton of great stuff if he keeps living in the world of books and not experiencing things for himself.

I find personally that i have a lot of these moments where life is actually conspiring for me to have these moments of putting the heart on the line-the intensity of it haunts me to this very day. it makes for a whole complex of self doubt. basically because i dont do them and i question if maybe i shouldnt be doing them at all. but then i sort of meet my soulmate in college and the story continues
what do you guys think, do you ever have experiences in life where life is telling you to put your heart on the line? this dynamic has gotten me to drop out of college. it hurt while it was happening then and it hurts now because i have this spiritual crisis of faith

so questions:
is there an implied system in life that involves possibly "missing out on great stuff" or "if hes ever going to experience the best things in life""he needs to grow out of not putting his heart on the line"
>>
Adler explicitly warned that under-challenging oneself breeds deeper discouragement than failure
