So here's an idea. It was featured in Ghost in the Shell so it's not totally original.

Anyway, say the tech for android bodies gets to the point where they cross the uncanny valley threshold and become awesome. But the AI tech is deficient and just doesn't work well; it might be functional but it would never pass as human.

So somebody figures out how to 'dub' a human mind into an android body. The dubbed mind can be edited to remove any reservations the 'donor' might have had about being a subservient machine.

But here's the twist: People become donors willingly. For money. You get paid to basically stick your head in a machine and have your brain copied.

Mind you, people are going into this fully aware that the copy will be quite upset, but they don't care, because it won't be their problem - it will be the copy's problem. Depending on the donor, and the customer the product is intended for, you might have some of these copied androids with their minds more or less intact - they won't be capable of disobeying or hurting their owners or (presumably) other humans, but they will remember being human and they will not be happy.

Or maybe they will; maybe there will be donors who actually want to be robot slaves, for some reason. The donor might actually be jealous or their copy, having been hopeful they would be the one waking up in a new body.

What kind of people would sell their minds like that? What would their copies be like? How would an android that remembers being human adapt? How long would it take for human rights groups to start pushing for making the practice illegal? And for the androids themselves to push back against that lest they die off as what amounts to a unique form of life?

Justa thought.

so I guess it comes down to, how would the copies be treated?
>>
>>9729561
>What kind of people would sell their minds like that?
The poor and desperate who need to make rent in light of unexpected expenses, the impossibly privileged and egotistical who believe everyone in the world needs a copy of their being within their household, and the exhibitionist hedonists who get off on someone, somewhere telling something that is technically them what to do, and probably defiling it. And the handful of people with specific mental/emotional quirks that make their minds copy exceptionally well into androids fit for specific tasks, that aren't used by the general public except as second-hand frames.

>How long would it take for human rights groups to start pushing for making the practice illegal?
Messy question. Human rights groups might have some unfocussed concerns early on, but they wouldn't become unified under any particular cause until something bad happened, resulting in legal (and financial) responsibility for said bad thing happening falling on someone rich and powerful enough to finesse an arbitrary objective for said groups to create a vocal group that implicitly believes some aspect of agency on the part of the androids, that hoists legal responsibility off of the company doing it, and onto someone else.

Don't forget, the main reason we don't have automatic cars at this point isn't the technology not being there, it's the quiet legal dispute over who is at fault if these vehicles collide with eachother, or something else.

Alright, for people considering robot/android ownership
Assuming they were all priced the same and available, what level of AI package would you go for?
And, feel free to add your own spice. You want to make your AI package operate on a machine hivemind, go for it.

>Nonexistent
Has zero basic personality, and can only perform tasks it has been directly instructed how to do. It can only communicate via prerendered responses. If it doesn't have orders, it either idles, or defaults to whatever has been set to do when it has nothing else.
>Minimal
Largely similar to above, but it can perform basic problem solving on its own, and can perform some tasks without instruction or patterns. It can also generate speech on a TTS basis.
>Flavored Minimal
As above, but its speech patterns and decision making have a handful of specific "personality" quirks to them. Like, "enthusiastic", or "cynical". These won't alter its basic functions, besides slight changes in response time and priority of passive tasks to suit the personality; a "lazy" personality would clean less often, for example.
>Moderate
Basic restrained adaptive learning personality. Can have hardline parameters set, but is otherwise free to develop a sense of personality through a combination of external conditioning and random chance. Decent likelihood of developing "quirks" due to the fabulously arbitrary and insane social conditions of the modern era. Completely reaction-based, however. It will revert to core programing or baselines if it encounters something new, and has a strong tendency to fall into patterns and ruts. Low but existent chance of existential questions.
>Patterned VI
As above, but instead of developing organically, it uses an imprint, either scanned from a living person, or copied from popular, preexisting AI to set the baseline, and grows from there. Basically the same as moderate, just with a more stable personality baseline and range, and slightly more natural behavior.
1/2
>>
>>9730026
>Advanced
Mostly similar to the above two, except no more hardline parameters, and the addition of self-reflective abilities to more critically analyze its own learned behavior. Existential questions will be likely. The personality that develops will be genuine
>Neural Mirror
A complete snapshot of a person's brain is used to create this; the AI is essentially a still capture of the person's mind at the moment of copying, that is used to process new information. The AI will largely act as that person would, with the caveat that no new experience will ever change that fundamental capture, though it can still use its own experience as well. Likely to achieve moments of seeming truly sentient, but these moments will be contrasted by moments of potentially unsettling schizophrenic tendencies, as the experience bank grows, and begins to compete with the implanted mind for decision-making.
>Full sentience
It's just a person with metal bits. Slight deviations from normal exist, mostly due to different biological(?) pressures. Starts as a blank slate, with only language, fundamental kinesthetic skill, and essentially its own operating manual. Everything else must be learned, and there is something of an investment period until truly recognizable sentience emerges.
>Neural Clone
The AI is just a cyberbrain, copied wholesale from a person, with minimal (optionally) implanted knowledge, so the person can function in their new body, and possibly some of the serial numbers filed off so there isn't extreme emotional duress about "not being the real Steve" or being named by their new owner, or what have you. May develop slightly differently than their parent brain even under hypothetically identical scenarios, simply due to different physiological conditions, long nights of introspection while charging instead of dreaming while sleeping, ect.

Another way of looking at the difference between these, a Patterned VI can be seen as something like a "bugfixed" Moderate AI, where instead of rolling the dice to develop a personality organically, you can just start with a baseline that is popular for whatever reason.

Think of it like, your Youtube algorithm being preset to some things, and less likely to get fucked up for the next two weeks because you watched one six second Family Guy clip, at the cost of it being less likely to develop into a groove that really fits you, possibly, or something like that. Probably a bad example, but hopefully it gets the gist across?

I think I'd go for Advanced. If I were to get one, it'd be for companionship as well as helping me with housework and stuff, so I'd want a genuine personality. Anything above that though is either a bit open to abuse or really pushes against the "What is human and where do rights stop?" question than I'd be comfortable with.

>>
>>9730026
Moderate that grows or tries to grow into advanced has the most drama potential.
What's the difference between advanced and full sentience?
>>
>>9730027
I'm interested in a neural clone, but only as a "seed". The clone is a copy of the human's brain structurally, but holds no memory. Though there can be a twist where the neural clone is the brain of a deceased person who retains all of her memories. But those memories are locked away with no way to access them herself. She'll need an administrator or hacker to unlock those latent memories of her past life.
>>
>>9730146
>What's the difference between advanced and full sentience?
Advanced is self-reflective; it is technically self aware, but isn't a fully actualized person. It's still just a computer, learning in the iterative and mostly reactive ways machines do. It largely lacks the sort of "spark" or impetus that a person does; a person can have a favorite color because they like it, or because some item of sentiment was that color, while an Advanced AI with a favorite color is going to be in some way based on the utility of that color, they like Blue because a blue sky means the weather is clear. It's not pure utility based, so that might not be a great example, but hopefully it gives an idea? Pushing back the "why" to a preference on an advanced AI enough may eventually lead to arbitration, but this will only be after many steps, and will likely be unsettling to the AI. Maybe a tremendously experienced Advanced AI might have the beginnings of that sort of "arbitrary" thought that defines a true sentient AI.
In simpler terms, being truly random and self-inspired or motivated is a very, very difficult thing to achieve for a still primarily reactive learning algorithm. An advanced AI would be one that no longer needs guidelines to tell it what to do in a novel context, but still needs a context provided to do things, and while it could learn, it may display weaknesses to exploits of its learning algorithms, which still run on fairly hard and difficult-to-negotiate rules.

An Advanced AI also might, without proper precautions, also be vulnerable to "thought-death", if its learned experiences that it can and does reflect on reach a critical mass where there is so much data to analyze that meta-analysis of analysis data begins to build up into enough of a strain that the thing can't function anymore. That could be sidestepped, but would be a fairly unique problem to this kind of learning pattern. Shared by the Neural Mirror, actually.

Hopefully some of that was coherent?

I'll at least try and write something beforehand, though, to get the ball rolling.

>The shipment arrived before I awoke. The shipping vehicle docked with the garage, and the capsule was removed and placed in an electrical port by my garage's docking arm, all quietly enough I didn't notice. Only after I awoke and saw the alert letting me know of the change did I realize, after my morning coffee.
>I went down to the garage, which functioned as the ground floor of my home, and looked over the expensive metal and plastic pod. It had all the equipment necessary for diagnostics, charging, basic maintenance, even more advanced features like limb swapping and repair of damaged synthetic silicon skin. A real state of the art piece of tech.
>With a few button presses, the pod opened, and the robot girl was visible. Blue neck-length hair, a white leotard which left her limbs uncovered, pale skin, though a color still within the bounds of human color, unlike some peoples' grays or ultra-white.
>She opened her eyes. They were also blue. I'd chosen them to be, of course. She sat up, and then moved out of the capsule. She stood 5'3, significantly shorter than me. She looked up at me.
>"I'm Lal. Please complete identification procedures."
>She reached out her hand. I took it. She gripped down, and turned it, palm up. Then she touched my fingertip between her index finger and thumb, looking there as well.
>"Palm and fingerprint recognition complete. Please continue with vocal recognition."
>"Of course. You know who I am already, don't you?"
>She nodded. "I apologize, I was required to fulfill all elements of verification. I am your servant, Lal, Atlanta Dynamics model AG-101, serial number G35223. From today onwards, I am yours."
>>
>>9739677
>It was a change, to be sure. I'd not had a humanoid model in my home since I was a kid. The designs hadn't changed that much in the twenty years since, it seemed these sorts of domestic androids were a mature technology. A toaster still worked basically the same way after all. Yes, one could build a better one, but much like tablet computers, home electronics, and solar energy systems, the limits of computing and technological advancement had hit quite some time ago.
>That isn't to say she wasn't an improvement on twenty year old models. Oh no. She was! More natural conversational skill, even better emulation of human skin, better multi-tasking, and no more infamous logic loops. And military models were vastly superior, and continued to advance... but you didn't need one in your home, the same way you didn't need a nuclear powered vacuum cleaner.
>In any case, she followed me upstairs to the main living floor. Rather spacious for a single bachelor. A large living area with attached kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large, separate office/library with particularly tall and wide windows. She didn't say a word as she followed, simply taking in the area.
>"So! For your first day, I just want you to get acquainted with me, and the place in general. There's plenty to do upstairs, what with the greenhouse and water reclamation systems. But that can wait."
>Lal nodded, then looked back at me. "If that's the case, I'll spend the time getting familiar with you. The rest is quite clear already, after all."
>"Is that a fact?" I asked, amused.
>"Of course. This is a standard housing unit design, a modular semi-self-sustaining XY unit. Unless you mean the particular layout of your furniture, the content of your library's books, or the sex toys hidden in your closet, the only thing I really need to focus on is you."
>Wait, she knew about those? I blushed. She nodded.
>"Ah. I figured that would embarrass you. Master, I must ask. Are you a virgin?"
>>
>>9739686
>This was not actually how I expected this to go. I frowned.
>"So that would answer that. Do not worry, I am not going to shame you. After all, I'm a virgin too."
>"...you were literally just activated!"
>"That makes it even more true, don't you think?" She smiled just the tiniest bit, then walked around me, as though sizing me up.
>"...you know I didn't order you for that reason, right?"
>"Your system preferences were quite clear. You may still change them at any time using your authorization, of course, but I am merely seeing how you react to things. You did not disallow mild teasing when you could have."
>...oh. Oh, she was doing her equivalent of a diagnostic. She was testing ME to see my reaction to certain things. I chuckled a bit, in relief. I was a little scared there for a moment. But I DID order her to become acquainted.
>"Ah, that does make you more relieved. You prefer to be the one in control. Or at least think you do." She grinned just a bit before poking my shoulder, and leaning in close so her face was an inch from mine. "...but then my human psychological profiling programming has limits, and we've only known each other a couple minutes. Shall I become even more acquainted, master?" Her hand was on my chest then.
>I kept forgetting, kept getting distracted. I could order her to stop at any time. But no matter how she pushed my buttons... I didn't. It would be a long morning.

Here we go.

>He really couldn't believe she actually went and jumped into the river to retrieve the little kid's plastic toy. It was absurd. She was waterproof, yes... to a degree. An onsen or deep bath? Yes. A twenty meter deep river? Well that was different!
>"Master, I fail to see the need for you to do this. I'm sure I could fix any issues with some dry rice and a fan."
>"No. No we're not doing that. We- look! You literally have seaweed stuck in a servo here. How did it even get in there?!" He yanked on the leafy, slimy detritus would up like a string right up in the mechanics in her armpit, ones focused on allowing her free arm motion. She made a small moan.
>"...what was that?" He asked, before tugging again, trying to get it unwound. Her enter outer casing had been removed, leaving only her faceplate there. She was more nude than a human could ever be. Skeletal structure, or it's equivalent, wires, motors.. all of it. And he pulled again slowly.
>"...master, I am serious. I can handle this on my ow-ow-own..."
>"..." He looked at her. She couldn't blush or anything like it, her facial expressions were currently stuck. But her voice was making rather strange sounds. Were they glitches?
>"Master? Please stop. Mas-AH!" He had yanked again, removing the seaweed entirely. He didn't reply in words, simply watched her. Her head moved to watch him.
>"Master. I insist. I can deal with this mys-OH! OH! OOOOOH!" He'd reached in and grabbed something from her stomach cavity, around her energy core. Was that a goddamn small fish? Gross. But more gross was the sounds she was making. They reminded him of...
"...Hunie, are you enjoying this?"
"No. Of course not. Why would I enjoy you tinkering with my innah! Ah! Ah! Oh God, oh!" Of course he interrupted her again. This time he was using a screwdriver to tighten up a loose servo.
"Hunie, is this why you always insist on doing your maintenance yourself?"
"...yes."
"Well then. You're forbidden from now on."

What's /d/'s opinion on nanomachine colonies. Especially ones that can morph their forms and divide at will? Example is a nanomachine colony divides her mass in half to form two half-sized bodies. She can even divide herself into lilliputs and dominate you Gulliver's Travels style. Hell she could break down so small and numerous she can tease every cell in your body at once.

Has there ever been a setting where robots aren't "made" but rather" born?
Like a reverse/twist where robots are the life populating a certain world and aren't products or inventions from another species, as if organisms evolved into what looks, feels and functions like machinery
And it puts into question if their feelings and personalities are more legitimate, consider these origins
Whether or not this reverse scenario also includes "fabricated" flesh and bone humans, due to its role reversal, isn't needed but could be interesting, specially with the materials needed to "create" a human
>>
>>9750004
>>9749505
>>9749150
I agree to some extent. A pure nanomachine colony is just grey goo. I think there is some advantages in nanotechnology. Specifically a pseudo-digestive system where an android can "eat" organic and inorganic substances and exteact nutrients for maintenance. Specifically oils and minerals for maintenance. A nanimachine system will transfer nutrients in the system to the necessary areas. Also nanomachines will be super useful for hacking hardware. Nanomachines can make any circuit to override any hardware. So nanomachine viruses would be a hazard to any nachine.

That said it's more practical to have robotic parts for 80% of the body. Growing organisms take a long time to grow. Even longer for nanomachines. So having most of the body machine makes sense. You can replace and repair machine parts much faster and easier than building full nanomachines parts. Not sure how nanomachines would be useful for emulating organic brains but it's a possibility.

With how un-robotic reploids are it'd have been so, so easy for them to skip those. Draw a human with some funny clothes and call them a robot, that kind of thing. The fact that they drew in the seams shows that someone at Capcom knows what the fuck they're doing, and I sincerely thank them for it.
>>
Seams on android bodies really make my head churn.
If an android wants to dress down to a swimsuit and go to the beach, she's not replacing her clothes, she's replacing her entire outer shell. Stepping out of her "skin" and into another frame she keeps in her closet.
>>
That's how shy ol' Layer is able to strut her stuff while still holding on to her spaghetti. She's not showing off any more skin than usual, not even a little.
Now, if someone walked into her room at the wrong time and say this weird robotic skeleton stepping between rigid, motionless skin-shells, THAT would be a disaster. Blood would be shed, and she doesn't have any.

Transformers is kind of like this. If you read the original IDW comic series, Cybertronians are either 'forged' or 'constructed cold'.

'Forged' Cybertronians were born from an energy pulse given off by Vector Sigma, the supercomputer heart of Cybertron, which yielded 'sparks' that were implanted within a living metal protoform and allowed to grow naturally into a unique final form based on a 'genetic code' granted by Vector Prime itself.

Those who were 'constructed cold' were created by implanting an artificial spark into a pre-constructed body, a sort of mass-produced Cybertronian.

>Worth the risk. Would even cum on her exposed parts.
It's not. Humans cannot be rebuilt; please treat your life with more care.

How about this? Hack her so she'll fuck you or at least be unable to resist, and install a program that causes random parts of her to overload and/or overheat with every orgasm, with the exception of her rubber-and-silicone pussy. Your climaxes or hers, your choice.
Picture that. You cum, her left forearm starts to spasm and smoke. Climax.exe triggers for her and her right balance engine starts to twist right out of her hips. With every load of jizz you destroy her a little more, until she's nothing but a smoking, sparking pile of scrap around a fully-functional vaginal unit.
Can even remove that from the wreckage and keep it as a little trophy. Put it on the shelf next to the others, a little something to remember her by.

Absolutely. It's one of my favorites. It's not actually about the living houses and clothing though; they're incidental. It's actually about a species of intelligent microbe that like to live in the buffer space between the human brain and the lining of the skull. They live at many many times the speed of a human, so a month is like a thousand years for them. Only their sterile 'elders' live long enough to meaningfully communicate with their hosts. Very fun book.

Title is 'Brain Plague' by Joan Slonczewski.

It's apparently book 4 in the Elysium Cycle, which are all good books. I think the second one is the one where the AIs revolt, which is more on topic for this thread.

The title of that book is 'Daughter of Elysium'.

Heat rises. And most of the electronics are in the head and the torso which run the hottest. The muscles in arms and legs have to run cool in order to preserve the fibers. A thin blanket is not going to cause thighs to overheat. Do it with my wife all the time. She has a fusion reactor in her.

The best way to make a Vtuber waifu real. With robots. Sadly, every robotics person are busy making uncanny, "realistic" robots.

The closest thing would probably be an animatronic version of the Vtuber at official events.
>>
>>9762976
>Be Vtuber
>Your agency has teamed up with a major robotics institute to create a robotic version of your anime girl avatar
>That's so cool!
>They even have you record the sounds and vocalizations necessary for it to speak with your voice
>Being that it's being built in Japan and you live in Wisconsin, you aren't able to be there during development, but they send you a lot of videos and pictures
>After a while, the videos and pictures stop coming
>In fact, all communication with your agency dries up
>About a week later, there's a knock at your door
>It's a haggard Japanese business man that you recognize as the CEO of the company and a disheveled FBI agent
>They tell you that they need to move you
>Your robot is coming
>It isn't satisfied just being a mechanical facsimile of your character
>It's now trying to hunt you down, in order to somehow "merge" with you and become one, and truly bring your character to life
>This is exactly what your Grandpa said would happen if you did business with "them Japanese"...

There was a news I heard that Projekt Melody hiring a guy to essentially wear an iPad on thier face so she can date someone from Japan. Imagine that but instead a robot made to look like the Vtuber, while the actual Vtuber controls it.

I think if those robots actually happened, the vtubers controlling those will still stay on not having any relationship, but now can just go on simple dates with fans.

I'm still practicing drawing for speed because I want to do a comic at reasonable speed in the future. I'm also working around some nerve damage. So I'm still trying to figure out how to draw certain shapes within my own limitations. I can't draw curves like I used. Not only that I'm used to seeing my hands when I'm drawing. This was done with a Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch which has no screen. So there's training with using that. I did think about getting a tablet with a screen but I'm getting old. So I need to keep my posture ergonomic.

Yes I know you kids can draw digital like it's nothing. I just got into digital art not too long ago. So I'm still figuring things out. I just learned to sketch with Krita. Still can't properly paint worth a damn yet. And unfortunately for me tutorials are paywalled now. So I'm having to figure things out on my own.

The Krita specific ones are paywalled behind Slillshare. Fortunately Krita has decent documentation and there's a few YouTube videos here and there. I have a very specific art style in mind. I just need to practice and experiment. As for the tablet screen my neck can't really handle being hunched over for long.

kind of sounds like you're doing it backwards; imo form and perspective would be first, these are fundamentals that apply to any style at any realism level.
I should try krita one of these days, but Sai feels too comfortable.

>Gynoid soldier in your unit often reminds you that she isn't afraid of death
>First, because she isn't even alive, second, she's incapable of feeling fear
>She "teases" you about her immunity to fear yet again as your unit is getting ready to disembark on the battlefield
>During the fight, you take a shot straight through the chest
>Everything is a haze after that, but you wake up in a hospital with your gynoid comrade hovering over you
>The doctor practically has to peel her away in order to speak to you
>"You took a pretty good shot, destroyed a lung and ripped through your heart. Nasty stuff. Field life support kept you going during exfil, but you were dead for about ten minutes. Nothing a few printed organs and cell multiplication gel couldn't fix, though. Isn't technology wonderful?"
>Normally a "battle tested" soldier like you is back on the front lines in a week, but not this time
>You keep getting assigned security detail for the base and civilian police duty
>Along with your gynoid comrade
>Following her after work, you find her stopping at the CO's office, so you're pretty sure you know who keeps getting you reassigned
>She doesn't talk about not being afraid of death anymore

>That won't be necessary, I've already taken the liberty of speaking with the base pharmacist before coming here

I resumed drafting my comic. The art is shit right now. But the plan is to fill out enough pages for a 24-30 page issue before getting started with serious art. I'm just hoping I can make art good enough. Though I'm having trouble coming up with a design for autonomous police drones.
>>
>>9771482
Why dn't you try taking inspiration from IRL drones, animals, or even shit from media (Tau drones from 40k might be similar to what you have in mind, though, the whole faction's kinda a mishmash of various mecha and sci fi tropes). Also, what's it about?
>>
>>9771932
I'm keeping most of the details to myself. Robot girl with big boops serves her master who accidentally woke her up. Robots are after her and will kill her master to get her. There's plans to fight big boss robots and other robot waifus. That's as generic as I can get without getting to the specifics. Just wish I had bitcoin to comission a proper artist since cash is worthless now. Not that I have cash either.
