Dark academia looks great…on an older guy at a small college campus with lots of collegiate gothic architecture in autumn. But it looks out of place in the very other occasion and environment. If you like dark academia, just go for trad/prep/ivy. If you live in Northeastern city or college town you can probably get away with putting a dark academia twist on it every now and then from October-February. But otherwise, I wouldn’t do it.

That's nice, Anon.

Where do find nice, good-quality pleated pants like in your pictures or picrel (minus the retarded styling)? The only thing I want is a straight leg (little wide), high waist and a non-fake pleat that originates from the waistband for a nice drape.

When scouring around I only find either expensive designer stuff (>$500) or Chinese dropship bullshit (<30$). I'm willing to pay a fair price for a good piece of clothing, but jesus christ.

I want to go for something like dark academia, but i don't want to close the doors entirely on jeans. Can it be done? Maybe with some lighter blues and olive colours absent from this pic: >>18257525

Thanks for the recommendations. Both look pretty good, they're both in the price range that makes them tempting, but I can't justify >€250 pants just yet.
>>
>>18258395
No, it’s /tip/ but with darker colors and more punk pieces. It was originally /tip/ just with dark colors to add a bit of edge because it was borne out of the fandom for these novels, most famously Donna Tartt’s The Secret History (which is a pretty okay book). But the fandom got bigger and attracted MFAs at colleges, Pinterest board types, Redditors, and it became also a punk/LGBT/leftist thing. They do shit like dress /tip/ in dark colors but swap out loafers for Doc Martens. And since none of these people have any taste, the literary influences shifted from classic literature and Donna Tartt novels to all sorts of contemporary garbage. The DA community celebrates some of the worst poetry ever written. So what started as basically dark /tip/ a sort of resurrection of trad western elite aesthetics but made dark has transformed into some costume for lesbians.

Better off looking for vintage pieces. Wider fits and high rise with proper styling are still in the realm of proper menswear, although it's slowly been trickling into mainstream fashion for the last few years.

Kit Blake are really nice, a friend of mine has a couple of pairs of their flannels and swears by them. Spier and Mackay do some decent stuff but they ship unhemmed, and the 12" rise on their High Rise pairs isn't quite enough for my taste. SuitSupply made to measure is an option if you have a location nearby and can be very clear with the guy measuring you about what you want.

Loafers without socks are genuinely baffling. No reason whatsoever to wear them. But I hate the invisible socks trend in general. Uncomfortable and impractical and messy. Black mid-long socks are literally all you need outside of specialized athletic contexts. >>18258410
I mean, there's an implicit larp element in coopting any "uniform". Maybe bikers get pissed at punks / metalheads for stealing their boots and leather. But I live in an NY college town and all those kids were in dark academia fits last winter. Rich kid's school too. Didn't see any doc martens but there were a lot of thrifted pieces and/or vintage that made their way in the outfits I saw. Also plenty of shawls, dresses, big jewelery and extra fabric layers that made the whole thing a bit more hippyish and less straight-laced. Wouldn't call it punk per se, but definitely a little... Woo woo? You know what I mean.

>Black mid-long socks are literally all you need outside of specialized athletic contexts

If you wear black socks with any other pants than black you're an idiot. And I don't mean that in the usual "being a contrarian on 4chan" sense, I truly believe you're stupid. Why the fuck would you wear black socks with khakis? Blue jeans? Olive moleskin? Socks exist in all shades. Yes, wear socks, but spend the twenty minutes necessary to buy socks that match your pants.
How the fuck do you not understand it while being so confident in voicing your opinion?

Here's a non-binary Dark Academia fit.

>>18260666

It doesn't have anything to do with the people around you.

You wear the fit and engage in an activity, like going to the library and reading something or writing something on your laptop while there.

You can also practice writing calligraphy or other crafts to get absorbed in the mood.

Dark brown, but yome Scotch grain derbies or something. Don't buy Docs or Solovairs if you have any self respect. Avoid chunky commando/lug soles, dainite/studded rubber is the most versatile. Black shoes are very difficult to wear casually because black is a formal colour and it really only matches with black, dark grey and navy, and you shouldn't be wearing odd black trousers. Dark brown on the other hand matches well with browns, greys, darker greens and navy. I even wear it with off-white sometimes.

The funny thing about the DA look is that you’ll see it at mid to low tier colleges and non-college educated circles. Of course they’re allowed to but it’s just a bit ridiculous to don the uniform so consciously like that. But you’re missing the point because my point was not that DA is a uniform but that it’s a uniform specifically co-opted by LGBT and POC folx. The point isn’t to be Evelyn Waugh but someone who reads Song of Achilles.
>>
>>18260368

>>
>>18266314
You shouldn't be wearing a black suit outside of a funeral, so black shoes and navy trousers are the default in a business environment.

>>18266413
Look at picking up some used shoes. Oftentimes people will sell pairs that still have a couple of years of wear left in them before a resole is needed, and all they need is a bit of leather conditioner and a polish to look like you only bought them a month ago. I picked up this pair of Crockett and Jones for approx 140 USD (yes, I posted them in the last /tip/ thread, fuck you) and I've had the opportunity to wear them a couple of times now. Extremely happy with them.

What's easily available will depend on where you are. Try Abbott's Shoes if the shipping isn't prohibitively expensive. Look at buy/sell groups on Facebook marketplace (big thing in Australia). Check out the Alden Model Project which lists every singly eBay listing for Alden shoes and let's you search by model number, last and style. I own shoes from C&J, Chesney, Loakes, Barker, Alden and Grenson, and I have never spent more on them than a brand new pair of Solovairs would cost. Part of dressing in a vintage-inspired look is being thrifty.
