The days grow colder, the nights grow longer. That means /co/ Christmas cheer is coming to town. Grab some cocoa, turn on the Christmas music, get comfy, and hang out with some /co/mrades as we share stories and get into the holiday spirit.

As previous years, share your Amazon wishlist and some random Anon may purchase a holiday gift for you. Be sure to gift another Anon in return so we can spread the cheer far and wide.
To get your wishlist code, open your wishlist on Amazon, then copy the 11 digit number from the link. It will look like this: amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/###########
We just need the ###########

Missing Address: When viewing your list, click the "…" in the upper right hand corner. From there click "Manage List" which will give you a few options including “Shipping Address”. While you’re here please check “Third party shipping agreement”. That will allow anons to buy you stuff that isn’t sold by amazon.

Pastebins will be posted once they're up and running, and the stream will be starting later today.

I would gift someone since I received an unexpected Crapazom gift card but I guess that will need to wait a day or two, especially since I really should be sleeping and I'll be AFTK once it's daylight on the Best Coast.

But now that I have cleaned it up -

ALSO, if people MOVED and fixed/updated to their new address on the account portion of their Amazon profile - YOU STILL NEED to fix/update on your Wish List or your cheer item will go to your OLD ADDRESS!!!

You would think Bezo's engineering minions could patch this easily but apparently not.

Sup, /co/. Hope your Friday has been pleasant so far. Normally I'd be boring you all to tears with storytimes of obscure comics, but I have a board games event today that requires a lot of public transport, so I'm gonna be busy.

Honestly, my 2024 has been alright. Some of you may remember that a friend of mine was hospitalised last December with an extremely rare disease. Well, I'm happy to say that they've made a miraculous recovery, and that's no exaggeration; apparently, nobody has made such a great recovery from this disease. Apparently they're fit enough to ride the motorcycle they bought before they got ill.

I've also been making new friends, and reconnected with old ones. I've also been going to places near my home, like the local reservoir, and just appreciating nature. Overall, a fairly chill year.

And so the threads return. Hopefully our American Anons and Namefriends are resting well, digesting turkeys, yams and whatnots.

I'm back to posting trivia this year. I might do a storytime once in a while, but they won't be the main thing.

So tell me, ever wonder who decides which parts of the Bible priests would read every day? Well, the Big Book at the altar isn't actually the Holy Bible, but rather something called a "Lectionary" (or at least one of its volumes), which contains exactly that. The modern version was first established after the Second Vatican Council in the 70s, and the one used currently is a revised version that came out in 2015.
You see, it's all based on a three-year loop, at least for Sundays (workdays have a two-year cycle). And I'll be checking every day, and from multiple years at that, and then focus on whatever I want.
The liturgical year also starts on the first Sunday of Advent, so it's perfect. I'm shocked I haven't done this before.

I'm also "learning" how to "draw". Maybe by the end of the year I'll be able to do a straight(-ish) line.

And when you look into November 29th throughout the years, it turns into a regular Second Coming Jamboree. From the "Ye know not when The Time is" speech from Mark's Gospel, warning the Disciples not to get caught lacking, through two separate readings from the Book of Isaiah promising a world of peace, one about turning your swords into ploughshares, the other about a lamb dwelling with a wolf (totally not the furry way though), and ending up with a Gospel of Luke about seeing the signs that the Kingdom of God is at hand. Which, to be fair, kind of sends mixed signals with that Marky Mark story I've mentioned first.

GOOD MORNING, SPOOKS AND SNOWSTERS

I hope you've all had a lovely Thanksgiving, and I hope you've been well since I last saw many of you at the end of Spooktober. But you can't keep a good skeleton down for long. I'm BACK, and with a lot of help, I'm arranging a new set of Spooky Stream-style Christmas streams for every weekend, and for the days leading up til Christmas itself.
Pic related is our current full schedule for the year. Note that December 20th will be a VIEWER SUGGESTION STREAM! This post will remain an anchorpost for anons to suggest Christmas movies, specials and cartoons, that we will choose from for this special stream.
I'll see you guys later tonight with a semi-spooky stream, including the much-delayed return of Joe Bog Briggs' MONSTERVISION.

It's so nice to see you all again. I've been counting down the days ever since I discovered how weirdly late Thanksgiving fell in the month this year. That means our celebration will be a bit shorter than usual, unfortunately.
>>146568031
Would you happen to know why that is? What process governs the specific dates certain holidays fall on?
>>146568041
>>146568288
It's a shame to see our traditions slighted like that, but it is to be expected. This isn't our /co/ and it hasn't been for quite a few years now. We'll always have Christmas, though.

I feel that. Not sure if I'll be able to swing it myself, but I'll try for it. Seeing Nosferatu on Christmas also sounds like fun.

Time to dust off the ol' wishlist and have to remove all the comics because they're either no longer available or the prices have risen too much. Ah, of course they only have the second half of this Superman collection.

AND WE'RE BACK

It's been a hell of a year folks. I hope whatever trials you've endured get sorted, that your loved ones are good and that you've accomplished all you wanted to.

I return with the 24/h Christmas special stream, packed with (I think) 320gig now of specials, a few animated movies and all running on super stable hardware! I've been testing since November and it's been perfect so any screw-ups are with the site. Not me. Honest.

Had a hard day? Want to get in the festive mood? Then hop on the stream and watched everything from Simpsons, Doug, American Dad, South Park, old classics, new stuff, utter dross, if it's Christmas themed, it's in there.

And don't forget our annual XMAS MOVIE TIME TO PAIN, where we endured some legendary shockers to ever haunted the world of men. And this year there's a few more stinkers to waste our time with.

I could use some tree trimming opinions. The string of white lights came out a little short. TONIGHT ON A...KINDA...SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAM

The day after Thanksgiving, and already we're hyped for the holidays. But such a time of year is usually a transitionary period, so perhaps some stranger choices are a good beginning to this year's streams?
Our pre show features the newest Christmas adventure of the Smiling Friends, their latest client being a death-fearing snowman. Next, the Looney Tunes tackle their own adaptation of a Christmas Carol (as directed by the ditzy Lola Bunny, so don't expect a lot of Dickens' writing to have survived).
Our first main show bears a striking resemblance to Home Alone, yet was released a year prior. Suspicious. Then again, Home Alone wasn't about a boy who resorts to desperate measures to protect himself and his father from a madman dressed as St. Nick. Hosted by Spooktober legend Joe Bob Briggs, it's DEADLY GAMES, also known as DIAL CODE SANTA CLAUS.
Next is another twisted film, albeit one with a far more bittersweet tone. A modern Frankenstein story that crosses over into the Christmas season, in which a gentle, yet imposing looking man-made creature faces the world and all that lies within it, both pleasant and tragic. The tale of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.
For our late show, if any of you are disappointed that we're not doing Die Hard this year, we got the next best thing. Instead of John McClane, however, it's Cleveland Brown in the action. Finally, an installment of Mike Tyson Mysteries where the gang must spread cheer to a old man on his last legs. Surely this won't go wrong.

Just got back from the board games event, and it was great; there's one couple there who bring their 5-year old son (he gets a bit hyper sometimes, but he's well-behaved and doesn't have shitty tantrums or anything) and I gave his parents a little Christmas present for him. It's just a little plastic King Bowser I picked up for 20p at a car boot sale (that's about a quarter at a swap meet for you Yanks) and his mum was all "You didn't have to do that" but I love the little squirt so I did.

Anyway, I managed to play some fun games tonight, including Wok & Roll, a fun dice game all about serving food at a Chinese restaurant. Two of the people I was playing with are Chinese, and it turns out one of them has family that run several Chinese takeaways, including one not too far from the venue that one of the organisers loves to go to fairly often. Kind of a weird coincidence, but it was interesting to hear her talk about how the food is prepared and how her dad has added a bunch of dishes to the menu... including one the organiser LOVES.

I should try one of the local Chinese places near where I live.

>What process governs the specific dates certain holidays fall on?
Mostly it's the need to line up the date and the day of the week, for example Advent is "celebrated" (as much as a time of anticipation can *be* celebrated, at least) during the four Sundays before Christmas, so depending on how December falls on the weekly grid, it can start anywhere between November 27th and December 3rd.
But most likely if you're thinking about a movable feast it's related to Easter - which, if memory serves, falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring (so measured from the equinox). There's a whole algorithm (called "computus") devised to figure out on what date it will fall on - and all the other movable feasts that are connected, from Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent (and even before that, the holidays specifically held to get people partied out before it starts, like Mardi Gras) up to the Pentecost.
>>
you shitters start before dec 1?
>>
>>146575841
It's missing the "fireball" that Bowser is meant to fire out of his mouth, but the kid is into Super Mario so I duobt he'll be too disappointed. Last year, I gave him a piggy bank I got from a Christmas fair held in support of a local charity. I don't even know if he gets any pocket money (what you Yanks call "allowance") I just won it in a weird raffle that apparently only the UK does.

November 30th is actually St. Andrew's Day, which I might've mentioned most years (if not every one), since it's such easy trivia. Now, it might not be a big "day off work" type of holiday (except for Scotland, Andy being their patron saint) or even "you HAVE to go to church" day, but it's still special enough that it overrides any other liturgical scheduling.
That's because, even though he's not as prominent as, say, Saint Peter or The One Jesus Loved™, he's still one of the OGs - as a matter of fact, he's Peter's older brother.
And the yearly reading from the Gospel of Matthew covers the recruitment of the first Apostles by Jesus. There he was, just strolling around the Sea of Galilee (which isn't actually a sea, just a lake, and not even a saltwater one), and when he happened upon some fishermen - Pete and Andy - he said the famous line "come with me and become fishers of men".
And then, probably completely ignoring the discussion if they should call themselves Menermen, he went to like the next boat over and recruited James and John as well. I particularly like how the Gospel made sure to emphasize that J&J straight-up ditched their father Zebedee in the middle of the workday.
Also I need to point out that even on his special day, Andrew needs to share the spotlight with three other guys. Ain't that just typical.

Aaaaaand you just put me down a rabbit hole of "where else is this guy a patron saint of?" Turns out, quite a few places - Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Cyprus and for some reason Barbados, not to mention a bunch of cities and municipalities (most of them in the Philippines). He's not even the only patron saint of Scotland that's double-dipping; there's also Columba, who is technically the patron saint of Scotland AND Ireland, but he got pushed aside due to church politics.

Still can't touch ol' St George for cross-cultural appeal, of course - that guy is basically the McDonalds of patron saints.

>>
>>146582350
>that guy is basically the McDonalds of patron saints.
I'm curious where St Francis would land in this metaphor. Burger King maybe?
>>
>>146582374
Actually, Francis of Assisi isn't the patron saint of many places; some Filipino municipalities and Italy itself, but that's it. In terms of stuff he's patron of, I guess he's more of an Olive Garden? St Patrick is probably the Burger King in this analogy, maybe.

Either way, The Virgin Mary is definitely the Starbucks of patron saints - she's pretty much everywhere, including the Americas, Australia and THE FREAKING MOON

Hello everyone. Back again after a year of chaos, thanks to a new puppy. Unfortunately, I had to downsize my book collection. I started to lean into digital more since she likes eating... everything. My area turned old phone boxes into take a book/leave a book locations so I gave a lot of my stuff away to locals. Means, I can't really put books on my wish list this year since I've used up all my puppy safe book storage. Hopefully, by next year, she won't think Dredd looks like a good target for her reign of destruction..

Any one else reading Digimon liberator? Long forward digital comics are new to me.

She's being trained. She's just a trouble maker dog. She'll play chicken with you until she's absolutely sure she can't win.. then challenge you one more time just because she can. She takes after her owner in that regard. But she's slowly getting there and growing into an adult.

>>146585962
She doesn't care about the sprays. She has lots of toys and now she'll bring a ball to you when she wants to play instead of trying to misbehave for attention. Just one of those dogs that requires a bit more work to train. I'll get there with her soon enough.

>may you all have a snowy night with a blanket and hot cocoa.
It's cold enough for it, and everyone nearby seems to be getting buried in it, but we're not getting so much as a dusting yet. It's always like that here, "lake effect snow" be damned. Honestly, we rarely get more inches of snow than I used to get down south, it's just way more frequent.
>Oh fuck I just assumed we'd start on the 1st. Although knowing my mom, Christmas stuff went up right after Thanksgiving dinner, so I guess it's not that weird to start the Christmas season early.
You're the third person here to express surprise at the Black Friday start we've always had, but there has always been a fair number of people who don't turn up until December anyway. I personally think Black Friday is the best compromise for when to start celebrating Christmas, right after old Saint Nick closes out the Macy's parade. I'm all for holding the line against the Christmas creep and the ever-increasing high Christmastide washing up in the summer months, but I like to start the cheer as soon as possible, because it really is the most wonderful time of the year (as heretical as it may be for a Halloween ghoul to admit this).

I almost don't mind that it happened to me those two years back since now we have this warning. Funny story, I bought something from abebooks or one of the other online bookstores earlier this year, something I've used so rarely that it still had my old address on there. I knew to check and I've added the current one, but for whatever reason it only registered as the billing address and I had to contact my old landlord about it.
Also I'm surprised Elusive didn't show up yet, worst case scenario someone will have to take over organizing the wishlists from him. He did recruit someone to help him do it last year, didn't he?

The big thing for me this year was I tried taking the A-Levels in math, to put it on my resume and hopefully get a better job in the future (career advisor suggested getting GCSEs in English and math as proof I can speak the language and count - and being cocky I decided to go one step further). Unfortunately, I underestimated the breadth of the material, while at the same time overestimating my ability to absorb said material, so I ended up only having about a week to cover all of Pure Math 2+3, which was baically logarithms, further trigonometry and further calculus. Overall, I barely got a D, which is still a passing grade, but I know I can do better. The worst thing is, I've basically spent £500 for a trial run, and I'm still in the same shitty job.

Context: When I bought my Amazon tablet some years ago, I didn't bother paying extra for an ad-free experience, so the screen lock is one of the many ads that are being rotated through.
Now that it's "Buying Christmas Presents" season, the ads obviously lean into that, and one I just got now was for Disney. And for whatever reason, they've put Spider-Man and Elsa from Frozen next to each other. Bold choice.
They really need some Zoomer/late Millennial intern to okay every single thing they do so they don't accidentally step into memes.
>>
>>146593240
Or hire someone to lean into the memes. I still remember Sonic's twitter being basically nothing but shitposts.

You're good people, anon. Math is also the tool of the devil but that's my personal opinion. I went from getting a GCSE D and retook in college and got a C. When I got the best job I ever had, my interviewer/soon to be manager was like "we don't look at that. Just show us what you can do". Weirdly enough, I found strength of character to be much more influential than credentials, but that was just the arena I was in I suppose.

It's not that I don't believe you, it's that natives don't *need* to prove themselves the way us filthy heathen jobstealers do.
Also at this point I hope you're wrong for the sake of my sanity, since by the time I'll pass it all with flying colors I'd have spent more time on it that if I were to just go to school for it and I'd rather that time didn't turn out to be wasted.

December 1st turns out to be, at least this year, the start of Advent. It's only once in about 7 years (on average) that you see it aligning with commercial Advent Calendars.
It's also today that I've started realizing my folly with this idea. Since Advent, and therefore the whole liturgical year, doesn't really have a fixed date it starts on (as I've explained >>146576313 here), some readings will show up repeatedly as I check different dates from different years. But I'm in too deep by now, so I'll just have to make the best of it.

Today's reading I've grabbed from an Advent Weekday (2021, to be exact), and it's a story of the *other* time Big J multiplied a handful of food to feed the masses. All four Gospels talk about the time he used five loaves of bread and two fish to give 5000 of those who followed him into the desert their fill, and if I remember bible study right, all the numbers mentioned have some symbolic significance.
But this is not that story, this is the time, which was mentioned only by Matt and Mark, when J. used seven loaves and "several" fish to feed 4000. Obviously the number 7 was big in the Bible, but I won't be speculating on the significance behind the number "dunno, a bunch I guess".
I won't be pondering moral conundrums either, so if you want to know whether these two stories could be interpreted to mean that replicating and redistributing something endlessly without it affecting the original is not only not a sin, but in fact divine, please just go back to the Win-O'-Thread.

They're one of the only reasons I come back to this board these days, but I'm always excited to do so.

What do you guys like to read? I was more into comics back in the day and largely fell off the wagon over a decade ago. I mostly flew by what looked interesting in the catalog or was on those old recommendation collages that you never seem to see on the boards anymore. I remember being most fond of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol run and All-Star Superman, the Geoff Johns Green Lantern from which our beloved Holiday Lanterns were derived, and Paul Cornell's stint on Action Comics with Lex Luthor as the protagonist (also an offshoot of a Johns Lantern plot). I did recently enjoy some volumes of the Don Rosa Collection from the library, and I liked the Invader Zim comics when they were coming out. I'm always interested in villain-centric stories. They always tell you to read non-cape comics to get to The Good Stuff, and I remember enjoying Bone and Anya's Ghost, but I seem to have trouble divining what I'll find interesting at a glance.

Thank you kindly, Johnny. It's "officially unofficial" I'd say. We're hitting a decade with no signs of stopping. There's no ring (yet) but the plans are in motion, and we're at a point we're actually planning a wedding now that the both of us are in a place we can equally contribute to it. Plus we want it all to be ready to go to avoid family drama and people inserting into plans. Quicker turnaround from the official announcements means an easier time for us!

I like to read the stuff I've been storytiming, so I occasionally dip into the various issues of Showcase and The Brave & The Bold that I've been posting on weekends. On a similar note, I've also gotten into comic book adaptations of novels for some reason, back when I was posting every issue of Classics Illustrated; I've always liked the idea of turning something into a different medium, which is one of the reasons I like modern musicals. People have turned all kinds of shit into stage musicals now, like Reefer Madness, Evil Dead, even Bananaman (that really should've gotten more attention, and it's a crying shame that there's only three songs from the original production on YouTube)

neurospicy take: recommendations for Christmas comics should probably delineate between stuff that's suitable for kids, and stuff that isn't. I'm not saying that as a way of censorship... I guess I'm more concerned with the overall tone of some books? Let's face it, modern comics are more inclined to be cynical about the festive spirit.

I'm a pretty depressive person, but I'm usually able to make it work, so I'll give you some pointers in the hope that they'll help you, too:

>The tree is the centerpiece of the season, so get it out and decorated ASAP. If a typically sized Christmas tree isn't something you have, can get, or have space for, a smaller, decorative tree of any type will do. There are even pre-decorated ones you can find pretty easily. There are ceramic light-ups, miniature artificial trees, all sorts of little things like this. You'll want any gifts under or near the tree until it's time to open it. A bedside table with a tiny tree and a bag of candy is a white dwarf of Christmas spirit, small but dense.
>Have Christmas music going whenever you can use some music. I personally recommend this playlist: https://dinosaurdracula.com/christmas-jukebox/
>Bake something, even a simple tube of sugar cookies, like those Pillsbury Christmas cookies. A warm kitchen on a cold night sets the mood. You should still make some treats if you live somewhere warm, but it can definitely be tricky to feel the seasonal spirit without colder weather, if you associate that with the time of year.
>Christmas media. I recommend Skeletal's weekend streams, but you can do what I'm doing and just use his schedule as a playbook if you aren't able to make them, there's so much good stuff on it: >>146569179 There's also a 24/7 Christmas stream from Sheol at https://vaughn.live/sheol_uk
>If you can, and the opportunity presents itself, do something nice for someone. The smallest little things count. It can be as basic as holding a door. They really add up, especially in the season.

Basically, you do actively need to cultivate the mood, especially if you're depressed. That's what traditions are really for. I learned the hard way that it does take a little work on your own, especially if you're sad. >>146600969 is right, though, don't force it. Just invite it in. Open the window for it.

I've been busy today but this has been rattling around in my head. Let me put this into context. Poor family, went to college, did 3 years in IT and restarted the 2nd due to screwing around. Did menial admin work before applying for junior IT support for a small multinational. I got the role because I knew it was my only chance to jump careers as work in the town was dry. Was given a tour and shown the server room. Didn't know half of what I looked it but my enthusiasm for wanting to know won the position. Learnt everything, studied for ISO while there and was made manager when mine left at the age of 23. For reasons, moved and applied at an ISP for support desk. The interview was all day and at midday half of us would be gone. I saw people taking the lazy options, doing the minimal in the tasks. I had no safety net and doing that made me fight harder, think sharper, do better. Got it, then moved to the biggest ISP in the UK a few years later on frontline. There I basically ran frontline instead of our piss poor middle manager, who saw the role as a step up. I was looking after chains of hotels, garages, because nobody wanted to learn the set ups. A few from other teams left for Symantec. X had worked there for 8 years - didn't even get a goodbye card. At lunch I had got my grandad a birthday card. So when I found out at 5pm, I raced around and got people to sign it for X. When I applied at Symantec, the interviewers were blank, I couldn't get a read. I got the job. I asked my manager later who said "I spoke to X about you. You already had the job before you walked in. He told me the kind of person you are."
And years later, whenever I hired for them, I would tell every interviewee I don't care about their paper. I cared about who they are and what they could do.

TONIGHT ON A NOT SO SPOOKY CHRISTMAS STREAM

Following a newly restored Fleischer short, offering a look into their vibrant interpretation of the season, we kick off the last stream of the weekend with Spongebob Squarepants, to commemorate his 25th anniversary with each of his Christmas specials every week. This week, it's Spongebob's very first Christmas, in which all of Bikini Bottom, sans Squidward, hypes themselves for the coming of Santa!

Our main show tonight is one of many different adaptations of Charles Dickens' classic. But to many, it is the definitive version, if not for the substantial additions it makes to the story, but for the incredible performance of Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge in his supernatural story of redemption. It's the 1951 version of SCROOGE / A CHRISTMAS CAROL!

Finally, to ease us all out of the stream, first, Scooby-Doo and the gang contend with a Christmas pageant threatened by both an old miser and by a menacing ghost, and then, under the guise of a false Santa, the brutish Bluto attempts to soil Christmas for his rival, Popeye the Sailor.

Hi again /cheer/!
A better year than 2023. I graduated, which is good, but that means I'm now an overeducated and unexperienced NEET with no student finance or income, which is bad. Been reading a healthy amount of comics since escaping university, which is definitely good, but have also spent way too much on those very comics over the past couple years, which is possibly bad. Had a fun operation last month, which for the time being I cannot say is either good or bad since I'll only find out what the end result will be like later this week. Looking forwards to Christmas still. That's good.

I wish I could participate in the gift-sharing further but thanks to the aforementioned new NEETdom I'm not exactly flush these days, so instead I've just gifted 4FG3TUS3O13Y .co.uk a small thing which is far less expensive than I'd have thought it deserves to be. That's good for my wallet though, so enjoy it when it comes along by the end of the week.

Another year, another holiday thread! My year’s had ups and downs, but mostly it’s been a good one. Got to dress up in a monster suit for a short film, so that rocked.

another year, another christmas cheer thread!
for my second ever annual visitation to these threads, i somewhat find myself in a similar position from last year where my usual writing output has just gone completely kaput. the last year this happened, i was aiming to write some greentext stories about a scooby doo mystery taking place in christmas but sadly, it wasn't meant to be
i'm not certain enough to revive it for these threads but regardless, i'm happy to fulfil any greentext requests the thread may have. it's the least i can do and i want to get in the writing spirit so that I can write a story for my girlfriend as lil personalised gift
oh and before i forget! my wishlist is XZSB9QJ6E12Z .co.uk

If anyone has any Christmas sketch requests with references then please feel free to drop them.

That reminds me - I've always hesitated but I want to be sure everyone gets a gift. For those anons in other countries, is it as simple as creating an Amazon account in those countries as well so I can buy and ship to them? Or is there some other trick to buying a gift for them?

>For those anons in other countries, is it as simple as creating an Amazon account in those countries as well so I can buy and ship to them?
You don't even need to create an account, it's already there. Simply log in with your regular data and you can order. That's how I always did it with .com, co.uk, and the other ones. I don't think our .de Amazon is the only one that transfers accounts to the other Amazons
>>
Also, forgot to mention in >>146608497 that you may have to fill out your credit card data. It asked me but only because I use my regular bank card on my .de account and not my credit card
>>

can confirm for this, I've bought things for most of the suffixes, and I've only ever logged in with my .co.uk details, you may have to go to the top left and change the "deliver to" section or the site will only want to show you things that can be delivered to where you are

Monday, December 2nd - start of yet another workweek. But at least we're in the last month, the holiday break is within our reach.
Unless you work in some kinda customer service job, in which case I feel for you.

Today's reading (and by "today" I do mean today, as in 2024) comes from Gospel of Matt and is set in his very own home village of Capernaum. As Jesus and his crew were strolling around a centurion approached him, asking to heal his servant. J agreed to go see him, but the Roman stopped him, claiming he's not worthy to host him and totally not because his house looks like shit on account of is servant's palsy, and asked him to just wi-fi it from distance.
"See, this guy gets it", spake Jesus, and after indeed wi-fi'ing the servant back to health, announced that the centurion's faith was a sign that many other outsiders will bask in the glory of the Kingdom of Heaven. Which I guess is good news for all of us Gentiles.

Also I've just realized that JC is often depicted with a red cape strapped over one shoulder, I will have to remember it when prepping the "art".
>>
>>146603843
The Kamen Rider Drive Christmas episodes "What is in the Belt's Past?" and "Who Can Prevent the Dark Christmas Eve?". Because of how most modern KR episodes are we'd probably have to stream both. Wouldn't work for suggestion night but it would be perfect for a Stocking Stuffer next year.

... bugger, I was meant to start this yesterday, but I completely forgot when I went out to play board games (I had a blast, btw; one of the semi-regulars brought her dad, who didn't have the best grasp on English, but we managed to get him to play 6 Nimmt which he did really well at - it was nice to praise his moves with the occasional thumbs up, but I digress...)

You may recall last year I posted a bunch of threads on the catalog with various adaptations comic book adaptations/takes on A Christmas Carol. This year, I figured I'd keep it in the Cheer threads, as you lot are probably the most receptive to it. I won't post the direct adaptations, as they tend to be fairly lengthy and I don't want to crowd out people who just want to chat itt.

Anyway, all that preamble is to let you know that I'll be posting one of these a day (I'll be doing two today because I forgot yesterday's). This one comes from Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog #6; it was the back-up strip to a rather bare-bones adaptation of Sonic Spinball. Angelo DeCesare has been working at Archie for a long time, and even branched out into kids books and cartoons for younger audiences (he wrote episodes of Bubble Guppies and Fixi & Foxi back in the 00s). Dave Manak is best known for his work on early Archie Sonic, but he's also done work writing and drawing for various 80s DC titles like Plop, Atari Force and Weird War Tales.

I promised you all another Christmas Carol pastiche tonight, and here it is!

For anyone who isn't aware, Project Superpowers was Dynamite's attempt to use a bunch of Golden Age superheroes who had fallen into the public domain and (unlike all the morons who jizzed themselves over Steamboat Willie going public domain) actually did something interesting with them.
>>
Alex Ross's name has become a byword for excellence in comic book art, and attempting to summarise his genius is beyond my meager talents.

Brandon Jerwa became synonymous with G.I. Joe comics in the 00s, to the point that his likeness was used for the 2006 Dragonsky action figure.

Patrick Berkenkotter was a Dynamite workhorse for a while, doing interior art for titles such as Vampirella, Red Sonja and Warlord of Mars.

Hello hello! Hope everyone has had a good start to the month so far. I've been thinking about trying to fit in one holiday movie a day, but with how grueling my work is, I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up that pace. Plus, it usually takes me an eternity to settle on what I actually want to watch...
Yesterday was "Better Watch Out" (2016), not sure about tonight... Maybe that terrible-looking "Dear Santa" movie that just released on Paramount+ where Jack Black plays Satan who a dyslexic kid mixes up for Santa. Any suggestions for your holiday staples?

>>
>>146616319
I always watch the Chuck Jones and Jim Carrey Grinches, as well as A Christmas Story. Usually one of the Home Alones, in yearly rotation. Everything else fluctuates but those are my true staples. I find that what you watched in your youth tends to be what really becomes a staple, so movies you don't have a long-standing relationship with may not really do it for you.
>>
>>146616492
We all come to that idea in one form or another at some point, I think. HIM from The Powerpuff Girls was intended to be named Satan Claws (and now everything about his design makes sense).
>>
>>146616319
We're currently watching "Hot Frosty" for a laugh. I expect nothing but a cringe film and so far, I'm getting it.
Didn't realize the woman who played Gretchen in Mean Girls was the lead, or that she was in so many cartoons.
I'll give a full report later.
Otherwise? My staples are Rankin Bass classics - and you know which one is at the top of the list.
If you do watch "Dear Santa," I'd love to find out how that is.
>>146616176
That's reasonable. I'll have to read it on my own time, I can't believe I've slept on some of these for so long.

I used to watch the classics, Home Alone and Die Hard on Christmas Day, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Die Hard 2: Die Harder on Christmas Day 2: Boxing Day, But I stopped once I've realized that after several years I knew the movies by heart.
>>
>>146617023

Oh boy oh boy, what a year it has been /co/. Last Christmas, my mom slipped in the kitchen and broke her spine. Spent the first half of the year helping her recover, and thankfully, she's doing great!

Going through that taught me that a lot of my close friends/colleagues were taking advantage of me, so I cut ties with a lot of people dragging me down. And this past week, I made a huge step towards something I've needed to do for a long time and I left my wife . It's for good reasons, and I think it'll make us both a lot happier.

Finances may be tight right now, I just lost a big case I was working on, but I'm sure it'll come back around. This whole year has been a challenge that's made me happier and stronger, and I hope to gift a dozen or so lists like I did last year now that things are settling in again :) Life is short, it's worth spreading the cheer!

This year, December 3rd is Giving Tuesday, and I'm not completely sure if it's a good thing or just an excuse for megacorps to cosplay as something that's not a soulless infant crusher. With Google and Microsoft as partners, I have my doubts.
But this is not about them, it's about early 1st century Mediterranean. Today's reading is from the Gospel of Luke, where Jesus tells us to rejoice, because he brings us an inside scoop the prophets and king of yore could not even imagine. After all, everything he does is through his Father, for nobody knows the Son like the Father - and, on the flipside, nobody knows the Father like the Son, and now he's passing that knowledge onto the "little ones".
For someone urging others to turn the other cheek, he's quite adept at backhanded compliments.

I've got another Disney Duck story for you all, courtesy of Uncle Scrooge #360. The writing is by Stefan and Unn Printz-Påhlson, a husband-wife duo who started working on Disney comics in 1979 and 1988 respectively, and nowadays work as editors for the various Disney titles in their home country of Sweden.

Art was by the late Daniel Branca, who started working as an assistant animator for an ad company when he was 16, and eventually gravitated towards Disney comics while doing work on other comics in his native Argentina.

The translation is courtesy of Tony Isabella, of all people; if the name sounds familiar, he co-created Misty Knight and Black Lightning, and apparently worked on a dozen translations for various Disney stories in the mid-00s. He also wrote the Star Trek novel The Case of the Colonist's Corpse, which I highly recommend.

I might as well post another festive issue of Buster; I'm having to jump ahead a bit, as scans of Buster are thin on the ground as it is, and they only get thinner the more modern they get.

At this point, Buster was pretty much the only comic I.P.C./Fleetway had left, besides 2000AD and Judge Dredd Megazine. The British comic book industry was slowly eating itself thanks to a number of factors too depressing to list here, but one of them was publishers putting out too many titles that got cancelled quickly.

Speaking of which, Buster had merged with quite a few titles since 1985. Three, to be precise: Nipper, Oink!, and Whizzer & Chips. This brought the number of comics that Buster had merged with up to an even dozen (since you asked, the other titles were Radio Fun, Film Fun, The Big One, Giggle, Jet, Cor!!, Monster Fun, Jackpot and School Fun). W&C was the last one that Buster would ever merge with... mainly because there weren't any more that I.P.C./Fleetway had left.

I always found this slightly annoying until Harry Potter made it feel kind of quaint. "Merry" as a word is almost exclusively used in Christmas wishes and they refuse to touch it across the pond for whatever reason. Can anyone shed some light on this?

What are you most looking forward to in December? For me it's all the Christmas related porn.
>>
>>146623353
>What are you most looking forward to in December?
The sense of anticipation and general good cheer are the best parts, I think. Christmas always died on Christmas for me. Christmas afternoon has always been this weird, melancholic, liminal void in my experience. In some ways the 26th is actually the grander celebration, when you can actually start playing those games/watching those shows/reading those books you got in earnest.
>For me it's all the Christmas related porn.
Oh, it's Goon Miser. ...This isn't snow, is it...
>I'm Mr. Porn Addict
>I'm Mr. Edge
>I'm Mr. Beat-My-Dick
>I'm Mr. Can't-Feel-My-Legs
>Friends call me Goon Miser,
>whatever I touch
>Gets covered in my nut (Haha!)
>I'm too much!

I don't know about Christmas related porn. The Santa dresses don't do it for me because I don't think Santa is a sexy association to make. There's a lot of putting candy canes in places they don't belong and I can't suspend my disbelief on introducing peppermint to those areas being anything but thoroughly unpleasant. Ribbons and bows are nice, though, and mistletoe can make for interesting framing.
