Hi all, F18 here, in the future I’m hoping to do mental health nursing, my plan is to serve in the army as a MH nurse, I’m actually studying for a career that’s not even related to it, but I plan on switching next year so this won’t go to waste, I’d say I have good intuition and emotional intelligence, but these days I feel like it’s slipping away, and I’d like to continue building that up, I was wondering if I could talk to anyone, add them off of here? Anyone struggling with mental health issues, i.e. (anxiety, depression, identity crisis etc) I’ve been very attentive on mental health discord servers, but the amount of requests I got was just overwhelming, and I felt more used than anything, since then I got rid of it, it was too draining and I got busy with school but now I have more time, and I’ll have to get over those feelings because I know it’ll be an emotionally demanding job, I was taught the best way to tackle someone struggling with mental health issues is to befriend them first
@evewena
Hello, I don't know if it's correlated or anything, but I still would like to hear your opinion on if there anything I can do to help me care more about others. Currently I have a couple of old friends from school and one friend in university, but I feel like I don't really care about them. While it's fun to meet with them and I do that once every couple of months, I don't mind not meeting up with them.I think that caring about someone is a prerequisite to forming a meaningful connection and I would like to do that someday but I just don't know how.
>>33928096Sure, a lot of people actually feel that way sometimes, especially when life gets busy or when emotional energy is low, you of course don’t have to force yourself to care more right away, sometimes connection grows naturally from small, consistent things, like checking in, listening, spending time together without expectations, the “caring” part usually follows along once you start getting to know people on a deeper level, it could also help to look at what makes you feel cared for or understood, and that can give clues about how you connect with others too, hope this helps!
are you in the U.S? If you want to take that path i would not suggest the Army, military mental health treatment is a disaster, youd be better off helping people by going to college
>>33928178Hello, thank you for the concern, I really do appreciate the heads-up, I’m actually based in the UK, and my goal is to become a MH nurse and then serve in the Army here, it’s something very personal to me and inspired by a loved one, so I’m committed to this path and understand completely what it involves, still, I really appreciate the care behind your message
>>33928066wrong place, there are no people with mh issues here

>>33928066I'm curious how many guys you will run through if you join the army. 100?You definitely don't want to befriend people with mental illness as a professional as it will drain you fast.You will either give up due to burnout or stop seeing them as people, think clinical detachment.
>>33928066I hope you get your fill of BBC, femanon
>>33928066You should go back to the Discord servers, but learn to deal with the amount of requests. Only take on a certain amount of people at one time. idk how discord works, maybe set up a "status" or something so people know you're not taking on any more requests.Also you should not be practicing mental health advice/medicine without proper training, honestly. It's okay to talk and to understand people, but you shouldn't be giving out medical advice/assistance to someone if you're not qualified.I've worked in mental health the last two years, and let me tell you - if you're not cut out for the emotional drainage, the stress, or you struggle with mental health issues yourself do not get into this field. good luck anon

>>33928698Thanks so much for this, I really appreciate your insight and the reminder about boundaries, but just to clarify, I don’t and will never offer any kind of professional or medical advice, until I am qualified to do so, I only want to provide a supportive space for people who might need someone to listen, and I always encourage anyone struggling to seek professional help, and I completely understand the emotional weight of this kind of work, I’m taking things one step at a time while I work toward becoming a qualified mental health nurse in the future
