Hi! New to this site but it seemed the best place to ask for advice for my problem. For context I go to high school in a very very blue state. My family and friends are all very progressive, as am I. I’m not all too politically involved, but I would still considered my a leftist and feminist. Honestly, I’ve never really had much more than smalltalk with conservatives. That is, until recently. There’s a guy who I’ve gotten to be friends with recently, very polite, charismatic, assertive, and more than a little handsome (quite built). I’m usually not into guys much but he has honestly won me over. That is, until just a few days ago I found out he’s a republican from a friend. Not just a republican but pretty far right :/. I was shocked because he didn’t seem sexist or mean or anything, nothing like what I’d expect. My friends all obviously think I should avoid him, but I’m starting to think what I know about republicans may be off. What exactly can I expect from dating a right winger? Is the wife beating, sexist, racist stereotypes true? Asking here because I know this site leans right and I’m curious about your viewpoints.
