Has anyone tried a watch with any of the peacock/dandong movements? On paper they seem pretty good but nobody seems to have a lot os specific info or experience with them.

I've been thinking a out getting one of the new sugess 36mm daydates that uses a peacock movement, other than the gay fake diamonds they used for indexes they look pretty decent.

Aaaand I bought an unbranded chink diver.

I had no idea if I liked divers. They're too heavy and too shiny. Divers are not for me. For $5 I found out. Neat. Looks like I won't be getting a Duro for a while.

This is surprisingly not bad for 5 dollars. The band pleasant to use and the watch is not all that bad to look at. Maybe I'll wear it to workout at night in winter or give it away to some kid.

Not really anon. The movement is housed inside a round plastic structure in the case, it doesn't have all of the shock absorbing properties of a g-shock.

There are videos of people torture testing them on youtube and they hold up surprisingly well provided you don't throw them out of helicopters and the like.

The watch also has other differences: The display scratches a bit easier, the light is way brighter, and the band is stiffer. The stiffer band I actually like as it grabs the sides of my wrist and keeps the watch from sliding down.

But the biggest con IMO is that it just doesn't look as cool as a square. If they were to remove that "sport watch water resist" wording and come up with some different bezel graphics I would wear it more often. But I suppose for $5 one can't complain much.

seiko nh35 is low-cost, made in china, and just around $20+. it's not known for accuracy but is somehow reliable. if it conks, you can easily order one. nh34 (gmt), 35, 36 are variants which are also popular among the build/modding community aside from the chink manufacturers.

3 Pagani Design
2 Steeldive

The steeldive are both Auto and have never had an issue with them, other than the pin you can see popping out on the link (arrow in red)

Padagis the left and right are both mechaquartz, so both have the sweeping hand, one in the middle is auto but uses the pearl movement, and the 24 hour hand loses time 30 mins to an hour a day.

I impluse bought this dinner plate early last year which I rarely use, one of the cheapest PD's. surprisingly no flaws on the dial when I checked on a macro level. but case paint is too thin, and oem fabric strap is meh.
>24 hand loses time
maybe drained battery if quartz? or if auto it may just need regulation, or proper oiling? if repairing the movt is more expensive than the watch, then just swap it with a new movt. it shouldn't cost much. or just get a new watch.
>the pin you can see popping out on the link
if tight, just put pressure on it to put it back in place.
if loose, try to increase the groove between the tip of the pin (if there is one, which serves as a lock). or put a very small strip of paper or plastic inside to tighten it.
or maybe just get another aftermarket pin with the same length and diameter.

Bumping for interest. Stoked to find this thread on my favorite board, just got into /chinesewatches a couple weeks ago, and because of the Ali sale I now have 5 watches in the mail:

Steeldive 1953 with light blue face
Addiesdive MY-H3-2AC in black
3x Bliger/Tandorio 40mm GMT NH34 watches in different bezel colors (black/purple, green/gold, all black)

Super hype for these, hopefully I don't have to send any back. Also bought some engineer bracelets and curved endlinks for them.
I will post pics after the shit arrives. Next, I think will build an NH35 sub clone in gaudy colors.
A lot of other watch people will probably think I have pleb taste with all the GMT and sub clones, but I like the way they look.

Greetings from four legged beast poop duty anons. There was a drizzle outside today and it was quite pleasant.

This is another Skmei I quite like, the 1123. Its a clone of the A158 though the whole thing is made entirely out of metal (chinesium, but metal nonetheless). I can't recall if the A158 has a metal case, IIRC its just printed resin but can't remember that well. I got it for 6 euros.

Anyways the finishing on the metal bracelet was poor so I swapped it for a resin one. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, though maybe I'll get a better quality resin strap later.

I have these five. I was interested in testing different sizes and weights.

I use mostly the metal f91w clone and the square clone. The negative display one is not bad. The scaled up square, the mudman clone and the blingy square are a bit silly.

I also had their f91 resin clone which I gave away, that one was very well done. I also had their DW-291 which was my favourite but I ruined it trying to hydromod it -- the WR isn't good enough to keep the oil in, but it was a fun experience. Might buy it again sometime.

They're cool fun watches to experiment with and I enjoy the brand. I must've spent like 40 euros in total.

Also as an oddity, here's the fake g-shock I bought. I was curious to see what it was like and unsurprisingly its not good. They managed to make it even more difficult to read than the original ones and the case is just a metal case painted black.

I went to return it and Aliexpress refunded me the money and let me keep the item, so now I have a free "g-shock". I still enjoy wearing it and I'm growing strangely fond of the poorly painted black case. It might look cooler with some scratches over time

I think this is the poopiest dog poop duty watch of all time and its gonna be hard to dethrone this one.

pros:
>super light, I almost forget I'm using it

>bracelet is very smooth and comfortable
>vh31
>lume is good, but not very long lasting

cons:

You know what, I'm kinda growing fond of it. It's full metal but not as shiny as the actual g-shocks and the black is quite discreet. Its still a bitch to read but it made me realize maybe I check the time too much and I'm always in a hurry for nothing.

Stopwatch and timer work, alarm haven't tested yet. The digital and analog hours do sync well. Auto light works as well. The function to remove the analog hands away from the screen is the only thing that does not work. Also the beep is kinda quiet. The light works well but everything inside the case is so dark its hard to read the hands.

You can find it on aliex on the "g-shosu" store. List price is 30€, sometimes on sale for 25€, and then you can use coupons on it and whatnot. I still don't think its worth 30 or 25 eurobucks, I think it might still be a better idea to buy a used GA-2100 on cashconverters/ebay or just get a skmei/sanda and go with that if you live in a place with prohibitive import taxes like most of South America.

good thing there are chink brands that are now producing more of this size, it seems that the current trend are mostly field watches.
you may use something like a staedtler eraser with white and blue side, then use the blue side. it works with non-shiny titanium as I've read of you want to reduce the visibility of the scratches.

-- SKMEI TIERLIST --

- A TIER -
1628: DW-5600 clone. Has all the functions from the original plus DT, but current time doesn't show on stopwatch. Stupid bright dual green leds. Easier to press buttons than the original. Band is stiffer, acrylic glass scratches easily (some say it adds character...)

1412: F91-W clone. Very comfortable band, light-blue iluminator only lights up the numbers. It is a copy but it kinda has its own fun thing going on with the Skmei branding.

1988: Looks like the GBX-100 but its mostly its own thing. Easy to read negative display, easy to press buttons. Has OK EL-style light. Has Timer/Stopwatch/Alarm and DT, slightly bigger than a square. Beeps distincively deeper. Looks chink-futuristic, up to you if you like it.

2126: DW291 clone. Very pleasant to use the buttons, good for extensive timer/stopwatch usage. While it has Timer/Stopwatch/DT, the rest of the function on the screen show gibberish (no tiny analog clock or seconds counter). The default chromed version is very shiny, get the black one if you want something more muted. The dial in front of the display is easy to remove if you want to mod it. Overall a great pic. Big like the original.

- B TIER -
1384: Huge Mudman clone. Loud beebs, good negative display, sturdy band, bright green backlight. Only get it if you want a huge watch.

1123: Casio A158 clone. Similar to the 1412 but with a very rough metal bracelet. Case however is metal and feels nice. Doable if you can tolerate the bracelet or swap it for something else.

- C TIER -
1471: Scaled up DW-5600 clone. Loud beeps but no timer. Only available in questionable jeans-like color schemes. Its about the size of a GX-56 but lacks the mean look and looks like a kids watch that is too large.

1851: GM-5600 clone. No timer. Press on caseback for some reason. Band uses some sort of press-on bar that is incredibly difficult to remove. Very shiny, draws attention to its chinkness. Pretty light-blue LED light though.

>>
>>18236049
fwiw I've heard of LED mods for the F91W where you de-solder the LED, rotate it 90 degrees to point at the screen and it basically doubles the light on the screen. Theres also another mod to solder on another LED on the other side so it isn't absolute garbage.

Sounds like a lot of time, effort, and expense for a $16 watch.
>>
>>18236035
I think there are 2 groups of people:

Some of us who have fun owning a variety of very inexpensive watches that we can not care about and buy as many as we want to experiment with.

And some people who would rather not spend $20 on a watch if they can avoid it. Not everyone is a gainfully employed adult in North America or Europe. Did you know Brazil has a 90% import tax and the minimum wage there is 3.5k a year? Some parts of the world are no picnic. But hey at least they can have Skmeis too, and Skmeis aren't that bad in my book.

on my 6.5" wrist, my ideal is 35-36mm case dia, and around 38.5mm as the limit so it won't look like a dinner plate. but I also have 40mm and above watches that look big when I look at the mirror. pic related is my old 35mm, 11mm thicc (includes case back and glass).

go to aliexpress, search 'XXmm watch'. it will give you a baseline of what type you want.
but if you want an iso certified dive watch (diver's 200m), just get a citizen promaster dive 37mm

Oh damn, I didn't realize they made a version of that with a sapphire crystal. Good to know for when I get tired of the ML05.

Mid level brands are a waste of money. Just buy a cheap Chinese or go big

The quartz crisis only mattered because the average consumer didn't care about watches. They just wanted something to tell the time. Most normies don't even buy regular watches anymore. They wear apple watches now. So it's just us watch fags now and most of us care too much about buying our expensive Kate Spade bags like ROlex and JLC to care about Pagani

I have nice things. I also have these. I like putting them together from parts. I spent more on parts and tools from China than I ever have on complete watches.

>>
>>18265450
I like products that drew inspiration from something and are sold at an affordable price. Sometimes I can't or don't want to spend on an expensive thing. I'm a man of the people and chink homages are something I enjoy.

If someone asks me about my chink watch I have no problems saying I got it on aliexpress and its an affordable product I enjoy.

Wearing a replica feels like trying to cheat or trying too hard. That's not something I would enjoy.

But that's my take on it anon, you do you.

This is so close to being the perfect watch for me, but the date on it just straight up ruins the entire thing. I’m probably too picky for my own good, but I haven’t convinced myself to buy it yet.
>>
>>18261778
Welp anons just bough it and a khaki strap to go with it. Managed to get it for 42€ with VAT included, but I think it'll ship from China, so it'll take a week or two to get here.

I'll probably wear it for a day or two to see if I like it and then store it for later as a Christmas present for myself.

I like the no-frills no-brand aesthetic with the "issued" military look. Just a small, neutral, old-school looking and durable watch to check time without getting my phone out.

It should also tuck in nicely below sleeves in winter, so that'll be nice.

any chink version if this? it doesn't need to be exact.

Speaking of chink watches, how would I try to find a watch that uses chinese characters for the days of the week?
Is it normal to just switch out the mechanism?
>>
How hard is it to get a rep for a carrier tank? Is it a bitch to figure out? is it risky?
>>
>>18268626
An actual replica i don't know, but if you search for "tank watch" in aliexpress you get a lot of clones, but nearly all of them don't include the brand.
>>
>>18268631
do they include the brand when they arrive? or is it zero logo irl
>>
>>18268635
depends, some are zero logo, others are branded with their chink brand (ex: "berny") but very rarely you'll see a cartier logo on a product listing as those get pulled down.

Sometimes they show the pictures with no logo and say "with famous brand logo" in the description or you can check the reviews for pictures with the logo, but you gotta really lurk aliex to find those and in most cases the quality is not very good.
>>
>>18221338
you wearing enough bracelets there bud?
>>
>>18268635
it's not advisable since by having the brand it's immediately recognized as a counterfeit product and most likely won't make it through customs, chances are vastly reduced anyways
>>
bump from last slot
>>
What's the reasoning behind some of the weird English brand names from Chinese manufacturers?
>>
>>18271813
They want to give their products names that appeal to Westerners, but their lack of cultural finesse makes the names sound "weird" to us
>>
>>18271813
Also its to avoid trademark issues.

I saw a video from LTT a while ago (can't find it now) but its related to registering a brand in the US trademark office or something along those lines. There are a bunch of heaps you have to go through to avoid legal issues if you wanna name your brand something recognizable in the US.

If you just brand yourself as some random letter assortment like SKMEI or HANSERTIMING or whatever the chance of you running into legal issues is quite low. I'll see if I can find the video later.
