>>18260941i barely ever click the boot thread. i hike in the cascades a lot. very rainy here.first of all you should be wearing crampons or spikes in icy conditions.still you never know when you can get caught off guard by a patch in mixed conditions. vibram megagrip/pro is the gold standard for traction on wet rock. there's different levels to it and lug pattern matters a lot too. some proprietaries compare to it some don't. approach shoes also exist which use very sticky rubber and will give far more grip than any boot does, you should know they exist and use them when appropriate. dece slightly outdated rundown:https://trekandmountain.com/2018/12/09/the-big-question-which-rubber-sole-is-the-stickiest/there way more arctic grip on the market now i haven't tried it yet. vibram arctic grip is supposedly 3x grippier on ice than their other compounds. haven't tried it yet or really looked into if it lived up to the hype, newer product.and there's graphene sole compounds starting to hit the market that grant a significant increase to their lifespan as well as a significant reduction to weight. for old timey resoleable boots nope you won't get any compounds even remotely close. you can improve ice traction by putting screws in them. you can do that with glued modern boots too though.just deal with the consumable. its not that expensive per mile honestly. you're using them for stuff you could die doing may as well take the best shit.

How's the Red Wing Supersole X as an all-round boot
TLB has a -15% MTO event, basically makes MTO freeI wanted a dark brown suede chelsea boot, might pull the trigger. It's 450€ and TLB quality is pretty great (esp suede).Basically pic related in dark brown, with a commando sole for comfiness.
>>18261707Might go for a black oxford since i need one
>>18261733The reason I like TLB is because the quality is great, the finishing is always flawless (way better than Carmina) and more importantly their MTO has width options on every last, I am width HThey also have ok priced lasted trees for every last.I own a black oxford from them and I used to own a black oxford from Carmina which I sold because it was too narrow. It's great. They use annonay boxcalf instead of the german one, I can't say I see a difference.
>>18261736do you have loafers from them? if so how is the sizing compared to the oxfords? debating on getting some but unsure if i should go tts or .5 down, never had loafers before.
>>18261903I have loafers but from the 'comfort' collection which is different sizing.I had to use a tongue pad but I also use a tongue pad on my only other pair of loafers (from Bonafe) so I think it's normal.I'm UK10 on TLB (on most other brands I am 10.5 for some reason) and the comfort loafers say EU44 for either UK10 or 10.5 and I picked that and it worked.
>>18261945i'll go with my usual size and hope it works, worst case i figure i might need to throw a thin insole in to take up space.
I didn't understand what they meant by "breaking in" a new pair of PNWs. I just got my first set, some Franks Patriots, and I had no idea that you had to basically form them to your feet and ankles, it doesn't feel too good yet but seeing them actually become your boot is a satisfying experience.

>>18263390japanese makers generally don't do lasts in multiple widths and very rarely stock anything above size US10/JP28 domesticallymost of the time you can't order a boot in wide widths as MTO because they only have one standard width last, so you have to go MTM or bespoke lastsome brands advertise their boots as being wide width, like clinch CN wide or john lofgren 120 last E width, but those are not true wide widths and fit more inbetween D/E on a brannock, which may or may not be what you're looking forthere are high-end bespoke makers, but generally don't do boots, only dress shoes and have waiting list over a year longthe one MTM maker that specializes in boots specifically is white kloud, prices are through the roof and orders are closed AFAIK, so you'll just get rejected most likelythe only japanese brand, that i know of, that does D, E and EE widths as MTO is zerrows in tokyomultiple lasts, styles and a decent variety of leather options, some of the styles are a bit out there though

>>18262485Regarding the uncomfortable comments and just to clarify: IRs lack a midsole and tge sole is hard, so they are shit for sock absorption. You can mitigate that by wearing thick socks, or those hiking socks which are thicker in the footbed. Or even getting a cushioned insert, you might have to go up half a size for that if your pair fits too snug. They're not my most comfortable boots but I don't have much trouble with them when wearing thick socks.

i bought ir and mocs. the ir absolutely kicked my ass and took months to break in but damn are they comfy now. the mocs were comfy right from the get go.
Are boots supposed to hurt a but when breaking them in?I got a pair of Red Wing Beckmans yesterday , while trying out they were tight, but not painful. However, After a good march my little toes hurt like hell and my whole foot feels like its getting squished when wearing them.
Who would win: the Viberg Service Boot 2030 or the White's Semi-Dress?
>>18266337I didn't have much trouble breaking in the IRs. The 875s took about a day.>>18266379My beckmans were quite painful for about two weeks. That's about what it took me wearing them in increments until they became bearable. Afterwards they get more comfortable with each wear. I can wear them now the whole day without issue.
>>18266385Good to know, thanks m8. I was already worries about potentially having tanked my bank account for shoes that are too small. I permanently damaged one of my small toes trying to "break in" a pair of badly fitting pieces of cheap shit years, ago, so I tend to get nervous when shoes aree tight. Never had any proper boots before.
>>18266468One last note: bear in mind tgat beckmans have a leather lining so they'll always feel tighter tgan the IRs. Also the leather is stiffer, IRs will become very supple with wear, beckmans not so much.
>>18265457

>>18266495>Also the leather is stiffer, IRs will become very supple with wear, beckmans not so much.Does this go for the new edition Beckmans as well? I read they changed the leather to a softer one from the old ones for exactly that reason. I thought about geetting IRRs, but I honestly liked the Beckmans better and one of my best friends has a pair of IRs. Buying the exact same shoes would be off the charts gay.
>>18266382As much as i hate Viberg, White's is not even in the same tier.

>>18266675Brand recognition, Thursdays have built a reputation as the best bang for buck brand for people "in the know" so it has a lot of diehards and when they see Thursdays selling a $500 boot they will assume it's somehow much more bang for buck than any other $500 boot out there. In fact go ask in reddit and the first thing you'll probably hear is how shinki cordovan at that price is a steal and you would be a fool to pass on it.

Just earlier today I purchased a pair of brogues and waxed suede loafers from the trickers outlet and a couple of hours later they updated their stock and added the PTBs I was waiting for to be on sale. Fucking hell I spent a thousand dollars on shoes this morning. They ship out super fast from the UK to the US so I'll ponder about returning first two and just keeping the PTBs.Picrel are the model of the loafers that I just bought.
these boots make me angry
>>18267074And picrel is exactly what I wanted but was waiting for them to be on sale. Which happened today, so no regrets on buying these.I was thinking about dyeing the welt dark brown on the suede loafers. But I'll have to wait until they arrive so I can decide if I want to return them.
>>18267074>>18267084And these are the brogues that I bought along with the loafers. They're probably not as shiny in person but I do like the museum calf leather. Again, will have to wait to try them on and style them and decide if I want to keep the loafers and the brogues. But I do like all of them, it's just too much money to spend on shoes.
>>18266382Vibergs are little less than ok, and way too overpriced. I like mine which are some horween brown leather in leather sole and the toe area of the sole is wearing out surprisingly quickly. Had to glue a pair of toe taps but didn't do a great job with em. I've never tried White's because of their lead time and I'm a brannock 14 and their guide size say they have to be custom made in my size.
>>18267084Ive been eyeing these for over a week on the outlet. I already have enough snuff suede so im hoping my size stays in stock until halloween, when they should have another 20% off. I assume they will be similar to my unlined suede alden ptb
>>18267098I couldn't wait more, I was keeping the loafers and the wingtips in my basket for almost a month. But yes, they should have a sale coming up pretty soon.
>>18266828What can you do to fix that?
>>18266382Love the 2030, the Semi-Dress isn't for me. If I went White's I'd consider the MP over the S-D.
>>18266640Ive worn the boots since making the post pretty consistently, and oddly enough they get more and more comfortable every time I slip in. Right now I can already wear them without wanting to rip thems straight off my feet already. Also looked it up, the new Beckmans are made from Excalibur leather, perhaps someone has some experience with that and can tell me what to expect and what to watch out for? According to the salesdud in the store, I also do not need to treat this leather in any way for it to be weather resistant , is this correct?Sorry, total boot noob here. I live somewhere where good cowboy boots are scarce (at least when it comes to buying them in person) and I happened upon some old second hand ones for really cheap. The only thing is the shaft is slouching in such a way that it makes the boot looks like it has a muffin top. Will this fuck up my feet/legs/ankles/knees/etc. or is this nothing to worry about? Everything else about the boots seem fine.
What do you guys think of these? I just copped a pair on sale on impulse for the autumn/winter.

>>18267517Common projects? They are great looking, fantastic even, but that's where the good ends. Sorry bro, they have a garbage construction, moderate quality leather for a super high price. If all you care about is the look then cool, but they won't be more comfortable than a sneaker and they won't last long. Again, a fairly nice looking Chelsea boot though, but for the same price or a little more you can get some super nice chelseas from Italian makers.

Is there a difference in the construction of boots between whites and nicks, thought about grabbing a pair for work.nicks are a bit cheaper than whites, I want to know if the price hike in whites is justified, is it because they use better materials or a different construction method? appriciate feedback.
>>18267747Whites does a true handwelted stitchdown while nigs does a regular stitchdown
>>18267750And which is more durable? a machined stitchdown would be more consistent no?

>>18267126Nothing, they're just scuffed. If I was a new customer and didn't already have low expectations I am sure JK would be a massive disappointment. The glue will wear off but that fucked stitching and the upper being splayed out weird is not changing. I just need it to not fall apart for a year, so we'll see how that goes.

Georgia likes to cut corners in material thickness and likes to use springier but less durable material in places like the midsole. if a georgia model chelsea costs half as much as one by blundstone, it's because the leather is half as thick. georgia's stitching is sound. it's that they're not stitching much together when it comes to some of their boots

Where do you guys buy sweaters and cords?I bought some wool trousers in the cavour sale and while they're very good, I feel they're not as wide as I would have expected.
