Renting is a humiliation ritual, its insecure housing, and the longer you rent the more you get priced out of ever buying a home

But you're essentially stuck renting unless you have a gigantic income and/or your parents help you out bigly

My sister and his husband have been renting the same house for about 5 years now, and their kids just started school in the area, and they just got notified that the landlord is selling the house, now they have to move, and their kids might have to change schools already.

Their kids are already going to suffer mentally and be damaged for life if they have to change schools.

>My sister and his husband
lmao, HER* husband
>>
>>61427016
Insecure housing is better than being forced to live next to niggers.
>>
>>61427022
And now she's going to live next to niggers. Is she American OP?
>>
>>61427016
Yes.

>be me
>save up for five years to buy house like a big boy
>buy house literally one month ago
>passed inspection with flying carpets
>move in
>detached in law suite has moisture under slab
>found termites and roaches
>needs new electric meter and outlets
>misc other bull shit
>everything costs $3k to fix
Lol kill me. I don’t even want it now.

Having a mortgage sucks more. I am rather homeless on 200 bucks a month than 30 years a slave.
>>
>>61427122
Having a mortgage is preferable to paying rent

With a mortgage, you are investing in an asset
With rent, you are just making your landlord richer
>>
>>61427122
lol like the people holding the mortgage are the ones paying it. renting = pay all expenses + landlord profits. Sorry not sorry but it'll be a 15% increase again new year.
>>
>>61427122
At least with a mortgage you dont have the worry of the landlord wanting to kick you out for whatever reason

When youre renting your life is basically in the hands of another mortal

You could say

>Well if you get sick and cant work anymore and cant pay the mortgage, they'll take ur house

But thats God / the Universe doing that, not some random guy who wants to take profit on his investment
>>
>>61427158
Mortgaging is way better than renting. When you move places every couple years you suddenly have 5 or 6 figures of home equity, only half of which you actually had to pay for.

You are born a peasant, so you will be forced to be a peasant till you put yourself first and do the right thing: Stop being a wage slave.

This is why you always pay for your own inspector
>>
>>61427291
and then you woke up to reality

I just sold a house earlier this year for 60k more than I paid
>>
>>61427158
>>61427291
People keep repeating this without understanding that you don't pay a lot of principal until year 15/30.

In people's minds it's literally:
> apartment: $2000 thrown out
> house: $2000 toward equity

In reality, you will pay 3x the price for your house, and the money is just as thrown away if you move in the first 10-15 years.

Add taxes and fees and you might come out at zero compared to an apartment after 10 years.
>>
>>61429303
In a house you actually have space to work on things. I am constantly working on stuff in my garage. If I was renting an apartment I would have to spend my spare time staring at a tv or computer.
Renting a house is more expensive than a mortgage.
Btw I have a mortgage excel sheet I built that tells me more about my mortgage than the advisors at the bank can tell me.

New houses don't really have garages that fit cars anymore. Not under 500k within 30 minutes of the city in traffic anyway.

But sure, I am comparing a mortgage to basically a passable one-bedroom apartment, maybe two if super lucky.
>>
>>61429128
I did. Also hired second inspector to look at all plumbing and sewer line.

You know how in nature, the weak get killed and eaten? Well, your sister and her husband are the weak ones. Sorry pal, I dont make the rules.
>>
>>61429491
the only people getting poor are the people buying overvalued real estate
not buying your bags
>>
>be renter
>pay usually fair rate for one bedroom
>can move any time

>be home owner
>paying $900k over thirty years for $550k home
>can’t move
>mortgage is already a third of income, not even accounting for property taxes, insurance, utilities, etc.

Renting is only a humiliation ritual if you have a shitty landlord. Honestly, I’d rather rent from Blackstone, landlordism attracts some real skeevy people. You’ll live in a slum, nothing works, nothing gets repaired and they act like they’re doing god’s work.
>>
>>61429303
this is almost correct, but you forgot to include price appreciation as a big pro for mortgages. on the other hand, one could probably get better returns on that down payment by investing it in stocks, crypto, etc.
I think in the end it just depends on each person’s specific situation. how long you plan to stay there, what the mortgage interest rate is, do you have kids, etc.
>>
>>61427113
wooow 3k, that's insane
I'm guessing you meant per item, right?
Right?
>>
>>61427016
>be damaged for life if they have to change schools
No they won't you retard. You just like to dramatize stuff huh, you fucking queer.
>>
>>61427016

Living with parents is infinitely greater than renting when you have kids. This is actually normal worldwide. But for some reason American boomers and gen x are too selfish to share a home with their bloodline.
>>
>>61429905
Yes obviously. Are you retarted?
>>
>>61429128
no most inspectors are just dogshit

>>
>>61430829
define everything, you said everything costs 3k to fix not every item will take 3k.
>>
>>61427016
I rent a 5 bedroom house from a sweet old lady. $450/month for the last 10 years. What are you doing wrong, Anon?
>>
>>61431241
I have a similar situation but I'm about finished with it. Elderly chinese man I rent from isn't able or willing to afford repairs anymore. Place is falling apart. Insistence on necessary repairs is met with obsequious wincing and apologies and "maybe in spring my contractor friend can...". I'm out. That's it. 15 years of cheap rent was enough.
>>
>>61427016
My girlfriend splits the rent, so its not that bad :^)
I'm resentful that even if I do save up enough for a house, I STILL have to pay rent in the form of property tax

>>61429128
>>61431115
>be inspector
>inspect nothing
>pat self on back for a hard days work
How is this even legal? Repair cost should land "inspector" or the company they represent
How do a become an inspector lol
>>
>>61427016
i tried to pay rent for a whole year up front and they denied me kek, oh well ill just keep stacking this bread living with mommy

>>61427113
Anon, if and when I'm old diy septic fails its gonna be anywhere from 15-50k for an engineered septic field...furnance and duct work is 9k. I'm just gonna keep burning wood. Count your blessings. 3k was like a new well pump and septic drain line gone in a blink.
>>
>>61427113
>$3k
Bro I was worried for you there for a moment. I expect 10-100x that
>>
>>61430803
This is something I will do differently for my children. I will let them live with us granted I see they make an effort to save up for a place to live instead of wasting it paying some Jewish landlord profiting from a market that in practice is ironically “rent-seeking" in nature.
>>
>>61433445
I'm renting in Eastern Europe, I've got about 45 sq.m. for $190 a month (power, water, heating, and all other costs included in that). The landlady takes care of all the bills, she bought a ton of heating pellet just the other day and it's a comfy 22 °C in my part of the house (3 °C outside). I've got the entire ground floor to myself, BTW, she's two stories up and she immediately comes whenever there's a problem (leaking pipe etc.)
I can't contain my joy whenever I see her and I am honestly considering to offer that I pay more just because she's so nice to me. I already bought a new fridge and a new washing machine and I'll probably leave both to her when I decide to move. She deserves it, honestly.
>>
>>61434496
what country anon? That sounds very nice.
>>
>>61427016
>Their kids are already going to suffer mentally and be damaged for life if they have to change schools.
I went to over 20 different schools and changed schools several times per year. It made me a better person than you. I know how to make friends anywhere I go. I know how to quickly judge character and immediately make strong connections with good people while avoiding people like you.
>>
>>61431128
>>61433426
$3k EACH you retarded niggers.
>>
>>61429303

This is landlord propaganda. The bank makes its money via the interest you're paying in the beginning but you can circumvent alot of it just by making double or triple payments if you can afford to

Just dumb. Unless you just straight up are completely, broke there's no reason not to immediately stop renting.
>>
>>61435045
and yet youre here on 4chan lmao
>>
>>61427016
TRVKE: you can't escape renting even if you own a house you will never own the land
>>
>>61427113
You dont deserve to own a home
