My sister has acid reflux and is a vegetarian. She needs to avoid acidic and spicy foods (she even tries to avoid pepper which I think is a little excessive but whaterver.) What dishes could I cook for her?
>>
Just put some extra baking soda in it to neutralize stomach acids
>>
Sneak tiny bits of spice into the food until she builds up a tolerance
>>
>>21738160
Five alarm beef chili all day every day.
Subject her to a trial by fire until she moves out or decides to give up on her retarded self-imposed resrictions
>>
last night i omeprazole burgered your sister
>>
>>21738160
Broccoli cheese soup
>>
>>21738160
A glass of water with a tsp of baking soda mixed in it and a bottle of tums. She will be ok then you can cook whatever acid food you want
>>
>>21738160
>She needs to avoid acidic
has absolutely nothing to do with acid reflux. nothing you can eat is more acidic that your own stomach acid, nor can it increase the acidity of your stomach in any measurable way.

she either has a hiatal hernia or she needs to lose weight.
>>
>>21738287
This is supposed to cause long-term issues if you keep doing it. Lowering your stomach acid can cause bacteria to enter your intestines and lower absorption of some nutrients, and it just hinders proper digestion.

Might sound counterintuitive but some people have less acid issues if they consume more things like vinegar for whatever reason but results with that will probably vary depending on the cause.

Some people have food intolerances that can cause acid reflux, I get it a lot from eating beans or grains which are both commonly consumed in large amounts on vegetarian diets but I have no issues with things like potatoes.
>>
>>21738236
>omeprazole
if you take this for more than 2 months without blood tests and taking extra B12 you can get neuropathy. ask me how I know.
>>
I’d bet your sister has an eating disorder. But anyway, you should just google GERD or acid reflux friendly vegetarian recipes and pick something you would also enjoy eating. Normally i would come up with some options but this isn’t a food puzzle I’m interested in desu
>>
Unironically meat.
>>
>>21738305
it takes like years to get b12 deficiency unless you're an alcoholic
>>
>>21738160
I hope she spits stomach acid all over your faggot face, frogtard.
>>
>>21738160
Any ingredients she really likes? Are beans or dairy trigger foods?

>>21738305
Are you better now?
>>
>>21738160
A nice steak
>>
you should fuck her
>>
>>21738299
>has absolutely nothing to do with acid reflux. nothing you can eat is more acidic that your own stomach acid, nor can it increase the acidity of your stomach in any measurable way.
doesn't matter, she is also a little bit into alternative medicine and a hypochondriac so even if I would explain to her that avoiding acidic food is pointless, it wouldn't make a difference
>or she needs to lose weight
nah, she is fit and has a perfectly health weight
>>21738422
>I’d bet your sister has an eating disorder

>Are beans or dairy trigger foods?
not that I'm aware of. I think she really likes feta cheese, and despite being a vegetarian she sometimes eats fish like salmon
>>21739386
illegal and immoral
>>
>>21738485
well dumbass I'm not an alcoholic and don't drink at all, and it took about 2 years. my doctor didn't tell me that I should not take it for that long, nor did he monitor my B12 levels. I only found out when I went to a neurologist because my feet felt dry all the time. My taking omeprazole coincided with reducing my red meat intake. when I went to look for information about how long you can take it I had to dig deep in the manufacturers website and even then it did not specifically mention b12 deficiency. it just said that you needed regular blood tests. luckily I stopped taking it, and got my B12 levels up before it spread to my hands.

fuck off with your Accusatory bullshit you vagina blood fart.
>>
>>21739177
>Are you better now?
no neuropathy is not reversible. I got of the med, and started B12 it seems I also have some kind of condition where I don't absorb B12 as well as other people, so I never should have taken it at all. but I didn't know. they had to do a specific test to find out.

vegans don't know how much they need B12 the only natural source is meat. I know a vegan and he has to take synthetic B12 supplements.
>>

>vegans don't know how much they need B12 the only natural source is meat. I know a vegan and he has to take synthetic B12 supplements.
milk and eggs have b12, they're a pretty good source of it.

if you're still taking b12 then you should try taking methycobalamin if you haven't done so. it's much more bioavailable than the cheaper cyanocobalamin which is in most supplements, and cyanocobalamin ends up blocking b12 from food because it's taken in such high amounts and poorly absorbed.
>>
>>21739644
I'm not accusing you of anything. I'm an alcoholic and I got b12 deficiency in like 6 months on 40mg omeprazole. Went to my gp with random stinging pains all over my body.

>vegans don't know how much they need B12
they do, and do supplement with it

>Micronutrient status and intake in omnivores, vegetarians and vegans in Switzerland
While vegans had negligible B12 intake from food, their blood markers were similarly good to omnivores because of high supplementation rates

>Nutrient Intake and Nutrition Status in Vegetarians and Vegans in Comparison to Omnivores - the Nutritional Evaluation (NuEva) Study
Confirmed that vegans taking supplements maintained adequate B12 status, often outperforming vegetarians who assumed they could get enough B12 from dairy/eggs (but failed to do so)

>Relationship between Vitamin B12 and Cobalt Metabolism in Domestic Ruminant: An Update
In modern agriculture, animals often do not graze on natural soil rich in bacteria and Cobalt. Therefore, the B12 in meat is frequently the result of industrial supplementation.

>My sister has acid reflux and is a vegetarian

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT ANTACIDS IS A LIE.

GERD = NOT ENOUGH STOMACH ACID TO CUE THE SPHINCTER TO CLOSE.

DO NOT USE CANOLA OIL OR ANY EQUIVALENT. THIS WILL EVENTUALLY PARLAY INTO GALLSTONES WITH THAT RETARDED DIET.

^perforce, TANGY things.
>>
>>21740454
Also-- use ALGAE OIL. She needs the Omega-3s. Highest smokepoint/most oxidative stability, no downsides.
>>
Cheesecake factory Evelyn's favorite pasta. It's basically pesto based.
>>
>>21738160
Get her a wedge pillow, lots of omeprazole (One 20mg pill every morning 1-2 hours before breakfast) and Aluminum and Magnesium hydroxide with simeticone right before bed.
Avoid all kinds of hams and i hope she likes honey and bifidobacterium and lactobacillus pills.
>>
>>21740454
>>21740457
based and correct

Did you know that some doctors have successfully treated GERD by dosing their patients with hydrochloric acid? The working theory behind the treatment is that their GERD suffering patients had such low levels of stomach acid that their stomach sphincter did not get the chemical signal to close. It remained chronically open and thus spilled stomach acid up into their esophagus. By adding hydrochloric acid (stomach acid), it balanced out their chemicals and closed it.

There's a whole post about it on the a midwestern doctor Substack. I'm not gonna look it up right now but you can if you want to.
>>
>>21741238
You should mix ~1 tsp magnesium hydroxide with 1 liter of carbonated water to create magnesium bicarbonate, the most bioavailable form of magnesium.
>>
>>21740450
>>Synthetic B12 is better absorbed in many populations
saying "in many populations" is dishonest. that study just says older people with worse digestion need more supplements.

>>Synthetic folate being more bioavailable
still, this one is interesting. it has been an issue with supplements that a lot of them were poorly absorbed by the body but there are better forms still being made. iron supplements in particular were pretty bad and people needing them were often being made sick by them, but iron bisglycinate works well with minimal side effects.

because she doesn't like animals being hurt. she also freaked out when she realised that her lamb skin boots were made out of lamb skin
>>
>>21738160
Some peppers are not as spicy as others. You could try using white pepper from a milder variety like Sarawak.
>>
>>21741267
OK that's still a physiological issue. you can't drink hydrochloric acid every time you have a meal. What you've said is unhelpful spherical cow nonsense.
>>
>>21745918
Wow anon the other anon is trying to give you solid helpful advice you can decline it but you don't have to call him names. I think your sister is a cow and she should learn to not be a little bitch and take some dick to the throat this way she can get some animal protein without
>harming the animals
QQ
Maybe you could help her this way in the ultimate act of brotherly love!
>>
>>21745963
I'm not op but if I had a sister I'd give her plenty of brotherly love

Love these threads where people think that’s is exactly one cause of acid reflux and think Hillbilly Bumfucker MD has THE IRREFUTABLE ANSWER to fixing it.
>>
>>21738160
>has acid reflux
avoid oily foods, esp close to bedtime. Avoid overindulging or being too full, before laying down. No alcohol, or minimal. No garlic rolls or pork fat such as sausage, it floats in the stomach and leaks up into the esophagus. Gassy foods that are hard to digest like bell peppers do the same, peel if possible. Really acidic foods like drinking lemonade or orange juice, or bitter coffee vs cold brew, irritate already pissed off tissues.

>>21738160
Black pepper and peppers literally trigger my acid reflux, this shit is no joke and can completely fuck your life up. I pretty much need surgery or to take pills every single day and even then it acts up.
>>
>>21739646
>>21738305

I'm 1 month into pantoprazole, maybe I should pick up some b12... Though my diet is quite high in b12 already. I should probably get a blood test in another month or something. Though I heard panto is better for longer periods than omeprazole.

Why hams? Also, I heard GERD and reflux can be treated with probiotics, but how much do they actually help? Will drinking Kefir cure this shit
>>
>>21746186
people watch one youtube video or read one post about how sometimes not enough acid is the cause and then think it's the cause for everyone. It's also why keto keeps being recommended by the most random people.

I'm not, I never had any health issues like that and I'm sure as fuck ain't vegetarian. believe it or not little frog nigga, there are people who have siblings and want to do something good for them every once in a while

>you can get neuropathy. ask me how I know
I have had that shit in my feet for three years, I must have been a diabetic for at least four or five years before that without knowing it. It was discovered only like five weeks ago. Shit sucks.
>>
>>21746186
LOL reminds me of that reddit thread I read a few weeks ago about that guy who gave himself horrible acid reflux for 25 years or so because he always swallowed pills dry and they got stuck in his espohagus halfway down. Ironically his anti-reflux pills too. Dumbass started drinking water with his pills and his reflux was gone.
