I like that there are plenty of based zoos/animal sanctuaries that still believe in survival of the fittest in some capacity. They stock antivenom but don't distribute it in cases like this... because fuck literal retards who don't bother with basic protections.
>>
>>4872942
>They stock antivenom but don't distribute it in cases like this...
really?
>>
>>4872945
they stock it so it's available for their staff if they need it (or I guess if the snakes escape and bites little timmy). They don't keep it around for dumpass snake influencers.
>>
>>4872942
doesn't matter in this case. the number of places in the US that have taipan antivenom you can probably count on one hand and i doubt any of them were anywhere near south carolina
>>
I've been microdosing taipan venom since I was 3 months old and I'm feeling fiiiiii
>>
Need an update on this retard jew
>>
>>4872837

He was on a ventilator with organ failure. Had recieved multiple vials of antivenin.
Even if he survives it is likely he will have long term issues. His snakes were seized or transferred to authorities by his father or someone, and many were killed.
Many of those snakes didn't even belong to him but were owned and loaned to him.

Many places with antivenin were unwilling to provide help since he is so foolish in handling and they have limited amounts for thier own staff, and he took longer to get it as a result.
>>
>>4873225
Grim. He's lucky he's alive at all as of the last update. If he'd been bitten by an adult taipan he probably would've died before the hospital could even find someone with antivenom, let alone access it
>>
>>4873232
Aren't babies typically deadlier or is that an urban legend?
>>
>>4873241
It's a myth
>>
>>4873241
Babies are less likely to dry bite because they have less conscious control of their venom release, but adults have way more venom and there’s no difference in potency.

Some snakes are more likely to dry-bite as adults than they are to envenomate, so in those cases the young snakes are more dangerous, but it’s not an inherent fact.
>>
>>4873256
>>4873262
Thanks, good to know since the place I'm moving to has a fuck ton of rattlers.
>>
>>4873267
Most rattlers are pretty safe to live around. Their identifying feature is a bite avoidance structure, after all. Most dogs can be easily trained to avoid them too.
>>
>>4873275
even if they do bite you, rattlesnake bites only have about 1/700 chance of killing you. yeah its a bad fucking day but most people who actually die from rattler bites are kids or drunks.

anyways very sad that they saved this retard. only dumb fucking faggots keep non-native hots as a hobby and only even dumber ones don't acquire antivenom ahead of time.

KWAB. Does this actually happen in Burgerland? I've never seen a single death by snake bite here in Australia.
>>
>>4873433
Deaths by snake bite do occur in the US, but are rare, about 5 or 6 a year on average. Looking it up, Australia has like a death or two every year on average from snake bites; considering that the US has a dozen times more people than Australia that means the average Aussie is more likely to die by snake than the average American, but in both countries it is still a very rare way to go.

I lived in Australia and all you need to do is wear boots and trousers if you're hiking, treat every stick you see as a potential snake, and walk on the paths/tracks. Snakes don't want to bite you they only do it if they feel threatened or you are a doofus and running through the bush and stomp on one. Also always check for snakes if you're moving logs around outside or have to go through grass or at a woodpile or anything like that use your intelligence, also learn what to do if you do get bit and stay calm

It happens but rarely. Most of our venomous snakes are either very good about telling you to fuck off, at staying out of the way, or are just not super confrontational. With the exceptions (copperheads mainly) not being all that deadly
>>
did he die yet
someone update
>>
>>4874935
He posted to facebook last night.
>#notdeadyet

other than that no updates. I suppose he'll be begging for someone to donate him a kidney next.
>>
>>4874679
There's a very good chance he'd be dead if he didn't get any antivenom; the venom lab in Miami probably flew some over to him, they handle a lot of dumbass cases like this on the east coast. The antivenom that covers taipans is stupid expensive, a lot of US zoos don't bother keeping Australian elapids just because of the antivenin costs and there's very few people who legally privately keep venomous snakes in the US, let alone Australian elapids.
>>
>>4874729
This, but unironically
>>
>>4874947
Even if he doesn't die, the complications of not having working kidneys and having to do dialysis would make him wish he was

grim stuff if you really think about it
>>
>>4874649
you learned about 4chan from text to speech greentext tiktoks, and I recommend you return.
>>
>>4874679
I'm sure they'd be more forthcoming with the stuff if it were in more plentiful supply, but by giving it away they risk one of their own zookeepers/conservationists/visitors/etc dying or suffering lifechanging injury (and potential lawsuits that may follow) if they don't have any replacement antivenom available in time, so it's not that irrational to be hesitant about giving their stock to someone who got bitten acting like a dumbass for facebook likes.
>>
>>4874729

and you're just gonna...keep it?
what a monster!
>>
>>4875099

>>
>>4874720
Its only rare because theres no reason to produce a lot of it
Surely if someone needs to use it they can just make more?
Isnt that the whole point of it?
>>
>>4875442
Antivenin takes weeks to produce a batch of.
>>
RN here. I've worked both in the kidney ward and later specialised in ICU.
Even if he pulls through to the point where they can discharge him his life is fucking fucked and it won't be a long one.
Dumbass deserves it both for handling the snake and for having that last name. Wonder what the hospital bill will be.
>>
>>4875471
>>4875442
And since its a biological product it likely has an expiration date on top of that, and unless they specifically add preservatives to it its likely a short one.
>>
>>4875474
A while ago I found a video of a nature photographer talking about getting tagged by a rattlesnake and the entire process of hisbhealing and stuff, and at the end he presented his medical bill of about $250,000, most of which ended up getting paid by his insurance. Considering the level of care he's receiving and the tume involved Id expect no less than seven digits.
>>

>>
>>4875508

>>
>>4875442
>just make more lol
People really underestimate the cost and time needed to produce biochemicals. Especially for something like antivenom which requires you to extract venom from the snake and use it on a horse, whose antibodies you extract
>>4875475
It can be stored near indefinitely with antifreeze like ethylene glycol but yeah, there's no guarantee that it'll retain it's composition forever
>>
>>4875767
>>just make more lol
This but unironically
Everything costs money and takes time
>>
>>4875475
Thats an argument in favor of using it
>>
>>4875812
My point was that there's probably not all that much because its so rare, so all that would likely exist is a specific (and likely small) amount that they periodically have to refresh. I doubt anyone is hoarding it, iys likely that there just isnt very much of it anywhere.
Keep in mind its not just a bottle of cure poison and youre good to go, you usually need to have antivenin administered multiple times based on how youre doing at the moment, how much you envenomated, and even where on your body you were bit.
The photographer mentioned in >>4875479 got something along the lines of 32 vials throughout his treatment. If he had been bit in a similar fashion that WASNT native to the area he probably would have had a far rougher go of things simply because they didnt have that much of whatever they needed available.
Fuck, now that I think of it there might not even be much of an extensively detailed bite protocol for inland taipans because so few people have ever gotten bitten.
>>
>>4875824
>bite protocol for inland taipans

>Antivenom as soon as possible
>Treat symptoms as they appear
>Pray
>>
>>4875834
it's a little bit more complicated than that. see pic related, they usually give the specific kinds of toxins in the venom as well as antivenin types and sources. some I've seen will even have dosage recommendations, though that's probably also available from the manufacturer.
>>
>>4875475
It does indeed expire. Most zoos keep expired antivenom in addition to fresh antivenom anyway because hey, it MIGHT work.
>>4875812
That gets back to the problem of antivenom that covers Australian elapids being so rare in the US. Someone in Fiji isn't likely to have a snow shovel but probably does have sandals. Someone in Australia could get antivenom for a taipan easily but not for an eastern diamondback rattlesnake.
This is all on top of the fact that snakebites are very rare in the US because very few people are as stupid as this guy. Even antivenom for native species, while usually stocked at hospitals, isn't exactly hoarded, and they've even stopped bothering making coral snake antivenom because it'd just sit on shelves and expire.
>>
>>4875809
Making antivenom carries a significant risk of death.
>>
>>4875885
Source? Is it really more risky than logging, fishing or even truck driving?
>>
>>4875508
Assuming he wasn't bit directly into an artery, how quickly does snake venom spread into the bloodstream? Should he have instantly resorted to tourniquet followed by amputation or would it have been pointless?
>>
>>4873426
Animals being animals as usual pay for humans being idiots.
>>
>>4875896
>Is it really more risky than logging, fishing or even truck driving?
First I need to know that you understand
If one person dies milking snakes that's a much higher risk than if 5000 truckers die driving trucks.

do you get that?

Like another anon said he'll eventually die but it will be a slow and painful death. Just the fact he's on dialysis means he's absolutely fucked, and likely he has damage in multiple other organs. Docs are pretty good at keeping people alive at the hospital but high chances that guy won't leave for too long.
>>
>>4876093

Could he survive with a kidney transplant?
Because if that's the case, I'm gonna need assurance that they wouldn't actually waste precious organs on someone with this little sense of self-preservation
>>
>>4876117
The only way I can see this guy ever getting a kidney is by having a relative who is willing to donate and also is compatible. The chances of that are already slim, and if he is as much of an asshole IRL as he appears on the couple of screenshots posted here he might have fucked himself out of that option.
>>
>>4876117
Not completely sure how it works in the US but due to his circumstances he should be very low on the transplant queue, so unless he pays for it then yeah he should be fucked.

Sort of. Long enough to get your affairs in order, but organ transplants suck.

Update: he posted on Facebook bragging up getting it on video. No regret about the snakes and surviving has just inflated his ego, so hopefully either medical debt or organ failure will correct that

He has nothing but ego
humility would kill him when the taipan failed.

south carolina has basically no laws on the matter last i heard, you can actually find hots at reptile shows there.

>>4877147
the zoos refused to take them because they were all maltreated and had obvious signs of illness, nobody wants to bring a sick snake into their collection and risk everything getting it and dying.

this guy should be banned from owning any animals for the rest of his life (hopefully a year or two at most).

Even if the guy is an asshole it's pretty fucked up to wish a horrible death on, just saying. He didn't really do anything worse than what most people on here do every day.

Why are you here if you hate animals? Or do you only read dog/cat threads?
>>
>>4877305
I like most animals other than bugs. But they aren't worth getting so upset over that you hope a human being dies of liver failure. It's a stupid question anyway because it's a discussion board not a hugbox, even if I did hate animals I'd have as much right to express that opinion as you have yours.
>>
>>4877311
I rejoice whenever evolution goes back on its designed course, even if it is for a brief second like this.
>>
>>4877298
>comes to /an/ to hate animals
You're such a faggot. The lives of the snakes they killed valued much, much more than this imbecile's own ever could
>>
>>4877292
I don't wish death on him but like Kentucky Reptile Zoo I absolutely wouldn't gift him extremely rare inland taipan antivenin either. From what I can tell you wouldn't get reimbursed for this and judging by this guy's posts he'd probably resume shitting on your work soon after. >>4872838
>>
>>4877318
Apathy is not the same thing as hatred. It would have been better if the snakes could have been saved but circumstances meant they could not.
>>
>>4877241
Zoos also need to have able to be verified documentation on the animal's origin, or they might get in deep shit during an inspection. If you can't prove to officials your CITES appendix 1 listed species isn't a wild caught victim of animal traffickers you better prepare your anus for a long legal process that involves hefty fines and possibly even some confiscations.
And something tells me this complete shitter, who apparently didn't even care about the most basic animal husbandry, bothered with any proper paperwork.
>>
>>4877292
I don't wish him death desu since he didn't do anything that is deserving of a horrible death, but at the same time i feel little sympathy.

This comes as a shock to people on the internets,

but it doesn't actually matter if people wish him death or wish him good health. Wishing doesn't make the slightest bit of difference.
There's a solid chance he's going to die a horrible death soon no matter what people wish on him.
>>
>>4877527
>snakes aren't automaton
that attitude is why he got bit. He free handles to prove that snakes have emotions and can learn to love their owners.

Not sure if that's true or not, but he's been doing it a long time so I guess snakes can at least get used to their owners and learn to not bite them
>>
>>4877500
That's true but in a very autistic way. He probably will die because of his actions, that doesn't mean it isn't deeply disturbed behavior to exult in that death.
>>
>>4877529
He is a danger to society, since he teaches children to handle venomous creatures in dangerous ways.
>>
>>4877529
4chan isn't really known for compassion, but from what I've seen he's getting more sympathy here than he is on facebook among the people that actually know him.
>>
>>4877533
It may be optimistic but I really doubt many children are out there buying taipans. At the very worst they may do something risky with a local venomous but it's their parents' job to teach them proper safety around wild animals, don't you think?
>>
>>4877534
He's probably way more insufferable in person.
>>
>>4877536
parent:
>okay child don’t touch snakes
cool reptile guy who comes into your school and lets you pet sick snakes and seems more knowledgeable than your parents
>yeah basically if you stock antivenin you’re a huge pussy and you can wield venomous snakes freely with no precautions lol
>also you can leave snakes starving in tiny storage totes in your living room lol
>>
>>4877528
>so I guess snakes can at least get used to their owners and learn to not bite them
Quite a few of the stories I've heard of venom dudes who ended up getting tagged had it happen with a wild specimen after freehandling their own snakes for years without incident. The most famous recent example of this is probably Chandler with a wild cobra. And he was spectacularly lucky to walk away from that with just part of his finger missing, thanks to his crew and being in a country where they actually have the required antivenin in a few hospitals.

So yeah I think it's safe to assume you can desensitize venomous snakes to people like you can with a constrictor type. It's just that one tiny fuck up can have life-changing consequences, which is why keepers with a brain don't go in with their bare mitts.
>>
>>4877271
>the venomous inland taipan is....Le Poisonous??!!
>>
>>4877271
funniest post on this site right now
>>
>>4877575
Makes sense. In Jeff's case I think he misidentified why his snakes don't bite him. He thinks it's because he's calm and fearless when really they're just used to him.
So he gets a new snake and thinks if he's calm and fearless it won't tag him. Even now I don't think he understands why that's wrong. Being chill with snakes certainly would prevent a lot of bites, but not all of them.
>>
>>4876631
Amazing how everyone essentially told this guy to go fucking himself and die, I didn't know reptile owners were this based.
>>
>>4877428
>A man should die because he didn't really care about a lizard
He should have died because he wasted valuable medical resources because of his retarded behaviour, kept live animals in awful conditions and pretended like he wasn’t afraid to die saying “antivenom is for pussies” until it actually came down to life or death

>something that literally has no feelings, no self awareness, nothing, just mechanical responses from something that feels as much pain as a robot vacuum when it hits a wall
This isn’t true, but even if it were it’s not an excuse to mistreat something
>>4877528
>He free handles to prove that snakes have emotions and can learn to love their owners.
No, he freehandles to show off and try prove he’s in control. If he thought they had emotions then he wouldn’t abuse them by keeping them in tupperware containers without heat or food
>>4877592
>when really they're just used to him.
He hadn’t been bitten because most were half dead. This taipan was new to his collection, so it was still full of energy
