Entry gallery is up so lets retoast and discuss some outfits
>>
I thought the contest was about unique personal style, not a style that already exist (like Lolita, Gyaru etc.). But on the other side, there are barely any people wearing unique Harajuku style outside of Japan, so I'm not surprised by the entries.

And Kawaii.i got quite unpopular considering the small number of entries
>>
Some of these outfits are really awful
>>
The entire contest is rigged, and is a complete joke. They only pick winners based on their social media following, so if you're not e-famoose, you won't win. They also don't care about whether or not you have actual knowledge of Japanese fashion, just look at Kelly Eden.
>>
How about some ‘WTF’ entries?

Why would you post a pic to a fashion contest where your outfit isn't visible?

Seeing how mediocre the entries are, I kind of want to enter, but I doubt I would get anywhere since I don't have a big online presence.

I can't be the only one who hates when the Kawaii.i contests happen right?

Everyone tries for their 15 seconds of efame, they all beg for votes, they think they are the shit. It is so annoying.

Then some famewhore wins and gets their overblown ego validated and becomes even more famewhory.

>>9691670
you're not, anon, trust me. it's obviously a popularity contest, not just because of the votes, but because they blatantly ask you how many followers you have on your sns on the entry form.

they always end up picking some white girl from america or the uk who doesn't even suit the fashion or coordinate it but has like 50k followers on insta.

pic related. the only reason this monstrosity won is because beckii is still considered a ~*youtube star*~ even after her fifteen minutes of fame in japan are long over. beckii's good at coordinating though i don't understand how she came up with this. they probably asked her to enter and she just wore whatever she thought was "harajuku" a.k.a things that don't match. i'm already placing bets that pixielocks will be one of the winners this year.
>>
>>9691749
What I want to know is who the fuck is still checking for Beckii Cruel in 2017 anyway?

>pixielocks
Honestly after they hired a trashy bimbo like Kelly that can't even respect and understand Japanese return policies, I wouldn't be surprised if Jillian was the next. The whole thing is a pissing contest of attention whoring lolcows that don't know shit about jfashion or anything 'kawaii'. At least Jillian has an interest in studying fashion, even if her skills and taste are both shit, she's still leagues above Kelly because she sort of tries. I still think the position should go to someone that really contributes to jfashion communities, but since it's a popularity contest that is never going to happen. They'll probably pick Jillian and go on about how she 'invented her own kei' that she doesn't even wear anymore.
>>
>>9691775
I think Pixie would be a good choice. You can’t deny her style is popular and she used to wear real j-fashion. Like you say, she makes an effort and has her own “personal” style whether it looks good or not.
>>
Holy shit these entries justify why normies would shit on any and all jfashion if this is what these people think is acceptable to wear in public.
>>
>>9691783
Don't, I can't watch another 10 videos of her being autistic in Japan. She will probably win though which is very depressing.

>>9691938
This would have been so cool as some sort of nurse ouji, but if only she put on some damn pants.
>>
>>9682250
This might be a controversial opinion, but I don't think Lolita should be allowed since it's meant to be personal style, not variations of the same silhouette, wigs, accessories and prints over and over again.
>>
>>9692048
I see what you mean, I agree to some extent but I do think lolita can look unique and "personal". Imo it's fine if the coord in question brings something new to the table so that it's obvious that it's someone's personal style shining through, rather than the amount of money they threw at AP for their cookie-cutter full set coord.
>>
This I like. Creepy cute is a bit outdated, but it seems like there was more effort put into this photo's layout/the overall presentation than in most of the entries.
Not gonna lie, I'll be a little salted if Pixielocks, Beckii or any of the other oversaturated weeb girls wins.
>>9691938

Oshit, I actually follow this girl on Tumblr. She usually posts nice photos/coords, but this looks so incomplete and sort of dreary. What a letdown.

I like this, but I feel like Asian and black girls don't really have a chance in this competition. They're seeking out popular white girls (regardless of whether they're good or not).

>>
>>9691775
While I find Party Kei cute at times it's rather annoying how that fb group for it is literally just her fans wanting to get her attention. More than half of the posts tag her so she can see it. It's like Jillian please notice me more than a fashion thing. She used to wear j fashion but all she does now is Party Kei, if she even does that fully anymore. Also Party Kei is so confusing at times as they literally asspat each other about what works in it. I wouldn't see why she should win.

I'm the anon you replied to and I actually do agree with this. I actually can't stand Jillian, my point was that if Kelly got in anyone can, I wouldn't be surprised if Jillian did but her fashion isn't good enough to deserve it. Party Kei is just whatever amalgamation of overpriced dollskill tier clothes and cheap pastel junk Jillian dragged out of claires and forever 21. She doesn't wear any japanese stuff anymore, just american fast fashion. She even called her style 'americanised fairy kei' recently. She changes it to fit whatever she likes because she's too unique and special for any guidelines (why she couldn't deal with lolita) and doesn't like confrontation. You're right about the fb group too, they're all a bunch of kids in tacky clothes and clown makeup vying for Jillian's attention, it's kind of pathetic but most of them are minors so I can't judge them too much.

>>9694327
I'm surprised to see her here, I enjoy her videos and her coords are mostly pretty nice. I think her look is a good example of a 'personal style' while still being lolita. A lot of the lolitas that entered just seem to be wearing the generic default for whatever substyle they're doing, or you can't even see their coord properly. I love this girls coord >>9694357 but there's nothing that makes it stand out as her personal style, just gothic lolita. It's adorable though, I want her whole outfit.
>>
>>9694511
>She doesn't wear any japanese stuff anymore
I mean, she does, though? She talks about Spank, Nile Perch, and Wego pretty often. Although Wego is basically just the Japanese equivalent of F21

I also don't think you could consider Lazy Oaf, which is her latest obsession, "fast fashion". I personally hate LO but it's not fast fashion.
>>
>>9694511
yeah, I agree >>9694357 is an outstanding bodyline coord, but it's not incredibly styled. she doesn't seem to wear gothic all that much either.

>>
>>9694502
Too bad she's kind of a bitch. I like her style but I just can't like her as a person.
>>
>>9694515
She hasn't worn any of those Japanese brands in months though, she only mentioned them in her Japan hauls only for most of the clothes to never be seen again. She wears accessories from 6% dokidoki but besides that she only really hauls stuff and adds it to her hoard. If you look at her social media, most of the time she's always just wearing forever 21 tennis skirts and her own merch. She even recently did a sponsored video for fucking zaful.

I'll give you lazy oaf, they're a decent brand and I never said they were fast fashion but they're still not jfashion. My point was that she barely wears or talks about Japanese fashion at all anymore so I don't see why she should be a kawaii leader. When people ask her where to shop for party kei she always recommends F21 and claires, and I don't think there's anything jfashion about that.

>>9694536
>she doesn't seem to wear gothic all that much either.
She doesn't? Then why is she entering it into a personal style contest? I have no idea who she is to be honest with you. I just thought her coord was nice, but there's nothing personal about it, especially if she doesn't even wear gothic all the time. I'd really love to see a gothic lolita win this round but it seems like our best shot at that is probably Hello Batty.

I might be wrong but to me she came across as kinda bitchy to me. Also I just don't trust someone that likes Nicole Dollanganger and refuses to say the name of the app she used to achieve some effect.
>>
>>9694557
I don't know. I can maybe see how she might come across that way because she's a bit 'cold' and direct online, but I never felt she was being rude or bitchy at all.

I'm not the anon you're replying to or ophelia, I just dislike when people accuse me of being bitchy too when they're just putting untrue emotion to my words, so I wanted to give a different view point.
>>
>>9692099

>>
>>9694337

>>
>>9694334
Doesn't she post here? I feel like she samefags complimenting herself sometimes. The hype around her whenever she gets posted is a bit exaggerated.
>>
>>9694337
Those shoes are way too big for her to comfortably walk in so I find it hard to believe this is her personal style and not just an outfit put together for the photo. That goes for a lot of the entries, but for some reason the badly fitting shoes really hits it home for me. Like a kid in a rented prom outfit.
>>
>>9694357
Did she really submit this? She posted it to CoF a few months ago. It's the exact same photo too. I expected people to make something new for this.
>>
>>9694547
nah man, her old school stuff is pretty good. she mixes new stuff with old, and brand and offbrand and it looks seamless. I also like her weird dolly kei and menhera stuff. I like her because she's really into fash and isn't an amateur casual. can't knock her for having a clear inspiration. just like that cute black goth lolita who is clearly insp by Mana and VK but is still original af
I wish she'd enter too. 10/10 would vote

>>
>>9693817
I can see how it looks ageplay. Looks like she put on a cheap dress and rolled around in some kids craft project. Then she has a bunch of toys on her head, posing with baby toys also doesn't help. I know she was trying to be "kawaii" but the outfit is a mess.

People that do more than just haul stuff and chase efame. Things like organising meets and events for example. Even just people that give back to the community by translating and making things more accessible for others. People that post guides, tutorials and coordinate ideas that are interesting and informative contribute to the community in some fashion also.

The online jfashion community is filled with girls who do nothing but consume and don't actually contribute anything besides posting hauls. I don't think there's anything wrong with that (I'm a lonelita myself who doesn't post anything) but I feel like the people that are selected to be leaders should be knowledgeable about different jfashions and should actively be contributing more than just consuming, hauling and vying for efame. They should love their fashion and really know their shit. Otherwise we end up with people like Kelly who have a shallow interest in shit like hello kitty toasters, don't know a first thing about jfashion and just embarrass us all.
>>
>>9694708
why would anyone submit a group picture for an individual contest

nart but for exemple, I was glad that Mila de Blois got picked as a Kawaii leader. She frequently organize meetups and tea parties, and work at AP. She's someone who actually cares about the community and invests her time and money in it for others to share this hobby together

I feel like Peachie really faded. Is she even active anymore? Who are the most popular lolita bloggers/vloggers now?

She's active but doesn't always vlog about lolita or wear it for that matter, she mostly wears other pastel cute fashions now. I'd say that Lor is one of the popular lolita youtubers currently.

>>
>>9694713
I agree with this so much! Jfashion in the West has as become really boring because all there is people who wanna buy the latest items and wear the same basic looks as everyone else. When I first learned about jfashion years ago there was more people who actually put themselves into it. Not just girls looking to get follows and YouTube views.

We need more people who really love it and understand it. People who make tutorials, translate, etc are what keeps it growing and thriving. I'd love to see more of that. Kawaii.i is a joke but as a community we should work harder to expand jfashion to the world so it doesn't die off.
>>
>>9698161
I'm glad to hear someone feels the same. I first got into jfashion around 2011/2012 and I remember being so amazed and excited about how everyone had some sort of individuality. Even though it wasn't that long ago in hindsight, things have changed a lot since then. It seems like back then people really gave their all into their style and their fashion communities but at some point it just became a race to have the most stuff to brag about and not even get excited for. There are some people who still really love it, but there are many others that just see it as a stepping stone to efame which is kinda lame, and when the community calls out these girls they just ragequit the fashion because they don't like the negative attention. If they really loved it they wouldn't be so transparent.

Like you said kawaii.i is a joke and it probably always will be, but the overall community will suffer if we keep letting it turn into nothing but a pissing contest of who has the most stuff and the most followers. I remember when Kera, Fruits and the GLB announced their closure and many people were panicking about it, yet only a few people actually talked about making a conscious effort to keep the fashion alive. Yes the days of print magazines and blogs are on their way out, but no one is actively trying to move forward and expand the fashion. Not many people translate the existing material from Japan either.

I honestly wish I had the skills to do it myself. I almost feel responsible for not actively trying to help the community by being a lonelita that doesn't like to post on social media. I don't want to be a kawaii leader or some shit, but I really do love jfashion and it'd be sad to see it die off because there aren't many people that represent it that really care about it. There are too many girls that just see it as a ticket to potential efame and that fucking sucks.

The first person who comes to my mind is Paulina aka Cupcake Kamisama. She's really active in online lolita comms/groups, always commenting with suggestions and useful tips and stuff. On her blog she posts coording tips, reviews and other stuff, not just hauls. She also contributes to Wunderwelt's English blog and the Love Letter lolita fashion e-zine.
Here's her blog: cupcakes-and-unicorns.blogspot.com
She also had a YT channel where she mainly posts unboxings shot with a potatocam, but through them I found out about a few shops and things, so it can be useful to someone as well: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDoD9K9Es25MVoICZyYsWHw
She seems like a genuinely nice person and, judging by her social media presence, doesn't seem to be chasing after e-fame, so in my opinion she's the true lolita fashion lover and contributor we're all looking for.

>>
>>9699930
I've never heard of this person before. may I ask what her deal is, or is this a can of worms I should avoid? I'm curious because this chick must be a big dramatic deal, since I don't usually hear taste in music being a deciding factor in liking someone as a person.
>>
>>9699965
i recommend checking the farm for a more thorough explanation

tl;dr an artist/musician whose fans typically try to emulate her sad bbydoll aesthetic. nicole is a grown woman who romanticizes stuff like pedophilia and school shootings, publicly asks her fans for drugs, frequently lies about her past, and hangs out with her impressionable underage fans a little bit too frequently. ophelia's aesthetic is clearly inspired by nicole so i personally can't respect her.
>>
>>9699974
I don't see the aesthetic connection, anon. I won't give that girl's music a listen because she's shaping up to be an absolute edgelord dumpster version of Lana del Ray, but if it's sad droopy/creepy lo-fi stuff then maybe that's why Ophelia is into it, as that's the kind of stuff she makes.
I don't get the leap you're making though. I think Oph truly likes vintage dolls and a menhera/worn dollgirl look, and is pretty effing dedicated to old school. I seriously doubt she is down with this Nicole girl's classless personal politics.

i'm WK-ing Ophelia because people nitpick the strangest things when someone garner's enough visibility. She's well-known because she has a distinct style and dresses well. I respect her style and I'll only support her being dragged down if she's actually done or said something offensive.
I wouldn't want to have to defend why I like listening to Mindless Self Indulgence and the Fugees or other "controversial" shit in order for people to not discount my ability to still be an empathetic and well-meaning person, or my style journey in this hobby.

Some gulls honestly like Ariana Grande and Melanie Martinez, while I find them to be disgusting ddlg trash. music taste is not a good indicator of a person's heart.

Anzujaamu will probably win If they choose based on followers!

>>
>>9700913
I know a lot of people don't care for Anzu but I have to say, she IS consistent with her style and actually wears j-fash normally. I recognise a few of the people here and they don't actually wear it on the regular.

Hopefully they don't pick someone who is just entering with a one-off photoshoot.
>>
>>9700913
>>9700914
You didn't count facebook followers; some of these girls don't really use youtube even though they have one.

You also have to consider where they're from. aru.rinh and kammiepomeranian aren't likely to win because they're from America but Asian, and they're likely looking for someone white to represent America.
>>
>>9700919
>they don't actually wear it on the regular
How would you actually know this, unless you know them irl? Not everyone posts their entire life or every outfit online, even if they have a large following.
>>
>>9700913
Man, a lot of these girls either bought their followers on insta or have a ton of ghost followers, from the looks of their interaction rates. The only ones that have decent numbers are pixieelocks, aru.rinh, and canniny.
>>
>>9700913
>>9700914
Out of all these people, the only person who actually contributed to the community and deserves a win is Kammie. The rest are parasites.
>>
>>9700913
Did Canniny have a boob job? wtf
>>
>>9700972
You would be shocked at how many of these “kawaii Instagram celebrities” have fake followers. A lot of them have commenters you can tell are straight up bots
>>
>>9700998
This type of thinking is so bizzare. It's literally a contest to show off your style, not some community service competition.
>>
>>9700914
I wish Kammie would win
>>
>>9701082
It does factor in to the decision, people with many followers are considered more influential and therefore theoretically make better Kawaii Leaders, because they can/do share kawaii culture with a wide audience. That isn't always true in practice (see Kelly Eden) but afaik this is how this contest works.

I'm hoping for Kammie to win, she's such a cutie
or even mahouprince for fucks sake, just someone who genuinely likes/wears jfashion and participates in the community
>>
>>9701150
That's not the same as "serving the jfashion community". Their role is to spread awareness of kawaii culture, which, depsite how shitty Kelly Eden is, she has.
>>
>>9692799
I know her, her instagram is walnuttcookie. I feel like this was a bit of an odd choice for an entry since imo she has some cuter options but I'd vote her anyway since I think she's a sweetheart.
>>
>>9701181
Of course it's not the same, it's very disappointing actually, but it is what it is. I do hope that someone who's actually involved in the community and helps it thrive will win, that'll be a welcome refreshing change.
>>
>>9701983
Yea, that would be nice, but not really efficient for the purpose of spreading kawaii like they want imo. I just think it's pretty dumb to say that these girls are "parasites" because they don't "serve the jfashion community". Pretty sure that's 95% of the people who wear jfashion, this board included. It's just a style of clothing to wear.
>>
Note that voting has started - Who are you voting for, gulls?

This pretty much and she has a poor track record. Kammie pulls off the look she goes for as well and still supports Jfashion, unlike Pixielocks.

pastelbat's isn't that exciting, but it is really well coordinated and she fits the contest well, having had her own distinct styles for a while. Same for Anzu, actually, even though people don't really like her now.
Peachmilky's isn't really creative but it's pretty damn cute.

Kammie, Prince and Peachmilky I vouch for the most. PastelBat...eh. She’s past it and relying heavily on those lip pumps. Emily’s as vain as anything, Bunnie looks completely different without her heavy filters and Anzu is a solid meh.

>videos can’t be edited
Did you miss the entire Dakota Rose saga?
This girl was in a hairstyling video on FB that wasn’t edited by her and she looked different enough that I didn’t even recognise her until someone pointed it out. She is very pretty even without shaving inches off her jaw, so I don’t really understand why she does it, but hey.
>>
>>9708467
The voting period hasn’t even ended yet though. Entrants are getting emails but I haven’t heard of anyone actually being accepted as a finalist yet.
>>
>>9708484
Videos that are edited are usually done without any moving or panning shots, and have the subject completely still. Even with Dakota Rose not moving an inch in frame, it was still obvious that her features were moving around. The videos referenced in question are videos where the girl is moving and have a lot of panning shots, as well as makeup tutorial videos.
>>
>>9708488
Only 1 finalist is actually chosen by public vote, the other 9 are chosen by juries and then voted on. Look at the rules realistically; the finalists have to have promo videos for the final voting period. They obviously have to have time to make the video before the actual voting period is over.
>>
>>9708521
>>9708484
Please fucking stop, this is the same argument that comes up every time anzu or any other e-famous girl gets posted. >>
>>9709711
Can't speak for other gulls but my problems with Anzu are:
>doesn't have a style, just wears whatever sponsored shit thrown at her
>promotes knock off/replica shit.
>promotes anorexia by letting her fans fawn over her ~perfect body~
>cosplay famous with sponsored cosplays
>>
>>9709701
I have nothing personally against Anzu, she just never represented j-fashion to me. She was a weeb who got popular for wearing storebought cosplay, and because she was really thin, she got sponsored by knockoff sites and wig sites and circle lens companies. She never really had her own style, just a distinct way of editing her photos. If you search her on google images its all selfies in the same generic ~kawaii makeup and occasionally a sponsored outfit composed of nothing from a Japanese brand.

I know Pixie isn't popular here, and I'm not a fan of her either, but atleast she has been involved in the actual community, is aware of jfashion brands, and did more than just get sponsored stuff and take selfies.

I voted for Kammie, I hope she wins.
>>

>>9709742

>t. someone who has been defended by other people and now people think i'm a samefag just like this situation
>>
>>9710167
>promotes anorexia by letting her fans fawn over her ~perfect body~
ok but that's not promotion of anorexia? What is she supposed to do, gain weight purposefully just so other people don't get triggered about it? Being skinny =/= promoting anorexia
>>
>>9710269
she lies about being ~naturally thin uwu~ when she's clearly damaging her body, so young dumb impressionable weeb girls are probably feeling bad about themselves because they aren't a skelly by nature. little do they know that anzu isn't either. that's what i took from what that anon is saying. she's not promoting anorexia per se but by lying she's promoting a very unhealthy body image.
>>
>>9710173
>I have nothing personally against Anzu, she just never represented j-fashion to me. All of this. Anzu is just a walking sponsor and nothing more
>>
>>9710269
She's bulimic but claims to be totally natural like >>9710341 mentioned, plus she takes carefully angled pics and sometimes edits herself even thinner. Nothing against naturally skinny girls but what she's doing is harmful to impressionable fans who want to be like her and don't realize they're being lied to. It's the other side of the coin to someone like Momokun getting many rounds of liposuction done but acting like her weirdly proportioned body is a natural result of FitTea and working out.
>>
>>9710269
She definitely has an ED. If you had one yourself (I do) or even an inkling of how they manifest, and if you paid attention to Anzu and the things she says and posts, you would know it. Denying it just makes you look ignorant, or like you're in denial.
I don't necessarily agree with people who say she's "promoting" it. She's merely existing as someone with an ED who has a hobby. She has the right to do that without having to be apologetic or even openly talk about her struggles with strangers.
Rather, the companies who sponsor her and the people who support her and shower her current body with compliments are the ones actually promoting it. They're encouraging her to stay unhealthy, and implicitly giving other people incentive to be unhealthy. It's all pretty sick.
>>
>>9710176

This. It's as I said. They're looking for white girls specifically, there's pretty much no point in entering if you aren't one.
>>

Where is this posted because it’s not on the Kawaii.i page?
>>

4 is asian tho, that cosplayer
>>

I'm sorry but peachy and aru rinh both have such boring and generic outfits, how do either of those constitute "kawaii personal style"? I'm guessing they only made it so far because of their social media following.
Don't know who the lolita is but that coord also looks bland as fuck. What a mess
>>
>>9715877
yeah but like white asian

It's in the Kawaii.i Newsletter. It was sent out to anyone who subscribed.

Most of these are so boring. Why are they in the top? Oh, I know why, because this is a popularity contest, not a fashion contest.
>>
>>9715877
Tokenism to make it less obvious. She's not going to win.

This image is heavily appealing to pedophiles.

Don't know why you're in denial about it. It's called LOLITA for a reason, and she's surrounded by children's toys.

Why do we get tackylocks instead of someone really good? fuck this stupid bitch, she doesn't deserve it.

This contest is a sham. Only efamous girls won,it's such bullshit t b h There were girls that deserved it more imo.

The "judges" really should make note they only pick their choices based on their social media following numbers. Another popularity contest with disappointing results when there were many other girls in great outfits who went under the radar. Absolute joke.

Anzu isn't naturally skelly. I think she just lost a lot weight and maintains it well now. Here's a pic of her

I hope they don't pick her, I had her friended on facebook for a while and she is absolutely batshit fucking nuts.
>>9693817
It's very clowny but there is no child or ageplayer that would ever wear this, you guys have got to stop using this criticism for everything, it literally just looks like decora.
>>9696264
I hope this girl wins,

Funny, considering how fat she is herself.
