>>13734990
Treating prep like a uniform makes you look like you're wearing a costume. r/navyblazer is filled with people that are way too young to be dressing so trad. The key to pulling off prep in college is mixing contemporary themes with staple pieces
>>
>>13735015
im a brainlet and dont know what staple pieces are
>>
>>13735015

Not >>13734990 but I Agree. People on r/navyblazer seem to oppose even the slightest of contemporary styling. a 20yo college student is going to look ridiculous walking around campus in wide cut pleated trousers and a shaggy dog. To me, these guys are comparable to the gentlemen wearing fedoras.

Not really. At NYU non-business majors dress like retards in t-shirts and sweatpants and sweatshirts. They look like children or lazy slobs. Once they start looking for jobs they'll change but I would not call how they dress and act normal
>>
>>13735061
At my uni its the same way. I guess what I mean is they will look ridiculous when compared to anybody who is fashion-conscious.

>>13735046

>>
>>13735046
what a mess! typical example of a trad costume.

you're too damn skinny and every decision you've made goes back to this disqualifying flaw.

first, the barbour jacket has a large collar that makes your neck look even more like a toothpick than normal.

second, the skinny jeans/chinos accentuate your chicken legs, made worse with the contrast provided by the heavy bean boots.

next, the pink oxford and cable knit crewneck are both the most effeminate variations of their categories, which would not be so bad if you weren't built like a lesbian. but again we are forced to come back to your weight.

finally, your pale skin shows you spend 0% of time outside--which helps explain the malnourished physique. perhaps this is due to the fact that your face and haircut demand punches to the face.

i like the glasses though

my advice would be to loosen up. prep/ivy/trad is about nonchalance, and your clothes should allow you some room to relax. also, wear your clothes in more, these all look brand-spanking-new. especially the boots. go stomp around in the mud or something

forgot to mention, not every article of clothing has to be trad! in the 60s some of the clothing was new, when it had its resurgence in the 80s they incorporated some pieces of the day. try to mix it up even if it's just swapping out one article for a more contemporary piece

Not true, they are fine and not feminine. You can wear whatever if you do it well and have confidence in yourself, a masculine guy will pull feminine clothing and be more masculine than you.
>your pale skin shows you spend 0% of time outside--which helps explain the malnourished physique.
Somebody who spends all his time in gym, is going to be as pale as the guy from the picture. Just take a look at olympic weightlifters. Also, if you live in cold regions, going outside doesnt guarantee you to be tan.
>these all look brand-spanking-new. especially the boots.
not really

The biggest problem in that photo and in waywt threads is that people do very shitty postures, if you want to look more masculine, dont put legs so close to each other, open them a bit, like >>13735121 . Also, dont put arms like if they were dead The haircut is bad indeed

Lot of wrong stuff here:
1. Pink oxfords are the most feminine of the oxfords, and cableknit crewnecks are the most feminine variation on a crewneck. I will restate that just because they are more feminine than the alternatives, does not mean they shouldn't be worn, but this aspect of them should be considered before they are worn (especially when worn together). By the way, these are widely know truths to the point that certain people during the ivy heyday and the 1980s resurgence would avoid them to avoid being bullied. Do not correct someone on something you know nothing about.
2. If you're claiming this guy spends all of his time in the gym then I'm not sure what to tell you.
3. Yes, they do. You are blind.

> By the way, these are widely know truths to the point that certain people during the ivy heyday and the 1980s resurgence would avoid them to avoid being bullied
Are we in 1980 or in 2018? In 1880-1920 pink was masculine and blue/white feminine, we live in 2018 and pink is masculine again (neutral actually)

It's featured in the preppy handbook. I don't know what else you need. It is a bit of a cliché
>>
>>13741641
By that measure all prep clothes are cliché gayboi. Also featured in the handbook are khaki pants and oxford shirts and penny loafers. People still wear those but you don’t see people wearing Norwegian birdseyes- that’s real prep
>>
>>13741641
its not bad just because of that
>>
>>13741662
Never said it's bad. It's just that it's instantly identifiable and characteristic of 80s prep, which in my book make it a bit of a cliché.

>>13741651
>khaki pants and oxford shirts and penny loafers
Those are staples of the prep/ivy league style that have been staples for decades.
The difference with the ll bean norwegian sweater is that it is quintessentially 80s prep and has a strong personality, it is "that one preppy sweater". In that same category would fall bean boots and barbour wax jackets. That's what makes it a cliche in my opinion, not that it's a problem if you don't take this stuff too seriously.

>you don’t see people wearing Norwegian birdseyes- that’s real prep

>>
>>13741620

>Bowling
>Prole

Then why do so many rich people have private bowling alleys in their homes, and why do so many high end country clubs offer duck pin bowling?

Not to imply that bowling is nearly aristocratic as something like polo, ballet, horse back riding, or yachting, but its certainly not a prole sport and theres a big power gap between shit like American football or basketball on the one hand, and bowling on the other.

difference between new england prep and southern prep comes down to fabrics and colors. southern preps tend to go for flashier colors and lighter fabrics (due to weather) and is generally just less conservative than new england prep.

no idea what euro prep is, but probably skinny jeans and getting a lot of details wrong due to not understanding the culture

>no idea what euro prep is, but probably skinny jeans and getting a lot of details wrong due to not understanding the culture
you are retarded. europrep is almost the same as US prep but with more #menswear elements. half the US prep shit comes from Europe anyway, just about all of the knitwear and suiting developments (including 3/2), and certain inventions such as polo shirts.
prep isn't exclusive to the US, at the end of the day prep is just useful clothing, polo shirts for playing tennis, button down collars for playing polo, chinos because they are in your closet and you aren't a poorfag (see Neill Diamond song), knitwear because it is cold.
People wore the same shit in Europe at the time (less button down collars because we didn't all larp as polo players at the time), but we have more than one subculture so don't feel the need to larp as one specific one all of the time so prep isn't that much of a cultural icon here.
>>
>>13746332
>prep isn't exclusive to the US

what a great way to start an argument, i hope you don't mind if i borrow it:

you are retarded. prep is exclusive to the US because it is the name of a style of dressing that originated here. yes, they borrow items from the countries their families emigrated from, but in those countries these items of clothing are not considered prep. it only becomes prep once it enters the clothing system as it came to be defined here. if you told an irish fisherman he was prep because he was wearing a cable knit sweater he would think you were retarded, and he'd be right. you may think that these boundaries are too strict, but that is literally the point of prep/ivy/trad. a strict set of rules about dressing, from which one deviates carefully and deliberately

>>13746356
yes, the name 'prep' and the cohesive style of dressing do stem from the US, but the strict rules were only made in the '80s with the ivy revival which is essentially LARP since it is unorganic and just some revival based on arbitrary rules and very few pics.
What I' m saying is that if you looked at Europeans rich kids universities in the '60s they' d dress very similar to American colleges in the '60s, not taking into account the' 80s 'Making the Grade' LARP.
>>
>>13746382
it may be true that they dressed "similarly" but that is only because the clothes in that era looked more similar relative to the wide range we have now. example: shoes were mostly made out of leather and were generally black or brown. however, the subtleties that defined american ivy league style would not have been found on european campuses in the 60s

>>13734918

>>13746417
>shoes were mostly made out of leather and were generally black or brown
You know penny loafers are norwegian and tassel loafers italian right? Oxfords are from Ireland/UK, corduroy trousers was what was popular in spain until the 70-80s, when jeans took over
