Are we having another this year? A bit early but seems some other boards are planning and I don't know if the last organiser stepped down.
>>
Ill be on board for this. Ill make a throwaway email after work.
>>
>>9624803
Yeah we should get on this pretty soon... last year we started too late imho and it got pretty messy.
>>
>>9624803
How does this work ?
>>
Considering the amount of people that got their gifts in April last year, better to start early than late. The organizer from last year wasn't the best, but with a little more moderation the general idea of filling out the forum and whatnot I stand behind. Really we need to think of a better solution to grinching though, and have more strict deadlines.
>>
>>9625691
form* not forum
>>
>>9624816
Alright, got an email. It's my first year actually participating, desu.
Got a good paying job so I won't have to worry about grinching someone due to lack of funds.
>>
>>9625735
>I won't have to worry about grinching someone due to lack of funds
the fact that you even had the idea of doing this is why i'm always hesitant to join. people feel entitled to participate in things like this, and then grinch people saying "oh b-but it's not my fault! it was an accident i accidentally didn't have money for it!" if you don't have money don't join.
anyways before getting ready to throw an email here, we need to know if it's even happening, and if someone is even going to organize it. usually it happens by filling out questionnaires on those google survery things desu

>the fact that you even had the idea of doing this is why i'm always hesitant to join

What is reading comprehension?
I wanted to join but I purposefully didn't to avoid even the possibility of grinching someone.
How does me intentionally avoiding something that could end badly for someone else make you hesitant to join?
No where did I even consider joining with that possibility in mind.
>>
>>9625809
nayrt but i think the fact that you mentioned the "possibility of grinching someone" as if it were a factor that you couldn't control is what's causing the miscommunication here

like why even bring it up that way
>>
>>9625809
chill Einstein. I said people, not targeting you.
>I won't have to worry
pretty much implies that you would have or were thinking about joining, but with worry, with lack of funds.
>How does me intentionally avoiding something that could end badly for someone else make you hesitant to join?
people have the same idea as you, the difference is they act on it because they feel entitled to participate.
>No where did I even consider joining with that possibility in mind.
yes, but you mentioning it just reminded me of all the people that do.
>>
>>9625811
nayrt but it made sense. they didn't join because they were afraid they wouldn't have the funds to follow thru. wish more people would do that

anyway, didn't join last year because I was trying to save and I have a bad habit of spending too much on these things. I missed it though, so I'll try to have more set control lol
>>
I was one of the people that ended up waiting until April for my gift because my SS chose to take on 6 gifts and didn't have the money for it. It kind of ruined the fun for me, but if this is organized better this year I'd be in to try again.
>>
It'd be a good idea to start it early, as a poorfag who wants to do it, it would be nice to put some money to the side to buy an anon some burando
>>
>tfw your the one who started this thread and forgot about it
>comes back to see half the replys are anons fighting already
>mfw.jpeg
Anyway, nice to see people would be up for it, I can't organise but I know the organiser last year passed off a grinch list to someone.

>>9625833
I think a limit on gifts is better for this year, seeing a lot of brunches anons in april wasn't the greatest.

>>9625855
Same I could save and be able to afford a better gift than last year, which was just an assortment of things I managed to grab in a hurry.
>>
with how much people are talking about money, how much are people expecting?
most secret santas I've been a part of have been like 20-40 dollars max, but this is sounding like people are expecting full brand pieces
>>
>>9625878
tbf you can get brand for those prices on the second hand market.
Hell, I just got a really nice attp blouse for $9
>>
>>9625878
iirc there were different price ranges people could sign up for? i did a few different SS last year so maybe i'm wrong, but i think signing up for a price range would be better than having a broad default range.
>>
>>9625879
>>9625882
I guess I'm fine as long as a range is established
I'm not spending more than like 40-50 dollars on someone to have them bitch about me not buying them a new jsk or something
>>
I'd really be interested in joining because I missed last year!

>>9625878
I remember price ranges going from cards to like 10-30 dollars then 30-50, 50-100, etc.

Last year there were different price brackets, including $10-15, $20-30, $40-50, and $50+. These price ranges also did not include packaging or shipping costs. People generally had their gift value at the upper limit of the bracket, and it was actually kind of common to go over the suggested value, which was really nice. I had no problems managing 4 Santas, and received brand pieces or accessories in 3/4 of my gifts. Honestly though, I'm not picky and don't really care if I get brand, as I listed a lot of interests and there were plenty of cute handmade or offbrand gifts.

On another note, please don't sign up unless you know what you're getting into, and be honest with your budget/ hobbies. Last year we had someone who was not into lolita but who wanted to buy gifts for lolitas, and someone ended up getting hairbows that were kind of meant for toddlers. He was really nice about sending make up gifts, but things were kind of messy. On the flip side, some people were only able to shop locally and this got some people freaking out about not getting gifts related to their interests, but all of the gifts were very nice and well over the price bracket.
>>
>>9625968
I was thinking that maybe we could have gulls list 10-15 things that they need/want. Be it accessories to match x coord or just looking for things in y color/style/cut/size, or looking for a kind of make up.
>>
>>9625805
I've run secret Santas for big groups for a few years. I'd be willing to organize this one if you all would like, assuming the previous coordinator has definitely stepped down. I've been on this board for a few years and lolita for longer.

Reply if you have any information.
>>
>>9625975
>>9625968
It would probably also be smart to limit one or two gifts per full specifically so people don't get grinched, even if it is with best intent
>>
>>9625968
so people aren't "expected" to go over, but really "it's very common" means people will bitch if you don't get them something expensive?
>>
>>9625977
Last year for White Day we experimented with a white list for people- those who passed the Grinch Check were allowed to do more than one gift, and those who were new to it could only do one. Not sure what happened to those who were considered grinches though.
>>
>>9625987
No, not really, and nice doesn't have to mean expensive. It just seemed a lot of people got excited and ended up going over budget because they wanted to get the perfect gift. Of course this was more common in the higher price brackets too. The vast majority of people were grateful recipients.
>>
>>9625994
Grinches could still sign up for the card exchange, and then if they get enough positive feedback be allowed onto the white list for the next gift exchange. The issue would be keeping track of these different lists since all these events are organized by different people.
>>
>>9626198
>Grinches could still sign up for the card exchange
imo they shouldn't be allowed to do this. i have no pity or feel any obligation to allow grinches to ever participate in any similar even again.
>>
I really want to participate again, but I just have such a sour taste in my mouth... I got grinched during both SS and the following White Day. In SS, my $50+ gift I sent was never posted by what the group mutually realized was a grinch and I worked incredibly hard to get them pieces relevant to their interests, and even hand-drew a /cgl/ themed starbucks card for the mix. Another recipient really obviously didn't care for the brand piece I had picked out for her. My $50+ in return got me things that were way too small for my height, not to mention incredibly threadbare and poor quality... I wish I could be excited, but I can't find anything positive to say about the experience. No one seemed to appreciate the pieces I gave, and the pieces that I *did* receive weren't even wearable...
>>
>>9626229
Oh anon I'm sorry you went through that, I hope you get a better match this time.
>>
>>9626229
Sorry this happened to you anon! I know people were discussing making another group with the people who got grinched/extremely poor gifts to exchange with each other. Sad that plan fell through.
>>
>>9626206
Agreed. In my eyes, grinching is at the same level of scamming since you're not sending something you promised to and hurting someone by doing so. I wouldn't give a scammer a second chance, and therefore I wouldn't give someone who grinched one either.
>>
>>9626234
Yeah. The White Day grinching sorted itself out re: sending gifts to grinched gulls (at least for me), but not SS. A part of me wonders if my list of interests had anything to do with my grinching? Maybe I shouldn't say that I wear masculine j-fash styles? Maybe SS is better for people who are more into lolita and not primarily cosplayers? I do feel like there's a real discussion to be had here re: what kind of things are better/worse to see on a wish list, but maybe my double grinching was just a coincidence and I'm looking to put a reason to it
>>
>>9626247
Since this board does have a lot of cosplayers, I feel like they shouldn't be excluded. Maybe there should be sub groups, and have people interested in cosplay to be matched, and people interested in lolita to be matched. I can definitely see why it would be more difficult if you were matched with someone with no similar interests, but it still was no excuse for them to grinch you!
>>
>>9626247
wait, so you're going to exclude half the board because you want this to be a special snowflake lolita only thing?
>>
>>9626272
>what is reading comprehension
They literally said that they aren't a lolita, and it crossed their mind that it could have been because of that that they got grinched.
>>
>>9626276
who are you quoting?

they also said that they think maybe cosplayers should get left out of SS in the future.
>>
>>9626277
>because you want this to be a special snowflake lolita only thing?
Yes, because that was exactly their reasoning. Not because they stated they were grinched and questioned whether it was because most of the people who participated were lolita and had nothing to give people with other interests. They had a good reason to spark the discussion of wish lists/interests.
>>
>>9626247
I don't think it's a lolita vs cosplayers thing- that's the whole point of matching people. But maybe it's worth discussing what cosplayers would like to receive. Lolitas obviously want stuff for their coords, but what's an obvious cosplay gift? A gift card to their local fabric and craft store?
>>
>>9626294
I figure most cosplayers just want things from certain series or games
>>

I was one of the santas from last year with 6 giftees that ended up sending out my gifts a little late due to some unforseen stuff happening in my life. My gifts were pretty well thought out and I hope everyone liked them all. Santagull said I wouldn't be blacklisted, but not whitelisted earlier. I'm free to paticipate. As much as I'd love to treat many lolitas, I'm just going to spoil one gothic lolita okay with handmade this year as a precaution.
>>
>>9626272>>9626277

I must have worded it poorly. I'm primarily a cosplayer myself. I was wondering if that had anything to do with my high grinch rate. I didn't say or imply anything about leaving us out of future SS events.

>>9626297
I know on my list, I suggested wigs, gave my upcoming cosplay list, sizing in both mens and womens, as well as suggestions for makeup (even giving my foundation brand/number so they knew what skin tone I had if they wanted to get something that would be flattering.)

I don't know about other cosplayers, but things like base wigs, base shoes, accessories to a costume, or even circle lenses from a wishlist or something all seem like potential gifts.
>>
>>9626318
i guess as a lolita, the hardest thing about shopping for some of the things you've mentioned (like base wigs and base shoes) would require us to see the potential in something for you... and when it comes to cosplay, that can go awry if what we buy can't be of use. so without very specific links/statements like "i need x's wig pls" i would have a hard time buying for a cosplayer who is only interested in cosplay materials.

hopefully that makes sense. with someone as fashion as their primary interest it can just kind of be like "here is a cute thing to put on your body hopefully it goes with whatever you have"
>>
I feel like last one was pretty well organised, the signup form provided me with plenty of info on my giftees and the price brackets were good. The issues with grinches and lateness need to be sorted out somehow though.

Whoever organises this year should utilise the whitelist from last year at least.
>>
Weren't people matched by their interests though? All my SS were into the same jfash as me.... were any cosplayers paired with jfash enthusiasts?
>>
>>9626361
I was a cosplayer who's also lowkey into gyaruo and VK style and I got matched with someone seriously into himekaji, and only collected brand pieces. It was incredibly hard to shop for her when her style and general aesthetic was as opposite as they come to my own, not to mention being more of a cosplayer than a jfash enthusiast.
>>
>>9626363
>only collected brand pieces
This was likely the bigger problem.
Demanding "brand only" should be something you shouldn't be allowed to do in secret santas.
That's the mark of an entitled cunt.
And this is coming from a lolita.
>>
my white day giftee was like out of state or in another country when i sent my gift. i never heard from them. :(
>>
>>9626363
Aw, that sucks. That's so rude to leave such a narrow list of choices. Maybe there should be a minimum of 5 or so interests that people could choose from to make it easier to shop for.
>>
>>9626369
>>9626363

I mean, given this a cosplay and j-fash board, I don't think it's so crazy to expect someone to list out a j-fash as their interest and expect to get a j-fash gift. I agree that's it's courteous to list some easier gifts, such as makeup, gift cards, snacks, and off-brand accessories, but why would someone be out of line to list himekaji? As for only collecting brand, maybe they meant they didn't want any replicas.

T b h , I also only collect main brand pieces (as a lolita). I wouldn't be upset if someone sent me taobao or off-brand, but my giftee might want to know the makeup of my wardrobe/what I like.

Also, side note: You can easily find cheap himekaji secondhand so idk what this anon is complaining about.
>>
>>9626229

>>
>>9626408
my post was made in response to >>9626361
on the topic of people being matched by their interests. I'm not interested in super feminine styles so I don't know why I was matched with someone who was interested in something so different from my /cgl/ related interests.
>>
>>9626350
>>>9625975

Does anyone have the whitelist/grinchlist? I'd really be interested to run the group if no one else can step up. Let's say, in two days if nobody else comes in?

I just love organising shit like this even though it can be a pain sometimes. I also don't want to be a control bitch and take the wheel out of someone else's hands
>>
>>9626440
I don't think the lists were ever made public?
>>
>>9626440
I'd probably wait a few more days, just because I think there's some good discussion going on. In the meantime maybe you could try to email Santa's Helper and get a hold of the white and black lists? Or figure out a system for matching people?
>>
>>9626446

Maybe we could try contacting the previous organizer (Neon Elf I think ?) or one of the helpers, since the people who took part in the Secret Santa and White Day exchanges have their email addresses
>>
What's the consensus on new lolitas participating in SS? I've been in the fashion for a little while and I'd really like to join in this year since I'm a lonelita. I suspect there's just a price bracket restriction or something?
>>
I participated last year and my gift was one of the ones that came really late. It was very nice and well thought out however, so I wasn't disappointed in the end. I'd very much be up for joining in again this year, but I do think restricting the amount of gifts you can sign up for to 1 or 2 is a good idea. IIRC, a lot of the problems last year came from people taking on 5 or 6 gifts and not being able to handle it all.
>>
>>9626504
It's fine, just join. A lot of us in the $10 bracket just purchased little trinkets for everyone last year. I don't understand this new found snootyness and "Lolita's only". The only burando rule shouldn't be allowed though, that's inconsiderate to a cosplayer with no outsider help or little knowledge. Lest we forget our situation with Uncle K(will he return this year?).

I've participated in the Secret Santa/White Day events. And it sincerely was so fun seeing gulls excited post about what they received. It really did warm my heart.

I really do hope this goes through again. I did have plenty of fun trying to organise gifts for my fellow gulls. And most of the gifts I've received have been extremely thoughtful, and a number of them are being displayed on my desk/diary/shelf.

>>9625968
I was actually one of Uncle T's targets, and he was extremely remorseful after he realised how much he let everyone down. But it was a genuine mistake, and he did make up for it.

Pic related.
>>
I participated last year and didn't have a negative experience with my ss, but I wasn't sure how I felt about most people having one santa they exchanged with instead of it being a little more tiered. But this could also be because of the number of people participating in each price bracket, since the higher groups had less participants.
>>
I think there should be a secret santa for cosplayers only, and one for just lolitas. None of us would know what the other would want, or where to get stuff for each other if there isn't
>>
>>9626550
1) I thought they matched by interests already a bit? 2) real talk, are there any actual cosplayers left on this thread or just crossboard memers looking to bitch about girls who cosplay their waifu ~wrong~
>>
Is there gonna be a card/small gift only bracket this year?
>>
>>9626550
The problem comes from the fact that the lolita side organized it in the past, so the lists aren't available to the cosplayer side.

I also wouldn't put it past lolitas to sign up for the cosplay one and specifically Grinch since they seem to hate the other side that much.

Matching by interests should be fine same as it has been
>>
>>9626582
>any actual cosplayers left on this thread
I am pretty serious about cosplaying. But Im also into lolita and will likely make a lolita only list.
Im extremely anal about acurracy in cosplay and prefer to buy things for myself.
Lolita on the other hand- I can usually trust gulls to not get me milanoo tier crap and accessories are a little more forgiving.
>>
>>9626619
>I also wouldn't put it past lolitas to sign up for the cosplay one and specifically Grinch since they seem to hate the other side that much.
Get over yourself

>>9626637
>Im extremely anal about acurracy in cosplay
I'm also into both cosplay and lolita, and honestly I wouldn't sign up for this if I was only into cosplay. It's hard to gift for cosplay without saying "I want [specific piece for specific character]" which takes the mystery and surprise out of it. The whole point of SS is to get something you didn't fully expect, and be surprised at what you get. I wouldn't want some random wig or piece for a character I'd have no interest in cosplaying either. Even asking for makeup and whatever, it's just in general more difficult to not ask for specific things. With lolita, it's easier because you can just give your style and measurements.
>>
I was thinking about entering this year since it always looks like so much fun and I love gift giving, on the other hand my country's postal service is utter shit and I don't want to grinch anyone...
>>
>>9626643
Judging from the fact that the lolitas itt seem to think there's no "real" cosplayers and are considering they want to kick us out of ss this time, I really wouldn't put it past salty lolitas to sign up and Grinch a separate cosplayer ss.
They really do seem to have something out for the other half of the board
>>
I really want to participate again this year because I find it so fun to pick out a gift package but man... whoevers organizing this, if there aren't enough matches for a certain option (like last year i know there were very few $50+ international santas...and i was three of them) let the applicants know and let them revise their bracket before sending out final assignments?

I hate to sound greedy but I sent out over $500 worth of nice, handpicked (and for two parts of my gifts, professionally custom made) packages of brand, sweets and goodies last year and got one (i'm choosing to believe it was the lowest tier bracket) back of cheap aliexspress accessories and was officially 'not grinched'.

regardless i'll probably only be signing up for cards and a single giftee to spoil, was too depressing last year
>>
>>9626647
> are considering they want to kick us out of ss this time
where? the only person i saw bring up making this a lolita only thing was a cosplayer, everyone else just suggested that it be separated by interests. many of us lolitas are also interested in cosplay/anime, not sure why you think all the lolitas are out to get you/cosplay.
>>
>>9626647
I'm not even going to sign up for the ss because the return of our old lolitasxcosplayers drama was all I really wanted for Christmas and this thread delivered it
>>
>>9626527
>newfound snootyness and lolitas only

literally where has anybody said anything like this? a lot of triggered cosplayfags itt
>>
>>9626306
Were you dreamcathedral?
>>
>>9626361
I think there isn't that many cosplayers, there were stats listed and most who participated last year were Lolitas. There were a few other jfash only ppl as well, but overall it was lolita based. I don't think we should cater to such a minority. Not that they should be banned but they should be able to buy lolita (since the chances are they will) and be able to provide vague interests that are cgl related that is reasonable for a lolita to buy for. Ideally we match the non Lolita's together but it gets complicated with other stuff.

Last year it was sorted by local and interests as some people didn't want to spend on international shipping which meant that local was a priority. This led to some not preferable matches. There was also trying to match by price range as well but it didn't work out.
>>
>>9626361
i'm a casual cosplayer (mostly here for the artist alley, itabagging and craft threads) but it was incredibly easy to buy jfash gifts that my giftees (at least said they) loved. There's tons of FAQs on this board, let alone the internet, that guide noobs in shopping for various fashions.

in saying that all of the people I bought for had good descriptions of stuff they liked, and listed specific brands, aesthetics and colours they liked (or gave a dress that they wanted matching accessories for).
>>
>>9626647
I'm the person who asked if there were any "real" cosplayers left, and I technically do both cosplay and lolita. I've just stopped checking the cosplay threads for the most part because every one these days seems to be filled with general bitching about girls in cosplay from crossboarders who don't actually cosplay and no real discussion about cosplay itself. I might be bitter, but the lolita threads seem to have less trolls. I definitely don't want to kick any actual cosplayers out of the ss, though!
>>
>>9626698
>I haven't been in any cosplay threads recently
>but I believe that there are no "real" cosplayers here anymore
I don't see how you could not notice the flaw in your reasoning here
>>
>>9626702
>for the most part
I do check them, but they are almost always derailed by a few people arguing about how some efamous chick cosplayed someone's waifu wrong. I apologize for the broad generalization, I am aware that there aren't literally no cosplayers left here that would be absurd. it just seems like lately there are more and more memers in their boards and less general cosplay discussion

also back in the days of yore, cosplayers used the shared threads. that seems to happen less and less these days
>>
>>9626674
I was.
>>
>>9626297
>>9626294

Since ita-bags have become a lot more commonplace since the last SS, a suggestion to gift givers could be things that could be used for that?
>>
>>9626229
Sorry to hear that Anon! I remember you posted the Starbucks card art last year and it was really good!

I also got grinched by 1 out of the 2 people I sent gifts to, but I'd love to sign up this year as well.
>>
>>9626494
Sadly, I didn't particpate last year but if somone would be willing to get me in touch i'd be eternally grateful!

>>9626449
Good idea. Let's see what people want to do between lolita and cosplay, whitelist and grinch list and such.
>>
>>9626727
I feel like as long as it's board-related, it should be fine?

Jfashion: vkei, nanchatte, fairykei, mori, otome, lolita, aristo, himekaji, gyaru, etc etc etc

fan/otaku fashion: itabags items, cosplay,

other: side interests such as art, thematic "kawaii", makeup, cards

not okay: "I only want this one thing", unrelated manga or anime (go to jp or v or w/e), inappropriately nsfw stuff
>>
>In case the white and grinch lists are gone:
In the old Santa and White Day threads anons were discussing using Lacemarket feedbacks to qualify people for more than one gift exchange. I'm not sure what cosplayers could use but I like that idea. Maybe there's a way to utilize proof photos from their previous giftee (via the archives) to show they've sent gifts before.
>>
>>9627350
I like this idea. I participated two? years ago, but I don't know if I'm on the white list or not.
>>
I'm really hoping this gets picked up and on the roll soon. I know it's super early, but I like ordering gifts from Japan for the people I get, and I take a while to put together the perfect gift (never been late sending out, but last year I felt really rushed). With the amount of people that sent gifts out months late, starting planning a few months early is better.
>>
I participated a few years ago and received a bunch of small low-quality items from China, all individually sent. It would have been fine if it weren't for the fact that I had to go across town to pick up small items from the post office multiple times.
>>
>>9628767
I'd forgive that if it were in the cheapest bracket.
>>
>>9629086
Pretty sure it was for a 20+ gift exchange.
>>
>>9628090
Same, honestly. I want the time to hunt for something really nice for them, and maybe get multiple things.
>>
Is this even going to happen? Does anyone even want to take it on? Do people still have grinch lists?
>>
Bumping this. I'd help organize if someone gave me the secret santa naughty list!
>>
>>9629146
I think people need to agree on rules and restrictions first.
Seems like some want jfash only or female only gift exchange and there really hasn't been any actual discussion either way since people are expecting someone to come forward and organize it
>>
>>9629767
I have no issues organizing a rules and restrictions list.
I wouldnt have time to pair santas, though
>>
>>9629771
Anon, I'm happy to pair santas. If you can figure out the logistics and set the rules, I'm game. I'd feel more comfortable having the old grinch list so tonight I'll try to reach out to the old organizers.

Okay, as soon as I get off of work Ill draft up the rules.
No, i will not exclude men or non lolitas but I will try to make the rules to make things easier to shop for others.
>>
What sort of feedback links do you need? I have a Lacemarket account that I never use so if it's needed to take part I might buy and sell some stuff while waiting for the Secret Santa organising to start
>>
>>9629789
Can you email me the draft? I'd like to take a look before we officially post it!
>>
>>9629816
I sent the drafted rules to you.
Hopefully, my secretary skills came in handy.
>>
>>9629814
I included ebay feedback lists. Basically anywhere that you buy or sell and people leave feed back should work.
Personally, I dont sell any of my lolita shit, so my selling list is... well, empty.
And I buy a lot of new stuff, so i don't have a lot of buying feedback, either.
>>
>>9629837
Response to your draft sent! Thanks for taking care of that so quickly, it's a fantastic starting point.
>>
Heres the current draft of the rules. If any of you guys have any additional feedback jlmk
2017 Seagull Secret Santa Rules and Restrictions-
-Send all gift lists to seagullssanta@gmail.com
-Include 10-15 items on your list. Provide links if applicable. Make sure you add measurements, styles, and colors that you prefer.
- Do NOT specify brand only or for specific items only. This makes things harder on your gifter!
-Specify what type of gifts you're looking for (lolita, cosplay, vk, yumekawaii, etc) We will try to assign people to like hobbies. If you know enough about other /cgl/ hobbies, let us know incase we need to assign different people to different hobbies.
-Let us known what your shipping limits are and where you are located. We will try and keep things local.
-Please send lists in by October 22nd- We will not accept any late lists. Pairings should be assigned around November 1st.
-Specify which tier you'd like to like to be in. (Prices are BEFORE shipping costs. Please bear this in mind when signing up)
Tier 1 (Cards, Small Trinkets, and gifts up to $10)
Tier 2- $10-$30
Tier 3- $30-$60
Tier 4- $60-$100
Tier 5- $100-$150
-Do NOT spend below the tier you are given. If there is an uneven amount of tiers, we may bump you down to the next lowest tier. However, you're more than welcome to spoil someone and spend above.
-Do NOT sign up for more than you are able to spend. We will cap the amount of gifters/giftees at 3 per person. If you are on the whitelist, you can sign up for more if you're able.
-Please try and provide lists for lace market, etsy, ebay, facebook sales, or simmilar lists for selling. Otherwise, you will be restricted to tiers 1-3. (Unless you are on the white list from a previous exchange)
-Please also provide your address for your gifter. You don't have to use your real name.
-Gifts are due to be shipped by January 15th, otherwise you will be listed as a grinch. (Unless discussed by your giftee incase of unforseen circumstances. Shit happens)

>Tier 5- $100-$150

Lads honestly this is looking for trouble, I commend you on the "dont specify brand only" rule because honestly relieves alot of pressure off newbies but can also lead to a SS sending off shitty taobao bundles and claiming its $100 when in reality, more like $50. I'd keep it to 3 tiers so you can track it alot easier and $50+ being the max. Lets anons spoil eachother if they want to but can also not come off totally disappointing.

Also that's gonna tempt so many grinches.
>>
>>9629901
Tiers 4 and 5 are for white listed people and people with solid feedback only, specifically to avoid this.
I cans till remove it if this is a problem, even with these barriers in place to prevent grinches if more people wind up speaking up about it.
>>
We can probably go:

-Card-only Tier
-$10-20
-$20-35
-$35-50
-$50+

Does that sound reasonable?
>>
>>9629925
Sounds okay to me. I'll update the rules once I get back home unless feedback prefers to current tiers.
>>
>>9629908
How are you going to prove people are linking to their own feedback? Anyone can send you a link to a random eBay profile.
>>
>>9629942
My thought is that they need to send us a picture proving they are logged in to that account, so on the right hand corner where it says "welcome, seagull!" or the account managment page.
>>
>>9629869
I'm a bit confused as this is my first year interested in this. If you aren't asking for specifics, why would links be needed? By gift lists, do you mean like asking for "wristcuffs, hair bows" and things like that, that are generic but still specific enough?
also, how would cosplay work? it seems like it'd be really hard to ask for cosplay without being extremely specific. I'm asking as I'm more into cosplay than lolita, but I wouldn't want to burden someone or take the fun out of it by asking for specifics.
>>
>>9630026
Links could be used for a dress you're looking to accessorize.

The "no specifics" thing came about because some gulls last year got people who said they ONLY wanted brand and wouldn't be happy with anything else.

I think the rule writers are trying to say, "You can't ask for one specific item and then get mad when you don't get it."

Cosplay in the past has included general crafting items, items related to past or upcoming cosplays (merch from the property you're cosplaying, for example). But again, I think a wig would be a perfect thing you could get for a cosplayer.
>>
>>9630026
It's more like, you shouldn't have a list and say "I ONLY want these items." Your list should provide a general idea of the types of things that you would like. If your partner can get you the specific items that's great, but if not, they can get you similar items.
>>
>>9629945
Why not just send them a PM on Lacemarket?
>>
>>9630098
Oh, I guess I could do that too! Duh. Thanks, anon.
>>
>>9630026
ASking for a handfull of specifics is fine. But the issue is ONLY specifics.
Like saying
I ONLY WANT THIS SPECIFIC ITEM, THIS SPECIFIC ITEM, THIS SPECIFIC ITEM, OR THIS SPECIFIC ITEM.
Is what the issue is- because your gifter won't have any options if they can't track down those specific items. (Especially in Jfashion)
Same goes for brand. Having a list of ONLY brand items is more what is against the rules, but there's nothing wrong with having a few brand items listed on there.
>>
Last year's helper here. Have handled over the blacklist/whitelist to this year's organizers as well as old documents.

Will be pushing to finish up the last two exchanges up and get the grinched anons their gifts.
If you have any questions about last year, email the old email.

Good luck new Santas!
>>
>>9630098
I dont have a lacemarket though. What should cosplayerd do?
>>
>>9629908
what about cosplay, where you don't really do business on ebay or lacemarket to build feedback?
>>
>>9630131
>ASking for a handfull of specifics is fine.
To me, asking for specifics at all should not be allowed. That's not what secret santa is about. Regardless of being able to, or not being able to track down items is irrelevant. The point of SS is the surprise. It's what makes it fun. If you want specific items, buy them yourself, obviously if you're participating in the price bracket of those items, you have the funds to do so.

this. thank you. the fun part of doing this is being able to pick out items myself that i think the receiver would enjoy, and seeing their (hopefully) pleasant surprise! i would be honestly annoyed seeing the person i get name even a couple very specific items because i'd feel pressure to get those or feel worried they'd be a bit disappointed if i didn't get them.

I'll try to better some better stats on the ratio of gifts that were grinched later.

I hope this assuage your worries. Unfortunatly being grinched is a possiblity in all the secret santas from all the boards. Its a risk you have to take when you participate. And as much as we try worry about gifts grinched, giving is the goal.

>>9630148
>>9630148
If there is any other site where you'd make purchases from- that'd work too.
Just send a screenshot of you logged in on the account.
Unfortunately, if you don't have any of this, you'd be restricted to the first three tiers.
Which gifting well can get you white listed for future gift exchanges so you wouldn't need the feed back list.
>>9630150
I allowed specifics because it could still be a surprise of what they'd get if it's mixed in with non specifics.
Allowing some specifics won't really harm the exchange at all, and it may make someone happy to give/receive it.
>>
>>9630161
Ill update the rules to reflect the new tiers Friday afterwork.
Unfortunately, Thursdays are my 13 hour work day, so I won't have time tomorrow.

But I am off weekends so I can make further revisions as more posts come in.
>>
>>9630164
not >>9630150
but would you allow someone to request to get someone who doesn't request specifics (i'm saying like specific names of pieces, not general like "wigs")?
>>
>>9630168
We can try to accommodate that, but if things don't match up, there'd be no guarantee.
I know personally, the most "specific" things I have are "things that match this print. Thx"or "y color tea parties."
I'm heading to bed for now, I'll be back friday to check and respond to more feedback.
Please keep it coming, it's really helpful as it's my first time running something like this.
>>
>>9630168
>>9630160
Seconding this. Maybe I sound like a bitch but I'm standing by my original comment.
>>
Is there a form yet? Don't want to forget any info.
>>
>>9629869
Hope u guys are going to use a form for some of this info. Asking ppl to just list things is pretty vague. I liked the previous years' questionnaire... also maybe look at how /a/ does theirs?
>>
>>9629869
Rather than gift lists, I'd prefer the format of last year's where people just mentioned their interests in the form.

For J-fashion this could be styles, substyles, main wardrobe colours and themes. For cosplayers(and this time I assume itabaggers) it was series they were interested in, colours and materials they might need, etc. While people were allowed to mention specifics e.g. they needed more accessories like wristcuffs, asking for particular pieces was discouraged.

Alot of anons mentioned their fave madcot characters, and some were interested in beauty products and included skin type/shade. There was also an option for whether handmade gifts were alright.

As much as last year had its flaws I think the google form and info it gave had a generally good result.
>>
>>9630231
Agree with this 100%. I wonder if the new person organizing this participated last year to know the form etc? I don't mean that in a rude way since it's great someone is taking the time to do this, but the format of the form was the one thing that I thought was perfect.
>>
>>9626647
youre an idiot lol. I do both lolita and cosplay. Cut your moronic generalization. I don't think anyone should be kicked out, but two separate pools should be run so people are guaranteed to be getting someone who understands their interests. I got messages last winter from /cgl/ cosplayer friends who signed up and were matched with lolitas and had no clue what to get them. It's frustrating and discouraging to join.

>>9630155
Judging from this and the current ratio of threads on cgl, we are in the minority. Will there even been enough cosplayers to send gifts to? Isn't this like triple the work?
>>
>>9630351
It seems ok if you live in the US. International cosplayers are sorta fucked.
>>
>>9630351
Just chiming in that I'm a cosplayer who has done these in the past and most of us do both cosplay and Jfashion so some of the data doesn't reflect that unless it's >>9630153
where "Both" was an option to select. A couple exchanges just asked if you were one or the other.
>>
>>9630247
I didn't participate last year, but I make surveys for a living so I am confident I and the other organizer will make it work! Plus we have past year's santa as a guide. We're hearing all of the feedback and considering it, thank you guys for the helpful comments.
>>
Would it be acceptable to just have a wardrobe pinterest and then a sort of aesthetic board? Its hard to narrow things down to certain wish list items bc I am not picky at all, as long as it fits my general color scheme and aessthetic I don't really care.
>>
>>9630176
>>9630230
We're going to make a form, dont't worry.
Bear in mind, it hasnt even been 24 hours since the other gull and I volunteered to organize this.
The form is on my weekend todo list.
>>
>>9630520
Thanks for taking this on anon, it was really nice of you to do so!
>>
I'll try to participate this year, but from what I've seen it's not pretty poplar with South America Lolitas. Hope that's not a problem.
>>
Is there a way to make sure that you aren't matched up with someone from a previous SS? I participated in both SS last year and White Day and had the same giftee. My giftee didn't sound very happy with my gift the first time round so it was awkward sending a second package later.
>>
>>9630555
I dont know how possible this would be. If you remember the giftees email, we can try and give you someone else.
I dont remember- were there giftee versions of grinches, btw? Like incredibly ungrateful people?
>>
you guys sound all over it. super excited for this year's SS already. And wow looking at previous stats... US sure dominates.
>>
>>9630163
I saw so many people complain about being grinched that I thought the issue was much bigger than it actually is, this is pretty reassuring to see even if there is no guarantee of course
Hopefully requiring feedback will make it even safer this year!

Update: Just sent the first draft of the form to santafrills. We'll work this weekend to edit and finish compiling everything and hopefully we'll get this all up and running early next week (or even this weekend)! If no one else has additional feedback, let's allow this thread to die so we can start fresh with a new one when the form is posted. You can email I or santafrills with any concerns, and we would be happy to have one or two more gulls on the organizing team, so please email us for that as well! Thanks, everyone and we'll talk to you soon!
>>
>>9630141
A good point, actually. I think this was an issue with previous years. Some people were allowed to verify with other shopping accounts, like ebay.
>>
>>9630568
I think that's just because the exchange started so late last year. I think people didn't get their matches until the end of November.
>>
>>9630504
Yeah I have my wardrobe listed out on my pinterest, an inspiration board, and a wish list board. I was thinking of linking my account so my ss could know me better.
>>
>>9630931
This is pretty much what I have set up as well. It's just easier IMO, for someone who isn't picky (and if you're picky about SS, you probably just shouldn't participate.)
>>
>>9630775
I'm super excited! This will be my first SS and it seems like you two are very organized. Thank you for doing all of this!
>>
>>9630938
Agreed, like I want specific things sure, but like last year my ss got me a ap star purse that wasnt on my wishlist but goes perfectly with my constellation theme part of my wardrobe.
And agreed with the should not participate if you want something specific.
>>
Ohh I'm super excited for this year!~ Though question as an cosplayer/itabagger am I allowed to specify no bootleg merch?
>>
>>9631169
I think you could request it, but someone who has minimal ita bag experience might not know the difference.
Would you accept fan art?
>>
>>9631169
I would say no if it would put your santa over their budget. Official merchandise can be expensive. Even keychains.
>>
>>9631270
Ideally anon would have other interests in their list that their santa could go for instead of buying them an unwanted bootleg though.
>>9631169
I think saying no to bootlegs is totally reasonable.
>>
>>9631270
I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for no bootleg merch. It wouldn't be okay for a lolita to be gifted a replica, after all, so why would it be okay for an itabagger to be gifted bootleg? Plus only super rare merch fall into 50$+ range, the usual price is ~5$-15$ (for fanmerch too) and ~20$ for rarer items on auction/bigger items such as plushes.
>>
>>9631172
Fanart is perfectly fine, but bootlef means anything thats not from a legitimate shop. You can even buy secondhand at mandarake and fb groups who dont allow bootleg.
Bootleg (is it keychains or figures) are mostly bought on alie, taobao and the like.
If you're gonna gift merch.. dont buy said merch on a site like that. Just to be sure
>>
>>9631172
Boot leg and fan art are two completely different things, so yeah that's fine.

>>9631270
Like bootleg basebags are perfectly fine and are used often but like bootleg merch most itabaggers won't use as it's ether insulting to them/creators/etc or it doesn't go with the aesthetic of their bags since a lot of bootleg merch is discolored.

Also, there are usually places to find cheap secondhand merch so people don't go over.

>>9631281
You can buy cheap non bootleg merch on all those sites though like I've bought a shit ton on Taobao's animate store that's sold out in Japan.
>>
>>9631169
I would say yes, there should be no bootleg merch.
I do know a decent amount about Ita bags, so I know getting keychains and buttons from fan artists on etsy isnt THAT pricey, so Im going to allow fanart pieces.
Im going to check the draft of the form after work and some personal things are taken care of.
My goal is to have everything up and ready by monday.
>>
>>9631409
It's super important on my end as a santa to be matched with people who are okay with handmade! Make sure that's on the form again this year.
>>
>>9631412
Already accounted for! I added a few more pointed questions to the form that should address the concerns voiced in the thread. I think you guys will be happy (hopefully)!
>>
>>9631395
Yeah I know about them also selling legit merch, but if you dont know a lot about it and want to play safe.. I think it would be very hard to use then
>>
>>9631420
I just want to say again that you seem super on top of everything, and I'm really thankful for that!
>>
>>9631274
The thing is, how easy is it to know? In lolita new ppl accidentally buy replicas all the time. At cons irl ppl buy bootlegs of shit all the time. You have to come from the perspective of someone who will just google what their SS list says to find something cute.
>>
>>9631921
For merch isn't it basically just
Don't buy from eBay chinese sellers
Don't buy from Amazon
Buy from western sellers and ask for proof pictures
Buy from established Japanese secondhand sites with an ss/tenso
>>
>>9631923
Isnt there a file on the ita bag thread about identifying fakes? If there isn't then there should be and that would be a good thing to share.
>>
>>9631921
Sorry if I kind of expect seagulls to be smart enough to know how to avoid bootlegs. If I accidentally receive a single bootleg, then I'll just trash it with no hard feelings, but purposely putting no care in your gift selection just makes you a shitty santa. It isn't hard to show a listing to the itabag thread and ask if it's legit.
>>
praying i don't get matched with a non-lolita. not that i have anything against them, but i don't know shit about anything /cgl/ related that's non-lolita so the person i get would end up with a shitty gift.
>>
Just a heads up, I should be on for a greater portion of the dead.
So hopefully this is all ready to go before the weekend is over.
>>
>>9631409
>>9631921
>>9632177

Would it be unreasonable to just made an exchange-wide rule of no bootlegs/ replicas/ fakes? I'm primarily into lolita, but also love character goods, and while I've never had a problem with fakes the fact that people are suggesting having to mention it in your preferences and requests kind of makes me uneasy. I understand what the other anon was saying about people who don't know much about the product they're buying, but again, it's not that hard. Maybe we can suggest a white list of stores that people can use as a starting point? Places like AmiAmi, Goodsmile, etc, as well as links to lolita shops too?
>>
>>9632354
I think that's a good idea. >>9631948 is right though- if you're on this board a lot you probably know how to avoid fakes. I suggest that people make use of the relevant general threads when shopping for gifts. I am curious to see if itabaggers get their own category or if they'll get lumped in with cosplay or jfash since its kind of in-between.
>>
>>9632361
Im into jfashion, lolita, and I have three itabags. So I feel like I could cover a few categories.
>>
>>9632354
>>9632361

We're trying to be hands-off with what is and isn't allowed, but there are spots for you to indicate your preferences regarding bootlegs on the form. We'll also provide resources for avoiding fakes/shopping Taobao/etc.
>>
With all this discussion about restrictions and separating interests and knockoffs, I can only imagine some poor anon's going to give the wrong gift to someone on accident and cgl's going to go nuclear.
>>
>>9632373
On that note, one of the only things that will 100% be not allowed are print replicas.
Design replicas and bootlegs (though I'm kind of against the latter) will be allowed provided someone is okay with it.
>>
I just went to my local chinatown to shop for character goods last year because I didn't know what to get this cosplayer. I feel horrible now because I didn't know that was an issue. I just thought the sailor moon keychain was cute and that she wouldnt mind if it didnt have a package.
>>
>>9632387

See this is why I feel bad about getting worried about bootlegs, since I don't want to discourage people, and in my Chinatown at least there are plenty of cute, non-bootleg items. Also I was thinking of more high-end items, and kind of forgot about simple stuff like pencils, pens, stationery, etc. that are harder to verify and confirm
>>
I'll do it if theres anons into menhera and gurokawa participating. I know jack shit about lolita.

Also, what other boards do this? I mostly use /mu/ and everyone is a manchild who believes the roastie meme on there.
>>
>>9632454
>everyone is a manchild who believes the roastie meme on there.
flip the genders and that seems to basically be /cgl/ anon
>>
