If someone wants to shit talk people, at least shit talk staff member so people can become aware of just why this con has gone down the toilet. Talk about people who actually do influence the convention.

whats going to be the meme cosplays this year?
DDLC, franxx, fate/shit, overwatch again?
>>
Just ordered Rosette Collection and now I'm tempted to switch it to my teaparty coord?
>>
I'm sure a couple of you recognize me, but I always bring a "nobori banner" to Anime North every year since 2015, specifically Kancolle Lawson banners. This year I got a hold of a "FATE Lycee" nobori, "Lawson Autumn Kancolle" nobori, and "Lawson Kancolle Valentines" nobori.

I'm going to buy 3~4 more poles just for this occasion and specifically for the Kancolle shoot. You guys should plan up a FATE photoshoot next year. I'm trying to collect as many FATE banners as I can, specifically ones from F:GO Fest from 2017.

Pic related is my banner but I am not the cosplayers in question. If you want to take photos with my banner then feel free to do so, that's the whole reason why I bring it in the first place. I want everyone to take photos with my banner because no one in Canada owns one as far as I'm aware. It's a unique experience!
>>
>>9846057
I feel like there's gonna be a ton of basic bitch franxx cosplays but DDLC is pretty dead now. Fate and OW are always going to be popular. I'm expecting lots of BNHA?

I'm hoping for shitty rushed horse girl meme cosplays desu
>>
I'm banned from the main page, have they released a count of how many tickets are left yet? I'm waiting for my next pay to get one lmao.
>>
>>9846074
How the hell do you get banned from the Aninorth main website? What did you do anon? Or are we talking about their FB group?
>>
>>9846074
How lmao? And no not yet

>>9846071
There are two Fate shoots 12pm Saturday and Sunday this AN. Might as well post the shoot schedule for convenience
>>
>>9846077

The facebook group, gg no re to me. I taunted an admin about whether they'd really ban me if I mentioned Boku no Pico and they actually did it. Woopsie. 2 years later, haven't tried to appeal.
>>

>>
>>9846078

Not the worst line up of shoots, only one league one for my normie tastes but I'll live.

Also what are the chances of actually finding green hoodie/sweats combo to make a semi-decent Deku cosplay during spring? Currently inspired by S3.
>>
>>9846079
>getting banned on their FB group
Not surprised, whether or not it's the official or unofficial FB group. They're all a bunch of legitimate (((faggots))) considering how politically correct and left leaning they are. Just make a dummy FB account like I do and lurk if you want to say, grab photo dumps that people post at the end of the con.
>>
>>9846079

If you have ~$100 to shell out there's a few options to just buy the cosplay on aliexpress.
>>
>>9846099

Yea, I was considering a really shitty one from Amazon for 140 but if it's really just for one weekend, I really don't feel like blowing it on something I want to upgrade anyways. Savings homie, gotta be f r u g a l.

>buying anything from Aliexpress
And wait minimum one month for your stuff to arrive? I wouldn't risk it. Product photo does not always reflect final product either. I know you can always choose the other shipping options, but I still wouldn't do it. Rushing anything is bad idea, just wait for next year or better yet, Otakuthon in August. I mean, you'd want to enjoy the con and want people to take photos of you, right?
>>
>>9846106

Good point. Aninorth is the only con I've been going to for like 5 years though, but I'd be down for going over to Montreal.
>>
>>9846106
There's something called review photos anon. Aliexpress is pretty sketchy but if you know what you're doing it's perfectly fine to order from. A lot of Taobao cosplay shops have stores there.

I think last year someone did a Judge Anime by its Cover panel, is anyone interested in doing another one?
>>
>>9846078

Pretty sure I'll be doing the Saturday league shoot and Sunday love live shoot. Any experiences with either? I'm not a super love live fan but I did enjoy the first two seasons of muse but I somehow feel like it wouldn't be enough? I just like having Kotori as a nice comfy Sunday cosplay and thought I'd check it out
>>
>>9846480
Photoshoots are really chill, don't worry about it. Half the people there just want to dress up as cute girls and probably haven't done more than watch some of the anime. Usually they go like all of X character come gather for a photo, all of Y pairing come over, etc. Maybe some inside jokes but no one is going to hate if you don't have in depth knowledge of LL lore.
>>

I'll show up and take pictures of the cosplayers and generally just leech off of the people actually doing stuff.
>>

Sounds like it could be fun, what was it like?
>>
>>9845875
I think a Lords of the Locker Room cosplay would actually be really cool. Mark would of course be unrecognizeable by himself, and even Vance would be less identifiable solo (I'm sure some people would genuinely think you're just a BDSM fetishist), but a two-person cosplay of them together would be pretty recognizeable.
>>
>>9846574
I wish they could just got at comic con or something.

Thank you for the reply! I'm a bit awkward unless I talk about my interests so thought it would be a good place to gush over my interests and take pictures with other cute girls.

Anyways reposting my lineup as I changed saturday. (dont want to make a blog post but basically put studies over making kitty cat katarina cosplay, opted for lazy ahri instead) The rest remains the same however. I always do old shit, maybe one year I'll do something current/flavour of the month.
Not going as miku btw I just wasn't sure what weeb shit to put on for meetups/parties, no actual cosplays incase it gets dirtied

Is a yuru camp cosplay with a tent and everything a good idea?
I would set camp on a grassy area and maybe bring some props and a portable burner thing to cook some marsh mellows for myself and other people but I dont know If it would look dumb
>>
>>9847109
I really doubt that's allowed, especially if you have an open source of heat since that could be a danger. They banned photographers from even having light stands because they were clogging up the area. Dunno if you can bullshit your way into having the tent as a prop but they'll probably make you take it down. Even if it isn't technically against con rules some power tripping staff//volunteer will be yelling at you guaranteed.
>>
>>9847109
I feel like setting camp would be okay, as long as it's not in a crowded area. Definitely do not bring a portable burner though or actually cook food. A thermos would be a cute enough prop.
>>

>>9847193
Usually Saturday evening around 6 iirc but if someone has the previous years schedules they could tell you for sure
>>
>>9847109
Definitely do not bring any open or covered flames or flammable materials. You can probably get away with a little tent and props as long as you don't look like youre setting up a photo shoot with umbrellas and lights and reflectors
>>
>>9847291
If you want to warm stuff up, you could do an MRE with flameless ration heater.

Only knowing muse is more than enough for someone to go and fit in. Some people only know muse, some only know aqours and others care more about the seiyuus than they do the source but when it comes down to it we all are here for the same thing.
Like my cosplay is Aiai's inferno phoenix stage outfit for the happy party train tour rather than the inferno pheonix out that Ruby was shown in the dengeki G magazine. I'm not expecting many people to know the reference other than maybe a handful or two but I wouldn't look down those who don't know.

How much ddlc cosplay can we expect now that the creator himself is coming?
>>
>>9849666
Tons. It is really cool how we're actually getting relevant guests this year. The con will now be even more filled with normalfags who've played exactly 1 visual novel and think its the best thing ever.
>>
>>9849666
A lot.

I don't know if it'll be the cosplay of the year (much like how one year it was Attack on Titan, another year it was Kill la Kill, what was it even last year?) but it's been super popular and now that the creator is coming around, expect to see a lot more.
>>
>>9849666
Hoards of shitty cosplay
>>
>>9849666
>con will be flooded with Monikas
great

nekko do natsuki now
>>
>>9849721
Last year didn't seem to have a flavour-of-the-year that everyone latched onto. This year might be Hero Academia, and I sure hope it's not DDLC.
Even if it is BnHA, it'll never come close to Attack on Titan's heyday or even the Kill la Kill year.
Which is kinda good in my opinion, I prefer seeing more variety of cosplays. It got very tiring seeing like 40% of the cosplayers wearing brown Scouting Legion jackets.
>>
>>9850025
It's def going to be DDLC now
>>
>>9850045
I assumed its wave of popularity was mostly over by now, but I can see how the creator being a guest could change that.
>>
>>9850025
The kill la kill year had so much lewd cosplay...
>>
>>9849666
It’s all gonna be lazily done since there’s a month until the con and this just got announced.
>>
>>9850025

>>
>>9850581

>>
>>9849666
Better than nothing but it still shows how desperate Aninorth is right now. Only one major Japanese voice actor and band. We're still four months away from Otakuthon in Montreal and they already have 3 major singers to perform at the con. The big difference probably has to do with the fact that Otakuthon is "for-profit" while AniNorth is "non-profit," but it simply shows how much effort the French want to put in to make their con successful compared to the ego-filled retards of this city.

I remember when the music video for "Fubuki" came out, I really enjoyed listening to it over and over back when I still enjoyed Kancolle.
>>
>>9851300
>Otakuthon is "for-profit"
Wait what? Since when?
>>
>>9851300

Why is Ani-north non-profit?
>>
>>9851352
>>9851353
Alright it seems I screwed up. It must be the mandela effect or maybe I mixed it up with Fan Expo which is indeed for-profit. There's also a chance someone told me wrong info last year I was at Otakuthon and I didn't do my fact checking. Regardless, it really makes you wonder why management for Otakuthon is so much better than Aninorth?
>>
>>9851374
Yeeeeeeep, that's pretty much why Anime North criticism has ramped up so much in recent years. With Otakuthon growing and AN stagnating, you have a clear apples to apples comparison.
http://www.otakuthon.com/2018/partners/partnership/

It doesn't make sense (to an outsider) why the smaller con is able to score the better guests and events, or why the larger one laments about limited budgets and long negotiation times leading to last-minute confirmations when the smaller one has 4 major musical guests already confirmed and advertised 4 months in advance. All this with the same $60 weekend badge price.

But that's not the whole story. If you look a little closer you do see a difference in revenue with Otakuthon charging separately for concerts and doing the FanExpo-style premium lineskip badge business.
https://yatsumi.otakuthon.com/reg/en/index
Also note how OT has a giant block for commercial partners and sponsors right on their front page, as well as the Partners link right front and center on the website navigation. That's another boost to the budget. AN just has a program advertising link buried at the end of the "Exhibitors" drop down.

AN does have additional fee events but those are all the "in house" parties and workshops that are going to naturally have a lot less attendance than a couple thousand concertgoers.
http://www.animenorth.com/live/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=887&Itemid=233

Given the above, maybe AN is genuinely limited by a smaller budget than a con which is roughly two-thirds its size. Maybe as long as AN keeps including stuff in the regular badge price and shunning commercial sponsorship they'll keep falling behind OT and FE.
>>
>>9851413
I think that this still comes down to the issue of AN being mismanaged, since they're not capitalizing on their opportunities. Even non-profit conventions need a intelligent leader with a mind for business to maximize its potential.
Just the idea that a much smaller con might have a bigger budget and the fact that it has better guest lineups says a lot.
>>
>>9851426
>AN being mismanaged
And AN mismanagement stories keep coming back to Eileen....
>>
>>9851432
If you want to point a finger in one direction for the majority of problems AN has, point at Eileen. She should be the one these threads are full of complaints about instead of whatever tripfag some anon has a vendetta against this week. Ahe is the actual cancer that's been killing AN. If more people knew of her abuse and massive ego, they'd stop supporting AN until management changes. Since she is known to censor anyone who speaks of her negatively or questions her motives (by firing them or deleting their posts and banning them from the official AN FB group or forum), this may be the only medium anyone has to complain about her without fear. People need to be aware of this shit.
>>
>>9851413
Holy shit I didn't know they had a thing going with Idea Factory. At this rate I might just skip AN next year and go to Otakuthon for the first time instead.
>>
I'm flying in from the states to see Yasuno Kiyono, anyone got room for one more in their hotel?
>>
>>9851529
Who is this even?
>>
>>9851957
Eileen McEvoy, AN's head of programming.

Basically, a large number of AN's problems over the years lead right back to her.

She is abusive and has a huge ego. She is known to ask for a "private word" with people, then have others leave the room while she screams at them. She will fire or scream at anyone with views that oppose hers, so staff members are afraid to suggest changes in fear of losing their positions. Most departments just hope everything goes smoothly and say nothing about other departments, so things never change. She also moderates the forum and the main Facebook group and will ban anyone who speaks badly of her, badly of the convention, starts "drama", or says anything she doesn't like. She is far left politically, and it influences the con's programming. Anyone with some psychology knowledge could suggest that this is a way for her to virtue signal because she must know deep down how much of a bitter person she is.

Hard to say she's a "far left" person actually. I've spoken with her a few times and she's not a left-winger. She's from old Hamilton mindset when it was a steel and mining town and carries that kind of "my way or the highway" bullshit entitlement around. I'd say she's a shitty liberal, but not a progressive or anything like that.

What she is is a god damned abusive asshole though. I've met the people she's friends with and I have no idea how they put up with her. Maybe she's got them all licked?

This works every time. Last year I went dressed as generic tsundere #3015, and was able to full-force uppercut any man who so much as looked at me wrong. When con staff tried to kick me out I just told them I was in character, so they couldn't do anything.
It's guaranteed to work on the police just as well.

is Germany as bad as the /pol/ memes suggest? Also was Canada fitting to it's /pol/ memes?
>>
>>9857062
Ah well it's different if you've been here before. The topic of different fast food chains and other regular vendors being regional is always a wierd one since it's so easy to take for granted one's own local chains. Then again I always hear Americans talking about stuff online which I've never even seen or heard of in real life, such as Five Guys or Whatta Burger.
What's something Germany has that Canada doesn't? Like an equivalent to our Tim Horton's.

It’s okay, everyone is scared the first time.

>>9857111
There's really nothing to worry about, this is the first time I've heard of the toilet meetup also.
Just, you know, don't go to wierd creepy toilets at midnight where a lot of dudes in dresses are gathered.
I've been going to AN for 6 years and never had a problem with it.
The worst thing that happened was me and some friends were in line at the Harvey's next door to the con (it's always packed in there on that weekend, those poor employees...) and like 5 or 6 people came in over the course of a few minutes with what looked like blood all over their hands. They all went immediately to the washrooms to, I assume, wash it off. Never learned the story behind that.
>>
>>9857139
Also don't buy "lowkey" mystery meat sold out of the back of a Uhaul truck in the convention center parking lot.

If you're located in GTA area, Markham is the best place you can be. Avoid Scarborough if you can, full of Chinese drivers who should never have gotten a license to begin with. Chinese drivers in Scarborough and bordering Markham is the worst. The visa student, the new immigrant, and auntie driver kind are the three common stereotypes that are more than likely to not know how to drive for shit. Two friends of mine almost crashed onto such drivers (ironically my friends are Chinese as well lol) because said irresponsible drivers thought it was a good idea to turn on the last minute on a 50km/h road. Thank God for superior Japanese breaking system, Jesus Christ.

Markham is the best because all the best restaurants are located there. First Markham Place is KING when it comes to great food. Danny's Fish and Chips located near Markville Mall is really great. At New Kennedy Square, Keung's Restaurant is very good for their Oyster Congee. Opposite location at Langham Square has great restaurants too. For Chinese style noodles, Wonton Chai is TRUE Hong Kong style noodles.

Pacific Mall 2nd floor is not half bad either, but I'm not a big fan of the food in that food court. Syogun Sushi located near Costco at Woodbine Avenue is one of my favourite AYCE sushi restaurant as well as Ka-ka at First Markham Place. For Dim Sum, Grand Lake Chinese Cuisine & Banquet is recommended if you want to try out curry baby octopus. Meanwhile, NKS Banquet Hall is really great for their super mild chili sauce, can't get enough of it.

Ever since Market Village shut down, it was a bummer because some of my favorite restaurants used to be there. Majority of restaurants there are currently moving to Denison Centre.

Pmall, Market Village (closed), and Denison Centre are located in Scarborough, but a block or two away is Markham. For Denison Centre, always make sure your windows are up and doors locked carefully, that area is a "crime area."
>>
>>9857297

I'm not going to AN, but your post took me right back as I frequent the Scarsborough area (agree with crazy fucking Chinese drivers though, everyone is fucking crazy and my cousin nearly crashed into one going the wrong way on a lane). I need to return. I didn't realise Market Village had closed, wtf. Sage for OT.

To continue what I've said so far, because majority of Market Village restaurants moved to D-Centre, there isn't enough store space. Rumor has it that the back portion of the mall is being renovated and enlarged to give more space to the "refugees" from M-Village.

For bubble tea I will only permit two locations guaranteed to make you addicted. Fruitti Mix at First Markham Place (Unit #F239) and Fruit Jungle at Splendid China Town (New China Tower/Mall) Unit # 2FC1. Both places are located at the Food Court. Ask for only the following for best results: Hong Kong Style Original Milk Tea with Tapioca.

Taiwan style Bubble Tea can fuck off, I can't stand the amount of sugar they put and how artificial they taste and most of them are run by (((corporates))) like CoCo, Chatime, or ShareTea, etc. Fucking shit shit shit fuckity fucking shit. Every fucking time I ask them less sugar or darker tea they can't fucking do it.

Fruitti Mix is so far the best as they are family run and very inexpensive (tax included) and best blend mix. $2.50 gets you a Medium, $3.50 at large, and $5 at jumbo size.

For Toy/Hobby stores there are two at FMP. Toys2 located right hand side of food court and go straight up and Tokyo Papa further down. Toys2 great for Hot Toys and 1/12 scale figurines from Hong Kong, and Tokyo Papa has great selection of Tomica and Pla-rail toys for minicar collectors. Both stores only sell authentic products, no bootlegs.

At China Splendid Tower, the Hong Kong style restaurant next door to the AYCE Sushi restaurant is pretty good with good pricing. Daily specials are a plus. Please be aware of X2 Game Store at China Tower, the owner is a massive faggot who will act like shit towards you if you knock anything over since you only have literally 2~2.5 feet of walking space width wise. Also guy won't care about you if you don't look like a richfag type, not to mention his shit is overpriced at 3~4x the market value compared to AmiAmi or Hobbylink Japan.

I think I've been there. There's really no room to move around comfortably, so if you're a big guy, well, good luck. The stuff they have there seem cool but way too pricey for my tastes. Just nice stuff to look at any time I happen to pass by. Didn't know the owner was actually a jerk though.
>>
>>9857321
> Taiwan-style bubble tea

So you're saying you don't like bubble tea, you like HK milk tea with pearls. Got it.
>>
>>9857347
Man, dumb shit like this is why people think 4channers are assholes. How is a trans person going to make it any more about them being trans than a cis person does being cis? But also, most trans people have gone through some shit, so it naturally informs a bunch of who they are.

I'm not trans myself, but the way some fucks on this board talk about trans people is just childish and stupid.
>>
>>9857409
No, some bubble tea shops are weird and will ask for confirmation if you want tapioca or not. This appears to be a trend at Taiwanese owned chains because tapioca is "additional cost". The same trick is used at Ajisen Ramen. Just a tip for you guys, Ajisen Ramen don't know how to make good bubble tea, it's shit once again. They can't blend things properly and the quality is inferior to ones purchased from those Chains. Everything else at Ajisen is top notch, particularly their curry rice and miso soup.

The HK styled Bubble Tea shops at FMP don't typically ask such questions because tapioca is included anyways. You just want to play it safe and mention the full name to make things simple for the cashier woman.
>>
>>9857413
Normally I'd agree with this but like in any group there are some real fuckin annoyances: the amount of times I constantly see trans cosplayers/lolitas making completely unrelated things center around them being trans is irritating as all hell. Like, "do I have to wear a wig with my sailor moon cosplay if I'm trans? Will you still accept my cosplay?" or that chick from the last ita thread confidently claiming that the rules of lolita dont apply to her because she's not a cis woman. Also because of the shit some of them go through, some have sought out pretty specific company both online and irl and therefore seem to have lost the ability to have any conversation not about pronouns, oppression or transitioning, like bitch I just asked you if you liked yesterday's episode of a popular anime??
Obviously this isnt everyone but like >>9857347 said that particular subset is just annoying as hell, same with the tfw no gf guys, vegans, kinksters, self-idenfified-entrepreneurs, shoplifters, furries etc who do the same thing. Like don't base your entire personality around one trait and you'll be infinitely more pleasant to be around? Like I dont have to shoehorn in 4chan, my cosplay, my anxiety or vision disability or my baking skills every time someone asks me to prepare a couple documents in the office, because I have common sense of context and a fleshed-out personality not centered exclusively around one hyperfixation. It's not a double standard: there's just no reason why they and everyone else can't do the same.
>>
>>9857562
You sound like someone who has empathy problems. Unless all you do is hang out with really young people who are just dealing with their problems for the first time or are in continually oppressive spaces, very few people act like this. But what I have encountered is a lot of normie enforcement from people who don't want to empathize with struggles or lives that aren't like their own. They're the same people who complain about Pride and gay people as being "hypersexual" or somehow offensive to their normalcy. That's called defaultism, and it's an annoying habit – one could even call it a hyperfixation – that many people have when they're confronted with lives very different from their own. They form that whole ingroup/outgroup mentality that sees itself as normal and disdains any endured devience. It's essentially thought policing but in a disingenuous, passive mode.

TL;DR: get over yourself anon.

>That's called defaultism, and it's an annoying habit – one could even call it a hyperfixation – that many people have when they're confronted with lives very different from their own

Oh shut up lmao that applies to everyone. What is a con if not a gathering for socially awkward circle jerkers? Not liking people who base their whole personality on one trait is a valid opinion. Not liking normies who act like dicks is also a valid opinion. You sound offended no one here wants to listen to you crying about being oppressed. And then you blame your shit personality on white privilege.

You're exactly the type of person people worried you were, don't bother coming we aren't accepting of you.
People are trying to calmly and logically explain why their prejudices and biases exist, and how accepting they'll be of you if you aren't annoying, and you flip the fuck out and jump into personal attacks steeped in psych 101 bullshit.

>They form that whole ingroup/outgroup mentality that sees itself as normal
That is literally at the core of the human brain and our social structure over the past hundred thousand years has been built on it. And "normal" is defined by the statistical existence of common factors among the majority of people in a group.

I'm not the same anon asking about if this group is trans-friendly, but it's also clearly not if you're speaking as a rep. If someone has prejudices, that's on them to get over themselves, not on marginalized persons to cope with their abusive tendencies.
>>
>>9857775
Being a marginalized or minority person does not give you an automatic "good person that should accepted by all" card
>>
>>9857775
No he's not a representative. There are trans people that come to every meet and everyone I have seen is as friendly to them same as everyone else but dont expect invites to parties later if all that comes out of your mouth is how oppressed you are and how often you change personalities or orientations.
>>
>>9857824
No one's arguing that it does. The problem is that it's often a "no we don't like your kind" low-key prejudice issue that keeps trans people out of certain circles, so asking up front is a protective measure.

Finding a person annoying and not wanting to hang around them because of their behavior =/= abuse. people like you are the reason real abuse victims don't get taken as seriously as they should, fuck off.

Anyone is allowed to dislike you if you're acting rudely and trying to make every conversation about yourself, calling it disguised whatever-ism to cast yourself as a victim doesnt change anything

>>9857562 here, sorry for the late response, this seems to have gotten really out of hand. To clarify, I'm not the same anon as >>9857347 and was trying to mostly agree with you in the first place. Most trans people I know are normal chill af people and it's nbd at all. I'm happy and comfortable having a conversation about you, your identity, transition or experiences no problem, or you relating something to your experiences like everyone else does, it's only the small subset of people who derail everything unrelated to them that bothers me.

They're present in the trans community, about the subject of being trans, just like I specified they are in every other community. There's one (cis woman, if it matters) person in our local comm who does this constantly with a cartoon they like: talking about that cartoon is fine even though I don't care about it much myself, but when the conversation's shifted to, say, someone else's severe difficulties following a nasty breakup, continuing to redirect the whole conversation to that cartoon again becomes tacky and really annoying in my experience. I can understand the defensiveness given other people's attitudes here but honestly all I meant to do was voice a general pet peeve and claim that trans people are no more free of it than the various aforementioned groups. In retrospect, I should've reread it before posting, since in the moment my wording definitely came off more aggressive than intended (probably due to my current pent-up frustration with the aforementioned cartoon girl and a couple similar who keep making meets super awkward and then complaining when they arent invited to hang out as much outside of them)
>>
Speaking as a trans person, I'd like to just chime in and say that while I agree there are people who can harp on about identity politics needlessly, it can also be a pretty important discussion and shouldn't be treated as "annoying" by default. It's really important to a lot of us especially when we're younger because it may be an ongoing struggle and a major part of who we are in that cycle of our lives.

Now that said, yeah there's limits on everything. It shouldn't always be the focus and combined with some people's personalities of just being narcissistic, it can be really tiring. That does go for anything of course and it's kind of the same as someone who just won't shut up about their favourite waifu or husbando when clearly no one else cares.

The ONE thing that bugs me from earlier in the thread is anon's assumption in

>>9857347

that this would be a default problem. It isn't, but it may say something about low-key transphobia in anon that they should probably think about. That's really all I gotta say about this.
>>
>>9857904
that's....actually pretty reasonable and well said anon, I definitely agree.

OP here. I hadn’t expected my comment to create such a heated debate and I admit that it is my fault that I had not clarified my thought.

The comment I made was based on an experience I had which went as follows:
>meet pleasant group of people in line for a past convention
>hit it off and exchange social media
>run into them again
>hang out for a bit
>one member of this group doesn’t seem to agree with a pairing I like
>they then proceed to treat me like an asshole about it and I debate my ship with them
>we part ways
>later on, read their ‘vague’ posting about meeting someone at the con who likes the pairing I do (assumingly me) who was an asshole to them because they were trans

They had somehow shoehorned the fact that they were trans in a situation that wasn’t asking for it. My original intent for this post (while thinking about this situation) was that as long as you were a chill person who didn’t feel the need to shoehorn your gender identity where inappropriate or unnecessary, I would be ready and willing to be friends with you. People are shaped by their experiences and I agree that realizing your gender identity informs a large part of who you are. However if we disagree about a pairing in a Japanese cartoon, it isn’t because I hate your opinion because you are transgender, it’s because I like another pairing more.
>>
If you show up to the meet up and the first thing out of your mouth is "Hi my name is X and I use xyz pronouns" you can sure as hell bet that not one will talk to you and you probably wont be invited to any parties.
>>
>>9857926
Pronouns are important tho, why does that even bother you?
>>
>>9857929
Because you are blatantly asking people to cater to your mental illness.
Look I don't give a fuck what you were born as, I dont give a fuck what you think you are in your head and I certainly dont give a fuck what you want to be identified as.
>>
>>9857933
>>9857929
If you want to be treated as person, then ill treat you as a person and refer to you as your name.
If you want to be treated like a mentally ill person, dont worry, I will treat you as one by ignoring you.

There should be no reason to need to define pronouns because if you want to be called a girl you'll look like one and if you wan't to be called a boy, you'll look like one. And if your "pronoun" is outside of that then maybe you should get a grip on reality.
>>
>>9857929
I've never been able to understand why pronouns would ever be important to anyone. Although I can't understand gender identity either, but I feel like that's a different, although not seperate, can of worms.

It doesn't help that pronouns debating over the past few years has been annoying and seemingly endless, giving rise to prominence the worst and most obnoxious people on either side of the fence.
>>
>>9857948
I don't think that rule-of-thumb has worked for a long, long time now though. Sure, guys are fairly identifiable since the acceptable forms of clothing we can wear is fairly limited, but girls have been sporting short hair, jeans, shorts, etc for decades now. A feminine-looking guy could just as easily be a tomboy (although even that term's become outdated with even feminine women adopting the jeans and unisex t-shirt style).
>>
>>9857934
These are conflicting statements. Most people have some form of mental illness, ranging from light social anxiety to suicidal depression.

>>9857948
You should probably not pretend to be a psychologist.

>>9857950
I believe it has settled on "some people are trans, some people are genderfluid, when in doubt use 'they' and if you know, use what they ask for."

This is not hard.
>>
>>9857950
gender identity is literally just self expression and pronouns are how you woule like such identity reflected. gender presentation on the other hand is how you actually look and what people judge you on/about, it is the judging of a book by it's cover

>>9857347
I am trans as well and I wont deny it, I have an unintentional habit of being that fucking idiot trans but only when I'm experiencing bad gender dysphoria. Honestly just treat it as someone talking as if they're depressed and gonna kill themselves, just get away from whatever discussion topic and move on. If they're being too retarded even then well I really dont know what to say.
>>
>>9857993
Sure most people do have somesort of mental illness but they dont start a conversation declairing that mental illness and stating that they want to be treated specially because of it.

You want to know why? because no one would fucking talk to them.
>>
>>9857993
>most people have some form of mental illness
Not that I'm agreeing with the baitposter you responded to, but that statistic isn't true. Going off of some volunteer work I've done that's involved CAMH initiatives, the estimated percentage of Canadians living with mental illness is about 1 in 5, and yes this is an estimate and includes those undiagnosed or not-reporting. While I'm inclined to believe that the number is a bit higher, saying most is just wrong. If anything, my guess is you're basing that simply because you spend time around a lot of people within that 1/5, which frankly are over-proportionally represented in anime/EGL circles.

And so I'm not being totally off topic, first time going to AN this year. More inclined towards non-anime cons personally, but a friend of mine who I haven't seen in person for a while due to school is all for it, so I'm looking forward to it just to habg with them.
>>
>no one cares if you’re trans, just don’t make it the focus at a meetup
>transposters do exactly that in the /cgl/ thread

Like pottery. If you mentally deranged asshats want to be welcome at the meetup, this sure wasn’t the way to go about it. It was all said and done with >>9857347 but everyone assumed that’s what the implication was, not just a possibility that frequently occurs.

>>9858047
If you're comparing being trans to a mental illness, you're an asshole and no one should be friends with you anyway.

Okay Yall faggots listen up.
in 2016 i went to this and some asshole turned it into a no booze allowed party in his room. So naturally we bailed.

Myself and some friends then went to a bathroom with all our booze giving out free drinks to anyone who was down to stay and party. Which caused (Pic Related)

I'm down to toss some free booze again in the same bathroom as 2016.
It will be at the Bathrooms where the anime showing rooms are near where all the nerds play card games in the Delta Hotel formally known as the Double tree.

>>
>>9858222
Being trans is not a mental illness. No psychologist or psychological association defines it that way. Having gender dysphoria is a mental illness that is treated through transitioning, in whatever form that may take (whether by revising personal appraisal of gender, adopting other forms of dress not associated with the problematic gender norms, having reassignment surgery, etc).

Defining trans as a mental illness is insulting AND misinformed, and constitutes bigotry. It's like saying a burger is made out of/is the same as ketchup merely because it contains ketchup.
