Do Americans really dress like this?

This really struck me, because this isn't a uniform. They didn't coordinate on this. Two grown men just turned up to a video shoot wearing black t-shirts and cargo shorts of their own volition. At that point, I have to ask, is this a cultural thing? Do they think they are wearing clothes? When they dream, do they see themselves wearing t-shirts and cargo shorts?

It's considered "faggy" to go with anything else. You can add a plain hoodie or superhero shirt sometimes but for the most part being a male in America is a hellishly stifling experience

What's wrong with a black t-shirt?
>>
>>18264853
Ive seen how euros dress. Youre not fooling anyone
>>
>>18264853
Never wear black.
>>
>>18264853
yes. I'm a uni student and always wear a tshirt + jeans + a hoodie if it's cold. I've been looking for casual outfit ideas to upgrade to, like a button up shirt with rolled up sleeves, but I haven't even bought anything yet and already feel like I'm gonna be so overdressed. I walked around campus today and actually paid attention to other people, and turns out literally everyone wears tshirts and hoddies and jeans or shorts, maybe chinos. saw some polos as well, and that was it. not a single button up shirt in sight (except for some professors). am i cooked bros? am i doomed to eternally cycle solid color tshirts for life?
>>
>>18264896
is cooked a new slang coming around or are you just from new zealand?
>>
>>18264896
Don’t be so self-conscious. If you want the next step up from T-shirt & jeans, try oxford shirts and chinos
>>
>>18264853
This is a type of guy that's really insecure about his relationship to fashion and generally covers it up with a practiced blasé "oh I don't care what I wear" attitude
>>
>>18264853
People in the UK aren't very fashionable either I've noticed. I'd say they dress less stylishly than New Yorkers do. I can't speak for the rest of Burgerland
>>
>>18264973
Do chinos and oxfords or, preferably flannels imo, separately at first to see how you feel
>>
>>18265266
?
t shirts are the ultimate compliment to a flannel. they are the fall and spring kit upgrade to the t shirt uniform.

>try oxford shirts and chinos
>chinos and oxfords or, preferably flannel
any casual oxford recommendations? a lot of the ones I'm finding just look like dress shirts. Or recommendations for lightweight flannel? It's always hot where I live, I'd get to use a real cozy flannel maybe like a week out of the year.
>>18265305
I like this look, even flannels on their own are nice
>>
Yes. For most men polo shirts and a rarely used pair of tech pants/khakis are the dressiest they’ll generally get. God forbid you tuck anything in.

I think after a point in the ‘00s, with Sillicon Valley gaining more and more power, most dudes just gave up and yielded to comfortable defeat.
>>
>>18265319
Oxfords are effectively dress shirts in this modern ultra casual world. Theres no real way to get around that. I guess just look for something garment or enzyme washed so its not so stiff and looks broken in. Otherwise, thrift
>>

Absolutely based
>>
>>18265356
Tech world has become decadent unironically. Hopefully with it they lose cultural influence. Techie culture is irredeemably shit which is why no one likes them except other techies that like techie culture
>>
>>18265374
He looks like he just saw Chloe Moretz walk by
>>
>>18264853
That’s peak American heterosexual male fashion, yes.
>>
Yeah, unfortunately. I think there’s a counterproductive culture in America where parents either never show their kids how they should dress or there’s a sort of disdain for dressing nicer because it’s gay or elitist.
>>
>>18265374
movie full of great fits unironically
even the based sleevless looks are kino.

Nothing will really change as long as there is a massive amount of money in FAANG. The bucks shifting from NYC into them caused the Californication of menswear. And nothing else but East coast standards being reinforced will restore it

Do you come from a country that’s recently gotten the internet within the last 10 years?
>>
>>18264853
I dress like this.
How do I stop dressing like toddlermode? Clothes like that are just so damn comfy.
>>
>>18265815
Why would you change? Is toddlermode not working out so great for you?
>>
>>18265816
I am getting in shape and embarrassed that my wardrobe is cargo shorts and xxl graphic tees. Nothing fits anymore so I might as well take this opportunity to dress better.
>>
>>18265820
Based. Word of advice. Dont go whole hog on your wardrobe until your bodyweight stabilizes. You can only take in pants and shirts so much before they look like shit. Learned this the hard way and i still keep a separate bulking and cutting wardrobe.
>>
>>18265820
Hit the thrift store to get out of your comfort zone for cheap. Try things on, find a few things that fit you that you can mix and match.
>>
>>18265820
What's wrong with cargo shorts?
>>
>>18265462
This, kek, maybe Carhartt if they're feeling a little risque.
>>
>>18265919
Nothing I just realized that I looked like that dude in the pic where he's dressed exactly like the toddler behind him. I dress like I'm simultaneously 7 and 70.
white knee high socks
white tennis shoes
>cargo shorts
>graphic tee
>>
>>18265925
>like that dude in the pic where he's dressed exactly like the toddler behind him

We're basing our fashion instinct on not looking like how other people dress all of a sudden? If you like cargo shorts and graphic tee's, then wear them. Just be mindful of the kinds you wear and scale it a certain way if you're self-conscious. Are you into fashion because you want to look cool in front of others or to attract chicks? Because chicks won't care what you're wearing 90% of the time, it's how you act.
>>
>>18264885
The black chooses you from a very early age. You wouldn’t get it.
>>
>>18264853

cargo shorts are the god of pants. everyone over 40 wears them. wearing anything else is a downgrade. black shirts hide body sweat and make men look a bit less fat.
>>
>>18265955
So you are too fat too sweaty and carry around useless shit
>>
>>18265955

lol lmao

NPCore.

Lose weight fatty.

US and Canada are absolutely full of manchildren. nobody ever taught them to behave like adults

Unless you're a beta-male hipster, don't buy these.

>>18266178
Men used to be thin, they weren't roided up gymcel freaks.
>>
>>18266532
the same silhouette is also extremely flattering for svelte guys.

Read the sticky bro, wiki will get you started.
>>
>>18266532
If you don't roid you won't look like a freak so not really a problem. Athletic look is better than flab/skelly
