These look more like bizarre statement pieces than proper itabags. What the fuck are they shrines of?

There was a segment about itabags on japanese tv lately, and it's spawned a new tag if anyone wants to check it out: #わたしの痛バも見て (Look at my itabag, I think?)

Honey if you can't read the faq go back to Facebook. You don't belong here

I'm 28. I just now have some extra money to blow and I want to start a bag. No other reason than it seems like a fun hobby to search for my rare husbando merch. Unless I go to a con, I don't think I'll ever wear it out. But it will look nice in my room cause I'm a creative hermit.

Anyone here around my age? I would think so, as an adult with a job and living alone, I can spend my money however I please. Or are there 16yos who have a part time job and show off their weeb at school? Or maybe your parents like your hobby and support it? I'm just curious.
>>
>>9692168
You are on an 18+ board.

But in all seriousness everyone I've met who is serious about this hobby has been an adult with a full time job, it's just the nature of a hobby based around spending obscene amounts of money.
>>
>>9692168
I'm 27 and my bag is almost complete, I just need to figure out the layout of the merch. And I'll definitely wear my bag out, I feel like it'd be a waste otherwise, plus I do want to showcase my love for my husbando.
>>
>>9692168
i'm 27 with a nice, well-paying office job. most of my free money goes into waifu merch. i can't imagine having a parent generous enough to allow my spending habits at 16 desu but i had conservative asian parents so...

i've also worn my bags to work, not every day, but when i've been in the mood for it. otherwise they usually sit at home in my shrine but honestly i'm happy with that.
>>
>>9692168
I'm a 28 yo with a pokemon itabag, you're not alone anon. I have so much fun getting all my merch shipped to work as it's like Christmas. I wear my bag to cons but other than that it hangs nicely on my wall just like I would a poster.
>>
>>9692168
It seems that most of the people in this hobby are over 20, as a part time high school job or parents wouldn't really be able to fund actual itabagging.
>>
>>9692209
Dunno, I'm 22 and still a student, and I get enough from my parent to regularly buy merch. However my husbando doesn't have a lot of it, and it's rather cheap compared to the insane prices some other anons pay.
>>
>>9692168
I have a pricey husbando but I was still pulling something like >>9692218 for a while, you just have to go slow. But I would say anyone I know that has a decent itabag is older than 20 as a bare minimum. It's your money, and it's still more literal worth than gatchas.
>>
>>9692168
I'm 28, live alone, have a well-paid job and a lot of money-spending hobbies like cosplay, videogames, dolls and now an itabag for my sweet dear retro waifu. I don't carry my bag to work since it's a boring job at a small town in the countryside and they will freak out a bit lmao. I'm now struggling to find a new base bag that fits my merch, I began with a baby first heart knockoff bag and it got small sooner than I expected...
>>
>>9692168
I'm 27 with a decent enough job so I was able to get my husbando without any trouble even though he's the priciest little shit in the show. I just got engaged recently so my spending habits for this hobby has come to almost a pause since I'm saving up for a wedding now.
>>
>>9692168
28 here too! I rent a little apartment since I work long hours (medical) so I'm rarely home. I travel the world, sometimes I cosplay, and my husbando gets hit with character tax hard. I use a bootleg bag but the frill design suits him and I want to customize it to match his clothes.

I work hard for my income, I sometimes treat myself. Itabag is a fun hobby and I love quirky fashion! I love bags in general this seemed like an extension of my favorite accessory.
>>
>>9692168
23, but with a stable salaried career. I got an early start by graduating college at 18. I budget a percentage of my paycheck for itabagging and figure collecting. I live with room mates because I like the company, but I think my living expenses are about equal with most adults living on their own because I also pay my mother's utilities since she's retired (she had me late in life).
>>
>>9692207
I have a co-worker who flaunts her fandoms proudly (she's super nice and pretty and a really good worker too). She's super into Zelda and her desk is all little figures of Link and Zelda and other stuff. She's always on her DS at lunch too, that has that fancy gold Triforce engraved on it and on Fridays she wears Zelda fashions, either in dress form or earrings. She gets a package at lunch like every day and we always gather around to see what new Link figurine she gets or Zelda themed socks or whatever. We enjoy that she enjoys it.
>>
So remember the woman who spent hundreds on that huuuge lot of utapri. Here's the finished bag kek
>>
>>9692274
You'd think there'd be more merch in there, especially considering the size of her haul
>>
>>9692274
what a literal waste.
>>
>>9692272
that's awesome. My desk has a bunch of figures and tiny plush as well, and one of my cubical walls has a handful of acrylic keychains pinned to it. I usually have to explain to the older co workers what this pokémon is or what my new figure is but the younger coworkers are pretty chill and interested about it. Salary jobs are fun.
>>
>>9692274
They layout is actually pretty cute for a 7 year old's bag. I'm just surprised she didn't put more merch in like >>9692278 said.
>>
>>9692274
Maybe I’m alone but forgetting the rest of her haul it’s not that bad? It’s good for a first time itabag and a step above what’s become typical of the group nowadays.
>>
>>9692168
I'm 28 with three bags at the moment and making at least one more just because I can and I finally have the money to be a weeb because I'm an adult, damn it. Same goes for cosplay and everything else I wanted to do as a broke teen.
I only wear one of my bags out (the most subtle one) but the other two I display and take to conventions.
>>
>>9692168
I'm 19, and I just got into this hobby. I use a little money from the part time job I had over the summer for some merch. My parents give me money for college life expenses and I set aside a small amount of it for merch. Because of this my bag is pretty sparse for now. I'm mostly a cosplayer though, and I bring my bag to cons only.
>>
>>9692274
Can't wait for the post where her daughter loses it on the bus.
>>
>>9692168
28 and can afford to itabag and also travel to Japan every few years. It's super fun digging through store like Lashinbang, Suruguya and Liberty and find lots of rare merch or common merch for ultra cheap depending on your fandom. Luckily my own fandoms are hugely popular so I didn't burn through my bank account but my secret santas had some fairly common husbandos and I'll be spoiling them a bit.
>>
>>9692272
Good thing it's a series even normies kind of know about and respect. I can't imagine what it would be like to have that level of fandom in the workplace for something like Dangan Ronpa or Kancolle
>>
Would it be considered weird to create your own merch and display it? I'm an artist so this has been in my mind for a while now. There is next to none merch of my favorite character and I'm getting desperate.
>>
>>9692365
You could always make your own merch through manga and anime screenshots/edits on top of that. I'm considering doing a bag on Mirio Tougata but nothing exists of him so I'm in the same position
>>
>>9692365
Nah, not at all. My husbando doesn't have a lot of merch so I used scans from the manga and from doujin pages and covers to make badges and straps (I only used scans of stuff I actually owned, though). I even made some stuff from shrinky dink (cutout silhouettes and pixel art), your only limit is your imagination.
>>
>>9692358
its not really that different desu. im an sb69 anon from last thread and its no secret in the office that its my main hobby, normie coworkers just ask me a few questions about what the series actually is then move on. most of them do think the dedication is a little weird at our age but still enjoy watching my journey.
>>
>>9692370
>>9692375
I'm making an Utsuho Reiuji itabag, so far I've taken a couple caps from the fighting game and a caution symbol pin, but other than that there's nothing... because well, ZUN's art isn't the greatest lmao. I've found maybe 5 charms and 3 buttons. Im thinking of commissioning friends, maybe making a charm for now and also going with the shrinky dink idea.
Good luck to you guys!
>>
Does anyone have any experience ordering off of Alibaba? I'm considering getting some custom items due to lack of merch existing, but I'm confused on how it works exactly
>>
>>9692437
There are some resources in the Artist Alley thread you might want to check out. What are you looking to make, acrylic charms?
>>
>>9692441
Yeah, just the usual, with shaped badges on top of that. The fact that you can get custom plushies interests me though, I quite like the knock off anime tsum tsums,, Thanks anon anyhow!
>>
>>9692451
Most of the time ordering directly through chinese manufacturing services is going to be impractical for itabagging purposes, because the minimum order quantities (MOQ) are way too high.

For example, the lowest MOQ anyone has found for plushie is 250, and it's with a company who has a reputation for bad communication with their client.
>>
>>9692168
I’m 26 with a good bit of disposable income to devote to the hobby. I’m also the only visible weeb in my company full of parents with kids just entering their weeb phase. I feel like I’m explaining my interests to my own parents anytime someone asks about the figures I have on display.
>>
>>9692168
I'm 34 and live with roommates as a pseudo neet- no degree but with a pretty good job and able to travel. I've 4 itabags but am super wary of displaying any power levels in public; my fandoms attract a lot of weeb attention. Ngl I'm a weeb too but having teens screaming their names as an OL in public transportation gives me anxiety.

When in Japan was the 1st time I was able to use two in public. Hoping for the day I can use it again without being so self conscience.
at what age does social anxiety stop being a thing ;_;
>>
>>9692272
>>9692311
So jealous of you guys; what kind of fields are you in? I'm surrounded by people who like to give me a hard time for liking and having pink office supplies.
>>
>>9692168
I'm 24 and I take my bag with me to work, but I use star window bags since I feel like a heart bag would draw more weird looks. (my bags are more favorite character than husbando anyway) No one has given me trouble yet except for a closet weeb at work who teases me over my fav.

I'm a 27 year old HS sci teacher who has a daughteru itabag and a few random nerd stuff in my classroom. It's mostly to let my closeted nerd students know it's alright to be a nerd in adulthood as long as you aren't socially fucked.

I had a package do this before but if you can call up USPS and give them your info, they'll help you. Just hit 0 until you get a live person and tell them you've got a package stuck in ISC. They found mine somewhere random and shipped it out next day.

I have one of these, warning you, It’s fucking difficult to pin stuff in the lower pocket, so like I recommend putthing that the top part and sticking bulkier things in the bottom part! to be fair that's only $10 more and when you add in proxy fees and shipping you might end up with around the same price. There's no guarantee these will even be in stock in a few hours
>>
>>9694496
It's okay anon, I won an auction last week for $35. That's more then enough to pay off fees and shipping but whatever. I'm used to fluctuating prices because of my husbando
>>
>>9692207
Oh come on anon, you just can't mention a pokemon and not say which one, esp. with the amount of poke-stuff we've had in the last few threads. Heck, it's my current bagging focus at the moment; I'm working towards bags for my top 3 faves.

>>9693846
>>9693878
If you want to resin it, you'd seal the cardboard with modgepodge or something similar. That tutorial mentioned resin not sticking to plastic wrap, so I'm fairly sure the same would go for laminate.
>>
>>9694464
I just splurged and bought 4 of them despite just having bought a different bag and not having plans for a new itabag. Shit, this hobby is dangerous.
>>
I remember a few anons who inserted lights in their itabags, what kind of LEDs did you use? Any tips on how fixing the lights and hiding the batteries?
>>
>>9695119

I've seen like two bags use LEDs and not look shit in 2 years.
>>
Hey, would someone mind posting the side of the heart Wego bags? I want to do a design which involves the side but I haven’t been able to find a decent photo showcasing it.
>>
>>9695034
Did you have to use a proxy or was foreign credit card with forwarding service enough?

I also had no plans for more bags but shit, that's cheaper than the bootlegs.
>>
>>9694991
I'm the raichu bag anon from previous threads. I just don't want to seem like I'm shitting up the thread by reposting my shitty bag or mentioning myself all the time so I kept it vague.

>Heck, it's my current bagging focus at the moment; I'm working towards bags for my top 3 faves.

Which ones?
>>
>dejectedly decide to follow proxy's advice and give up on the holy grail husbando statue (only 1000 copies) I saw on Yahoo Auctions because it's damaged and without its box and would likely arrive all fucked up.
>halfheartedly post an ad on MyFigureCollection (didn't know you could do that before) and stalk through eBay in hope of finding a listing that's not 1200+ dollars
>find one new in Europe for what the Japanese one would have cost me with all the fees
>next morning, wake up to a PM on MFC
>a guy in my country selling the fig (used but with little damage) for 300 euros postage included

congrats anon! it looks like an amazing figure, i'm glad your search paid off in the end
>>
>>9695483
agreed, but it's crazy cheap and because that stuff is heat reactive theres a ton you could do to customize it lol
>>
>>9695119
I have a plan to insert lights in mine, I see most people use string fairy lights. Depending on the type of bag you have, it could be harder to hide the battery pack.
I plan on using a foam insert and carefully threading the LEDs through so the metal doesn't show and only the light bulb is visible. You could probably hide the battery back behind an insert. My bag has some space under the clear cutout covered up, so I can just hide it down there.
>>
>>9693176
If the bow and collar were flat it would look much better imo. Inside or outside wouldn't matter too much.
>>
>>9695415
Great find! It's nice to see more FFXII love now with TZA game out. I want more merch! I love the Balthier & Fran statue but as it's polystone I'm too freaked out to get it.
>>
>>9695571
I would diffuse the bulbs actually or it'll be all you can see over your merch and it'll look tacky as hell. There was a great example of someone who put the leds between the liner and merch that looked subtle, nice and brought out the best in their collection. Just made sure your lining material won't conduct heat or leave the lights on all day.
>>
>>9695568
Not really. This kind of stuff is really more work than it's worth. I'd only use it if wanted to carry plushies or pillows or something. A custom insert bag for that would be basically a fabric box
>>
I ordered this black tote bag from Movic's site but I don't need it anymore. Would anyone be interested in getting it? I got it for about $45 US and it'd be nice if I could get that much including shipping cost within North America, but I'm willing to haggle. I'm in Canada and accept Paypal.

I ordered some merch from rakuten a week ago and they emailed me that day saying they'll let me know how much shipping cost is, how long does this usually take?

I'm obviously too late for this one, but I noticed that this keychain was in a photo in the Rufflecon thread as part of last year's swag bag...

If anyone else is looking to get rid of it, I'd love to buy it!

This is hundreds of dollars of stuff? I'm just passing through this thread and noticed some people mentioning cheaper ro more expensive husbandos. Has certain merchandise gone up in price a lot because of itabags trend?

Revolutionary.
>>

The merchandise shown is easily worth $100, possibly upwards of $200. That's not counting the cost of the bag.

But what anon is laughing about is actually the size of the lot she purchased, which was posted in the last thread: >>9686451
There is a LOT of merch bought that didn't get used.
>>
>>9696695
This is adorable anon, you deserve that madoka itasha more than that one madoka bagger of fb. Also agree that a small clearfile would suit the gem better, more is less y'know.

No. We take our saggy bags and constantly stabbed fingers like adults.
>>

I dunno what's more hilarious the fact she "thought of this thing herself" or the fact she literally just shoved a box in the bag.

I feel genuinely sorry for her daughter. "Mommy can I have a hatchimal for Christmas like the other girls?"
"NO YOU'RE GONNA HAVE THIS BAG OF SOME ANIME I FORCED YOU TO WATCH!"

Oh ok, that makes sense.
Anyway, they're dratini, dunsparce, and porygon! I'm only waiting on a few more things for all of them, and I'm going super extra with dratini because I've loved the little guy for so long. He's had common cards in two recent sets, so when I saw them for like 8-10 cents a piece while buying cards I caved and bought a bunch of them to string from my base the way love livers do with their dupes. I've always loved the look and I'm really happy I can do it without endangering merch and breaking the bank.

I'm honestly hoping that the daughter actually wanted this and we just haven't seen proof yet. It'd still be a dumb situation, but at least the lady was really doing it for her child.

Wow the girl who called her out not only opened a can of worms, but is a better sister than she is a mother lmao. How embarrassing
>>
>>9697670
This bitch really pissed me off early on because she would jump into Uta Pri posts and comments bragging about what a great haul she just won. She won the $200 auction (which she likes to mention in every post), didn't even know the name of the character, just her 7 year old daughter (does she exist?) thought he was cute.
Her newest post is just looking for sympathy and is really fucking sad

What pisses me off more is I just got back from Japan and most "otome stores" had LOADS of second hand straps for 100 yen each, especially for ultra popular series like Utapri, Haikyuu and Free. I'm pretty sure there's people who make a pretty profit putting together lots on yahoo auctions from these racks and selling them to gaijin and otaku who can't afford to travel to the big cities. So unless that lot had 150-200 there's not much a deal there. Those bags are somewhat rare but even $100 for both is pushing it. I saw the pink backpack in the heart of Akiba for 4000 yen.
>>
>>9697737

>>
>>9697754
Holy shit this. Judging by these stores the YOI boys that aren't the main three much be extremely unpopular because their merch was dirt cheap. I have a friend who's Thai and a huge Pichit fan and I spoiled her rotten with brand new straps. The tsum tsum knockoffs for the YOI characters are really great quality and it felt so bizarre paying less than $5 for five of them.
>>

One of my friends is an elementary school teacher and one of her students is named Riku and has a twin named Sora.
>>

This is pretty sad. She spent $200 of her husband's money on stuff she didn't need then tried to justify the spending by blaming her kid saying her kid wanted the bag.

We have to wait for the current batch of teens to procreate so give it 5 years. At least hte power level is hidden better.

I'm pissed because Sebastian is a name that has run in my family for 500 years, but if I gave it to my son I would be immediately labeled as one of "those" moms.

I don't understand, she keeps mentioning and confirming that her daughter didn't specifically ask or care about it so why is she bragging about dropping that kind of money? I would see why she's trying for a "I'm such a good mom" angle if she excluded the part where her child had no interest really in the first place but she just keeps repeating the same thing and makes herself look more retarded.
>>
>>9698095
When she first started talking about it, she claimed that her daughter was watching the show and always liked blonde characters. She also bragged that her 7 year old was one of the few with a half naked dakimakura of Nagisa from Free (I think).
She deleted that post anon screencapped but she overeacted when people started questioning her and someone evern said the group was "mom-shaming" kek

For those with obscure husbandos where do you go to find artists to commission? I feel like I'm not looking through the right places, all the artists I've found either don't take commissions or have had them closed for months now.

This is my only option as my husbando has 0 official merch.
>>
>>9698282
Anon, please read the FAQ and past threads, it's been mentioned thousands of fucking times here that using official art/screencaps/etc. to make your own merch for personal use is a-ok. Commissioning is not the only option.

I can't really help you on your question sadly, because I've never really searched myself. have you tried the commission/commission tags on twitter and insta?
>>
>>9698282
I usually use the commissions/commission info tags on Twitter, Insta, and Tumblr, personally. Like the other anon said, using official art/screencaps is a good way to fill your bag, too, and it's much cheaper. Good luck, anon!
>>
>>9698282
Anon, you've just gotta look for commission openings in the itabag sales group. just be aware of artist schedules in regards to conventions, some artists I know will open up charm commissions when they also need to do a charm order for their own sales.

in addition to what >>9698285 said, looking at tumblr for commissions is also a good way to do it. /tagged/commission (just be wary of the lewd nsfw stuff), search for "icon commissions" and ask if you can print these onto buttons. Wackybuttons specifically has a square button option available.
>>
>>9698282
Who is your husband and what kind of style or merch are you wanting? Also do you have a budget? I know a few people with commissions open but all depends on what you're looking for.
>>
>>9698285
>>9698296
>>9698300
I've actually done the official art/screencaps suggestion. But since he's from a mobage that didn't really bother to make official art/merch for 95% of their characters there are really 4-5 images I can work with. He didn’t appear in the anime, which I’m eternally grateful for because it was utter shit.

I’ll check out Insta and Tumblr, I avoided going back to those sites for years now but I’ll do it for him. Thank you!

>>9698302
Amaymon from Divine Gate.
I’m primarily looking for badges and charms, but I was planning on asking the artists if they were okay with me making them myself using the art. Budget-wise I’m flexible depending on quality.
>>
>>9698554
I have a friend who is accepting chibi commissions if you want a link.
