I don't know a great deal about the development side of this stuff. What, if anything, are we waiting on for a new 'version' of Stable Diffusion that might create more coherent background elements or complex details, etc? Or is this a permanent limitation of the technology?

Within SDXL all people can do is retrain on different datasets, but we're far past the point of diminishing returns. Flux looked promising and its furry finetune Chroma, only the guy lied about including anime in there and it has no Danbooru knowledge. Similar deal with Auraflow and Pony v7. There's also netayume on Neta Lumina, which has a retarded text encoder quirk and sucks for nsfw, even though it is capable of basic stuff.I expect the next decent one will be a finetune on Qwen image. Best one I've tried by far in terms of natural language understanding, and it can already do anime and nipples which should make for a good base.
