G.I. Joe #1Transformers #14
Upon reading the issues Transformers is actually first.
>>146335120>>146335125>Starscream giving a shit about POWswat
>>146335126he was young
>>146335179niceput the fleshlings in their place
>>146335193he didnt kill the autistone of us
Now GI Joe.
The people demand Jem and the Holograms.
>>146335120>>146335125Why the fuck would Megatron need to transform into gun mode when he can just blast them himself with his arm cannon?
>>146335268>you know the limits of my powerCould be anything from some kind of program blocking him or a public image he needs to maintain.
>>146335282I think that line refers to him needing someone to pull the trigger when he's in gun mode
I don't speak Russian, but using an app it roughly translates to:Baroness: Shut up you pig, or I will slice your throat.Stalker: Try it and I'll drag your ass to your mother and father so they can see what has become of their daughter. They brought you into this world, they'll wish they could take you out of it.
Support your local comic store!
>>146335268I mean it’s clear that Megatron can mind control those who wield his gun form so it could be just a giant power move on Starscream
>>146335388That's what I was thinking. Megatron can't be seen doing it, but this way he can have his will done.
Rough start to Gi Joe. I might be taking it off my pull list.
Honestly I just now realize how much Corona's artwork is carrying the Transformers book. The writing of it is really mid. GI Joe is GI Joe. Don't care for it, won't start to care for it.
>>146335435Buying something means making something of a commitment to me so I always give books a full arc if I was interested enough to be on my pull list. I'm incredibly underwhelmed by this, however. I don't know if it was because of how much I hyped myself up for it, the hype of the marketing, the build up and wait for it, but whatever it was it fell with a dull thud.Right off the bat, the coloring is atrocious, I was immediately turned off by the preview when it was released. I don't have any other complaints about the art, but Jordie Bellaire is very rarely good and needs to quit her job. There is no breathing room. What little down time there is is used entirely for exposition. I am a Joe fan, I know who these characters are but when you have people like this >>146335495 who clearly doesn't what are they going to get out of it? You need to be bringing new people in. You've married Transformers to this, why are those fans still disinterested? Because there isn't anything of note so far outside of the Cobra Commander miniseries.I really hope this turns around. Like I said, I commit to the first arc and then drop it if I don't like it. Right now this is fully in the drop pile and it has until the end of volume one to convince me otherwise.>>146335495Could not disagree more. Corona was ruining the book and Howard is such a massive improvement. Corona felt like he was doing a bad DWJ impression and never came into his own. Howard is actually bringing his style to the book. The real issue is that Daniel Warren Johnson isn't drawing this himself, that was the big draw to the book. It had an energy and tone that wasn't like anything before. Corona brought us back to just being a Transformers comic. Again, Howard's is an improvement, but it is very filler flashback art. I feel like I'm back reading IDW again, I don't like it and I want DWJ back. I don't know why Kirkman didn't throw more money at him instead of letting him go do his own books. Big mistake there.
>>146335540>I don't like it and I want DWJ backI want DWJ off the book. I don't like his writing and I don't like his art either and it sucks that I'm stuck with him for almost another year before I get to pull the slot machine to see if the next creative team won't be this mediocre slop we're getting now.
>>146335165Horton's getting way more than he bargained for
>>146335388And for lack of a better word Megatron is clearly grooming Starscream for the position. >>146335127 shows him getting more and more in to it
>>146335282I like this as a way to put in 80s laser blastersTechnically dodging the censors by putting in something worse
>>146335628My biggest issue is that we were sold this as G1 when its WAY darker and edgier. It feels like Bayverse with a G1 skin than actual G1. Other than that I have no complaints about the writing. I love how trigger happy DWJ is with the deaths. There are so many characters that we can get fan favorites in and out and bots like Beachcomber can actually shine.
>>146335785Its a lot more Ultimate Universe G1 >>146335351I'm another anon not overly familiar with JoeDo they have the same supply of bodies as Transformers where they can just mow through people like this?>>146335373Thanks for dumping anon
>>146335813>Do they have the same supply of bodies as Transformers where they can just mow through people like this?Absolutely not, GI Joe is a very small and tight knit cast.
>>146335193Not pictured: Blitzwing with his football coach
So Starscream has a cat now?
>>146335101Heh.
>>146335813>I'm another anon not overly familiar with Joe>Do they have the same supply of bodies as Transformers where they can just mow through people like this?G.I. Joe has a cast of hundreds of characters and only 20 or so of them matter.Duke, Flynt, Lady Jaye, Snake Eyes, Scarlett and Roadblock.Shipwreck, Bazooka, Dail Tone, Quick Kick, Native American Guy... and Sgt. Slaughter. And that's already pushing it in terms of fucks given. Duke's team is made of almost all expendable Joes. Baroness will obviously jump ship and hop on Destro's dick the first chance she gets. It's doing the same dance as Transformers where it's all Ulitimate G1 and killing off YOUr favorite 80's toy is the only spice added to this 40 year old goulash.
>>146336255Stalker was like one of the main guys when someone was storytiming the old comics a while ago.
I have no idea why baroness is a good guy and I don’t like it.
>>146336364Blaster and Shockwave were the main guys of the old TF comics. Comics be makin' shit up all the time, yo.
>>146336420Baroness is not a good guy she's on work release because Duke was an outlaw and is presumed dead.
>>146335813>>146336255This is absolutely nothing like Bendis/Millar era Ultimate. Quit using that.
>>146336427The cartoon is a poor adaptation or the original story.
>>146335268So he can make his soldiers "loyal" to him, i mean it's pretty obvious he's been conditioning and grooming staracream
>>146335318Kek and she blushes
>>146335750Heh thats exactly what i was thinking too. classic laser censorship
>>146336468>So he can make his soldiers "loyal" to himIf this is the spin it's the cheapest, laziest shit I've ever read and a complete insult to Megatron's character.
>>146335813>>146335928>>146336255If they do get trigger happy i hope they don't end up offing Chuckles or Jinx, i like Chuckles, he's some guy in a hawaiian shirt who makes a few jokes. Since they're gonna go all edgy, he can be like one of those dudes from Sicario/Cold War shit where they look like a normal guy but then they pull out a gun and a ballistic vest or something.
>>146336536Kelly Thompson made it sound like Jinx is here to stay given how brief she was in IDW.
>>146336453No
>>146336364Stalker was only prominent back in the day because he was one of the original characters in the toyline.
>>146337042That already puts him above half the Joes that person listed.
>>146336453When they stop ripping off character beats from MCU >>146335310 I'll stop comparing it to Marvel comics.
>>146337093The fact still remains that most of the iconic GI Joe characters weren't in the first wave of the toyline. Stalker has been a pretty minor character outside of Marvel comics.
Are Tunnel Rat, Long Range, and Heavy Duty important?
>>146337156Are Beach Head and Gung-Ho??
>>146337117Ultimate pre-dates the MCU, why use it?
>>146337117Cover Girl is blond, dumbass.
>>146337195If you are Cajun and need a positive role model.
>>146337225Only for the beginning where they had unfinished models. In the actual show she has brown hair.
>>146337255So then its referencing IRL shit and still not the MCU.
>>146337225
>>146337290She looks like she knows Timber as well as Snake Eyes does.
>>146335190>the cat on his shoulderCute.
>>146335193>>146335190Why do I have the feeling that the cat is more than just a simple cat?
>>146335190>starscream now got his own cat mascotone more signal that he is getting redemption and maybe windbladealso how fucked up this is, His clan was wiped out by the autobots, megatron mindraped him to be his best killer, and when he finally snaps out of it he goes full early idw1 leader starscream.
>>146336085Villains need a right hand cat>>146336255When she does, I guess the heiress with an EMP implant could always decide to go for a living weapon whose entire body is made out of metal instead of settling for a dude in a mask who makes weapons.
>>146335193This feels like a different spin on G1 Starscream's attempts at a power play using the Combaticons
>>146335211So after months of teasing we're finally getting Bruticus next month, if this is anything to go byI wonder how they're going to fix up Brawl to make it happen.Of the 7 decepticons on Starscream's team now none of them historically have any medical experienceStarscream qnd Soundwave were able to patch Skywarp into Teletraan, but that could be described as clumsy at bestIt might maje a bit of sense to recharacterize one of the combaticons as more of a field medic and use the HISS tank as spare parts. But I can't see Starscream giving up his mobility until another means is secured
Bump
>>146335165Feels weird to see combaticons actually like Starscream for once, usually they hate him.
>>146338746Maybe Image starscream is IDW starscream.i may be surprised if it was Bee or Cliff who made him betray megatron saying that his clan's extermination was planned by him.
>>146338746Very cute Bra
>>146335373Thanks for storytiming anon, I look forward to it every month. >>146335813Joe absolutely has hundreds and hundreds of characters to pull from. But like Transformers, they only use like 1% of them any given time. So does it matter a major Joe got fried? Technically, no. But this is like killing off Iron Hide, basically.
>>146335540>why are those fans still disinterested?Because corporate retards (aka executives) don't understand you can't put one thing into another thing and expect fans of the first thing to give a single shit. There is very little overlap between TF and Joe fans, beyond maybe people like myself who grew up with both toy lines in their prime. And even then, I don't give a shit about GI Joe too much. They had neat toys and vehicles and bases and shit, you know, in the 80's, but past that? They don't make that shit anymore. And if they did? It'd cost 5x as much and use 10% of the plastic, and the plastic would be shittier quality to boot.
>>146336532>tyrant bends people to his willWhat's out of character exactly?
Is this collected in hardcovers yet?
>>146339196There's a softcover trade for the first 6 or so issues, I think. They don't do hardcovers until they have like 5 years worth of material dude.
>>146335125>Despite being the gun, he dominate the shooterRad. I like the grooming angle, it makes Megatron and Starscream's relationship more intimate.
>>146335351This was a good issue
>146336532>megatron is finally given a good reason to be a piece of shit pistol without his most treacherous soldier immediately crushing it to bits as soon as he gets his hands on it>this is somehow an insult to his characterYou fags are fucking unreal
Risk is either Zartan in disguise. Or pre-burnt Snake Eyes.
>>146339147Yes, you can. You just have to make it well made. Scioli's stuff is a great example of that.
>>146335120>>146335125>>146335127Megagroom...
>>146339610Anon, as fun as that stuff was, it was not something that would achieve a corporate retards mandate: Sell a gorillion copies to normies. And don't even pretend it would.Remember, at the end of the day they're not trying to tell stories, they're trying to shore up GI Joe barely treading water by attaching it to a far more popular brand.
>>146335193>decepticon civil waryup, i'm thinking kino. guessing Brawl's going to get repaired so we get Bruticus vs. Devastator. Astrotrain's a bit of a beast though, feels like it leans more towards Starscream's side without any additional big hitter on Soundwave's side now that Shockwave's out of the picture, so i'm hoping somehow Soundwave gets a boost.
>>146339696The issue in this thread is doing that.
>>146335359I count 65 Beards.
I hope with that chunk of cybertron on earth now the autobots can scavenge enough to bring at least some offline back.
How many issues are the Joes going to be convinced the Autobots are bad guys?>>146339757Soundwave's got the Constructicons and then only Thundercracker, right? And I can see this situation making TC throw up his hands and walk away from the whole thing
>>146339927>How many issues are the Joes going to be convinced the Autobots are bad guys?Probably a while. I can totally see them killing off a few Autobots and then just be more convinced they're evil when the Autobots defend themselves.
>>146339927yeah, that's what i'm concerned about. Soundwave's only really got the Constructicons, and they'll be busy fighting Bruticus. even if Thundercracker stays, I doubt he can put up a good fight against Astrotrain, and iirc, Soundwave's cassettes still need repairs. Starscream's also probably getting his legs back, so Soundwave's team will probably need another big hitter assuming we really do get a big fight sequence between the two teams. Blitzwing seems like the most obvious pick, but i'd like to see someone else. maybe Octane? but it'd be a bit boring in general if it was just "leader vs. leader, combiner vs. combiner, triple changer vs. triple changer"
>>146335238I'm never getting long hair blonde Cover Girl.
>>146339927>>146339957Sneak preview of the Joe's chasing down Beachcomber before killing him.https://youtu.be/r6SZa-Mj-5o?si=2GMrh9CdHANAvfBL
>>146340259Not Beachcomber!
>>146339504>I like the grooming angle, it makes Megatron and Starscream's relationship more intimate.who's the real fag, here?Decepticons follow Megatron because he's charismatic. They admire him as much as they fear him. >his most treacherous soldierThis is a flashback, Starscream is still a scared street punk. If anything, gun override is meant to explain why he's so disloyal and it's dumb.
>>146335064KekRead TF already and not reading Joe but bumping anyway.
>>146336483eastern euros love BBC
>>146340311>>146340259Cat=Spike.
>>146335540Corona was a step up from Johnson. Johnson did the Transformers better but his humans were super ugly; Corona did both very well. Howard's Transformers are too smooth. None of them are great at paneling but that's to be expected from modern comics.

Hasbro, I know you're desperate to make GI Joe as big as it was 40 years ago, but this is hardly the "Comic Event of the Decade".
I'm starting the Skybound TF run rn, is Void Rivals worth the read
Its funny how people are still pissed about Ratchet's death, though. Can't blame 'em.
>>146345250I'll just re-post something I wrote for a dead thread asking the same thing>Do you like the G1 Season 3 characters? >Do you want a bit more info on the Energon Universe's lore beyond what the main TF comic might present? >Do you like the aliens G1 introduced beyond just the quintessons? If your answer to any of these questions is "yes", then I'd say it is worth a read, I'd be lying if I said reading didn't help me much through the wait for each issue of the main comic

>>146344796My one big complaint about Cobra Commander is that he set up his organization WAY too quickly. In the original Marvel, it took him years to recruit a bunch of disaffected people and gather enough resourcers for Cobra to be a global threat. In Skybound, he did all in a few months at most, I don't care how much Energon you've got, secretely recruiting thousands of people to be loyal to your cause is not that easy.
>>146347846Hickman doesn't write any of these.
>>146347870He didn't recruit thousands. He didn't have to. He took the smart route of getting greedy, misanthrope billionaire weapons and PMC conglomerates on his side with a superior energy source. Catching up to Transformers #13, and so far, it feels like a lot of set-ups and "Suddenly, THIS is happening!" Seeing Shockwave was cool, but seeing him dipping and getting got by Optimus felt a bit rushed. Also, I'm not down for Elita's attitude.

Kind of unrelated, but his Armada Hot Shot supposed to be a cross of Hot Rod and Bumblebee?Like in Armada, he looks like Bumblebee, then in Cybertron he looks like blue Hot Rod, with a transformation sequence similar to the first toy and even has the pipes.

>>146353641Yeah but >When asked about the Bumblebee name, designer Aaron Archer remembered looking into it, but thinking it was too generic at the time!
>>146353743Aaron was a bit of a scatterbrain. It was a trademark thing. They didn't clear it up until right before the Bay films.
>>146336255I'm guessing that Flint and Lady Jaye's other GI Joe team that Duke doesn't know about will have a few more recognizable Joes.
>>146334994Bump
>>146334994I won't lie, I'm rapidly losing interest in the Energon Universe. There just doesn't seem to be any actual meat to bite into once you get over the shock value.
>>146355607Eh, I'm sure it'll pick things up in the next few issues with the whole civil war between combiners, I will agree that this whole subplot with Starscream's past served no purpose, though, it's a better explanation as to why he WOULDN'T deliberately want to hurt weaker beings, these two issues would definitely be easier to digest if they got rid of that and focused on the fallout of Prime's choice instead
>>146339076>But this is like killing off Iron Hide, basically. This is one of the original 1982 Joes, but he didn't really have a huge role in the 80s cartoons or comics, they got a second heavy machine-gunner in 1984, and Roadblock is a much more important, more popular character. This isn't like killing Ironhide, it's like killing Sideswipe or Bluestreak, someone who's recognizably part of the original cast, but didn't really do anything noteworthy. For comparison, IDW's last GI Joe reboot killed Duke at the beginning of the first issue.
>>146355801it's the constant in media res, it's draining to read >>146355607it's being dragged hard by GI Joe, that's for sureVoid Rivals may be slow but it's at least trying to introduce characters, world build and run a plot at the same timeGI Joe is hanging on the assumption that you're only reading because you already know everything about a toyline that died in the 80s and therefore care about these extremely 80s characters who are also very shallow and one-note, a thing which inexplicably doesn't seem to apply to the Transformers in the same settingthe Scarlett mini was probably the best, Cobra Commander got dull fast and Destro was meh, both riding that nostalgia dick hard, but they're all waaay below Void Rivals and Transformers in terms of giving you a reason to carelike I get that GI Joe always had ninjas but it's not fuckin Daredevil, and even if it was I don't give a shit about ninja clans and their ancient incompetent secret wars between each other that everybody and nobody knows about, it really feels like Hasbro is back there salivating at the prospect of just using toy bios and molds from half a century ago to sell a new generation of landfill and not like anybody at Skybound really gives a shit about the GI Joe franchise as a wholebut then how could you, half the time it feels like a flying pirate ship is gonna show up and start boarding an aircraft carrier, such a dumb collection of ideas
>>146356012Reminds me of IDW's Hasbroverse, were they called GI Joe its "crown jewel". Yeah, no.
>>146356012>like I get that GI Joe always had ninjas but it's not fuckin DaredevilDidn't Daredevil lose momentum when the book became entirely ninja stuff?
>>146356012>half the time it feels like a flying pirate ship is gonna show up and start boarding an aircraft carrierY-yeahWho could possibly want that>Cobra Commander got dull fastF U Cobra Commander was the most entertaining protagonist of all those minis
>>146356214>Who could possibly want thatWe have a few dedicated anons who really really hate GI Joe, plus a lot of Transformers-only fans who just seethe hard about Transformers comics being in a shared universe with other Hasbro properties they don't care about. And that one guy who thinks Hasbro should have turned GI Joe into a Call of Duty knockoff to modernize it and is angry about it still revolving around characters and designs from the 80s.
>>146335495Art's important to a comic. More important than the writing. It ain't a book.
>>146356012>GI Joe is hanging on the assumption that you're only reading because you already know everything about a toyline that died in the 80s and therefore care about these extremely 80s characters who are also very shallow and one-noteIf only the better children's toylines got this kind of treatment.
>>146356603I wouldn't mind if TF shared a universe with ROM again.
>>146356773Bionicle?
>>146356773Lego company tried that once and it flopped. Better to remain with the dead and positive memories.
>>146355607I don't know how you could be reading Void Rivals and be saying that. Granted, that is doing a lot of heavy lifting. They took so long setting up GI Joe, but I also remember them saying it would be six miniseries before a proper Joe series so even they thought it was too dragged out. Transformers seems to finally be finding its footing, but Joe is really retarding it.>>146356012Holy shit taste. CC > Duke > Destro > Scarlett. Cobra Commader was the absolute peak of the series. Masterfully introducing so much lore and characters effortlessly. It was a genuine delight. Duke was a standard Joe comic, but it was competent and set up a ton of interesting character beats and plots. Destro was middle range, at best. It didn't feel like the writer's heart was in it. It set up what it needed to and then got out of the way. If it weren't for Thomspson coming out and directly saying Jinx and Scarlett weren't gay I'd have said there was absolutely nothing going for this series. Horrifically dull, confusing, awful art, and just all around the worst of EU by far.Based on the rest of your post its obvious you're just anti-Joe and that's really sad. G.I. Joe has more character depth than Transformers and I say that as a big fan of both.>>146356028Shut the fuck up, Boco.
>>146356012Cobra Commander's mini was the best out of all of them you tasteless shit. Him being a turbo autistic murderfiend was great.
>>146356603GI Joe sharing with TF is fine, the problem is a lot of people just don't give a shit about GI Joe in general. It's a dead property that Hasbro keeps forcing on people that never bought it in the first place. Your average TF fan gives no shits about Joe.I grew up with it in it's heyday of the 80's, owned dozenss of the figures as a kid along with a bunch of the vehicles and a few bases, and watched the cartoon, and I still don't really care about it beyond "Oh, cool, I remember that.". I'm here for Transformers.
>>146356773Damn, the "Bayformers-ized" reboot Power Rangers were uglier than I remember.
>>146357129Can’t wait until new Chameleon gets a Classified figure.
>>146357129>G.I. Joe has more character depth than TransformersGI Joe has The Last Laugh, Transformers has The Last Stand of the Wreckers. Its not really a fair fight. Yo Joe!
>>146357161it's boring, it's three issues too long
>>146357129Duke was so boring and so long ago I honestly forgot about itthe Rory Calhoun of exposition miniseries

Bump before bed
>>146358244No, that's just cat behavior.
>>146358244given the necessary forces to pulverize a human body (and even skeletonize one which is downright weird but that's what we're seeing) that cat probably has a concussion, which is super bad for you
>>146360828Hope Starscream knows a good vet
>>146362142Soundwave but uh
>>146334994Thank you OP almost overlooked this>>146335094Well fuck
>>146357110The Bionicle reboot was fucking ugly. Nobody wants a remake anyway. We want a continuation of the original story that ended in 2010.
>>146353607kinda nuts some of these name consideration. I think its crazy they were mostly designing the characters without a name to go with from the get go. Armada Sideways was almost Ravage, Doublecross and Cy-Kill. my lord.
>>146364881>We want a continuation of the original story that ended in 2010For who? Manchildren?
>>146365032>He posts on a GI Joe thread on a comics board
>>146364881The original story ended rather decisively. You shouldn't turn it into Star Wars where they add a bunch of awful things and taint the parts you used to like.
>>146364881Please no, anything but that. Leave it dead.>>146365104There was much more GF had planned, but we don't need it.
>>146365104There's actually a fair amount of unresolved plot threads.>Velika still out there murdering people>Kopaka and Pohatu still stuck on the Red Star>Lewa is busy dying in Bota Magna>A being called the Marender was built by the great beings specifically to kill toaEtc
>>146335133>he promised me MegatronWhat does that even mean
>>146366626Astrotrain has a hateboner for Megatron in this comic and Soundwave originally recruited him after digging up the Nemesis by promising that they'd find Megs for him to finally take his revenge.
>>146335193>only letting the fanartists surviveBased, I'm ready for the invasion.
>>146335229Imagine them performing an USO show for G.I.Joe.Then Cobra attacks.
Unpopular opinion but I like the new artist. His bot faces are cooler and more expressive than those of the others.
>>146366995Yeah same, shame we'll go back to Corona next issue, I'm not particularly excited to see Cliffjumper with a grandpa face again
>>146335435Did the same. I was never into GI Joe though, mainly due to 0 exposition to it in my country. The issues I read weren't bad but not good enough to buy them so I halted it for now. Still buying Void Rivals but not a fan of the presentation and the character writing either even though I like the idea and the setting quite much. So far TF is the only series I consider decent. Not great so far, but not bad either. Something bothers me with TF too but I cannot tell you what. Probably the pacing and how quickly characters change their mindset, join a group, get over a death or do something you didn't expect out of nowhere. I wonder if it would be better if things moved a bit more slowly.
>>146335540>instead of letting him go do his own booksSo that's the reason? I thought he was just overworked by drawing and writing for this so he took a timeout. It makes absolutely no sense to not keep him if he could. But maybe DWJ wanted to draw his own thing and this was part of the deal from the start. I agree about the new artist being better than Corona though. Corona was just a worse DWJ with no upside, the new artist breathes some life into the TFs. I agree with the other anon about the faces, the perfect style for me would be Howard's bot faces and DWJ's action scenes.
WHAT THE FUCK
>>146367596Covers sometimes lie.But I hope not.
>>146367596Wonder how brain dead he'll be
>>146367596What's Thundercracker doing in the Ark? Is he gonna switch sides?
>>146368949You're asking us? But the next arc is apparently everyone versus Starscream and the Combaticons, maybe the fight takes place at the Ark.
>>146335179>we removed the bombs cause he'd set us free teeheegenuinely some of the dumbest fuckers I have ever seen
The series is better with Starscream as MC. A shame that DWJ apparently sucks ass writing origin stories.
>>146335094Starscream in a wheelchair
