Prestige. He's got enough money since he sold MFK to LVMH but being in-house perfumer at Dior is the most prestigious job in the business, in the footsteps of Edmond Roudnitska.

As some have pointed out, there's a faint hint of the Sausage/Luna Rossa Carbon thing with the bergamot/lavender/pepper combo. I tried Vetiver, which I thought was way too dry (I prefer Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver). I can't rember the name of the other one I sprayed (L’Homme Ideal?), but it just left me smelling like generic Christmas spices. Habit Rouge I simply didn't like.
>>
>>18250302
L'homme Ideal is just modern slop, so it's good that it's not to your taste. I haven't tried Vetiver so can't comment on it, but I love Habit Rouge. I can see why someone wouldn't like it though, it could be perceived as old-fashioned & its powdery floral aspects may not be for everyone. Have you tried L'instant pour homme? it's a beautiful mix of citrus and cocoa/patchouli that's great this time of year.

Lol it's pretty trash. Don't act like a sweet, synthetic gourmand-ish tonka scent is a masterpiece. It's derivative of fragrances that were popular at the time like A Men Pure Havane (which is more interesting than L'homme Ideal but also not a masterpiece).

It's clean inoffensive cool mint (as opposed to sweet mojito mint) with with a patchouli vetiver base. It's a blue-ish fragrance in that it's meant to be worn on any occasion in any season. both have an aspect of nastiness to them, but it's blown out of proportion by people who can't handle anything but sweetness.

30 years old male. Haven't been to /fa/ since I was 17. Looking for recs for a first time in relative serious consideration of a fragrance.

I intend to wear the fragrance year round since I don't currently have any other fragrances. I suppose since we're going into fall/winter that might be where I start out.

I don't really have an ideal price range. I suppose under 300 dollars for a bottle.

I don't really have a scent I'm looking for as I'm new to cologne and have basically just bought whatever was at Walmart. I currently use Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue and I have no opinions on it. It basically just smells like generic cologne.

I will mostly be wearing it at my job in an air conditioned manufacturing setting high airflow, temperature between 62 and 75 degrees.

I'm not opposed to "gourmand" fragrances. I enjoy vanilla notes and I'm not particularly looking to project a masculine aura. I just want to smell nice and not be overpowering.

I'm from /ck/ so here's an image. Is fragrance good for you?

Perhaps it was, but it was revived under the original name this year. Just bought a brand new bottle.
>>
>>18251342
Do you only want one fragrance? I'm a bit new to it too, but from what I can tell is you can sort of follow the seasons. Have a Spring/Summer scent and an Autumn/Winter scent. Maybe that doesn't appeal to you, but I like the idea of it being seasonal. I would suggest you look at which brands appeal to you, I like the more "classic" French brands, but that's because I like to larp as a 1950-1960's business man. Dior, Chanel, Creed, Hermes, Guerlain, and Acqua Di Parma, and to an extent, Tom Ford are all popular brands

I think I'm going to start with fall/winter since it will get me through the next 6 months or so. I looked at the chart but I'd still like to narrow it down a little bit. Are gourmand scents actually viable as a man or will I just smell like a tranny? I'm really not looking to smell manly or spicy, just kind of nice.

Try Kenzo Homme EDP for an original, genuinely "blue" frag with a dark tropical/aquatic profile
Bleu de Chanel Parfum (not EDP) if you want something very generic but objectively excellent
Dior Homme Sport for something universally pleasing and wearable everywhere. Somewhat one-dimensional but it's good. DH2020 if you think DHS is too citrus-forward
For something different but very natural-smelling as opposed to Kenzo's somewhat alien/synthetic feel, try Voyage d'Hermes (EDP or EDT, both are good). Extremely pleasant scent, not generic, suitable for all occasions

I received it as a birthday gift
I think it's interesting but at first I thought the sample was boring because it's so heavy on the ozonic/cucumber thing that for some reason is called "aquatic"
there's definitely more to it going on but the ozonic thing is the most significant aspect and it's taking some time to smell past that
also it's overwhelming and lasts forever. I don't think I would have chosen to buy this myself but the low hanging fruit of what frags to get I've exhausted and this was as good a gift as I could expect.

For some reason all women's perfumes just smell the same, like flowers and candy store.
Weirdly despite being a much smaller market, mens fragrances are a lot more interesting with a lot more variety.
My mum wears Marc Jacob's Daisy Dream and I got given a sample of J'ador L'or recently which I thought smelled nice. It had a fizzy sherbet smell to it, and reminded me of a candy here in bongland called Love Hearts.

Alright I tried gamer girl pee, the citrus is totally styled on DHS. I actually quite like the lemon/musk combo, but I don't really get Aventus from it at all. I would definitely consider Energy as a poor man's alternative to DHS or DH Cologne.

I really like Carved oud by thameen (tom ford oud wood but slightly spicy) but im allergic to it (sinus headache), cannabis by malin goetz im not allergic to but its not the right fit for me, I really like black afgano but again it gives me sinus headaches i think its the flower based materials (violet jasmine etc). I use to wear hwyl by aesop never had an issue with that liked it but I didnt like its performance.

Decants ive bought and dont vibe w:
lalique - encre noir
lalique encre noir extreme
orto parisi - viride (i like but too green not dark enough
zoologist - musk deer
tom ford - tobacco vanille
tom ford - tobacco oud

I only have Rien II and Marquis de Sade, I absolutely love the latter even though I find it a tad bit too faint, however I'm still not sure how I feel about the former.
Rien was a blind buy as I got a ridiculously good price for it on a discounter but it's the first time my expectations of a fragrance were so incredibly off (seriously, I don't even know what exactly I expected but it was literally nothing like it). I admire just how powerful and loud of a fragrance it is, and I really enjoy the scent after the first couple of hours, however upon initially spraying it, I cannot help but feel like I've stepped into a piss-drenched underpass turned into a BDSM sex dungeon somewhere in Baghdad. It's just such a ridiculous fragrance, and this straight up filthy smell carries on for hours - many hours - and projects across miles. Once the fecal/pissy accords subside and the chemical/metallic/industrial notes take over, it's absolutely amazing though.
>>
i get 0 b.o./piss from rien

Ok, I have changed my mind about TDH. I wore it in high heat so that was my error, the slightly sour orange rindness and earthy notes don't come off as pleasant in +30(88) degree weather.

It works best in cooler weather and is very nice. I finally get the vetiver note. Definitely not slop.

That said what are some fragrances similar to it, looking for that middle ground of uplifting citrus and vetiver.

Might blind buy the tres fraiche because Robes08 said it was done really well and the perfumer is a master with aquatic notes which it has.

Depends on the fragrance really. The concentration is not the only factor which can affect overall quality.
Chanel Platinum Egoiste is only EdT concentration but three or four sprays is all I need and will project for a good 6 hours or more.
Kenzo Homme EDP has great longevity, but I still need like 10-12 sprays to get the same projection that I get from the Chanel.

Guerlain Vetiver doesn't smell like an 'old man smell' to me. Sure, it's a classic mature fragrance, not like the modern sweet things most young men wear today, but it's also not a stuffy musky old man smell like maybe CK Obsession.
It's pretty fresh and light. Actually I think it's a bit boring and safe personally, but definitely not an 'old man smell'.

The Comme de Garcons incense line should be mandatory testing if you’re interested in incense frags. You could look at Pineward as well since you seem open to niche, but nothing jumps to mind by him, he has more woody/smoky, not quite incense.

>>18252827
Most agree that Eau Givree is better for higher heat than standard TdH. Also, I wouldn’t call Tres Fraiche aquatic, or even really having aquatic notes, it’s a more floral take on TdH to my nose. Regardless, not for me because floral, but the Gay Dragon also likes it so give it a shot. Mind you, Tres Fraiche is discontinued, so be careful falling in love with something that’s not being made anymore.

I immediately hated Interlude Black Iris and Royal Tobacco immediately because the woody/smoky scents overpowered everything.
