I lost some of my affection for them after seeing how mean they are to each other

and that's when they're being nice and just don't straight out bite each other and get in a little brawl.
Raccoons do this to each other too.

there was a big fat one that i saw yesterday waddling up and down my driveway having fun
today he was rolling around in agony because his entire face was filled with porcupine quills
my dad went out and blew it away with a shotgun

They're primarily nocturnal and like to spend a lot of time up in trees.

I had this pumpkin on my stairs for a month or so, decided I'm done with it and cut it in half, left it out thinking the skunks or opossum might enjoy it.. nope they would rather eat dog food and marshmallows. Didn't touch the pumpkin. I put it up by the bird feeders to see if anyone will take some seeds.
