Anons how do I get over my irrational fear of buying more than one of the same merch of my characters? My second bag I'm working on the fandom is still semi-underground but my husbando is the fan favorite so his merch is few but expensive. I just can't train myself to justify spending $15 each on a single strap. How do y'all do it?
>>
>>9556049
>I just can't train myself to justify spending $15 each on a single strap.

Then this hobby probably isn't for you.
>>
>>9556050
I want it to be rip. Wish my merch was more attainable.
>>
>>9556049

Well, >>9556050 is right but try it this way.

Make a budget for you bag.
Allocate the funds- some for the bag itself, the canbadge/buttons, straps, pins, charms, whatever

Plan out your bag as specifically as possible- how many straps? Where? Do you plan to handmake any items?

So, if you have a hard time justifying the straps, try to get them used or use less of them. Buttons are probably the cheapest.
>>
>>9556052
$15 per strap sucks but it's not the worst. Be glad you're not like the FGO anon where the straps were double that.

If you want this hobby to be for you but are stingy with your money, budget and save up a cash pool for only merch so when you finally have a decent cushion built up you don't have to feel so bad spending it. Even just putting away $20-40 per pay check will give you a nice little spending money at the end of the month. Like the other anon said, being tight fisted with money and itabagging don't go hand in hand.
>>
Could we work on a new up to date list of places to get base bags with no shopping service?
>>
>>9556077
If you have any suggestions, go ahead and list them. The new FAQ in OP's post lists a few already.
>>
>>9556069
>>9556071
Thank you anon (s?)! Official merch is just hard to come by in the first place so it's a matter of just kicking myself into gear to get it. I have a decent start right now but I may need to add alt characters to fill up a decent-size bag and I wanted to avoid it. I always forget buttons are a thing???

>tfw your bags become wall shrine material in the off season

I'm thinking about framing some clear files as well and hanging them up. Any one have tips on how to hang towels? I've got two and I'm not sure how to hang them aside from maybe trying push pins straight into the wall?
>>
>>9556071
>>9556106
FGO/Gilgamesh anon here. I second making a budget and adhering to it every month (although I'm bad about it because my grip on my wallet is loose for my husbando, with his recent rate up in FGO NA I'm severely broke, and that's not counting my amiami packages which are 90% him. Learn from my mistakes. Don't be like me.).

It make take longer to finish it, but it'll be a fun long-term project and getting a few packages every month is super nice! Also, I suggest being constantly on the lookout for good deals on auctions. I've gotten lucky with some merch for really cheap.
>>
>>9556035
Does anyone know where to find the bag on the left with the ribbon trim? I've been looking for one like it forever!
>>
>>9556298
It's on taobao but I don't have the link saved, sorry anon.
>>
>>9556131
How big are the towels? You could always put them in a poster frame, and put multiple in there. And then maybe decorate the extra space with clear files or something if fake flowers or likewise aren't your thing.

Work in progress JJ bag. Got more stuff recently so need to figure out how to place it. I'm thinking about putting the Canadian flag as a backdrop for the charms. Or might that be too noisy?
>>
>>9555731
Was there any specific characters you wanted from YOI? I have quite a bit to sell off and I'm willing to go pretty low since I'm too lazy to make a post in the sale fb page.

>>9556049
I wish my husbando's straps were only $15. On a serious note though, I would go with the other anon's advice to budget, save and slowly buy over time. Sometimes there's more gratification to your bag when you feel like you've worked extra hard and had the patience of a saint for it.

>>9556131
I love this so much! I'm always terrified of leaving holes in my walls since I tend to change my mind often on placements. Why not go for some clear command hooks and those small black paper binders to hang them with?
>>
>>9556414
Be noisy! That's JJ STYLE
>>
>>9556414
It's looking alright so far but I would trim the washing tape cleanly on the big charm, it's very noticeable.
>>
>>9556603

Random pic I just grabbed but they're those banner style towels so I'd have to hang them vertically. I thought under my figure display but they're a bit long so maybe to the right of it?

>>9556430
I've actually got command hooks holding my bags up and my two plushies! Command strips for the display box and poster.
Have you got a pic of these paper binders? I'm not sure what they are.
>>
>>9556651
*maybe to the left of it

Can't direction right now it seems.
>>
>>9556414

You could also throw in some crowns or such to get at the "King JJ" theme, that could be cute, if you want to add visual interest that way.

The classic canadian way to embellish a bag is a single smallish rectangular flag patch, imo. (search "american backpack" and then "canadian backpack" to see the contrast I mean)

>>9556414
Using the flag would be kinda strange I feel, so using crown embellishments like >>9556659 suggested would be a good idea I think. Also I'm disappointed I haven't seen anyone use the Canadian Tire logo in any of their JJ bags? Fake asses.
>>
>>9556710
As a Canadian I agree with >>9556659
We use mostly small flags and red/white. Try just a simple maple leaf instead?
>>
>>9556803
As an eastern Canadian, needs more Tim's.
>>
What is the average practical price to sell rubber straps? I recently bought a box set but I'm only keeping half so I'll be selling the rest soon. Does $8 sound like too much? They're official and will be new when they reach me. I just don't want too seem like I'm scalping, but don't want to cheat myself either.
>>
>>9556813
It depends how much the box cost total and how many straps came in it. Don't people usually divide the price/number of strap and add like $1 or so?
>>
>>9556816
Is that what they do? I feel kind of stupid for not thinking about that. Thanks anon!
>>
>>9555399
Honestly, it could probably be lessened if the bags were made with a thicker vinyl.
>>
>>9556430

Anyone have any insp saved for custom clear-window bags, particularly with some design affixed over part of the clear window? I noticed the part of the google doc about removing designs from windows, but not about adding one on purpose. I'm thinking of getting a round one and styling it as a pie lattice such that the rest of the merch is the filling, but I'm worried it'll just look stupid or messy.

I reorganized my bag for Japan Expo, added new badges and replaced all the pictures by better quality ones, and I like it better now. Thanks to an enormous stroke of luck, it turns out that illustration on the 30th anniversary exclusive trading card that was given out at JE was of him (I would have bet on Cloud or Lightning since Square Enix is pushing them pretty hard, but I'm not complaining) so of course I looted a bunch, and now I need to rearrange it again to make a 4th card fit !

Nitpicks are totally welcome. I'll move the flower, it didn't fall but it would look better up and to the left I think. I'll see if the safety pin can go through it, it's a foam board insert, but it might. Eventually when I'm 100% happy with it I'll probably just sew everything on. Thank you!

Nayrt but the silver and gold colors are both on aliexpress as well as the pink, blue and black. The only thing missing is the mint, right?

Either way, it sucks but that's all I can say. They had bootlegs of this bag the same week as the full release. ToAlice primarily makes garments anyway so it's not like this is a huge financial hit, but more of a massive insult.

Someone did a proper review mentioned last thread. The quality of the plastic used looks a hell of a lot nicer than my disgusting fake one (which feels like bondage shit). In other words the fake is better for what we want them to do.

Another thing that makes me think they branded generic bags is how inconsistent they seem about their own advertised features, like whether there is one d-ring at the top or two. Fakes also seem to vary with this. I'm especially curious about the metallic versions, since those look most identical materials-wise to me.

Sorry if this seems too spoonfeed-y, but can anyone point me in the right direction of a medium sized cute bag with a lot of color options (yellow preferably) that DOESN'T have a glitter window?

I've been searching anywhere I can think (eBay, aliexpress/alibaba/some taobao listings but having trouble looking deeper, wego's official site, some zakkamart stuff) but I'm having very little luck.

The closest I can find to what I'd want is this eBay listing but I'm hesitant to spend so much on a eBay listing (if I had a way to confirm it's official wego, I wouldn't mind splurging, but yeah.)

What you're looking for is the vivid heart bags on the official WEGO site. The pastel ones have glitter in them even through official WEGO, the vivid ones do not. Easy mistake to make and I don't blame you for missing it.

It's linked in the FAQ but I'll put it here for you too -

Your ebay listing DOES say that it ships from Japan, though, so it might be legit.

It pisses me off so much when people come into an expensive hobby and get upset because they can't afford it. It sucks yes, but you wouldn't go to the royal ascot in a shirt and jeans then complain about your "rights". I'm just getting flashbacks to all those people who couldn't be arsed to save up for a BJD then bought bootlegs until the companies went under.

It's ok to not be able to afford a hobby, it really is. I can't afford EGL but do I go around blaming my country for me not being able to afford pretty dresses? Hell no. Of course I emphasize with those who can't afford it, but just pick a character who has cheap merch. Make a smaller bag, stalk preorders, do some overtime at work. FFS there's a girl on my Facebook who works in surgery and puts a little away each month for hobbies. Even those in high paying jobs can't always afford everything.

I wanted to get a black Alice bag but alter a lot of the stuff on it to crimson red (ribbons, straps, replace bow with husbandos symbol)

I hate knockoff bags but I'm not sure if I want to throw down so much money on an official bag only to fuck it up. I have exp in sewing, but have never worked with bags before so I'm very adament about it..

Should I just deal with getting a knock off or...? I'll probably at least try to snag the official mint or blue hopefully before they close orders

>also getting real sick and tired of seeing wego heart knockoff bandwagoners try to pull this >>9561453 >>9560443 shit
>>
>>9562177
Some people tend to get one knock off but buy an official to not customize/rip apart/puncture holes through. People did this with the heart bags and I honestly don't really see the harm, especially since you intend to buy two official bags anyway.

I'm personally really cautious about doing anything permanent/harmful to my more expensive bases, but I have one knock off to just do whatever I want to.
>>
Do you decorate your bags on the outside or does it ruin the bag? I'm making an idolm@ster bag and every other im@s bag seems to be decorated (mostly heartbags) and while I think it looks great I'm also worried about ruining my bag
>>
Would it be silly to have two different colored bags for the same waifu? For example, I could go with white or pink, but I plan on making multiple bags and I'm worried if I do two different colored bags it will look weird?
>>
>>9562204
Lots of people make multiple bags and it doesn't always matter what color they all are unless you plan to wear them all together.

>>9562203
>does gluing and sewing hurt pleather/canvas/vinyl
Consider what you're doing to the bag and what type of bag it is. This is mostly a common question. Canvas can be sewn/punctured and has the ability to self heal (minimally visible damage/holes when fabric is rubbed etc) while faux leather and vinyl do not self and will leave obvious marks when sewn/punctured and vinyl may even tear. The glue may rip off the top layer of the faux leather or it may melt/warp the vinyl depending on the glue. If using something like glue dots, damage will be minimal but decorations may not be as secure.
>>
>>9557690
they're cute what are they from?
>>
My middleman told me toAlice bags aren't being restocked. Throw me your favorite bootleg link. Looking for silver and mint in particular. Thanks!
>>
>>9562203

It just depends on what you want to do and how permanent you want it to be. I used E6000 to put my base trim down then hot glue for the trim on top of the trim. This was on a small Wego crossbody. My other two bags (a Wego shoulder bag and Zakkamart shoulder bag) my alterations were done to the base and not the vinyl. I basically made a cover for my base and kinda tacked that in place, then sewed on all my decorations.

If you don't want to alter your bag permanently, consider adding things like bows to the straps or attaching a beaded chain. You can always just focus on the insert decorations, too.

Cute, I had a hard time choosing between blue and silver. I like to wear grey more though, so I got silver. I'm looking at blue fabrics with cat prints for a lining.

I've found 30+ pieces of official merch in the last week that fit my criteria of "happy and/or human Alphonse, but no CoS" not including a couple additional Xiao Mei and Mei Chang pieces, pie charms, flowers, and cat charms. Japanese secondhand sites, vague keywords, and patience are the way to go. There's an Alphonse shaped phone charger out there if you look hard enough.

Two other interesting things I found are official pre-inked stamps of his :3 face that I plan to use for custom buttons. If I have any space whatsoever left, I'm going to make large badges from the final chapter, there's several lovely panels of him in it, and coloring them specifically with my bag in mind could tie the whole thing together palette wise.

Are they blessing the Family Mart with chicken skewers?
>>
>>9559774
I'm not sure, it was a quick idea that came to my mind last weekend, I guess I'll put it at the top of the heart frame but I'm afraid it will look awful... Time to do some tests then!

>>9563381
That's such a great idea, thanks! But if I recall well, isn't To Alice bags going to be discontinued or something...? I also can't find the mint one on Aliexpress (yea I know they sell knockoffs but they look good enough, so I really don't mind if they're fakes).

Funny enough I actually just got a set myself a couple days ago, I see it pop up on ebay for $35+ every now and again, and finally caved because I'm afraid people will jack up the prices since it's sorta rarish but I only really wanted B&R

I willing to sell you Harlee/Joker together for $20 shipped if thats who you're looking for (and in the US)

Are you also making a Bman bag anon? It's nice to know somebody else it too!
I'm eagerly awaiting the second Kawaii strap set of entire Batfam the straps are seriously cute, I'm currently working on a Robin centric and Red Robin bag! (which may or may not turn into TimKon bag)

>>9562461 here. Do you actually have a place to get this bag, or did you just see the picture? Because WEGO discontinued them like half a year ago, and the only place you'll find them is secondhand. The thank you mart bag might be a good substitute, though I've heard its materials aren't that great

>>9563441

>>9564035
Anon they said they wanted Robin right in their post. Try reading what you're replying too next time.
>>
>>9562396
>>9562627
I have them both, the WEGO bag is much nicer construction and less wrinkly in general so it comes off as cuter, and it's storage capacity is a little bit bigger. Window size is about the same. Both are standard sized backpacks not mini backpacks, so they don't look awkward with how tall they are.
>>
>>9564087
Fuck me you're right, Im dumb and tired sorry anons

Harley is cute but goddamn I hate Joker, hopefully they'll sell on FB as a set
>>
i found someone selling on a bunch of their unwanted merch left over from boxsplits over twitter today, got some things i've been looking for for a long time for like 50 dollars w/ shipping!
i think i almost have enough stuff, just waiting for that circular chain-strap bag on taobao that an anon posted earlier to release in white. so excited to put it all together
>>
>>9564035
yeah i'm just looking for robin right now, cool that someone else is making a batman bag though!
i'm working on a red hood one, and i know the robin strap is likely dick but him and jason have the same uniform, so it still works
>>
>>9564106
Ahh I just had the same thing happen but from a fb sales instead! Was missing a good chunk of what they were selling and I'll also be getting duplicates of my favorite acrylic charm of all time. Today has been a good day for us!
>>
Gulls I know people posted some before but I can't find them. Does anyone have any ~*Aethetic*~ bags saved? The ones with chains, flowers, rosettes etc., generally they're really fancy looking and make use of characters with limited merch? I wanna go full shrine on mine but I need some inspiration
>>
@the girl I saw walking around the Bristol Renn Faire today with the mint itabag

I saw you, but was working and could not approach nor make out what characters you had. I only want you to know that mine was in my garb box backstage. You were not alone on this day

Why don't you just do your own orders? Even if you have to do a box split yourself/just sell off the others or look on used goods sites.
>>
>>9564536
Hooker sounds funnier t b h

And I'm still starting out on this bag, figured Id try and grab everything that's left over if possible and if someone else has to deal with the shitfest that is group orders then Id rather that. Its easier to deal with than having people flake out on me last minute (which happened for years when i ran taobao orders).

Does anyone have a link to this bag or something similar on Ali? I see it on Taobao all the time, but I need it a little sooner than Tao can provide.
>>
>>9564585
That picture looks closer to an actual swimmer tote. Unfortunately I haven't seen it anywhere except on taobao myself

>>9564542
I guess go with >>9564584 and see what they have or consider used goods sites like otamart. There's more places in the FAQ.
>>

>>

Hibiki, the sales group is saturated with CG but I haven't gotten around to getting into it yet to invest in the merch.
>>
What's the general opinion on making itabags with multiple characters from different series on the same bag? I know that kind of runs counter to the idea of a mobile character shrine but I wonder if it would look alright if they followed a theme of sorts.

Basically I want to make a bag for my webcomic husbandos but webcomic merch is incredibly limited and there's no fan merch market at all for most of them. I could print and back pictures myself and buy duplicates but when you're looking at characters that have like 1-2 pieces of merch total I wonder if I couldn't just make a general "webcomics" bag with all my favorites.

Does that sound terrible? How would you go about doing it? I was thinking if I buy a bag in a neutral color and then give each character their own little space I could give it a sort of patchwork look. But maybe that would look like shit. Not sure.
>>
>>9564692
Anyone not familiar with the webcomics wouldn't get it and assume you've just got a con/tumblr bag but if you love them, do it. Just get ready to explain your theme to everyone to justify it being an itabag.
>>
>>9564692
Buy a small bag for each of them and daisychain them when you wanna wear them all together?
>>
>>9564692
It might look too busy? I've seen colour coded bags before, like all red-heads for example, which can work quite well but I'm assuming they're all different?

Might be better just to knock up some badges and where them on the strap of a messenger bag?
>>
>>9564585
It's on Ebay but marked up to hell
>>
>>9564692
I personally would just do as >>9564740 said, it's easier and smaller bags are significantly easier to fill, even if it's just a few things. It would be better than having a larger bag, struggling to decide on a color for them all, and trying to find a way to harmonize all the different aspects of each character so the bag doesn't look odd.

All I can truly think is if you just did multiples of what's available since that's super common and easy enough when a character only has one or two pieces of merch individually.
>>
>>9564692
Rebel and make a totally wicked rainbow effect bag
>>
>>9564740
I don't know what you were picturing when you said to daisychain them but for some reason my mind immediately jumped to something like pic related. An itabag bandolier. It's just tacky and stupid enough to be tempting, if I can figure out how to string them together tightly enough.

But regardless of how I arrange them I think you and >>9564833 are right, and starting with smaller bags for single characters may be better. I don't know why I didn't think of that honestly, I guess my mind always jumps to big extravagant displays when I think of itabags. It'd give me a lot of cute functional bags along the way too!

Thanks gulls. Time to trawl for tiny bag bases.

>>9564842
This would be neat too if I could pull it off with enough decorations to keep solid color blocks. Might be a good excuse to commission art for buttons in certain palettes.

I really want to now. It's such a goofy idea. Realistically it'll take me quite a while to build up to it, but if it ever happens you bet I'll be posting that monstrosity here first.

The problem I'm running into is that there's not that many SMALL small base bags to choose from. Pic related is probably the closest I've found to what I want and even it's a bit big to be able to bandolier 4 or 5 together comfortably. Also don't like that I'd have to insert a hard backing to make it functional as a real purse and also fuck with the straps when it comes time to combine. It might be the best I can get though.

Are there any smaller bags that you guys have seen around? Or bags around that size but with clip/detachable handles? I wonder if there are better keywords to search for.

I have the A4 size and their quality is pretty solid. Definitely like them better then Salus since the vinyl on Salus messenger bags tend to wear and tear easily. The pleather material feels pretty nice and smooth. I really like the canvas insert that it comes even if it's pretty plain. Putting a cute fabric cover over it solved that problem though

The acrylic charm close to the centre gets a bit lost with the busy background. I'd recommend taping over the back with something to make it stand out more. And I think the little licence plate looking charm getting cut off looks a bit awkward. But otherwise, All Might is looking all right!

Oh these are not very good lol

I can understand if you like that kind of thing to use them for like jewelry and whatever, but for you bag it's just... There are better ways to DIY stuff for your honey. I guess it really depends on if it's something exactly like in your picture, of if they actually made something that looks nice/works well because they have more experience with resin. I don't enjoy the letters inside the resin for bags (or for anything really), I just think it looks tacky in a grade school way.

Characters in resin can be done well but I just don't think the common "Resin Etsy Crafts" style is the way to do it.
