I found this crab fish whatever thing in a small pond/puddle in the Sahara Desert.
The Tassili N'Ajjer National Park in Algeria to be more specific. Roughly here: 26°09'39.5"N 8°36'54.5"E
Our guide an none of the Tuareg who were with us and lived in this area for decades has ever seen a thing like that or knew what it was.
It was around 10cm long and alive.

If anyone knows what it is or where I could find any information regarding this topic or even places where asking might be more appropriate please let me know.

Thanks man. That really looks very similar to the the thing and the habitat matches.

I was just very surprised the find this much life in what is essentially a temporary pond in the desert. There were small fish as well.

Apparently it has rained this summer for the first time in 4 years so things were unusually green in the Wadi.
There were also many dragonfly and you could see the footprints of jackal and mufflon in the sand.

Fish spawn naturally from the dirt in pools of water. Everyone knows this.

There are species of Killifish that lay cyst like eggs that can survive desiccation and these eggs hatch when these temporary watercourses refill. The fish grow and breed in a couple weeks and then die off and you won’t see them again until the next rain.
