>>4375694I would assume classical. Ludwig van Beethoven and Johann Pachelbel. Same would probably go for Rei's taste in art and books. Dante Alighieri most likely. Just something about the outworldy yet central to the existence and future of mankind. Some would say Bible, but the question would be: "What was The Bible in The World of Evangelion?". An art piece? Or something alike with the "Lost Sea Scrolls" that Seele used as it's own sort of "Bible". A Talmud more likely considering the similarities hidden in plain sight. All those symbols. Evangelion is a mix of things. If We go by religions "Canon", there is none for Evangelion has it's own "Canon". A world of it's own. What is "Holy" and what is "Evil"?. Anno is japanese. He would mix God and the Devil if he wanted. He's not religious. His works have religion in them. That's how close he came to something "Spiritual". By mixing it in entertainment.

Some follow Rei because they have a "bustle in their hedgerow". Some do because of the "attractiveness" of the non-human side of Rei (religious/spiritual pull). I always interpreted that the two original main heroines of Evangelion were two paths for Shinji to go. The red one always felt like what a man would choose. Just by looking at humanity as a whole. The desire towards the sinuous and forbidden even if that desire is covered in thorns. The TV/Movie Shinji never made a move towards any of them. Just interactions.
