What are you going to dress up as this Halloween?

Pic is me, I dressed as a Lich last year. I'm thinking of doing it again, but I'm also thinking of other concepts that are a little more classic-horror. Haven't started on anything yet, which is a problem! I am especially nervous about the makeup job; my face was originally just caked in smudged eyeshadow, and then I met a wandering makeup artist who corrected it and made me look appropriately villainous. I'd prefer to have full control over the process but I don't think I have enough time to figure it all out...

I love going out to bars on Halloween and getting to be spooky and cool. I wish costume parties happened more often during the year, but at least we get like a whole week at the end of October!

I'm a huge fan of all things horror so feel free to recommend or discuss anything that gives you ~spooky~ artistic inspiration. I love new things and old things alike!
>>
>>9992248
Oh no, my picture turned sideways :(
>>
I want to be mothman but I'm working on a huge mech build with a strict deadline so no time :/

As for spooky inspiration, I feel like certain classical pieces like Danse Macabre are criminally underrated as spooky sources of inspiration... also eastern european pagan ritual costumes have always been an influence on my halloween costume ideas.
>>
>>9992400
Danse Macabre is my favorite spooky song, it just screams classy dancing skeletons to me.

This year, I’m probably going to be Christine Daae. My hair’s finally grown out enough to curl nicely, and I’ve got a nice ivory dress all lined up! Now, if only I could magically turn into a soprano.

Using some vampire fangs and over the top makeup as an excuse to wear one of my favorite dresses. Will probably get a lot of shit for this from everyone who says lolita should never be incorporated into a costume.

I'm a huge fan of old horror movies for inspiration. Make it a habit to watch one every day of October, and plenty throughout the year too. Recently had a Romero marathon, and out of the bunch would have to highly recommend Night of the Living dead to anyone who is unfamiliar with his work and Martin to any hardcore horror fans who don't mind VERY graphic and disturbing psychological horror.
>>
If we even get an opportunity to dress up, I think my fiance and I might go as undead pirates. We put together pirate costumes for our state Renaissance Festival earlier this year, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to throw those on and add some zombie makeup.
>>
>>9992411
Nyart, but that sounds fantastic! I've always adored her dress. I'd die to see anyone dress as her in person.
>>
>>9992593
Any tips for spooky makeup? I'm EXTREMELY intimidated! No fucking clue where to begin.
>>
>>9992580
>Will probably get a lot of shit for this from everyone who says lolita should never be incorporated into a costume.
I'm not a lolita, but why? There's so much material to work with there! I love the outfit. Personally I think a purple eyeshadow would go nicely with the outfit, but red would definitely make it pop. If you chose a different makeup look, you could even try a haunted doll costume or something.
>>
>>9992866
There's a ton of sfx artists on youtube. Try "zombie" "halloween" "gore" makeup tutorial or other key words. The best way to get better is to practice though!
>>
>>9992248
>I love going out to bars on Halloween and getting to be spooky and cool.
Same here! It's my favorite holiday - and the same month as my birthday :)

Usually I like to plan my costume a couple of months in advance, but my father suddenly passed away this year in addition to a bunch of other life events and it just threw my groove way off track. For the first time in my life, I wasn't going to dress up, but this year I tried cosplaying for the first time and it reinvigorated my spirit so I threw together a Heathers costume. I sure hope it's recognizable.
>>
>>9992869
You're very sweet, thank you.

Some lolitas are so wrapped up in keeping people from associating the fashion with costuming that they'll be upset when people use dresses and/or accessories in costumes. I understand, they want it to be taken seriously. But I have worn other street fashion before as part of a costume if I really like a particular dress, not just lolita, and feel that, like all other fashions, lolitas shouldn't be afraid to wear it how they wish.
>>
I got big plans. I'm even getting some of the elements for my armor machined so that they look cleaner and more professional than a homemade one
>>
>>9992248
My family and I actually do Halloween every year where we set up our porch (or garage, whatever we're doing this year) and we dress up with our mannequins.

We have wolfman, lady mummy, Dracula, and I want to say Frankenstein as well. We also have trees my mother made from carboard tube that she glued together (about five or so feet tall) and used stain to color it black/brown, then she stripped bark from a dead tree and glued it on.

Looks like a real tree, used the knots in the wood to form screaming faces.

I'm the one that hands out candy.

One year, I was sitting there with my mom and a kid (little girl) came up on the porch. She leaned over, looked me right in the eyes (I was frankenstein at the time) jumped off the porch screaming "No! No! He's there again!"

Later one girl was scared just with the porch as it was, but when she leaned over to get some candy I shook the bowl and she started crying.

Felt real fuckin' bad man, so I took off my mask so she'd calm down seeing it's just a mask and I let her have her pic of candies. Poor girl, probably gave her nightmares!

Building a gundam outfit this year.

I have a pair of scleras I want to use, any ideas? I was thinking just doing a skeleton make up, another thought was to do a drag thing and make a black widow, but then I'd have to make a dress and I sincerely doubt I'd be satisfied with the little amount of time I have.

Another thought was werewolf, I have fangs and I could make some decent fur parts and sfx make up but IDK about contacts.

Any fun ideas for sclera costumes? I'd prefer something that's not a direct cosplay but rather just themed or inspired, I have a few wigs on hand (mainly black) and can't really justify getting a new one just for this. My natural hair is brown and semi-long because ICBA to cut it, lol.

Gambit from X men? Or is that the wrong color?

If it was me I'd probably go for a wendigo look.
>>
>>9993542
Yeah, they're all black.
Wendigo is a cool idea, but wrong folklore so I don't think anyone here would have any idea what I was going for.

Nah the story of the wendigo is pretty well known now. It's well entrenched in modern folklore with stuff like Until Dawn and Pet Sematary, and is a really compelling Amerindian myth. I would go for it. Basically an emaciated werewolf with antlers.
>>
I'm doing big suit David Byrne. Several of my friends are really big Talking Heads fans, and the look of it is idiosyncratic enough that I think it'll still land even if people aren't familiar with the original.

What do people even do on Halloween as adults? Where can you go if you have no friends?
>>
>>9994126
Marathon scary movies, read tarot cards, go night hiking to spoop yourself, make spoopy craft items, binge on candy and get drunk, ready scary stories, go camping/make smores, dress up and scare your neighborhood children because it's the one night it's socially acceptable to do so, make a sacrifice to satan. Endless possibilities if you aren't a dumb pessimist.
>>
>>9993698
Thanks. I'm trying something more fit for my build this year, and slightly more technical by creating a Sazabi using papercraft as a base and fiberglass from there.

>snazz is better
>snazz is "a little pricey"

If your greasepaint is cheaper than snazz, of course it's shit. use a real brand, some good primer, and then seal it with powder and spray. Even properly applied water based paint (and especially shit like snazz) will crack/sweat off way before properly applied greasepaint budges.

Alright so I settled on making a devil costume. I have a devil's tail, as well as horns. For the outfit I have a black paisley velvet jacket (shifts in red, too, absolutely gorgeous) that I'm planning on matching with just a white dress shirt + black bow/tie.
I have a red and a black lace front on the way, but I'm not sure on what to do with them! I really like the devil-as-businessman concept, but just with the jacket being what it is its obviously less conservative, so I'm a bit unsure about what to do with the wig. Also not sure what to do with the make up, was thinking just adding some red around the eyes.

Any ideas about hairstyles and make up would be appreciated!

Also IDK if I should do wings? I don't really have a good way to attach them, since I don't want to damage the clothes.

We keep having the same discussion in the fursuit thread, where suits that aren't even MLP gets deleted, causing the thread to derail because report-happy fucks don't recognize the actual purpose of a rule as much as they're excited about the opportunity of being right on the internet.

My campus games club runs our board game nights on Wednesdays, and since that coincides with Halloween this year, myself, as well as the other organizing members of the club are going to go as the characters from Coup (pic related). I doubt they're going to be amazing, but the goal is to make it recognizable as a fun thing. I'm doing the Ambassador, for which the only issue is doing the turban as a white person with campus culture being a thing. I'm thinking I may be able to style my already orange hair into a similar shape then hair spray it solid.

I'm thinking of doing the Bride of Frankenstein since I have a stupid amount of green makeup left over.

Gonna copy some ideas (mainly the glow in the dark lines) from here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDpVFAOtYq4 and pair it with some white hair extensions and just throw my already naturally messy hair in a high bun.

Costume should be easy. But idk a lot of other costumes for the bride tend to have her in white skin even though a lot of makeup tutorials use green and frankly I do like the green look better. Especially since this'll be my work costume as a bartender in a gayborhood bar so the more campy the better.

Any ideas on where to get a couple simple white hair extensions? Preferably curly.

The pattern I'm getting has my size and requires something like 2,1/8 60" wide yard whatevers which is what Ill get from b&b tart. Only other thing Ill order are suspenders and buttons, and the dixie flag, I can make a kepi from leftover cloth or find a slouch hat. I wish there was more costume parties also. I mean the next one that I’m really gonna dress up as will be St. Patty’s day (although I could be a Krampus). Then I wanna dress up as the mad hatter on April fool‘s day...... but ya Halloween is the shit!!!!

I’m dressing up as the same costume I was last year. Last year I had shingles and then I became sick with a little cold so I couldn’t do much partying. I still dressed up for the festive holiday but this year I am actually going to go out to bar crawls and parades and the like. Picture is from my evil scarecrow costume that I took last Halloween.

I have everything ready except I’m going to get some corn shavings and glue them on. Some are still on and I see you some others in a plastic bag from last year. I knew once I put them in a plastic bag that they probably wouldn’t make it since they were a little damp. Well my hypothesis was correct and when I was reaching for the costume bag my hand went into that bag and it was just goo I felt. When I finally pulled out into the light I saw was black mush.

Besides that I just need a new white tee to paint.

I’m trying to think of any work appropriate anime or video game cosplays I could do for Halloween, since we’re encouraged to dress up. I’m drawing a blank though. My uniform is all black so I’d prefer an easily recognizable character by hair/face/makeup alone.

Dear god please help me. I LOVE making costumes so I have no idea why I’m totally lost on what to do.

I do concept-y stuff and not specific characters usually. For some context in the past I’ve been cake, the night sky, a butterfly, and an octopus. My goal is definitely to do something that is realistic in the time I have left before Halloween, which really means that I can’t do any props. So no worbla, no sculpting no scepters etc. most fabric based things I can probably do in the time left. I’m quite a good seamstress if that helps.

Please help me, I am at a total loss .___.

Can I ask a question in here?

im trying to follow this tutorial https://youtu.be/fhjBBPnmPPI

but I cant get the white face to look any good, im using pic related as the white cream makeup and its cheap as fuck so maybe thats where my problem is?

if so are there any recommended brands for white cream makeup? and if not how else should I go about getting a white face with good coverage (that I can put other makeup on top of)?
>>
>>10006171
If it’s really weak or you might have to layer it. So put on a thin layer, let it dry, and then do another. And try putting something on you can use as a base like a light foundation or primer.
>>
>>10006171
The best way is with an airbrush. You can get a really thin, comfortable foundation that wipes off easily.

The only problem is airbrushes are really expensive and you'll also need an air compressor.
>>
To the person wanting spooky makeup. If you want nothing too over the top just creepy, wear yellow/red contacts, use black eyeliner like you would normally for anime shaped eyes and add dark pink or light red blush under the eyes. If gives just enough of an effect of creepy without being gory.
>>
>>10006171
that is shit and your face will hate you.
On amazon you should look for white waterbased facepaint. Greesepaint goes on easier but will make you break out.
You do thin layers with a wet makeup brush or sponge, then put on setting powder and setting spray. Look up tutorials on youtube.

I'm planning to dress up as a basic white girl for the entire week of Halloween, but I'm unsure on what to wear, and where to attain the attire. Is it pathetic of me to not even know what the hell "leggings" are? Aren't they just yoga pants with a different name?

This is OP, I've decided on doing Lich: The Repeat and I want to put more effort into the makeup side of things.

For the robes I'm not gonna try too hard. Just gonna take some heavy ass fabric and shroud myself up.

I have some glow in the dark stuff, but I don't know how to use it. The body paint rubbed off sooo easily and I haven't tested the makeup from the halloween store yet. Since I'll be going out to bars, it will actually be really striking and obvious that I'm glowing, but I'm not quite sure where to do the effect or how to make it work. I could just do LEDs, but I think it's too late to fiddle with the wiring...
>>
>>10006562
How did you seal your body paint?
>>
>>10006291
If you don't want to spend a lot, go to your nearest thrift store.
>leggings, black or patterned
>shirt from PINK
>UGG-like boots, or moccasins
>large scarf
>Northface-like fleece jacket or large sweater like the guy on the right in your pic
>put your hair in a bun, wear a slouchy beanie or a sporty baseball cap

Go to your local Starbucks and ask them for a cup, they'll usually give one to you for free nbd but if you're nervous just order something and wash the cup out afterwards.

If you don't want to go the starcucks cup route and want a different prop, you could also get plastic bags from somewhere like Forever 21 or North Face and stuff them with something light until they're bulging.
A conspicuous infinity sign or butterfly tattoo or something similar would also be a nice touch.

Might try and get a wig and go as Gearless Joe, cus my normie friends don't know Yabuki Joe.

But looking for an actual decent bomber to keep and wear on a daily basis as well, I have no idea where to look. Definitely don't want something cheap looking. The material here doesn't look great for everyday use. And honestly I would probably just use velcro for the patches so I can remove em.

Anyone have an idea?
>>
>>10007272
It's hard to find one with that collar. However, if you're willing to forgo it, there's one from Forever 21 for $32, and two from Amazon for $19 and $40
>>
>>10007274
Nuts. Yeah I realize that the design itself makes zero sense, since the idea of the bomber to begin with has no collar.

Definitely willing to spend more for the collar.

This year I want to go as a viking to work, so I prepared
>armor, heltmet, shield out of cardboard and felt, hot glued
>beard out of yarn
>fur cape out of fur carpet from Ross folded in half
>sword from spirit Halloween

However I finished it in a weekend so I have all this free time, so I'm gon a make a couple more armor sets as more card board becomes available
>>
>>10007618
I'm also working on a roman armor set, but I ran out of cardboard so I barely finished the lorica segmentata and cape. Once I get more, I'll make the helmet, shin guards, shield, and I'll just buy a gladius from a halloween store if I can find it for less than $15.

Previous years I'd end up spending more time on the weapon props than the actual costume, so this year I'm just buying them to keep myself on track.

prescription colored contacts. Try websites like pinkyparadise or honeycolor. Just take a look at your contact box and it should say what your prescription is. If not, ask your optometrist. Be cautious as it is your eyesight, but with a little of background research you will be safe. I wouldn't buy em off Amazon or something.

I've used Honeycolor plenty of times and never had a problem. It isn't so much about the site you use as it is the specific brand- Look at reviews for whatever pair you're interested in and see if they're comfortable/not drying etc.

PP and Honeycolor are just well-known and reliable for shipping etc., do your research on the brands they have listed and see what would work best for you.

What >>10010346 said. Practice poses in whatever you wear so when you get a picture taken you'll know how to make it more flattering. Lift your chin. Turn at an angle that looks best for you. Don't hunch your shoulders, pull them back, and it does a ton of things for how you'll look when you get your pics back. I can add 10 lbs to my neck if I'm turned the wrong way, looking down or over my shoulder, ugh.

Pick flattering clothes and not just some out of the box cheap costume. There might be some adjustments you gotta make yourself but it's worth it. You can still be cute!!

How do I make spikes like these, and get them to stick to my skin?
>>
>>10010991
Wire and modeling wax. There was an Engraver cosplay a few years ago that used it for her arm "needles". Basically build a mound of wax where you want the "spike" to go in, shove in the wire and boom spike. You can disguise the wax with body paint- this guy is super pale and bloody so that should be easy.

With them being on your back I'd be afraid of them getting stuck on stuff and pulling off, though. So keep that in mind.

She would not be OK with posting photos here, and I'm not really sure what her plan for Bowsette exactly is from the patterns yet - seems to be based off a corset she already has, I think the shell is going to be a backpack, and I don't know about the tail (she's asking a furry friend for advice I think?) or horns or crown yet. At least the collar and the cuffs are easy!

Morticia is, I freely admit, from-the-wardrobe lazy cosplay for me - I have some very goth friends and it's a present from one of them that I don't really wear a lot because you do have to be a little careful not to trip over. I'm definitely going to have to wear a corset underneath, because I don't really have the cleavage to pull it off otherwise. The makeup's also going to be a little tricky - hooded eyes - but I think I can do her justice well enough.

She actually said that to me too. lol

Going as Barnacle Boy and the SO will be Mermaid Man since we caught ourselves eating dinner at 5PM the other day so we could study and sleep around 9.

if you live in any big city you may be able to find some fake yeezys and such.

id also ask /fa/ how to spot fake items
>>
I'll be going as Dr Fujita! I'm a bit lost on where to get the patches on her lab coat, but generic rainbow logos should be fine for one night.

Most likely All Might cause I just love the make up and the character. Also banana suit.

so cool! nice job

craft foam would hold up better. It's $1 per sheet at Michael's and 2 sheets should do you fine

from Maniac on Netflix

>>10011479
You could get away with using an Eileen Ripley patch set. She has a rainbow shaped one that looks very similar

Opinion on wearing latex animal masks at halloween parties?
>>
>>10011505
Looks very good, w2c wig and suit?
>>
>>10011819
Uncomfortable, you won't be able to drink or talk to anyone while in character, cool for some pics but whenever you take it off your face is blushed and sweaty from the heat and your hair is a mess.

Dont wear to a party.

Anyone have experience doing a faust costume from guilty gear?

I’m currently working on a platelet cosplay from Cells at Work

But I’m having a bit of a Goldilocks problem

What are some good anti-manlet Halloween costumes?

Are you trying to ask for costumes for tall people?

Just finished making my halloween costume/cosplay for my next con, for the most part. What kind of wood stain would be good for the broom handle, though?

looks pretty good m8
>>
>>10012137
I do, what do you need?
>>
>>10012259
Well for starters, how do I get a paper bag to have that black hole he's got instead of just cutting a hole open and having it see through
>>
>>10012269
Sorry I don't think I understand, you don't want to make a hole?
For the ones I did I measured a bag to my left eye, made a mark on the bag the I used a sharp knife to cut a X AND + on the mark, and folded back the paper to get it.
>>
>>10012273
I do want a hole, but is there any way to have some sort of black cloth in the peephole that i can see through, so you don't see my eyeball?
>>
>>10012279
Ah, okay, you can do a few things:
1.you can use a very thin fabric and cut a square, use a brush and dab a thin layer at four corners of the eye hole or a square around the hole. Place the fabric on it glue and Very carefully press down if you put too much force then the glue could bleed through
2. Get a bigger bag, see in the Pic you posted? The bag's too small, get a bigger bag, practice in the mirror of tilting your head, a trick I do for photos, is I tilt my head so that the eye hole is not directly aligned with my eye, this will cause the eye hole to appear darker
Hope this helps a little

Thank you very much, I'm happy with how it came out. Next step would be buying some sclera contacts.

Do you guys make Halloween props or ignore them?
Pic related. Font spread through town
>>
>>10012812
It's hard to make props when most bars have a lot of restrictions on what you can bring in.

I haven't done anything for Halloween in absolute years, so now that I made new friends who actually like doing things I have no idea who/what to go for this Halloween. My friend found a cute unicorn horn at a store yesterday so she's gonna whip something related to that up. Dunno about the other girls.

What are some cute, simple ideas? I fucked up my thumb and pointing finger so sewing is out of the question. This is kinda cute but I'm a little worried about the quality...

Someone at work came up with the brilliant idea that everyone should dress up as characters from Where’s Waldo (Where’s Wally if you’re on the other side of the Atlantic). I don’t know if I even want to follow through with this.

So I wanna make myself some "potions" to go along with a wizard cosplay I am doing. I do not want to use water to fill these, and I just want a blue, and a red potion (Mana and Health, respectively) What other, thicker fluids could I use besides water to fill these? After I am done I am planning on adding them to a shelf for display and was hoping whatever fluid is mentioned will hold it's color stored over very long periods of time, or won't separate into the fluid and the color. Maybe some kind of oil? I have no clue.
>>
>>10013098
Maybe Gatorade? I've never seen it separate on a shelf. After you're done, I'd suggest replacing the liquid with resin though.
>>
>>10013104
Is there any way to keep the resin viscous? I would like to be able to move it around a bit incase someone were to pick the bottle up.
>>
>>10013107
no it is not possible. How about jello?
Or lube. unless you are avoiding all liquids.
>>
>>10013112
My issue with liquids is that I feel like water isn't ever thick enough, visually. It feels too "thin" and I don't want a solid block of resin in a glass bottle. I was hoping for something less than room temperature corn syrup but more than water. Like, milk would be a good consistency desu
>>
>>10013117
corn syrup diluted with water..?
>>
>>10013119
But what would you use to color it? Wouldn't food coloring separate eventually and just collect at the bottom or something? That's my biggest worry...
>>
>>10013121
No, corn syrup and food coloring are both water-soluble, so it won't settle once it's been mixed.

My school is organising a biological hazard party. I'm in the organisation so I have to dress up, but I hate this theme and 99% of the search results is pic related when I look for ideas. Please help.

isn't it hard to sew through thick fabrics by hand? it's painful, isn't it?
