Is going to japan to cosplay at con like Comiket like the ultimate final boss and dream for the average sea gull? Kinda like the Elite 4 for cosplay?
I only ask because I'm now living in Japan and going to Comiket but specifically just to coom.
>>
>>10893648
Eh, I doubt it. Only if you want to be surrounded by a bunch of Japanese men. It's not even a very difficult thing to do if you think about it.
>>
japan has too many riules for cosplay
>>
No, Japan cons are famously miserable affairs and not fun at all.
>>
>>10893674
>>10893673
what the fuck are you talking about? I was just at a Touhou at Tokyo Big Sight a few weeks ago. Its was small but far better in cosplay quality then anything in mutt land and I'm not even a weeb that thinks everything in Japan is magically better. People were fucking wild there. Coomer wise I didn't get laid that day but my buddy did and there was certainly extreme degeneracy at many of the bars, clubs and after parties nearby in Akiharaba/Shibuya where most of the con goers went after 6pm.
Also the whole changing thing was more of a don't annoy people on the train if your in awkward cosplay with props or reveling outfits. I saw a lot of people who didn't care about it.
Nip culture is generally stiff as a board, but when there is a chance to let loose people generally go all out.

The average overweight gull would get absolutely mogged by the local cosplayers in a Japanese con. Most here seethe at the unachievable dream of going to a con here.
>>
>>10893677
That's great anon, it's still wildly different than western cons. Also, Retaisai is a far cry from the sheer volume of people artists, and halls taken by comiket. It's about 10x if not more the attendance of that one. They are fun for sure, but in what direction I think OP is going he's barking up the wrong tree if "specifically just to coom."

> Most here seethe at the unachievable dream of going to a con here.
Most gulls would probably just not care for the price and 1 day of an event compared to something like AX having room parties/raves/etc.
>>
>>10893677
>Most here seethe at the unachievable dream of going to a con here.
what makes it such a difficult thing to attend?
>>
>>10893679
NTA but I am guessing he is referring to flight costs+hotel+time off of work+event+cosplay tickets and all that. Essentially barring a lot of people going to comiket vs. just taking a short flight or drive to a major city in the US/EU for an event being a whole tank of gas in transportation costs.
>>
>>10893677
how the fuck did your friend get laid at Reitaisai of all places?

He was white, wasn't he?
>>
>>10893677
Did you cosplay though? Because there are a fuck ton of rules and comiket itself isn't fun enough by American standards to be worth it. Like yeah, getting your picture taken by jap photographers is a nice brag but that's in exchange for being bored and trapped in lines all day.

Comiket is a meme unless you're an attention whore or there for limited items, japan has a million animanga events that are more fun.

Going to a con there isn't that hard . There are arguably more expensive cons / events that are harder to go to.

A lot of weebs shouldn't expect Comiket to be the regular con experience outside japan because its practically a giant scholastic book fair inside.
>>
Anyways back to what I said earlier. Don't go to Japan events with the expectations of being laid, especially not Comiket. This isn't something like as another anon said, dragoncon, Colossalcon, or someshit. Go for fun, go for the social interaction, go for meeting artists, go for the chaos, go for literally anything but the intention of being a coomer. It will essentially drive people away and you up a wall. Just do what everyone else does, fire up tinder at some event->set search radius 1km->see what pops->follow up on Line. That's the strongest advice I can give you.

To put it simply you have 0, and I do mean 0 chance, of getting laid. It would both be insanely frustrating for you if you're not somewhat versed in Japanese or have any connections.

>>10893725
Some of this, the rules are mostly common sense stuff but there are enough that would draw anyone who is going specifically for cooming away. Unless you know people going to comiket or large events like this it's near IMPOSSIBLE to find or talk with anyone there as everyone is in a hurry. Keep in mind OP these events are only 8hrs, and you are fighting with people scrambling for doujinshi.

>>10893788
>A lot of weebs shouldn't expect Comiket to be the regular con experience
This unless you have some reason to draw people towards you it's nothing like US cons where you can shoot the shit and swap info.
>>
>>10893797
Lol what a bunch of bullshit and clear /cgl/ femcel fud. Sure Comikt is pretty corpoish, but every con here has been a blast and in someway far better because you don't have onlyfans whores trying to promote unless they are part of an official function and people are there to enjoy anime media/sexy cosplay.

On the topic of coomers, I haven't gotten laid at a Japanese con but I have met people at after parties and other events in the area related to the con. Which also I would say (after parties) is most definitely a thing.
If your a tall white guy cosplaying with effort (not crappy costumes) at a Japanese con I gaurentee you will go home at least with a few dozen lines.
I realize that talking about sex makes /cgl/ seethe and I want emphasize that is my intent.
>>
How do I socialize in cons? I always go alone and it would be nice to be able to make friends for the day.
Also how do people get laid in japanese cons? Not that I'll ever go there but I wonder how the cultural differences manifest.
>>
>>10893648

that line anon, that line, well played
>>

> you don't have onlyfans whores trying to promote unless they are part of an official function and people are there to enjoy anime media/sexy cosplay.

You sound like you don't speak japanese because many, many of those girls have fantias on their own or are there to sell their photobooks.
>>
>>10893884
>Oh you poor sweet summer child, many and I do mean many of those girls are often pushing their twitter/line/fantia/personal photo shoots, and so on. The reason you aren't "seeing it" is because you probably don't speak any Japanese or know what to look out for. Just go enjoy being a fat english teacher and fulfill the stereotype that westerners get at these events.
> "I haven't gotten laid at a Japanese con but I have met people at after parties"
If this isn't some weird parody troll posting I don't know how you know all this about comiket if you've yet to ever attend.
>3/10

You can't hide or delete your posts from me
>st go enjoy being a fat english teacher and fulfill the stereotype that westerners get at these events.
Bruh I'm on SOFA as a full time military civilian which is as close as one can get to enjoying the benefits of living in nipland while getting paid boku bucks USD with time to spare to actually tutor English if I want. tl:dr winning the weeb dream.

>>10893874
Its a mix, but most are pretty upfront and no where near as scummy as you see in western cons. There's a clear demarcation for the coomerside/18+ content at Japanese cons if that's your thing. I speak enough Japanese to get by, and the cosplayers have always been upfront if they have an OF/Fantia. Also I don't care because I don't put sex on pedestal and obsess over it like its the end all be all.
>>10893864
I legitimately like non-coomer scifi anime and cosplay. It sells out fast but the animators and creators often sell blu-rays and manga pretty cheaply at cons at least compared to the local book stores. Getting laid is just desert after the main course if it happens. Reitaisai was just a cool little event to checkout I don't even know much about Touhou.
>>
>>10893903
>>10893903
Reitaisai was fun as fuck imo.
>>
>>10893648
why do you assume every weeb here has the same aspiration
>>
>>10893680
Weebs go to Japan all the time. This isn't a "final boss" any more than just going to Japan is.
>>
>>10893755
He looks the same height as the woman walking in the back left
>>
>>10893680
>flight costs+hotel+time off of work+event+cosplay tickets

All of these apply to western cons too except cosplay tickets. The only hurdle japan has with atrending its cons the sky high plane ticket prices and language accessibility if you dont know basic nihongo

Most western i think also dont have the patience and discipline to deal with those carefully organized lines in comiket and the train station rush
>>
>>10893999
What I meant was, the additional cost associated with just getting to Japan. Most people in the US don't generally have to do a 12 hour flight+customs and book additional time off to fly out for it. Where as a con in the US you can basically show up after work on thursday and just take friday off. You're looking at burning at least 4 or more days of time off to go to comiket only
>>
>>10894012
Those costs apply to non local/non us attendees too. I have seen Japanese people on twitter who will spend a few thousand dollars and a week off just to see their favorite MCU actor in some mid size convention.
A lot of people who go to the bigger cons like SDCC, AX, Dragon Con, NYCC have people from all over the world
>>
When I went to comiket I wanted to experience it not sit outside in one spot. There's also the all the trouble with bringing a large costume all the way to japan and back.

When I travel to a US/CA con even if I fly out I'm just there for the con If I'm going all the way to Japan I want to spend a few weeks there.
>>
>>10893754
I hate to be the anon who has to explain it to you but no one in their right mind would be picked up by some westerner. I might be a little drunk after the con but you are shit there is no way a woman would actually agree to be picked up by some bad cosplay. As a woman incan say he would never ever pick meenup.

>>
>>10893648
Japanese cosplay kind of sucks. You can only cosplay in certain areas and you're flooded by horny shit photogs trying to get up skirt shots. You can't enjoy the con on your cosplay because Japanese cons are glorified art dealing rooms where nothing happens (they don't really have panels, raves, room parties, industry guests, etc.)

All the "cosplayers" buy their shit from China and only dress up for attention or to sell their sexy photography books. It's miserable, everything people hate about American cons post 2014 turned up to 11.

I went to comiket once and even though I how a lot of stuff, it really felt like a waste compared to what I'm used to in the West.

Honestly Japanese cosplay sucks ass. They don't make their cosplays and most of the culture surrounds women with daddy issues or rebelling wearing barely anything and acting retarded. Most of them only go to advertise their fatina/booth/modeling photosets.

There are probably decent cosplay events but Japanese culture is so rotten and focused on consumerism and aesthetics that the only time people get together at big events is for the reasons I mentioned above. And I've visited Japan several times to see Japanese friends. Most fun I had was leaving the con and going to a bar to drink and chat with my friends and a few congoers.

>>10894122
>pic was related it's you I just wish we could stop having so many fucking sex threads about cooming
Mods/jannies are useless. That's why this board's posts have dropped dramatically, jannies and worked mods lets cooming retards push all the women away and fill the board with bait and bullshit. I long for the days of 2008-2012 when this board was genuinely enjoyable and I'd check it everyday, go to meetups, talk about our favorite series. Before being a retarded coomer became most of the sites only goal in life.
>>
>>10894353
>they don't really have panels, raves, room parties, industry guests, etc
Wow. I knew better than to expect room parties or raves, panels seemed kind of iffy. But not even guests? And I used to think that was one of the biggest draws of going to Japanese conventions. Now it sounds like even more of a waste than I already figured it to
>>
>>10894355
Guests show up but they are normally in a corporat booth often just "being there" as a prop maybe saying a few lines here and there. Comiket is mostly a giant vendor hall where you're going to buy doujinshi works from your favorite artists, music creators, get exclusive promo merch, maybe see some sneak peaks of anime before they are up on YT and nico nico.

>Now it sounds like even more of a waste than I already figured it to
If you're doing like OP it will be, if you have friends going really into japanese merch/porn, and do have some cosplay it can be really fun. The evens surrounding it and some of the specials at clubs is worth it for the lead up/after party
>>
What are some examples of really good Japanese cosplay? My googling sucks, so who are the top crafters? All I ever see are pics of Genshinshit and maid outfits.

Forget Comiket. It’s nice to have a line of photogs taking your picture for free but other than that it’s boring. A big porn market.
Go to World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, usually a week before Summer Comiket. I mean it’s still not like a convention but there’s at least a stage with cosplay performers and orchestra and a few cosplay related booths. The main draw is still standing and walking around in costume and talking to other cosplayers but it’s way more fun than jam-packed Comiket.

Worst part is it’s in the hottest stickiest uglyass greyass city in Japan during the hottest time of the year. I unfortunately live here so I don’t have to travel but it I’d say it’s very worth it to highway bus or shinkansen here for it.
>>
>>10894448
Is it more fun with speakers too? I don't just want to see a book/video market either.
>>
>>10895296
I do a fair bit of comiket and world cosplay summit as well as some other smaller ones here on Japan. You're not going to get speakers or panels like it in the usa. You might have some voice actors or developers or artists show up to talk for 10 minutes promoting some worm they are dealing with but that's it. World cosplay summit is a bunch of fun but so is comiket, just depends what you're looking for
>>
>>10894438
>>10894353
How do you even get to th point of having japanese friends and going to party there
Besides being really expensive
>>
>>10895432
How do you make friends at other places. Some people also work here ya know. Others just find people in circles or other events and share info. Japan's expensive but if you're going to Japan some people probably will align it to a cosplay event for fun.
>>

No I live in LA flights round trip are like 700-800 dollars round trip to narita. I stay in a capsule style hostel for about 20 dollars a night. So I am just staying a week for comiket. It's about the same price as a hotel and flight to otakon in DC and I get to see Japan kek.

This anon has some solid advice, my suggestion would be do nagoya world cosplay summit and then hit up comiket after. You can do a willer bus for about ~30 bucks round trip if you book early, APA's close to the even are ~50 a night, the mood is chill and fun. I plan to return since it's probably the most fun cospaly wise I've had and comiket while fun is a never ending line of people wanting pictures. I would suggest using >>>/trv/ for questions related to flights, booking, etc. Hope you can make it, we all gotta make the anime dream come true

I've actually been an exhibitor at a few Japanese cons, while working for a figure/merch company. Guests and industry do hang out after hours but it's nothing like the parties at US cons, usually just everybody going out for a big group dinner or hanging out at the corporate office for pizza and beer if the con is local.

>>10894448
>Worst part is it’s in the hottest stickiest uglyass greyass city in Japan during the hottest time of the year.
I was just gonna say this. I did WCS with my company (press pass shown because I went last-minute and the exhibitor passes had already been printed) and we had an outdoor display, and it was fucking brutal, I was wearing a baseball cap and sweat was soaked all the way to the end of the brim within like half an hour. Fun event otherwise though.
Also, speaking of porn events, Cosholic is fucking nuts, my colleagues took me there after Comiket and I've never seen anything like it. I highly recommend it to all coomers as long as you can behave yourself and not ruin it for the rest of us Gaijin.
