I got a set of 10 Mancera samples and they all have an extremely harsh opening.

So far I've tried Kumkat Wood, Aoud Lemon Mint, Cedrat Boise, and Oud Violet and they all start off extremely screechy. People say clones have harsh openings, but these are a thousand times worse than any clone I've tried. Is it somehow worse because they're in a 2ml sample bottle?

Serge Lutens is trash, I wouldn't be caught wearing that outdated sh*t even if somebody paid me to do so.

I enjoy the premium niche market, product that is very expensive. I understand /frag/ isn't huge on fragrances that are over $500 retail, but to me, those scents absolutely obliterate anything that can be had for $300, $200, much less sub $150. The lower you go in $, the smaller the probability that the scent lives up to market leaders.

Worth the money, I'll do a quick 5:

Xerjoff "Alexandria II" - bought from Xerjoff for like €440/100ml, you can get it for less than $300 on discounters. Powdery rose-oud that works very well as a business-formal signature.

Nishane "Nefs" - full retail now is €555, I got it for ~€370. I saw US discounters offering this for $250-260. This is among the best showstopper scents in the market, a rose-oud with honey & fig. Some say it's doing too much, but I think that supports its case as a top premium niche release.

Royal Crown "Sultan" - another full retail bottle for me at ~€600. Man... people will think I'm BSing when I say this vanilla scent has an aura to it. It is so deep & rich that it blows every other vanilla away. I know US discounters have this for like half the RRP, would only recommend it to those who really enjoy gourmand vanillas (and even then, don't blindbuy it lol).

Roja "Enigma Parfum" - retail is €475/50ml IIRC. Disclaimer: I only got a travel size atm (so mentioning it can be viewed as dishonest). As much as Roja rightly gets criticized for their PR presence, the blending and quality of the product is right there at the top of the market. And nothing comes close to what Enigma does with the coca cola vibe. I'm somewhat offended when I see people mention the 100ml orange glass PC because that product is not only watered down, but it's also so much less complex.

Amouage "Enclave" - The only scent that I'll mention that is below ~€500. Basically paid full retail for this, say €300/100ml. I am pretty sure it can be found for sub 200 still. Spearmint & amber, a very unique profile over the last 5 years that isn't being duped either. Works well in spring-fall weather

I find it funny how fragrance communities online tend to go kind of hivemind-y on all fragrances, there’s always a clear majority opinion and then the clear pushback against it, but H24 transcends that form of debate. It’s so divisive that there is no obvious majority opinion on it, which is pretty damn rare.

That being said, I like it, both for thr fact that Hermes had balls to release something so different as a mainstream pillar, and the fact how it can have such strange notes and still feel pleasant to my nose.

I tried several constantly frequently talked about (promoted) perfumes on social media.

Lattafa Khamrah [Kilian Paris Angels' Share]
sweet, warm spicy, vanilla, amber, cinnamon

Sweet, intense scent, not bad, leans slightly feminine, long-lasting. The new version with coffee is supposed to be better.

Lattafa Asad [Dior Sauvage Elixir]
amber, vanilla, fresh spicy, woody, warm spicy

Acceptable, takes some time to develop the scent, decently long-lasting, without any major special features. Might buy again.

Montblanc Explorer [Creed Aventus]
woody, citrus, aromatic, amber, musky

Intensity fades quickly. The scent is acceptable but generally unremarkable. Won't buy again. Was told by one girl i smell like window cleaning fluid.

Afnan 9 PM [Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Ultra Male]
vanilla, amber, warm spicy, cinnamon, sweet

Sweet scent slightly reminiscent of chewing gum, intensity and longevity fade quickly, unremarkable. Won't buy again.

Moschino Toy Boy
rose, floral, musky, woody, soft spicy

Smells like dead roses. Cant phantom how this is suppose to be for men. I don't like it.

Rabanne 1 Million Royal
warm spicy, aromatic, amber, citrus, woody

Smells a bit like flowers. Nothing special. I don't like it.

Carolina Herrera Bad Boy
warm spicy, fresh spicy, cacao, vanilla, aromatic

Smells acceptable.

Versace Eros
vanilla, aromatic, green, fresh spicy, amber

Something in the middle. There are probably better options for a perfume than this one.

No, I'm really not, but I have been thought to be by gays on occasion, but that's merely wishful thinking on their parts.

What I concern myself with in a fragrance is: How does this scent fit the idea of me in the minds of other people? Does it complete or distort me as an archetypal icon? Things like "feminine" or "masculine" are arbitrary until they are an explicit derivative of a fragrance's interaction with me personally. In other words, even if a smell makes another man seem masculine, for instance, it may make me seem old rather than masculine, or boring, or poor. And even if a scent makes another man seem feminine, it may make me seem interesting, or lively, or gentle. Just random examples, but the point is, you are a specific use-case, and therefore each fragrance must be assessed in relation to you as if that is its only possible context.

Even so, though I say that, there are fragrances which may be called unisex, but are far too feminine or masculine to actually be unisex. The unisexing of fragraces, clothing, hairstyles, etc., is all just part of the psychological and spiritual warfare the elite regime is carrying out on the general public.
>>
>>18263757
I like Jazz Club. I thought Frank No. 2 was a better modern take on an old-school scent, but Jazz Club was even more distinct. Although I don't enjoy gin, I enjoy the gin element in that fragrance. I'm a neophyte, nobody however. My opinions are not expert or even experienced takes.

Just bought some bottles. What are your thoughts fraggots?

The DHS2021 and TMW are what I was waiting to see listed. Dreamer and Quorum were tacked on because I enjoyed my decants. Bogart and Rochas are because I couldn’t find anywhere decanting them.
>>
>>18263867
Bogart is great, very green and far less brash than One Man Show
I'm surprised you like Quorom, feels like Polo Green if it lost all of its refinement and was content to spend its life chainsmoking in dingy motel rooms.
Dreamer is cool but not to my tasts
>>
>>18263881
I have a decant of Polo but haven’t actually tested it yet. Also can’t speak to how recent of a formulation it is, but it’s probably relatively new-ish, so unless the modern-day version is still refined, I’ll never know.

As for the Quorum itself, I don’t know what to say, it comes off as this fantastic dirty/clean old man scent that I just love.

Conversely The Dreamer is pure, clean, white dryer sheets with just a touch of sweetness.

A modern Drakkar Noir alternative. Ordered samples from Eau de Minth and Sartorial. Hope they are not let downs. Bon Monsieur is too heavy on the sandalwood, makes it more classy, less sporty.
Duc de Vervins is good too, but goes in a different direction.

The cherry note is quite synthetic though youll find the raspberry not quite as bad.
The cherry cough drop-ish smell can be a bit heavy. The rest of the fragrance plays out really nice so i still wear it. Those top notes do dry down into a very nice scent but with the performance being so good it can take a minute to get there
>>
>>18264140
Sorry the notes list doesnt even mention cherry. It is what you smell tho probably from the raspberry being so synthetic.
Side note tho the sweet amber is nice with woods

The fragrance you wear is the least important part of the way you present yourself. It's maybe 5% of your overall attraction, it's an added bonus for a guy who's already good looking but does nothing for anyone else.

>Since Judaism considers the phenomenon of perfuming oneself to be feminine, a man’s wearing perfume is related to the Torah prohibition of “cross-dressing”. However, since nowadays so many men wear men’s perfume, i.e. cologne, it is not considered strictly women’s wear and is thus, strictly speaking, not forbidden as cross-dressing. Still, it is considered inappropriate, effeminate and “unmanly” for a man to wear cologne, even if worn for his own personal enjoyment.

Proceed directly to Puig Quorum. Leather and Tobacco in spades
This is the scent of a 50 year old divorcee trying to drink himself to death in anonymous dive bars, back in the era when you could still smoke inside
A lot of people in /frag/ hate alphairone cause he's a donut puncher, but he nailed the review on this:
>I imagine Luca Turin (God love him) referred to something like Quorum when he ruthlessly lambasted Les Abstraits Des Cendres on his Substack: "a woody fougère like a foghorn, brutally chemical, like a bad masculine from the late 1970s in the elevator on a Saturday night, left behind by some delusionally eager guy." Yet, I have a penchant for the masculine foghorns from the late 70s through 80s, they may feel brutal to certain noses, but to smell "chemical" as we know is a matter of perception, especially in this age of rampant and paranoid chemophobia. And maybe, just maybe, I want to cosplay that delusionally eager guy of that time period, or maybe I am just a delusionally eager guy of this time period, leaving my trail like the spoor of a randy buck.
>I actually do find Des Cendres to be anything but crude, but I do think that Quorum is titillatingly crude by design, particularly in its older forms, sort of an original Polo that went rogue and decided to take on billiards in smoky bars, heaving with ashy pine smatter and punchy mugwort, as green as the logo on a pack of Kool cigs.

>Celerio Epic [Lattafa Khamrah]
Khamrah smells like a generic fall scented candle. It's just sickeningly sweet. Celerio Epic is less sweet but obviously the same DNA. No idea why someone would want to smell like this.
